Are comparisons to Reagan's pledge about a woman unfair?

Biden's Supreme Court pledge is not Reagan's nor Trump's—it's unfair
Various commentators insisted that Biden did exactly what Reagan did in 1980 when he pledged to appoint a woman to the Court. The comparison, however, shows the opposite. Reagan did not exclude anyone other than women in being considered while making clear that he wanted to give one of his vacancies to a female candidate. On Oct. 15, 1980, Reagan declared that "I am announcing today that one of the first Supreme Court vacancies in my administration will be filled by the most qualified woman I can possibly find. … It is time for a woman to sit among the highest jurists."
Notably, it was Jimmy Carter who pounced on that pledge as creating a threshold gender criteria. Others noted at the time that Reagan was simply pledging that he would select a woman in "one of the first Supreme Court vacancies" rather than the first vacancy. Indeed, when a vacancy did arise, aides told the media that there was "no guarantee" that he would select a woman. Reagan never pledged to only consider women and in fact considered non-female candidates. One of the leading contenders was considered Judge Lawrence Pierce, an African American trial court judge. Newsweek and other media sites listed an array of males being actively considered including Robert Bork, Dallin H. Oaks, Malcolm R. Wilkey, Philip B. Kurland, and Edwin Meese III.
Nevertheless, Reagan clearly wanted a female candidate and reportedly told White House Deputy Chief of Staff Michael Deaver to "find a woman who was qualified and come back and discuss it if that wasn’t possible." That person was Sandra Day O'Connor. Reagan did what many universities do in seeking to add diversity in admissions while not excluding other applicants. The Supreme Court has allowed universities to use race or gender as a factor in seeking to create a diverse "critical mass" on campuses.

I think there are plenty of subtle differences here between the Reagan pledge and the Biden pledge. I think it is definitely a reality that Presidents want to consider gender and race when appointing any position. The fact that Biden also added the lackluster and unqualified Kamala Harris to his ticket was 100% because she was a black woman. Perhaps it even helped him win an election. In politics almost everything is done more for politics than for the good of the country.

Is it "fair" to the dozens of qualified candidate who have worked their whole lives to put themselves in a position to possibly be considered for a coveted spot on the USSC to not be provided a chance because they have the wrong sexual organs and/or the wrong skin color? Of course not. That is why choosing employees based on gender or race is considered illegal. It's why Harvard is being sued for bending their qualifications and admissions in a manner that discriminates against Asian and White Americans.

Obviously nobody is going to sue the Administration for discrimination because Biden chooses to restrict his search down to a less than 7% of the population. But it does create a situation where the President is insisting that 93% of our American population is not currently meeting his sexual and racial qualifications for the job. It's one thing to say a woman (when women make up 52% of the population) but it's another to pick specific attributes that are this small.

Joe Biden is doing this 100% for political purposes. He feels (right or wrong) that this is a fight that will help his Party. Not sure if it will help or hurt in the long term, but there can be no question that by limiting his search to the point where people are actually considering Kamala Harris as a possibility tells us that this could go very wrong.

People like you are going fu**** crazy because, We’re actually likely to see Biden choose a candidate whose talents, expertise, and skill are unassailable, because she will have already been scrutinized in ways her white and male peers never had to face. To have arrived at the point of being picked for a SCOTUS seat is to have already navigated a racist and sexist career minefield for any Black woman.

The problem isn’t that we’re going to have a Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court, it’s that it took this long for us to get here, and people are still effectively claiming it shouldn’t happen.

I supported Reagan in regards to his appointment.

The right wing is going crazy.

You are claiming it's affirmative action, not based upon her qualifications.

You believe he is not capable of being objective, but just a hack.

Because it is. If your very first qualification(s) are race and gender, that's affirmative action DEFINED.

This situation just drips with irony. Brandon is a virulent racist with a demonstrable record of sexual assault, and his priorities are race (BLACK) and gender (FEMALE).

Now that Joe Biden has promised to ignore any and all potential Supreme Court nominees not equipped with black skin and a vagina, we thought we'd examine both the awfulness and the illegality of that decision.

First things first, though: The Democrats are desperate to paint Republicans as opposed to seeing a black woman on the Supreme Court. Indeed, CNN analyst and former Bill Clinton mouthpiece Joe Lockhart gave the game away yesterday when he said, "Ahead of the midterms, I look forward to watching every Republican senator oppose the first black woman to the Supreme Court."

