The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that as of Friday, there have been no fatalities linked to Omicron but warned it could take several weeks to determine how infectious the new COVID-19 variant is.
The WHO's assurance comes as the new variant first detected in South Africa last week has now been recorded in 38 countries. In the United States, at least 29 cases of Omicron across 11 states have been reported.
Yes, Omicron is new, and it is possible that in a few weeks’ time, we will see some deaths attributed to it. Probably in people with other serious conditions. But South Africa, which has reported cases first, sees it as mild.
My hope is that the chicken little response of so many Western governments, using it as an excuse to repress their citizenry, will open a few more eyes to the scam being perpetrated in the name of public health. An even greater hope – one that depends on the track record of harm from Omicron that will unfold in the next couple of months – is that not only will the symptoms be mild, but that Omicron will confer immunity on those who recover. Possibly superior immunity to that provided by the experimental mRNA gene therapies being pushed by many of the same people peddling fear and offering repression.

A case in point: Larry Volk, superintendent for the Starkweather Public School District in North Dakota, is calling for a “Christ-centered republic” at the same time he is vowing to keep “critical race theory” out of public schools in his district.
Volk needn’t worry about “critical race theory” being taught in K-12 schools in Starkweather or anywhere else in the United States. CRT, a specific type of study that is found on some college campuses, argues that the racism of the past continues to influence American institutions in the present — and it isn’t being taught in public schools. There isn’t a left-wing movement to bring CRT studies to public elementary schools, middle schools or high schools.
But the far right is conflating any mention of racial justice with CRT, and Volk is a prime example. In a recent e-mail, journalist Caroline Vakil reports in The Hill, Volk wrote, “Racial injustice has been pushed by a political ideology — not a race of people. There is no systemic racism in America created by our Founding Fathers — the racism is the project of the godless Democrat Party that has rejected God, family, faith and America and embraced secularism in the form of Marxism.”
In that e-mail, Volk vowed that CRT “will never be taught in our district,” adding, “We will not teach institutionalized bigotry promoted by the left.” Volk also said that it is “time to move away from godless corrupt woke, left-wing ideology and back to the devout Christ-centered republic the founders envisioned.”

Can Democrats improve their 2022 outlook? Certainly. But they will need to adjust their message in several respects if they want to survive 2022 (and beyond), protect democracy from the authoritarian Republican Party and secure a comfortable governing majority. Democrats, in addition to finally investing in down-ballot races and grass-roots organizing, would be wise to stick to five basic themes between now and the 2022 midterm elections.
Stress that there is only one pro-democracy party. The White House could use a point person on threats to democracy, and progressives need a unified message to explain the stakes to voters. They should be clear: Republicans want to rig elections and to stop people from voting to keep them out of office. Democrats seem bizarrely averse to making the most unhinged characters on the right the face of the GOP. They should instead focus on their recklessness as Republicans egg on violent elements, disregard election results and play to white supremacists. Democrats must pound this message: “Republicans are a threat to democracy, to law and order and to common courtesy.”
Stop the hand-wringing and paint a portrait of “Morning in America.” The economy is improving, vaccines are allowing us to return to normal and a 21st-century plan for shiny new infrastructure will make Americans richer with new high-paying jobs and improve their quality of life (through shorter commutes, policies to address extreme weather, etc.). Naturally, this only works if the economy continues to boom, inflation recedes and the pandemic ceases to be a threat. But citing the progress toward this bright future is essential for the party in power.
Present themselves as the party of work and family, and Republicans as defenders of rich tax scofflaws and climate change culprits. Forget “Build Back Better”; it’s “Help Workers Get Rich.” It is not about what Democrats are giving people, but what people are able to attain when given a fair shot. Not welfare.
By freeing parents up to work, alleviating the shortage of quality child care, cutting taxes through a fully refundable child tax credit, protecting unions and restoring overtime for gig workers, Democrats are making it easier to be successful as well as cheaper to raise kids. Republicans defend billionaires who pay no taxes; Democrats go after Big Pharma companies that are gouging consumers (Don’t Democrats know how to play the class warfare card?)
Return to an oldie but goodie from the Clinton presidency: “There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America.” Democrats are labeled as surly critics of America who dwell on the “bad stuff." They could use some patriotic, optimistic rhetoric. It is not enough to highlight systemic racism. In fact, the purpose of looking back is to figure out what we need to do to make our country better. Democrats must tell voters how we can reform our institutions (better policing, a fairer justice system, make voting easier and more secure) and restore respect and empathy for one another. Democrats should vow to put an end to vigilantism and political violence (both of which the GOP, the former “law and order” party, have stoked).
Call out the GOP’s war on women. With the likely repudiation of nearly half a century of precedent on abortion, the right-wing Supreme Court majority is poised to revoke a fundamental constitutional right for the first time in history. Republican legislatures and governors stand at the ready to compel women to give birth against their will, an exercise of governmental oppression unthinkable just a few years ago.
The Republican Party, in the most basic sense, is therefore refusing to trust and respect women’s choices in the most intimate aspects of their lives. And they are willing to run roughshod over the doctor-patient relationship to enforce their view of “personhood” rooted in a single religious tradition. If voters care about privacy, personal autonomy and limited government, they should not entrust Republicans with power.
By the end of this year, Democrats will likely have nearly completed their immediate legislative agenda with the possible exception of voting rights. (If they haven’t gotten the Build Back Better bill over the finish line by then, they are really in a heap of trouble of their own making.) Unless they repair their disjointed and often off-putting message, voters will not reward them for what will be a remarkably successful legislative year. Moreover, Republican cries of socialism, critical race theory and a stolen election will drown out everything else.
Democrats have powerful rationales for retaining majorities and statewide offices. They simply need to articulate them in accessible ways over and over again.

