I know from the volume of email I've received on it that Ted Cruz's comments on January 6, 2021, calling it "a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol," have outraged many conservatives. Ted was once the darling of intellectually inclined conservatives, but I think the bloom is now off that rose.
Tucker Carlson used video of Cruz's comments as the keystone of a segment on how Republicans are being cowardly and granting Democrats their false premises on the riot at the Capitol being an insurrection or even a "terrorist attack." As Tucker put it, he was delivering talking points for Merrick Garland.

Is he feeling pressure over having protested voting results and fears being branded as an insurrectionist? Maybe he thinks Mark Elias's scheme to disqualify Republicans from running for office is a real threat to him. But he should know that appeasing the enemy does not work.

Rucker and Leonnig wrote in the book that Cheney later relayed the moment to Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"That son of a bitch … While these maniacs are going through the place, I'm standing in the aisle and he said 'We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. Let me help you.' After the insurrection, Cheney became a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and voted to impeach him for inciting the insurrection, moves that cost her her position in House leadership and ostracized her from her party. She's now the vice-chairwoman of the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection.
Jordan, a staunch Trump supporter and ally in Congress, was among a key group of House Republican lawmakers organizing the GOP effort to object to the counting of electoral votes on January 6. The Select Committee has asked Jordan to provide information about his communications with Trump during the riots.

So here, for what they are worth, are my thoughts on that event, one year later.
* My position on riots is simple and consistent. I am against them. There is no “My riot good, your riot bad.” Riots are bad, period.
* “January 6” is the most overhyped news story of our time. Kamala Harris’s suggestion that the Capitol riot was equivalent to Pearl Harbor is a historically ignorant joke. The fact is that the Capitol riot, while bad, was not one of the 50 most destructive riots of the last two years.
* The Democrats’ calling the riot an “insurrection” is another bad joke. This is the first insurrection (or “coup,” as the Democrats also say) where not a single person thought to bring a firearm. And I don’t think anyone would choose a “shaman” with horns and a fur hat to lead an actual insurrection.
* I have been called on to denounce the Capitol rioters of a year ago. I wouldn’t mind doing so–as stated above, I am opposed to rioting–but I ask Democrats to go first. Denounce the radical Democrats who illegally occupied the Capitol of Wisconsin for four months; denounce the Antifa rioters who have destroyed Portland; denounce the George Floyd rioters who burned down large sections of Minneapolis; denounce the Democrats who rioted in Washington when Donald Trump was inaugurated–a far worse riot than the one that occurred a year ago. Do that, and I will happily denounce the January 6 rioters. Until then, forget it.
* Law enforcement in many American cities has gotten ridiculously lax, and one sign of that is the fact that rioters are rarely punished. In fact, the same people tend to riot time after time, with impunity. The January 6 rioters are the one exception to that rule. They have had the book thrown at them, and I understand that many are still in jail with no charges against them having been heard, a year later. Is there some reason why this is not a scandal? At a minimum, can we have equal treatment of rioters?
* I have no idea who has been arrested and jailed, and what those particular individuals did. Figuring this out is made more difficult by the fact that the government has resisted releasing the many hours of video that it has in its possession. Why might that be? People who actually committed violent actions should be prosecuted; I have no idea how many such people there are. But videos show that many “rioters” were actually invited into the Capitol building by guards. The doors were open and the guards waved them in. They entered the building peacefully, staying between the rope lines and taking selfies. Did some of those people later commit criminal acts? Are some of them still languishing in jail? I have no idea. Does anyone know? I doubt it

One year ago, a violent mob, guided by unscrupulous politicians, stormed the Capitol and almost succeeded in preventing the democratic transfer of power. All four of our former presidents condemned their actions and affirmed the legitimacy of the 2020 election. There followed a brief hope that the insurrection would shock the nation into addressing the toxic polarization that threatens our democracy.
However, one year on, promoters of the lie that the election was stolen have taken over one political party and stoked distrust in our electoral systems. These forces exert power and influence through relentless disinformation, which continues to turn Americans against Americans. According to the Survey Center on American Life, 36 percent of Americans — almost 100 million adults across the political spectrum — agree that “the traditional American way of life is disappearing so fast that we may have to use force to save it.” The Washington Post recently reported that roughly 40 percent of Republicans believe that violent action against the government is sometimes justified.

Said Cruz: “As a result of my sloppy phrasing, it’s caused a lot of people to misunderstand what I meant. What I was referring to was the limited number of people who engaged in violent attacks against police officers.”