We hate to disappoint Joe and his fellow Demo race-baiters, but that's not going to happen.

Republicans are not and never have been opposed to the presence of a well-qualified black woman on the High Court. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for "Jungle" Joe Biden, the "You Ain't Black" Kid, the lickspittle of old Southern segregationists, the guy who in 2003 filibustered George W. Bush's nomination of Janice Rogers Brown, an associate justice on the California Supreme Court, to serve on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals.

The DC Circuit is universally regarded as the nation's second-most influential court, and it's also the primary stepping stone for eventual elevation to the Supreme Court. Two years later, in 2005, Brown was finally confirmed to the DC Circuit, but that was just one month before Bush nominated Brown's DC Circuit colleague, John Roberts, to the Supreme Court.

So, had Joe Biden not filibustered her original nomination, Judge Janice Rogers Brown might have become the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. And here we thought Biden was against the filibuster, that vile relic of the Jim Crow South.

In fairness to Biden, maybe he's against it for all instances except denying well-qualified black women a spot on the federal bench. Or maybe ol' Scranton Joe is just against black judges generally, unless he's trying to buy votes or coax out a crucial presidential primary endorsement. After all, as pundit Benny Johnson points out, "The only black person serving on the Supreme Court today was personally attacked, defamed, and slandered by Joe Biden before he voted AGAINST him."

On second thought, then, we can scrap the aforementioned fairness. And Biden and his fellow hypocrites can spare us the sanctimony. We wish him well in finding a nominee who is "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean."

Is Delay Weakening the January 6 Investigation?

Jonathan Bernstein:
“The one-year anniversary of the attacks has come and gone. Legislation to address some of the procedural weaknesses that Trump tried to exploit is moving ahead in the Senate before the committee reveals any of the evidence it has compiled. Eight weeks ago, the select committee was already slower than initial investigations of Watergate, Iran-contra, and the Trump-Ukraine scandals.

“Each week, the committee’s case that it is investigating an urgent threat to the republic is harder to make. Every week, it becomes easier for Trump and his allies to argue that the insurrection is ancient news, and that Democrats are just digging it up now to embarrass Republicans before the midterm elections in November.”
________

Good question. However, if some really horrendous charges come out of it, including indictments of Trump himself for criminal activity, the Republicans will richly deserve to be embarrassed.

Stephen Hayes, a conservative journalist and commentator who left Fox News last year over the company's publication of a controversial documentary about the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, is joining NBC News.

Hayes, CEO of the political news and commentary website The Dispatch, will join NBC as a contributor and political analyst and is slated to appear on “Meet The Press” this Sunday, the network announced on Friday.

"I’ve known and worked with Steve Hayes on and off for nearly 25 years. He is a principled reporter and analyst who always puts truth and facts above emotion and sentiment … even when it comes to our beloved Green Bay Packers," NBC News Political Director and Moderator of "Meet The Press" Chuck Todd said as part of NBC's announcement.

Hayes will be a key contributor to the network's special political and election coverage, including on streaming and digital as the outlet covers this year’s midterms and the 2024 presidential election.

In November, Hayes and fellow conservative pundit Jonah Goldberg announced they had decided to quit Fox News, where they had been contributors for years, saying they had grown increasingly concerned with the content of Fox's prime-time opinion lineup, specifically host Tucker Carlson's documentary series examining the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Fox argued at the time of their resignations that the network did not plan to renew the contracts of Hayes and Goldberg.

"Indeed, the news side of Fox routinely does what it is supposed to do: It reports the truth," Hayes and Goldberg wrote in a joint blog post announcing their decision. "But the voices of the responsible are being drowned out by the irresponsible."

A so-called Never Trump conservative, Hayes worked at the now-defunct political commentary magazine The Weekly Standard for nearly two decades, first as a staff writer and eventually as the magazine’s editor-in-chief.

Unlike Faux news NBC hires conservative Republicans not Pope Donald Trump supporter.

The Pentagon spokesman said that we will not attack Russian troops.

But just before they said

MOSCOW — Russia insisted on Friday that it will not start a war with Ukraine after President Joe Biden warned there is a “distinct possibility” that Moscow could invade its neighbor in February.

