All President Biden Job Approval Polling Data

Watching the Press Conference today I was struck by a couple of his responses.

The first was when he was asked what he would do differently in his second year, his answers were all political rather than tangible. There was nothing about Covid, nothing about inflation, nothing about crime, nothing about national security, nothing abut the border, nothing dealing with Russia or anything about any international issues. It was all about how he was going to work differently as to how to "sell" himself, redefine his Presidency, and how to push his Party to victory in the midterm. He was going to talk to more people, raise his profile, campaign and raise money, etc. In other words, there was nothing to suggest he really gives a shit about anyone he is supposed to be leading. Just that his goals as President is to retain power.

Secondly, when he was asked about how he is attempting to push the country to the left, he suggested he wasn't and used the logic that 48 out of 50 Democrats support him. When asked about why even a fair percentage of Democrats (nearly 50%) question his fitness for office, he stated that he didn't understand why they would think that. When asked about a particular poll showed certain things he stands for to be very unpopular he suggested he didn't believe in polls. In other words, he refuses to really accept the perceptions or in this case the realities about him and his performance. He believes that the other 52 Senators are far right and everyone questioning him has no valid reason to do so.

If you put the two responses together it seems clear that Joe Biden believes he is doing everything well and that whatever issues people have are not valid and can be changes with just being a better salesman for his cause. No need to shift policy or priority.

This is exactly how and why someone falling in the polls could very well continue to fall in the polls even further. The stubborn belief that everything is just optics and not real, when in fact he is the one trying to sell the optics and the actual tangible reality is what we see from the RCP averages.

President Biden Wednesday marked the end of his first year in office with a marathon press conference from the White House East Room, during which he defended his record in office and made headlines on several fronts.

Why it matters: It was only Biden's second solo presser while in office. The president said he would support splitting his flagship budget bill, the Build Back Better Act, to pass it in increments. He also called on the Federal Reserve to do more against inflation, and predicted that Russia will invade Ukraine.

On Russia:

"My guess is he will move in," Biden said of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the crisis brewing between his country and Ukraine.

U.S. officials have already issued a series of warnings about Russia's threatening military buildup on the border with Ukraine, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken saying in Kyiv earlier Wednesday that Russia could invade "on very short notice."

Biden said that Russia will be "held accountable if it invades" but appeared to imply that a "minor incursion" would illicit a less significant response.

"It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about what to do and not do, et cetera," Biden said. "But if Russia launches a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, this would be a "disaster for Russia."

"I think he still does not want any full-blown war, number one. Number two, do I think he'll test the west? Test the United States and NATO as significantly as he can? Yes, I think he will. But I think he'll pay a serious and dear price for it that he doesn't think now will cost him what it's going to cost him. And I think he'll regret having done it. My guess is he will move in. He has to do something."

On inflation:

After the country saw 7% inflation in 2021, Biden said fighting inflation is the job of the Federal Reserve — an endorsement the central bank's shift toward higher interest rates.

Our thought bubble, via Axios' Neil Irwin: The comments reflect the Biden administration's conviction that getting inflation under control is crucial to the president's political future — and that tools the administration directly controls are ill-suited to the job.On midterms:

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Biden said he believes the upcoming 2022 midterms could "easily be illegitimate" without voting rights reforms that he and Democrats have pushed. A bill addressing that seemed destined to fail in the Senate Wednesday night.

"The prospect of an illegitimate [election] is in direct proportion to us being able to get these reforms passed, but I don't think ... you're gonna see the Democratic Party give up on coming back."On BBB:

A month after the Build Back Better Act failed to garner the support of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) — all but guaranteeing its downfall — Biden said he still believes he can get "big chunks" of the legislation through Congress.

"I'm confident we can get pieces — big chunks — of the Build Back Better law signed into law," Biden said."I've been engaged a long time in public policy," Biden continued, "and I don't know many things that have been done in one fell swoop."On COVID response:

Biden conceded that the U.S. should have done more testing earlier on during his first year in office.

"Should we have done more testing earlier? Yes," he said. "But we're doing more now ... We've gone from zero at-home tests a year ago to 375 million tests on the market in just this month."On Harris in 2024:

The president was unequivocal that Vice President Kamala Harris will be his running mate in 2024, and said he was satisfied with her handling of the administration's voting rights efforts. Biden tasked her with spearheading that effort at the start of this administration.

"She's going to be my running mate, number one," Biden said. "And number two, I did put her in charge. I think she's doing a good job."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It is sad, depressing and enraging to watch as the Senate refuses to defend voting rights, largely those of Black and brown people.

This rue-the-day moment is also a déjà vu moment. As a country, we have been here before, and it ended in about 70 years of brutally effective suppression of Black voters during the Jim Crow era. There was a democracy in America, a white one. African Americans and some other nonwhite Americans simply weren’t part of it.