(iStock) One year after a mob of President Donald Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol, experts are sounding the alarm about a new threat not only to democracy, but to the planet: The spread of misinformation about climate change online. Just as conservative and far-right activists took to social media over the “big lie” — that Trump won the 2020 presidential election — so they are jumping online to share false or misleading posts about climate science and climate policy.
If 2021 was the year of misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic, 2022 could be the year of misinformation about the climate crisis, according to experts who spoke to The Climate 202. “What we have really seen is that reactions to covid generated new intersectional tribes online, including anti-vaccine influencers and far-right conspiracy theorists,” said Ciaran O'Connor, an analyst at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a nonprofit that seeks to combat extremism. “And now, climate change is becoming a new domain in which separate communities with their own distinct ideologies are merging and finding common cause.” Kathie Treen, a PhD student at the University of Exeter in England who published a recent paper on climate misinformation, agreed with that assessment. “It's completely predictable who will reject climate science: It's the same people who reject vaccines and who reject the reality of covid,” she said.
John Cook, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Climate Change Communication Research Hub at Monash University in Australia, pointed to research showing that misinformation about climate solutions is on the rise and that climate misinformation can cancel out accurate information. “I think there's a misconception that climate misinformation is not as dangerous as covid or election misinformation,” he said. “But it's an existential threat s Ahead of the COP26 climate conference in Scotland in November last year, Twitter rolled out a strategy to combat climate disinformation. Under the strategy, which the company calls “pre-bunking,” users are steered toward reliable climate information with more context. But Steve Milloy, a climate change skeptic who served on Trump's transition team at the Environmental Protection Agency, currently has a verified Twitter account with more than 37,000 followers, from which he has shared false or unproven information about global warming and its effects.
On Tuesday, for example, Milloy tweeted that the record-breaking wildfire in Colorado last week was caused by “natural” drought. Scientists have said that the fire was intensified by climate change, which caused unnaturally warm and dry conditions for this time of year.

And Politico points out that about 45 defendants “are charged with a crime on the terrorism list: depredation of federal property.”

“The number of Americans hospitalized with covid-19 reached more than 126,000 this week — the highest level in a year. But this wave of the pandemic looks different from what came before, with dueling variants on the move,” the Washington Post reports.
“This time, a majority of patients counted as covid cases in some hospitals were initially admitted for other reasons, their covid infections discovered incidentally.”
And yet, there is an entirely “Other America” comprised of perfectly normal, coherent, intelligent, astute people, who truly are not exercised — not a whit — over January 6 and never have been. They do not perceive that a coup was contemplated or attempted, or that democracy was endangered in the least when large throngs gathered in Washington, D.C., to protest at the Capitol building against a House of Representatives that was refusing to regard their concerns that the just-concluded October-November elections had not been conducted fairly. The question truly puzzles many among the Left: Why aren’t conservatives as concerned as we are over what happened on January 6?
The question offers an excellent example of how “Occam’s Razor” works, where the most complex of riddles and conundrums sometimes are best answered by the simplest of responses:
Most conservatives actually know someone personally who went to Washington that day to protest. Perhaps one did not go himself or herself, but his or her neighbor attended the protest. Or a like-minded relative. Or a coworker. Or a classmate. Or someone who attends the same church or synagogue. Conservatives literally know like-minded close associates who were there. We know them not from a biased Washington Post account or a social media defamation but because we worshipped alongside them the prior Saturday in shul or Sunday in church, and then we saw them again the following Sabbath when they returned. They told us they were going — and why. And then they came back and told us what happened. We know them. They did not go for insurrection to tear down the government, and they did not return with tales of conquest or defeat about the government that almost was torn down. They simply went to protest and to be heard, and they came back with selfies to show.
Two of my co-workers attended, but did not enter the Capitol that day. They witnessed multiple bus loads of obvious Antifa agitators arrive and upon noticing those assholes they stayed away from the Capitol.
I am surprised however that they haven't been harassed by the FBI as countless others have been who also never went near the fucking fray.
For the 80 million-plus sane Americans who said enough to the non-stop attacks on our country in November 2020, it was cathartic to watch President Joe Biden's full-throated and unambiguous rebuke of former President Trump's assault on our democracy that culminated in the violent insurrection of January 6. Even though these are remarkably abnormal times, Biden has stuck to the script of norms when it comes to avoiding criticizing your predecessor. But when the one-year anniversary of your predecessor's attempt to overthrow our democratic system comes up, all bets are off.