As the West awaited the Kremlin's next move, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said his country did not want war but would not allow its interests to be "rudely attacked" or ignored either.

"If it depends on the Russian Federation, then there will be no war," he said during a live interview with Russian radio stations early Friday. "But I do not rule out that someone would like to provoke military action [around Ukraine]."

Tensions have been building for weeks, with Washington and its European allies scrambling to deter a Russian invasion. Moscow has amassed an estimated 125,000 troops on its neighbor's border and issued a series of bold demands, but repeatedly denied planning any attack.

In his first public reaction to the West's response to those demands, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday the U.S. and NATO had not addressed his country's "fundamental concerns."

Putin said he would study the written responses carefully before deciding on next steps, according to a Kremlin readout of his video call with French President Emmanuel Macron.

We are avoiding war and are not surrendering to Russia Russia Russia Russia.

The chairman of Ukraine's parliament has sent a letter to eight U.S. senators outlining four specific requests for security assistance and sanctions that Kyiv believes will help deter a Russian invasion, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: The Ukrainian government is leaning on Congress — and a bipartisan group of senators negotiating compromise language on sanctions that could pass the Senate — in an effort to push the U.S. posture beyond the Biden administration's approach.

Like the Ukrainian government, Republicans are pushing for the bill to impose some sanctions now, before Russia invades. But Ukraine's intervention in yet another U.S. legislative fight is unlikely to please a Biden administration already frustrated with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

What they're saying: "Ukraine speaks from centuries of experience. We understand Russia," Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk wrote in the letter, which also thanks Congress for ongoing bipartisan support. "We know what will and will not deter the occupants of the Kremlin."

Details: The four requests were approved by Zelensky's administration, according to two sources familiar with the matter. They include:

"Expedited and higher-impact security assistance, including air defense, anti-ship and anti-armor capabilities, and flexible loans and financing mechanisms.""Immediate, mandatory sanctions" against the operator of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which the letter calls "no less an existential threat to Ukraine's security and democracy than the Russian troops on our border.""A clear trigger" for sanctions based on Russia's actions, with a lower threshold than what has been outlined in the current Democratic-sponsored legislation under consideration."Mandatory pre-trigger and post-trigger sanctions against all of Russia's most significant financial institutions."

State of play: The eight senators who received the letter are Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.).

WSJ says wage increases are not the major reason for high inflation rates.

Employers spent 4% more on wages and benefits last year as workers received larger pay raises in a tight labor market, rebounding economy and period of accelerating inflation, marking an increase not seen since 2001.

The U.S. employment-cost index—a quarterly measure of wages and benefits paid by employers—showed that costs continued to rise at the highest rate in two decades. The fourth-quarter gain, compared with a year ago, was 4% on a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the Labor Department said Friday.

Still, the figures offered a sign that labor-cost increases could be easing, with the Labor Department reporting a seasonally adjusted 1% rise in compensation for the fourth quarter, down from with a 1.2% increase the previous three months.

Separate economic figures showed that the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation, the core personal-consumption expenditures price index, accelerated to 4.9% in December 2021 over the prior year. And household spending fell 0.6% last month, the Commerce Department said Friday, as consumers pulled back on shopping for goods during the last month of the holiday season.

Rising pay and benefits are putting more money in workers’ pockets—average hourly wages rose 4.7% in December from a year earlier—but not enough to keep pace with rising prices. Inflation recently hit its fastest pace in nearly four decades amid supply and demand imbalances for both goods and labor related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Economists caution that there are numerous factors contributing to high inflation during the pandemic, especially an overwhelmed supply chain.

The Fed will increase interest rates to reduce inflation pressure .

First, the Fed plans to raise interest rates.

To combat inflation, the Fed plans to start by raising the Fed funds rate, its benchmark short-term interest rate, which it has held near zero since March 2020. It’s likely to start in March. How high that rate will go, and how quickly, isn’t clear.

The Fed lowered rates to the “zero bound” for the first time during the financial crisis of 2008. It was part of a great experiment, an effort to rescue the shaken financial system and the sinking economy when Ben S. Bernanke was chair.

But the experiment never really ended. Because the economy remained weak, the Fed didn’t begin raising rates until December 2015, and it never got far.