It didn’t have to be this way. The courts could have stopped Southern states from implementing Jim Crow, but they didn’t. Congress could have stepped in, but it, too, failed to act, refusing to protect Black people and their access to the ballot.

As Michael Waldman, president of Brennan Center for Justice at New York University, writes in his brilliant book, “The Fight to Vote,” Republicans — the liberal party at that time — took control of the presidency and Congress, still committed to securing the right to vote for all citizens, including Black ones.

Then, in 1890, Boston Brahmin congressman Henry Cabot Lodge proposed legislation to federally supervise Southern elections, aimed at securing equal voting rights. Opponents dubbed the mild measure the “Lodge Force Bill” and panicked. The bill passed the House, but a thirty-three-day filibuster blocked it in the Senate. This was the first successful Southern filibuster of a federal civil rights bill: a cherished tradition begins.

And yet, as if blind to history, or in eager desire to repeat it, here we are again. The mustaches and dresses have less volume, but the racism carries the same venom.

It is important to be reminded of how that first civil rights filibuster unfolded, as well as the lead up to the fight, because the similarities today are eerie.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It was already too late for the president to have the influence on the debate that the office of the presidency affords.

Kellogg concluded that “the selfish, narrow policy of the administration” had “once more run upon a political sandbar.”

The racists won and Black voters lost because the party they supported and considered their friends did not fully mobilize to defend them from the party that sought to oppress them.

Switch a few names and dates, and this story could read like today’s news. The great tragedy is that, in spirit, it is today’s news.

You won

The year-long Democratic push for federal voting rights legislation died in the Senate Wednesday night, after Republicans blocked an elections bill for the fifth time in six months and Democrats failed to unite their caucus behind a plan to rewrite the Senate’s rules and pass it anyway.
The final clash, which has been brewing since Democrats won congressional majorities a year ago as Republican legislatures in 19 states embarked on a campaign to roll back election access, began with an evening vote to close debate on a sprawling voting rights bill. That vote, at the Senate’s traditional 60-vote margin for legislation, failed on party lines.
Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) then moved to reconsider the legislation in order to propose a rules change allowing for the bill’s advancement with a simple majority of 51 votes. The Senate rejected that maneuver 52-48, with two Democrats, Joe Manchin III (W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), joining all 50 Republicans in opposition.
The late-evening vote amounted to a bitter but unsurprising finale for the Democratic voting rights effort on Capitol Hill, a campaign backed by top party leaders and pushed by key elements of its coalition even as Manchin and Sinema repeatedly made clear they would not weaken the 60-vote rule, defending it as a tool to protect minority party rights and promote bipartisanship in American democracy.
But Schumer and other top Democrats were determined to push forward with a floor confrontation regardless, even as it promised to expose bitter divisions inside their own party rather than amplify a GOP blockade that they have described as an existential threat to democracy.

The coup was started long before January 6th.
In the days before the Capitol riot, then-President Donald Trump held off-the-books meetings in the White House with mystery participants, according to his former press secretary Stephanie Grisham. The Guardian reports that Grisham made the intriguing disclosure during an early January interview with the select committee investigating the Capitol attack. Grisham reportedly told the panel that only a small number of aides were made aware of the secret meetings and she saw the former White House chief usher, Timothy Harleth, directing participants upstairs. She reportedly said she wasn’t sure who attended the meetings, but told the panel that Harleth and other Trump aides would know their identities. A spokesperson for the select committee declined to comment on The Guardian’s report, and Harleth didn’t respond to questions.

At times, it seemed like the president was shooting from the hip on a range of issues, calling into question the legitimacy of the 2022 midterms 10 months prior to the election and seemingly offering tacit approval of a “minor incursion” into Ukraine by Russia. It was the kind of unfiltered free-for-all that the press corps craves and the kind of stuff they hadn’t gotten since the previous president (reluctantly) left office.

When all was said and done, the Q&A lasted 1 hour 51 minutes, toppling previous records by Presidents Obama (1 hour 27 minutes) and Trump (1 hour 26 minutes). But Biden did more than just a new standard of verbosity and accountability. He was attempting to reset and redefine his presidency as the coronavirus continues to burn across the country and his marquee legislation languishes in Congress.

With the first question, he was asked if he had overpromised during the campaign. “I didn’t overpromise,” Biden replied, pointing to the bills he signed into law and the steps he’d taken to beat back the pandemic, “I have probably outperformed what anybody thought would happen.”

Then the president pivoted.

Many May Wish They Saw Them Sooner

“One thing I haven’t been able to do so far is get my Republican friends to get in the game of making things better in this country,” Biden said. He hadn’t expected such “a stalwart effort” from the opposition to stall each and every one of his priorities in Congress. Flipping the script, the president asked, “What are Republicans for?” He demanded, rhetorically at least, to know where the GOP stands on taxes and prescription drug prices and human rights: “Name me one thing that they are for.”

