Jan 6th Commission is not just unusual but almost unprecedented...
They have no interest in seeing what security breaches led to people entering the Capitol complex or to see what can be done to stop another breach? Why is that?
The Hill’s Jordain Carney reports why Democrats are dubious about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) sudden openness to weighing proposed changes to an 1887 Electoral College law.
Harris told PBS that interest in changing the Electoral College law is “not a solution to the problem at hand.” She repeated that the administration believes federal law is required to “guarantee the freedom and right of every American to have access to the ballot to be able to vote.” She urged Congress to send the president the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act, both of which Republicans say they oppose.
DiBiase indicated that since lawmakers' initial request for footage, the department has agreed to provide footage from the entire 24 hour period of Jan. 6. The Capitol Police have also shared the 14,000-hour subset of footage with the FBI and the D.C. Metropolitan Police to support ongoing investigations. And it has shared a "very limited number" of video clips from Jan. 5 to assist the D.C. police with "potential ... incidents."
Despite the disclosure, DiBiase is silent on one crucial question: Whether the department has preserved a broader swath of Jan. 5 footage and shared it with lawmakers who have raised fears about potential "reconnaissance" efforts by would-be rioters the day before the Capitol breach. Democrats leveled the charge in the immediate aftermath of the attack, suggesting Republican lawmakers or aides may have aided the rioters, but have said little to back up their rooms
"Our concern is that providing unfettered access to hours of extremely sensitive information to defendants who have already shown a desire to interfere with the democratic process will result in the layout, vulnerabilities and security weaknesses of the Capitol being collected, exposed and passed on to those who might wish to attack the Capitol again," he said.
Prosecutors are pointing to DiBiase's affidavit as they attempt to craft a so-called "protective order" governing the sharing of sensitive information with Capitol riot defendants. They're working to build an archive of video that would permit defendants to peruse relevant clips but sharply restrict their access and permit prosecutors a chance to object if they feel such footage could be misused or present a risk.
Their efforts to set up such a system has sharply delayed prosecutions, and the U.S. Attorney's office in Washington has asked for a broad 60-day delay in many of the more than 300 Capitol riot cases as a result.