By 2019, when Mr. Powell was chair, the Fed funds rate had reached only 2.50 percent before signs of economic weakness made the Fed stop. In March 2020, it fell back to nearly zero. By contrast, the Fed funds rate was as high as 6.60 percent as recently as July 2000.

So there is reason for skepticism about how far the Fed will be able to go this time. Rising interest rates tend to reduce economic activity, which, in turn, tends to reduce the rate of inflation. Interest on car loans and some credit card loans will rise along with short-term rates, for example. That can be expected to cut demand for cars and, perhaps, thwart further big price increases.

But if the economy weakens too much, the Fed might reverse itself once more. Yet if inflation keeps rising, the central bank could be forced into far harsher measures than it now contemplates.

Next, the $8.9 trillion balance sheet.

After the Fed starts to raise rates, Mr. Powell said, it will use another tool: paring the bonds and other securities on its huge balance sheet.

The assets owned by the Fed swelled in another grand experiment of 2008, known as quantitative easing, in which the Fed began buying bonds and mortgage-backed securities. Those purchases had the effect of lowering interest rates in the bond market.

A broad range of investments by families, private businesses and giant corporations are tied to those rates. And low bond market rates helped to make stocks comparatively attractive and to set off a bull market, which is threatened now by the Fed’s imminent policy reversal: quantitative tightening.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The amounts involved in the Fed’s quantitative easing have been staggering. Back in 2008, the Fed’s balance sheet had assets of $820 billion. They reached $4.5 trillion — yes, trillion — in 2015 and dropped only as low as $3.76 trillion in the summer of 2019. With the coronavirus financial crisis, they have ballooned again, to $8.9 trillion, and may swell a bit more before the spigot shuts. Assets held by the Fed are already more than 10 times their size in 2008, and bigger, as a proportion of gross domestic product, than at any time since World War

What is inflation? Inflation is a loss of purchasing power over time, meaning your dollar will not go as far tomorrow as it did today. It is typically expressed as the annual change in prices for everyday goods and services such as food, furniture, apparel, transportation and toys.

What causes inflation? It can be the result of rising consumer demand. But inflation can also rise and fall based on developments that have little to do with economic conditions, such as limited oil production and supply chain problems.

Where is inflation headed? Officials say they do not yet see evidence that rapid inflation is turning into a permanent feature of the economic landscape, even as prices rise very quickly. There are plenty of reasons to believe that the inflationary burst will fade, but some concerning signs suggest it may last.

Is inflation bad? It depends on the circumstances. Fast price increases spell trouble, but moderate price gains can lead to higher wages and job growth.

How does inflation affect the poor? Inflation can be especially hard to shoulder for poor households because they spend a bigger chunk of their budgets on necessities like food, housing and gas.

Can inflation affect the stock market? Rapid inflation typically spells trouble for stocks. Financial assets in general have historically fared badly during inflation booms, while tangible assets like houses have held their value better.

The Fed’s monetary stimulus accompanied a total of roughly $5 trillion in pandemic fiscal relief by the federal government. Governments and central banks around the world engaged in emergency relief spending, too. The global fiscal and monetary stimulus total amounts to $25 trillion, according to Chris Dillon, a global investment specialist with T. Rowe Price, the asset management company based in Baltimore. This year, that flow is being reduced to a comparative trickle.

The risks of moving at the wrong pace.

Calibrating the combined effects of quantitative tightening and interest rate increases in real time is exceedingly difficult. Cut off stimulus too rapidly and the Fed could further unnerve financial markets. It could conceivably cause a spike in unemployment and a sharp slowdown in growth, plunging the United States into a recession.

Move too gingerly, on the other hand, and the Fed could allow elevated inflation expectations to become embedded, making high inflation even more damaging. The last time that happened, when Paul A. Volcker was Fed chairman from 1979 until 1987, it took brutally high interest rates, soaring unemployment and two recessions to wring high inflation out of the national psyche.

Prosecutors are asking that a man who repeatedly punched police officers guarding the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 be sentenced to more than two years behind bars.

Mark Leffingwell, 52, admitted to punching two Capitol Police officers multiple times during a face-to-face confrontation on Jan. 6, when a mob of Donald Trump supporters breached the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential election.