A year into college, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Dole left the university in 1943 to enroll in the Army. Dole's platoon was to take Hill 913. His fellow soldiers later described it as a "suicide mission."
It was April, and a stone wall and a field of landmines trapped the Americans in an exposed area. A Nazi sniper, perched in a farmhouse, began firing at the battalion, according to Dole's 1996 campaign website. The platoon leader was ordered to take out the sniper and gunners. But as Dole climbed a rocky field, his radio man was hit.
Dole crawled across the battlefield on his stomach and then pulled the wounded soldier into a foxhole. Seconds later, an exploding shell ripped into Dole's right shoulder and back. His collarbone was shattered, part of his spine was smashed and his right arm was dangling from his side.
Lying facedown in the dirt, Dole recalled being unable to see or move his arms.
"I thought they were missing," he said on his campaign website. He called for help, and two medics who tried to rescue him were gunned down. A sergeant eventually dragged him to safety.
Dole earned two Purple Hearts and was awarded the Bronze Star, but doctors weren't sure he'd survive. He was hospitalized for three years. He suffered infections, grueling therapy, several operations and in one instance developed a blood clot that nearly killed him.

Yes, the death toll is horrific – if you are a power-hungry totalitarian wannabe looking for an excuse to impose controls on your citizens. Brendan Cole reports for Newsweek:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that as of Friday, there have been no fatalities linked to Omicron but warned it could take several weeks to determine how infectious the new COVID-19 variant is.
The WHO's assurance comes as the new variant first detected in South Africa last week has now been recorded in 38 countries. In the United States, at least 29 cases of Omicron across 11 states have been reported.
Yes, Omicron is new, and it is possible that in a few weeks’ time, we will see some deaths attributed to it. Probably in people with other serious conditions. But South Africa, which has reported cases first, sees it as mild.
My hope is that the chicken little response of so many Western governments, using it as an excuse to repress their citizenry, will open a few more eyes to the scam being perpetrated in the name of public health. An even greater hope – one that depends on the track record of harm from Omicron that will unfold in the next couple of months – is that not only will the symptoms be mild, but that Omicron will confer immunity on those who recover. Possibly superior immunity to that provided by the experimental mRNA gene therapies being pushed by many of the same people peddling fear and offering repression.

There isn’t a left-wing movement to bring CRT studies to public elementary schools, middle schools or high schools.
But the far right is conflating any mention of racial justice with CRT, and Volk is a prime example. Democrats, in addition to finally investing in down-ballot races and grass-roots organizing, would be wise to stick to five basic themes between now and the 2022 midterm elections.
Stress that there is only one pro-democracy party. The White House could use a point person on threats to democracy, and progressives need a unified message to explain the stakes to voters. They should be clear: Republicans want to rig elections and to stop people from voting to keep them out of office. Democrats seem bizarrely averse to making the most unhinged characters on the right the face of the GOP. They should instead focus on their recklessness as Republicans egg on violent elements, disregard election results and play to white supremacists. Democrats must pound this message: “Republicans are a threat to democracy, to law and order and to common courtesy.”
Stop the hand-wringing and paint a portrait of “Morning in America.” The economy is improving, vaccines are allowing us to return to normal and a 21st-century plan for shiny new infrastructure will make Americans richer with new high-paying jobs and improve their quality of life (through shorter commutes, policies to address extreme weather, etc.). Naturally, this only works if the economy continues to boom, inflation recedes and the pandemic ceases to be a threat. But citing the progress toward this bright future is essential for the party in power.
Present themselves as the party of work and family, and Republicans as defenders of rich tax scofflaws and climate change culprits. Forget “Build Back Better”; it’s “Help Workers Get Rich.” It is not about what Democrats are giving people, but what people are able to attain when given a fair shot. Not welfare.
By freeing parents up to work, alleviating the shortage of quality child care, cutting taxes through a fully refundable child tax credit, protecting unions and restoring overtime for gig workers, Democrats are making it easier to be successful as well as cheaper to raise kids. Republicans defend billionaires who pay no taxes; Democrats go after Big Pharma companies that are gouging consumers (Don’t Democrats know how to play the class warfare card?)
Return to an oldie but goodie from the Clinton presidency: “There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America.” Democrats are labeled as surly critics of America who dwell on the “bad stuff." They could use some patriotic, optimistic rhetoric. It is not enough to highlight systemic racism. In fact, the purpose of looking back is to figure out what we need to do to make our country better. Democrats must tell voters how we can reform our institutions (better policing, a fairer justice system, make voting easier and more secure) and restore respect and empathy for one another. Democrats should vow to put an end to vigilantism and political violence (both of which the GOP, the former “law and order” party, have stoked).
Call out the GOP’s war on women. With the likely repudiation of nearly half a century of precedent on abortion, the right-wing Supreme Court majority is poised to revoke a fundamental constitutional right for the first time in history. Republican legislatures and governors stand at the ready to compel women to give birth against their will, an exercise of governmental oppression unthinkable just a few years ago.
The Republican Party, in the most basic sense, is therefore refusing to trust and respect women’s choices in the most intimate aspects of their lives. And they are willing to run roughshod over the doctor-patient relationship to enforce their view of “personhood” rooted in a single religious tradition. If voters care about privacy, personal autonomy and limited government, they should not entrust Republicans with power.
By the end of this year, Democrats will likely have nearly completed their immediate legislative agenda with the possible exception of voting rights. (If they haven’t gotten the Build Back Better bill over the finish line by then, they are really in a heap of trouble of their own making.) Unless they repair their disjointed and often off-putting message, voters will not reward them for what will be a remarkably successful legislative year. Moreover, Republican cries of socialism, critical race theory and a stolen election will drown out everything else.
Democrats have powerful rationales for retaining majorities and statewide offices. They simply need to articulate them in accessible ways over and over again.
Can Democrats improve their 2022 outlook? Certainly. But they will need to adjust their message in several respects if they want to survive 2022 (and beyond), protect democracy from the authoritarian Republican Party and secure a comfortable governing majority.