Our Democracy Won’t Fix Itself January 7, 2022 at 11:30 am EST By Taegan Goddard 42 Comments
Rick Hasen: “Those who believe the last election was stolen will be more likely to accept a stolen election for their side next time. They are more willing to see violence as a means of resolving election disputes. Political operatives are laying the groundwork for future election sabotage and the federal government has done precious little to minimize the risk.
“Many people who are not dispirited by such findings are uninterested. Exhausted by four years of the Trump presidency and a lingering pandemic, some Americans appear to have responded to the risks to our democracy by simply tuning out the news and hoping that things will just work out politically by 2024.
“We must not succumb to despair or indifference. It won’t be easy, but there is a path forward if we begin acting now, together, to shore up our fragile election ecosystem.”
Conspiracy theories have long lurked in the background of American history, said Dustin Carnahan, a Michigan State University professor who studies political misinformation. But they can become dangerous when they lead people to distrust democracy or to excuse or embrace violence.
“If we’re no longer operating from the same foundation of facts, then it’s going to be a lot harder to have conversations as a country,” Carnahan said. “It will fuel more divisions in our country, and I think that ultimately is the legacy of the misinformation we’re seeing right now.”
An examination of some of the top falsehoods about the Capitol riot and the people who have spread them:
CLAIM: THE RIOTERS WEREN’T TRUMP SUPPORTERS
In fact, many of those who cameto the Capitol on Jan. 6 have said — proudly, publicly, repeatedly — that they did so to help the then-president.
Different versions of the claim suggest they were FBI operatives or members of the anti-fascist movement antifa.
“Earlier today, the Capitol was under siege by people who can only be described as antithetical to the MAGA movement,” Laura Ingraham said on her Fox News show the night of Jan. 6, referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. “They were likely not all Trump supporters, and there are some reports that antifa sympathizers may have been sprinkled throughout the crowd.”
The next day, Ingraham acknowledged the inaccuracy when she tweeted a link to a story debunking the claim.
Another Fox host, Tucker Carlson, has spread the idea that the FBI orchestrated the riot. He cites as evidence the indictments of some Jan. 6 suspects that mention unindicted co-conspirators, a common legal term that merely refers to suspects who haven’t been charged, and not evidence of undercover agents or informants.
Yet Carlson claimed on his show that “in potentially every single case, they were FBI operatives.”
Carlson is a “main driver” of the idea that Jan. 6 was perpetrated by agents of the government, according to Zignal’s report. It found the claim spiked in October when Carlson released a documentary series about the insurrection.
Members of Congress, including Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., have helped spread the theories.
“Some of the people who breached the Capitol today were not Trump supporters, they were masquerading as Trump supporters and, in fact, were members of the violent terrorist group antifa,” Gaetz said.
Spokespeople for Carlson and Gaetz say they stand by their claims.
In truth, the rioters arejust whothey said they were.
One was a recently elected state lawmaker from West Virginia, a Republican Trump supporter named Derrick Evans who resigned following his arrest. Evans streamed video of himself illegally entering the Capitol.
“They’re making an announcement now saying if Pence betrays us you better get your mind right because we’re storming the building,” Evans said on the video. “The door is cracked! … We’re in, we’re in! Derrick Evans is in the Capitol!” Vice President Mike Pence was in the building to preside over the Senate’s certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory. Pence went ahead despite Trump’s pleas to get Pence to block the transfer of power.
During testimony before Congress under oath, FBI Director Christopher Wray was asked whether there was any reason to believe the insurrection was organized by “fake Trump protesters.”
“We have not seen evidence of that,” said Wray, who was appointed by Trump.
What Role Will January 6 Play in the Midterms? January 7, 2022 at 12:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
Amy Walter: “The following things can be true at the same time.
"First, the attack on the Capitol on January 6 was a dark moment in American history and one in which the former president bears responsibility.
"Second, the attack on the Capitol will not be a defining issue in the upcoming 2022 midterm campaign.
“The 2022 midterms will be a referendum on the current president, not the former one. This is something on which Democratic and Republican strategists I’ve spoken with agree.
"At the same time, Republicans from swing states or districts who spend their time trying to re-litigate the 2020 election or defend those who attacked the Capitol are putting themselves in political peril.” ______
So the Democrats must not overemphasize it, but must not let it go away either. ;-)
One year later, no one charged with sedition in Capitol riot, despite initial DOJ hype
One year after the Capitol riot, no one has been charged with sedition or insurrection, despite initial Justice Department claims that such charges were likely and former President Donald Trump being impeached for allegedly inciting an insurrection.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a Wednesday speech ahead of the riot’s anniversary that more than 725 defendants have been arrested. However, none of the charges have been for sedition or insurrection.
Portland, OR – Federal charges filed against a 26-year-old transgender antifa rioter arrested for assaulting law enforcement officers were recently dismissed in exchange for 30 hours of community service.
Beaverton resident Eva Warner, who is also known as Joshua Warner, was part of the riotous mob that set fire to the Portland Police Association (PPA) office on North Lombard Street and busted out the building’s windows on Aug. 8, 2020, FOX News reported.
The antifa rioters shoved dumpsters out into the street and used vehicles to block motorists.
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) declared a riot and tried to disperse the crowd, at which point Warner began shining a high-powered laser into officers’ eyes, FOX News reported.
Warner went on the fight when police tried to apprehend her, resulting in her forceable arrest.
They found the laser pointer on her person after she was taken into custody.
Warner was charged with impeding, interfering with law enforcement officers engaged in official duties and obstructing, but was quickly released without bail, FOX News reported.
She went out and joined another riotous mob about a week later and was arrested on a second-degree criminal mischief charge.
Warner was again released without bail on that occasion.
Her third arrest took place about one week later, when she was charged with second-degree disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace officer during another riot, FOX News reported.
Warner was federally indicted on Sept. 2, 2020 in connection with the Aug. 8, 2020 riot.
She faced up to five years in prison for the felony civil disorder charge she was facing, FOX News reported.
A U.S. Magistrate Judge released her from custody on Sept. 3, 2020.