Biden believes there are a handful of Republicans willing to work with the White House. He reported there were at least five in the GOP ranks who had expressed as much to him personally. They won’t support him publicly on a “single” major issue for fear of a primary threat, he said before sighing, “That’s got to change.”

Well, what about Mitt Romney? An ABC News reporter noted that the Utah Republican had expressed a willingness to negotiate earlier in the year on changes to election law, but the president never reached out. “I was trying to make sure we got everybody on the same page in my party on this score,” he said after admonishing his GOP opponents for not coming to the table. “And I didn't call many Republicans at all.”

Because they are not Republicans anymore.

This is the best non partisan analysis

The networks carried most of the news conference live while the cable channels aired it all the way until the end. If it was must-see TV in Washington, the same was true for overseas audiences. Ukrainians, in particular.

Biden did his best to stare down Vladimir Putin, signaling that the Russian president would pay a “dear price” in lives lost at the hands of the Ukrainians should he invade, as well as “devastating” economic repercussions from the United States and allied nations. But why would sanctions scare Moscow now, given that they failed to check Russian aggression in the past? “Well,” Biden replied, “because he's never seen sanctions like the ones I promised will be imposed if he moves.” But here, in real-time in front of the cameras, the president seemed to be of two minds on the geopolitical rival.

“My guess is he will move in. He has to do something,” Biden said, predicting that Putin would invade. “I don't think he's made up his mind yet,” Biden also said, insinuating that Putin is still indecisive.

The president left reporters puzzled over just what kind of aggression would trigger a U.S. response. “It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about what to do and not do," Biden said, suggesting that NATO is not quite in sync over how to respond. "But if they actually do what they're capable of doing with the forces amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine.”

Reuters followed up, asking Biden if he was giving Russia permission “to make a small incursion into the country.” Biden laughed, admitting that is “how it did sound like, didn’t it?” But different kinds of aggression require different responses, he explained, delineating between a full-scale invasion and, for instance, “cyber efforts.” His red line was the extreme: If Russian soldiers start killing Ukrainian fighters, Biden said, “I think that changes everything.”

The clarification didn’t sit well in Kiev. After the press conference wrapped up, CNN quoted an unnamed Ukrainian government official who warned that “this remark potentially gives the green light to Putin to enter Ukraine at his pleasure. Putin senses weakness.”

An official clarification from the White House press secretary quickly followed. “President Biden has been clear with the Russian President: If any Russian military forces move across the Ukrainian border, that’s a renewed invasion, and it will be met with a swift, severe, and united response from the United States and our Allies,” Jen Psaki wrote in a statement. “President Biden also knows from long experience that the Russians have an extensive playbook of aggression short of military action, including cyberattacks and paramilitary tactics. And he affirmed today that those acts of Russian aggression will be met with a decisive, reciprocal, and united response.”

Biden's Disastrous Press Conference
You might call it: The 25th Amendment Presser

How bad was Biden today at the White House press briefing? Biden’s performance was so terrible that even the pedophile-enablers over at CNN gave it poor marks.

White House reporters have got to regain some of their dignity. Biden always takes questions from a pre-approved list and he can’t even hide the fact. It’s obvious that many of the questions are pre-planted too. Not only does this not reassure the American public — it diminishes the credibility of the press for no good reason.

The sad reality of the situation cannot be denied forever. I don’t know anyone in Washington DC who thinks Joe Biden will be around to run for political office in 2024. My sources inside the White House told me (some months ago) that Biden is known to wander around the White House in the middle of the night sometimes without clothes and with no idea where he is. (He’s got late-stage dementia — which is why they always pack him off to Delaware every weekend to keep him out of sight.) His diminished mental capacity is quite obvious, but then nobody really wants Montel Williams’ ex-girlfriend in charge of the free world.

And to sum it up.

The New York Times reported at the time that Biden “left no doubt that he has reached a breaking point when it comes to voting rights, lashing out at the holdouts in the Senate and comparing them to some of the country’s most infamous racists.” And the paper of record wasn’t alone in noting the explicit comparison. The Senate Democratic whip, Dick Durbin, told CNN shortly after Biden’s comparison that “perhaps the president went a little too far in his rhetoric — some of us do.”

“So, did you expect that that would work with Sens. [Joe] Manchin or [Krysten] Sinema?” this reporter asked in a follow-up.

“No, here’s the thing: There's certain things that are so consequential you have to speak from your heart as well as your head,” Biden replied, his voice returning to normal levels.

“I was making the case, ‘Don’t think this is a freebie. You don’t get to vote this way, and then somehow it goes away. This will stick with you the rest of your career and long after you’re gone,’” the president continued.