btw what Tucker asked Kennedy about was the unclassifying the rest of the Warren commission report and why some would still be classified. Kennedy obviously is not a Trump guy but Trump had said he was going to unclassify everything and then didn't. Kennedy said it couldn't be to protect any individual anymore so he felt it must be to protect an institution

Sure Roger... Mandates, lockdowns, restrictions are not controlling at all. Oh, and BBB is not a couple of trillions of dollars in free giveaways to the general public.
Funny how you spend all of your time telling us how wrong Republicans are to not push mandates or curfews or lock downs and how wrong they are to not support subsidies, giveaways, and vouchers for Americans... and how it ultimately will harm them.
Then turn around and suggest that Democrats are not for lock downs, mandates, subsidies, giveaways and such... but rather just want to get out of the way and let capitalism work for people.
What is your real position here?

I am not opposed to all forms of control.
I think, for example, laws keeping us from taking advantge of child labor (as we did once in cotton mills), are
good.
Laws intended to keep people from infecting one another during a rampaging pandemic are also good.
We have seen in the past what happens when we over-emphasize rugged individualsm. It leads to robber barons taking over and workers being forced to work for a pittance. It leads to the dictatorship of the wealthy oligarchy, the dictatorship of the selfish millionaires and billionaires who care only for themselves.
We have had that in the past, and the presidencies of the two Roosevelts pushed back against it, and they were right.
It is time for new Teddy and Franklin Roosevelts to emerge in our body politic, Presidents committed to real justice and equality for all.

But when you cannot walk around in public without a mask, demand a vaccine passport to enter a restaurant (as we have here) or when you cannot travel without taking a Covid test, or when you turn to Dr Fauci to determine whether you can celebrate Christmas... that goes a little bit beyond "encouragement".
So Reverend... are we in agreement that mandates and restrictions are a bridge too far and that the Government should only be allowed to "encourage"?

Meanwhile, everything Fauci has said is completely inconsistent with actual data as well as what Fantini has forecast. Everything he has said seems clearly aimed at instilling fear about omicron so that invasive, authoritarian government actions and continued push for vaccines could be justified.
Conclusions
A review of studies found unequivocally that COVID vaccines do not stop viral transmission, with no difference between vaccinated and unvaccinated people. So, all real-world evidence is that omicron cannot be effectively addressed by COVID vaccines. Together with Fantini's work, the proper conclusion it that omicron will not be very transmissible nor be more infective than delta.
Because mutations will continue to produce variants, it is critically important to use the work of Fantini to accurately assess whether or not a new variant should evoke the fears and government responses that have sprung up so quickly for omicron.

The BBB bill does provide assistance to get people out of poverty, and that is good for the economy! They will pay taxes without build back better than before.
It's not welfare anymore because they will be working..

* It also omits the September 11 attacks. But it does require students to “identify and evaluate how governmental and non-governmental institutions have responded to foreign and domestic terrorism in the United States, including xenophobia and Islamophobia.” (9.4.18.15)

The third draft, like earlier drafts, eliminates the most basic facts of world history from the K-12 curriculum.
For example,
* Ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages, the French Revolution, Napoleon and the Russian Revolution receive no mention.
* The Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution—both world-transforming developments—appear only once: to highlight the role that Islam played. (“Identify the influence of Islamic centers of learning on the European Renaissance, the scientific revolution and society today.”) (9.4.22.3)

It goes on and on. The Left’s poisonous hostility toward the United States is the dominant feature of these proposed standards, and is the essence–the whole point–of Critical Race Theory. And don’t assume that initiatives like these are occurring only in liberal states.