On Dec. 21, Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon Scott Erik Asphaug filed a motion to dismiss the charge against Warner because she had performed 30 hours of community service as required by a Deferred Resolution Agreement, The Washington Times reported.
U.S. District Court Judge Michael Simon dismissed the indictment with prejudice the following day, according to FOX News.
Let the investigation(s) continue. We'll soon see who's been gaslighted by Trump -- namely, all his supporters who actually believe him and then try to gaslight others.
And then there are the numerous Republicans who do not believe him at all, but are too cowardly to say so.
You will yet see that he is the stinking dead albatross around the GOP's neck.
Decent, honest, truthtelling free speech advocate said... Now tell us again, as naively Ch did, that not a one of them has been charged or been convicted with being armed with weapons, including firearms.
Are you competing with roger for king of word salad ?
But if you mean has anyone been arrested inside the Capitol with a loaded firearm the answer is no. A few people out of the hundreds of thousands there that day have been charged with firearm violations.
On the other hand hundreds if not thousands of federal personnel were heavily armed including the individual who murdered an unarmed Ashli Babbit.
Because I kept reposting some posts, whoever it was doing it gave up some of the time.
If or when it happens again, I'll say so.
rrb says it has been done to him too. _______
Now tell us again, as Ch naively did, that not a one of the insurrectionists has been charged with or been convicted of being armed with weapons, including firearms.
And then there was also the little matter of a pipe bomb as well.
The Case of Ray Epps In a hallmark of the times, what many Americans are willing to believe about Jan. 6 — a day thoroughly documented in real-time by journalists, participants and cable TV, and reconstructed in the hundreds of cases being assembled by federal prosecutors — is determined by their politics, not by the facts. And amid a seemingly never-ending pandemic marked by confusing public-health messaging and government mandates, these fictional and conspiratorial accounts of the riot carry an obvious appeal, especially for Trump supporters alienated from mainstream institutions after his tumultuous presidency and election loss.
Sign Up for On Politics A guide to the political news cycle, cutting through the spin and delivering clarity from the chaos. Get it sent to your inbox.
“When I talk to folks on my side of the aisle, they’ll have a litany saying, ‘They lied to us here and flip-flopped on this,’” said Sean Spicer, Mr. Trump’s former press secretary who now hosts a show on Newsmax. “There’s such a belief that the mainstream media and most of our major institutions are not looking out for people anymore.” He added, “So when someone throws out a conspiracy it’s, ‘Why not? That’s equally plausible.’”
Adherents have built up characters to support their claims that antifa infiltrators or federal agents were the ones who whipped up the mob, in some instances doing so as events were unfolding in Washington. One is a man named Ray Epps, a Trump supporter who was captured on video the night of Jan. 5 urging his compatriots to “go into the Capitol” the next day.
Some in the crowd responded approvingly: “Let’s go!” rings out one reply.
“Peacefully,” Mr. Epps said, just before others began chanting “Fed, Fed, Fed!” at the man, who at age 60 stood out in the far-younger crowd.
Mr. Epps, who lives in Queen Creek, Ariz., where he owns Rocking R Farms and the Knotty Barn, a wedding and event venue, according to PolitiFact, appears in another video taken the next day. He is seen yelling to a crowd: “OK, folks, spread the word! As soon as the president is done speaking, we go to the Capitol. The Capitol is this direction.”
Ray Epps isn't the only J6 suspect to mysteriously disappear from the FBI's most-wanted list.
One man was filmed carrying a concealed handgun at the riot. He vanished from the list the same day the NYTimes reported an FBI informant breached the capitol.
The man, dubbed #GingerGun by online sleuths, was on the list for over 5 months before he was quietly removed from the list.
Here's video of him attempting to conceal his handgun amid a crowd of Capitol rioters.
He was pictured wearing an earpiece later during the riot.
A third man, dubbed #HarleyJacketBatonMan, was filmed beating police officers with a baton during the riot.
The FBI removed him from the list without explanation in late February, just weeks after he first appeared on the list.
So yeah, there were armed men caught on film during the "insurrection".
But for some unexplained reason the FBI removed them from their "wanted" lists
strange
Also strange that the "pipe bomber" was caught on video using a phone multiple times. Many of the protesters were arrested based on their phone records.
Amazingly the "pipe bomber" who certainly is more important than a parader still hasn't
And Garland didn't even mention him in his speech that he is still going after protesters
strange
almost looks like there was a secret FBI action going on that wasn't known to the whole FBI
Within days, stories about Mr. Epps began appearing on websites like Revolver News, which ran an article, “Meet Ray Epps: The Fed-Protected Provocateur Who Appears to Have Led the Very First 1/6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.” The Epps story gained further promotion on the far-right cable network One America News — portrayed by the correspondent Chanel Rion as evidence of “the F.B.I.’s possible involvement inciting an invasion of the Capitol” — and, far more widely, in Mr. Carlson’s “Patriot Purge.”
To date, no evidence has emerged linking Mr. Epps to the F.B.I. or any other government agency. In fact, his known connections are decidedly anti-government: In 2011, Mr. Epps served as the president of the Arizona Oath Keepers, the largest chapter of the militia group whose members were among the mob that attacked the Capitol, though it is not clear if he remains a member of the group. Yet in the days leading up to Thursday’s anniversary, and on the anniversary itself, the speculation around Mr. Epps only seemed to snowball, amplified on countless social media posts, on Mr. Bannon’s podcast — part of a possibly “massive false flag operation,” as his website put it — and on Mr. Carlson’s prime-time show on Fox News on Wednesday and again on Thursday. “Is this guy going to be charged? Where is he?” Mr. Carlson asked. “It’s a legitimate question, why won’t they answer it?”
Hey roger Epps is highly visible stirring up the crowd and the next day was in the front line of people breaching the capital. He is even caught whispering to some as they performed the initial breach
Quite a leader
He still has not been arrested
strange
glad to see you figured out he wasn't a black basketball player
Conspiracy theories have long lurked in the background of American history, said Dustin Carnahan, a Michigan State University professor who studies political misinformation. But they can become dangerous when they lead people to distrust democracy or to excuse or embrace violence.
Or they can make people believe that a legally elected President was a Russian asset and in cahoots with Vladimir Putin to steal an election from Hillary Clinton.
These absolutely bonkers crazy conspiracy types will likely hold as many as 5 different investigations unsuccessfully attempting to proof their crazy wild eyed and out of touch conspiracy...
And then when people admit that it was all a hoax...
The totally unreasonable conspiracy theorists who border on mental illness will still not accept that their conspiracy theory was wrong.
He hasn't violated the law. His first time rights allowed.