Just hours later, Sinema of Arizona and Manchin of West Virginia sided with Republicans to doom that effort. In a statement released by the White House, Biden said, “I am profoundly disappointed that the United States Senate has failed to stand up for our democracy.”
______
Imo our system gives the states more power than they should anymore.

Yet another poll, this time from Morning Consult/Politico taken Jan. 15-16, shows Joe Biden’s approval rating plummeting among Hispanics and mirroring that of Whites:

Hispanics
Approve: 37%
Disapprove: 55%
Net: -18

Whites
Approve: 37%
Disapprove: 62%
Net: -25

and to me even more amazing under 34 years old.... Biden approval 38%

Biden is driving the historic pipeline of the youth away from the democrat party

as well as our Hispanics

A demonstrable LIE.

Really Rat......

President Donald Trump has made his disdain of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, amply clear. He’s lambasted the decades-old alliance as “obsolete,” erroneously accused other members of owing the U.S. money and even came close last summer to threatening to withdraw America from the alliance if other members didn’t increase their defense spending.
Trump reportedly told NATO allies at a July summit that the U.S. would “go it alone” unless they boosted their financial contributions.

President Donald Trump may withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization if he is re-elected for a second term, The New York Times reported on Thursday.
Trump has repeatedly privately spoken of withdrawing from the military alliance, according to the Times.
Former senior national security officials in Trump's administration have said the move could be a great victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Are attempting to say more home sold or are you attempting to say per home costs surged?

The Times reported that while Congress would probably block Trump's effort to withdraw from the alliance, he could still take other measures to undermine it. He could, for example, loosely adhere to Article 5, which calls for collective defense.

Trump's former national security adviser John Bolton said in June that the president clashed with European leaders over his belief that other countries did not spend enough money on defense at a NATO summit in 2017.

Bolton, in his recent book "The Room Where it Happened," also said that Trump repeatedly said he wanted to quit NATO. Last month, Bolton told a Spanish newspaper that Trump could possibly even declare his intent to withdraw from the alliance in October as a promise for his second term ahead of the November election.

'There are no minor incursions': Ukrainian president rebukes Biden over remarks on Russian invasion

Matthew Brown

USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — Ukraine's president appeared to rebuke President Joe Biden Thursday after Biden suggested that a "minor incursion" by Russia into Ukraine would not merit a strong international response.

"We want to remind the great powers that there are no minor incursions and small nations," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in a tweet posted Thursday morning. "Just as there are no minor casualties and little grief from the loss of loved ones. I say this as the President of a great power."

"Nature's Morphine" May Help Relieve

Zelenskyy's comment was a remarkable retort from a close U.S. ally that has received millions of dollars in military assistance.

During a news conference Wednesday, Biden vowed to impose "severe economic consequences" should Russian President Vladimir Putin decide to invade the eastern European country.

"Russia will be held accountable if it invades," Biden said. He then went on to qualify that.

"It depends on what (Russia) does. It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about we have to do and not do," Biden said in his remarks.

The White House sought to clarify Biden's remarks after his nearly two-hour news conference. "If any Russian military forces move across the Ukrainian border, that's a renewed invasion, and it will be met with a swift, severe, and united response from the United States and our Allies," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement released Wednesday evening.

Biden approval hits new low at one-year mark: AP-NORC poll

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden ends his first year in the White House with a clear majority of Americans for the first time disapproving of his handling of the presidency in the face of an unrelenting pandemic and roaring inflation, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

More Americans disapprove than approve of how Biden is handling his job as president, 56% to 43%. As of now, just 28% of Americans say they want Biden to run for reelection in 2024, including only 48% of Democrats.

Asked on Wednesday at a wide-ranging news conference about his flagging popularity, Biden responded, “I don’t believe the polls.”

It’s a stark reversal from early in Biden’s presidency.

In July, 59% of Americans said they approved of Biden’s job performance in an AP-NORC poll. His approval rating dipped to 50% by late September in the aftermath of the chaotic and bloody U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan and amid surging coronavirus infections and the administration’s fitful efforts to push economic, infrastructure and tax policies through Congress.

The latest poll shows that Americans’ confidence in Biden’s handling of the pandemic — seen as a strength early in his administration — has further eroded as the omicron variant strains the health care system and further exhausts an American electorate that had hoped life would be back to a semblance of normalcy by now.

Just 45% say they approve of Biden’s handling of COVID-19, down from 57% in December and from 66% in July 2021.

Americans are even more downbeat about his handling of the economy, with just 37% approving. Growing angst about his economic policies comes as inflation rose at its fastest pace in nearly 40 years last month, a 7% spike from a year earlier that is increasing household expenses and eating into wage gains.

Only about a quarter were very confident that Biden “has the mental capability to serve effectively as president” or “is healthy enough to serve effectively as president.” Close to half are not confident in Biden’s mental capability or health.