“Leffingwell, a military veteran who once defended the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, willingly betrayed his nation and became an enemy of the United States on January 6,” prosecutors said in a sentencing memorandum filed Wednesday.

Prosecutors say that Leffingwell flew from his home in Seattle to Philadelphia, where he met up with a friend before driving down to Washington, D.C. for the events of Jan. 6.

He wasn’t among the first in the crowd to face off against police. In fact, prosecutors say, he and his friend had stopped for lunch after Trump’s so-called “Stop the Steal” rally before rejoining the crowd at the Capitol. By that time, the building “had already been assaulted by the first wave of several hundred violent rioters,” according to prosecutors.

Leffingwell made his way to the Senate Wing doors of the Capitol building, and positioned himself in front of a group of officers that had gathered to keep additional rioters from getting in to the building.

“As he stood at the front of the crowd of rioters behind him, Leffingwell chanted not only ‘stop the steal!’ but also ‘shame!’ and ‘join us!’ directed at the police officers standing in front of him,” the government’s sentencing memo says.

Leffingwell rejected calls from fellow rioters to back off.

“Appearing to respond to the pleas of the line of officers, some of the crowd began to call back to the rioters behind them to ‘back up!’ Rather than back up, Leffingwell called out for the rioters to stand their ground, shouting ‘If you back up, you’ll never get back in!’ At that point, the line of officers began pressing on the crowd, including Leffingwell, to back them out of the threshold of the Senate Wing doors. Leffingwell had a choice: either comply with the direction of the officers or fight back. He chose the latter.”

That’s when Leffingwell started swinging, according to prosecutors. He first punched Capitol Police Officer Daniel Amendola in the head, and then punched officer Wyatt Hart, also in the head. He then punched Amendola once more.

“Though his first punch met riot gear, he was undeterred, and kept punching until he was eventually pacified,” the prosecutors’ sentencing memo says.

Leffingwell then “tried to back out of the doors and into the safety of the sympathetic crowd behind him, but he was apprehended and taken to the ground,” prosecutors say in the memo.

Best qualified Judge in the country just happen to be a black woman?

Of our current 9 Justices, 8 of them came from appellate courts and had an average of 8 years of experience at that level. The only exception was Kagan who was Solicitor General before her nomination after spending most of her career as an academic and lawyer.

There are like 180 appellate level Judges, some spending as many as three decades sitting as an appellate judge.

The top two choices at this point is someone who was just appointed to the appellate court in 2021 by Biden, and the other is part of the California Supreme Court. Those appear to be the front runners unless he decides to go completely outside of the norm.

Well Rog...

As I told you the first time you posted this.

If a guy punches police for any reason then they need to prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Our law enforcement should never be subject to that sort of attack. Doesn't matter if the police are Capital Police, Minneapolis Police, Portland Police, or Seattle Police...

as least in my mind.

Of course the only people being prosecuted are the Capital rioters and the only police being protected are the Capital police. The rest are told to suck it and given the big middle finger by our politicians.

It's the reason that Seattle is down 880 cops when we are supposed to have 1500-1600. They quit because our prosecutors won't charge anyone. Protesters here and in Portland are arrested and back out the next day attacking police again.

So I have one standard Roger.

Protect your law enforcement.

You have a one standard for one riot and completely different ones for other riots. You know, because of George Floyd or something.

Nope never said that Roger...

But you believe it's okay for police to be attacked in protests over George Floyd... because...

well why, exactly Roger?

Why should someone rioting be allowed to attack law enforcement and not be charged? What is your reasoning?

Please explain why the police officer in Minneapolis (people I know who have families and children) should be attacked and the attackers be set free, but other police officers should be protected?

What did these Mpls Police officers do to deserve assault Roger?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Although the majority of the thousands of protesters remained peaceful, police arrested people carrying weapons and who were suspected of throwing rocks and bottles, as well as hundreds who continued to protest after a curfew set by Mayor Michael Hancock.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office and the Denver City Attorney’s Office provided The Denver Post with lists of protest-related prosecutions that, combined, totaled 389 cases. The cases involved incidents from May to September 2020.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Protesters arrested after the May 25 death of George Floyd were a diverse, young group of people who demonstrated close to home and were charged largely with nonviolent crimes, according to a Washington Post review of data on more than 2,600 people detained in 15 cities.