The Last Time We Had an Insurrectionist President January 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard
Daniel Gullotta: “Since he left office, former President Donald Trump has not receded into quiet retirement as most of his predecessors did. The activity and boisterousness with which he has continued to champion the Big Lie with which he incited the Jan. 6th insurrection bears comparison to only one other ex-president —one who also became president under a cloud of uncertainty, ignited calls for impeachment, alienated many both in opposition and within his own party, failed to win re-election, and fell into post-presidential ignominy: the tenth president, John Tyler…”
“Tyler’s retirement years have not been the source of much scholarly interest. But given his role in the secession of Virginia and his support for the Confederacy, Tyler’s role as a seditious former president is worth another look.”
He's talking about clowns like you who still bitterly cling to the Russia hoax Gaslight Alky.
On the flip side... there was investigations in Arizona that confirmed that they counted tens of thousands of ballots that were not technically legally cast. Several people across the country have been arrested and charged for ballot harvesting and Georgia just opened a State investigation into a ballot harvesting scheme where people were "paid" to illegally collect ballots. Whistleblowers in Pennsylvania have video evidence of election officials fairly recently going back and destroying election information that they are legally obligated to keep (because of impending investigations). Lastly, Officials in Wisconsin are withholding subpoenaed information regarding millions in contributions sent to the State and Local officials for Covid security that appears to have been illegally used to supplement Democratic GOTV drives in large Democratic areas.
So in the case of Russian collusion.
The investigations came up short and liberals stuck with their conspiracy.
In the case of election fraud.
These investigations are showing all sorts of fraud, illegal activity, or cover up and liberals are still demanding there is no truth to it.
So it makes you wonder where the logic comes from?