The data contradicts suggestions by President Trump and other officials that those who took to the streets were mostly agitators from out-of-town, committing felonious acts.

Floyd’s death while in the custody of Minneapolis police launched one of the largest waves of civil unrest — and arrests — in the nation since the Vietnam War. In the first two weeks, police arrested more than 17,000 people in the 50 largest cities that had organized protests, according to a Post survey of news releases, arrest reports and aggregate data provided by police.

Details of those arrests are not available in most of the cities, though they are widely presumed to be a public record. A patchwork of state record laws and police reporting practices has shielded them from scrutiny.

The Post’s analysis found the overwhelming majority arrested in those 15 cities — 2,059 of the 2,652 — were accused of nonviolent misdemeanors, most on charges of violating curfew or emergency orders.

Almost 22 percent — 582 — were charged with crimes related to violence or the threat of violence to people, businesses or property. These included misdemeanor or felony charges related to rioting, burglary, looting, attempted murder, assault on police, weapons and arson. The remaining 11 cases of the 2,652 were nonviolent felonies, including parole violations, drug charges and driving while intoxicated.

The liberal order on which a democratic society depends rests ultimately on reason, not ideology. Science is the guardian and embodiment of rationality. If liberal, the gatekeepers of the scientific forum, do not defend science against the power-hungry nihilism of identity politics, who will? Even the editors of such important scientific journals as Science and Nature flirt too heavily with neo-Lysenkoist paradigms. They, and Helmuth, should bear in mind that when you mix science and politics, the result is politics.

Science is respected because it pursues objective truth and ignores ideology. As soon as a drop of politics contaminates the scientific pool, science loses credibility. This is a serious problem for the academic world, which has let neo-Lysenkoists burrow into its citadels and ivory towers and proclaim their anti-Darwinian nonsense.

Ordinary people recognize idiocy when they hear it and are tuning out what academics tell them. A hundred Nobel laureates have signed a letter? Then obviously the opposite position must be true. Professors may deplore the proles for their anti-vaxxer sentiments, their skepticism of global warming, and their refusal to listen to their intellectual betters. But instead of disdaining the intellect of others, the academic profession might instead wonder whether it is itself to blame for condoning absurd wokeist theories that have spurred the rise of Trumpist anti-intellectualism.

Incredible Show of Force at Funeral of Slain Cop Jason Rivera In NYC

Remember, he was gunned down by a criminal out on the streets because of leftwing bail "reform."

And then Governor Karen came out and blamed the "illegal gun."

I think this is a political statement.

And I think the statement is: start prosecuting and jailing criminals, or we'll strike, or stage a major slowdown, and leave you to the whims of the criminals you love so very much.

And I think New York City will choose the criminals.

And New York City will deserve what they get.

And then if people are being attacked by thugs and killers, they can say a prayer to Saint George Floyd of the Voluminous Colon.

Lots of people arrested, Roger.

The police are who arrest people.

In Minneapolis, Seattle, and in Portland the vast majority of those people were never actually charged. Most were released same night or next day. In Portland and here in Seattle police stated that they were being attacked by the same people they arrested the day before.

Why do you think Seattle is 600-700 police short? They have gotten zero support from politicians and prosecutors.

We have one riot and we have 600 people "charged" including people charged for "parading" - which means they were literally just carrying a sign or marching around the capital. People who never went in, never hurt anyone, never did anything except protest.

But you scream LOCK EM UP! They believe the BIG LIE and should go to jail.

Why? Because you hate freedom of speech when that speech is something you disagree with. But hey, it's okay for thugs to actually take over a police station and control city blocks in capital hill. That was not any sort of coup or insurrection other than they literally attacked the local authorities, took over a police station, guarded their borders with guns, declared themselves independent and started trying to put together a makeshift government.

None of them were prosecuted.

But the 60 year old woman carrying an American flag too close to the capital building is being charged and you are DEMANDING JAIL TIME!

so you feel better about your own claims.

And you wonder why Biden has 40% approvals and Dems are getting crushed in the generic ballot.

Scott, Biden thinks it's high time that a Black woman served on the Supreme Court—and surely it is—he's not bypassing "better qualified" prospects. And she'll be just as qualified as anyone else.