Well Reverend...
Do you have the ability to delete anyone else's comments other than your own? When you do delete them, it will show up as deleted by author. If I delete them, it shows as deleted by Administrator.
But in your case... such as last night. You complained that you were posting and nothing was showing and then "poof" - there was like four identical comments one right after the other. Which suggests that something just was taking some time (internet connection or connection from Blogger or something) before the comments actually posted.
I was commenting at the same time and was not running into any issues.
I repeatedly posted and it would appear as accepted text and then when I returned to post something else, it would be gone. That happened a number of time. On the other hand, when I posted one post three or so times, it stayed there, and that happened, both disappearing and remaing on other threads.
It happened again early this morning, but has not happened now for quite a while.

“By the way, the stock market — the last guy’s measure of everything — is about 20% higher than it was when my predecessor was there. It has hit record after record after record on my watch.” — President Biden, quoted by Politico.
Alky said that it was his most impassioned speech of Joe Biden's presidency was about events that took place before it began. I'm talking about the president's remarks on the first anniversary of the January 6, 2021, "riot" by FBI agents at the Capitol. The energy, force, and direction of Biden's delivery have been missing from practically every address he's made since his inauguration. The Biden who spoke from Statuary Hall on Thursday was not his usual self—listless, reactive, defensive, stuttering and confused. Biden was angry and confused and on the attack. He didn't even remember the last election day and again Trump!

Amy Walter:
“The following things can be true at the same time.
"At the same time, Republicans from swing states or districts who spend their time trying to re-litigate the 2020 election or defend those who attacked the Capitol are putting themselves in political peril.”

So the Democrats must not overemphasize it,

The Case of Ray Epps
In a hallmark of the times, what many Americans are willing to believe about Jan.
Andrew Kerr

And Garland didn't even mention him in his speech that he is still going after protesters
strange
almost looks like there was a secret FBI action going on that wasn't known to the whole FBI
kind of like Michigan
Hey roger Epps is highly visible stirring up the crowd and the next day was in the front line of people breaching the capital. He is even caught whispering to some as they performed the initial breach

Has Garland figured out who Epps was and even heard about him ?
Has Wray answered about FBI involvement yet ?

The Last Time We Had an Insurrectionist President
January 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard
Daniel Gullotta:
“Since he left office, former President Donald Trump has not receded into quiet retirement as most of his predecessors did. The activity and boisterousness with which he has continued to champion the Big Lie with which he incited the Jan. 6th insurrection bears comparison to only one other ex-president
—one who also became president under a cloud of uncertainty,
ignited calls for impeachment,
alienated many both in opposition
and within his own party,
failed to win re-election,
and fell into post-presidential ignominy:
the tenth president, John Tyler…”
“Tyler’s retirement years have not been the source of much scholarly interest. But given his role in the secession of Virginia and his support for the Confederacy, Tyler’s role as a seditious former president is worth another look.”

Cali keeps responding to things he claims nobody reads. Is that the onset sign of early dementia?
I’m responding to your fucking stupid claim it had to be the moderator, that’s all dumbass
Here's an idea for the "truth-seeking" liberals
Have Congress subpoena Ray Epps
Nobody denies he was there on Jan 6th
Put him under oath on prime time
have a Republican questioner and a Democrat questioner
end of conspiracy theory
Why not, would appear to be a basic need to find out what happened ?
Of course that would end the Banana Republic committee

Well Reverend...
Do you have the ability to delete anyone else's comments other than your own? When you do delete them, it will show up as deleted by author. If I delete them, it shows as deleted by Administrator.
But in your case... such as last night. You complained that you were posting and nothing was showing and then "poof" - there was like four identical comments one right after the other. Which suggests that something just was taking some time (internet connection or connection from Blogger or something) before the comments actually posted.
I was commenting at the same time and was not running into any issues.
Well cold we don’t use AOL

I repeatedly posted and it would appear as accepted text and then when I returned to post something else, it would be gone. That happened a number of time. On the other hand, when I posted one post three or so times, it stayed there, and that happened, both disappearing and remaing on other threads.

Quote of the Day
January 7, 2022 at 2:06 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 25 Comments
“By the way, the stock market — the last guy’s measure of everything — is about 20% higher than it was when my predecessor was there. It has hit record after record after record on my watch.”
— President Biden, quoted by Politico.
I put that also on the next thread up.
The Placeholder President
Alky said that it was his most impassioned speech of Joe Biden's presidency was about events that took place before it began. I'm talking about the president's remarks on the first anniversary of the January 6, 2021, "riot" by FBI agents at the Capitol. The energy, force, and direction of Biden's delivery have been missing from practically every address he's made since his inauguration. The Biden who spoke from Statuary Hall on Thursday was not his usual self—listless, reactive, defensive, stuttering and confused. Biden was angry and confused and on the attack. He didn't even remember the last election day and again Trump!
His attendant is probably giving him a shower.