Anticipating a flurry of attacks from Fox News about the president being "divisive," Biden got ahead of them by putting such propaganda to rest.
"The way you have to heal is you have to recognize the extent of the wound. You can’t pretend. This is serious stuff, and a lot of people, understandably would rather go…’I would just as soon not face it.’ You got to face it. That is what great nations do. They face the truth, deal with it and move on," he said .
Former President Donald Trump, whose own January 6 speech was canceled at the last minute, responded in a predictably narcissistic and mendacious fashion as he continued spouting lies about 2020 and projecting his own failures onto the man who defeated him.
"Biden, who is destroying our Nation with insane policies of open Borders, corrupt Elections, disastrous energy policies, unconstitutional mandates, and devastating school closures, used my name today to try to further divide America," Trump said, even though Biden didn't specifically say his name in the speech. "The Democrats want to own this day of Jan. 6 so they can stoke fears and divide America. I say, let them have it because America sees through [their] lies and polarizations."
And since he forever lacks all self-awareness and the ability to accept blame or show humility on anything, Trump just had to go on his election rants ...still.
"It’s because they don’t have the answers or justifications for what happened. They got away with something, and it is leading to our Country’s destruction," Trump claimed. "They want all conversation concerning the Election 'Canceled.'"

Former President Donald Trump hit out at the Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday for suggesting days after the Capitol riot that Trump should stop claiming the 2020 US election was rigged.
The House select committee investigating the Capitol riot on Tuesday released the texts sent by Hannity — a prominent supporter of Trump — to Trump allies including Mark Meadows, then the White House chief of staff.
They were part of a letter to Hannity requesting that he cooperate with the committee's investigation.
The letter quoted a text Hannity sent to Meadows and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio four days after the Capitol riot that said Trump "can't mention the election again."
"Ever," it continued. "I did not have a good call with him today. And worse, I'm not sure what is left to do or say, and I don't like not knowing if it's truly understood. Ideas?"
Trump told CNN on Wednesday, through a representative: "I disagree with Sean on that statement and the facts are proving me right."
The Trump representative did not specify which facts Trump was referring to or how they were proving Trump right.
Since leaving office, Trump has continued to push baseless claims meant to delegitimize his loss to Joe Biden in the election. Numerous lawsuits and election audits have failed to produce any evidence to back up his claims of widespread voter fraud.
Hannity was frequently a cheerleader of Trump's agenda during his administration and even appeared onstage at one of his rallies.
But a book published last year by CNN's Brian Stelter indicated that their relationship soured after the Fox News host became "disgusted" by Trump's conspiracy theories about the election.
The former president remains fixated on overturning his election loss, Axios reported last month, citing sources who said it was difficult to dissuade him from repeatedly turning to the topic in personal conversations.

In dual surveys on Thursday showing Trump’s rise and successor President Joe Biden’s fall, 52% of voters told Rasmussen Reports that they have a favorable impression of the former president. Some 47% don’t.
Among Republicans, 85% have a favorable view, with 63% declaring a “very favorable” opinion. Even 23% of Democrats and 51% of independents agree.
When he left office on Jan. 20, 2021, Trump’s Rasmussen approval rating was 51%. And his GOP approval was 84%, so he has actually increased support. . . .
A second poll provided by Rasmussen, however, shows that many voters don’t think Biden will win.
In that survey, just 28% of voters predicted Biden’s reelection. “Voter confidence in President Joe Biden’s ability to do the job remains low and most don’t expect a second term for the oldest president in U.S. history,” said the polling outfit.
Without naming a candidate, 37% said that they expect Biden to be defeated by a GOP challenger, and 21% said he would resign before his term ends, presumably elevating Vice President Kamala Harris.
And just 55% of Democrats said Biden would win a second term, while 21% said he would be defeated.
Added Rasmussen in a telling statistic, “Just 37% of voters believe Biden is really doing the job of president, while a majority (53%) think others are making decisions for him behind the scenes and another 10% are not sure.”

In the moments after President Joe Biden concluded his speech commemorating the one-year anniversary of the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham leapt at the chance to offer his own response.
“What brazen politicization of January 6 by President Biden,” tweeted Graham. “I wonder if the Taliban who now rule Afghanistan with al-Qaeda elements present, contrary to President Biden’s beliefs, are allowing this speech to be carried?”
Words fail.
In case you forgot — as Graham appears to — what happened on January 6 was this:
1) A large number of people came to Washington for a “Stop the Steal” rally heavily promoted by then-President Donald Trump in support of his false contention that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
2) Addressing the crowd that day, Trump said this: “We fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
3) Some portion of that crowd marched to the US Capitol, stormed the building — vandalizing and terrorizing as they went.
The January riot then was clearly political from the very start — a mob fed lies and egged on by the then-President of the United States.
Know who knew that? January 6, 2021 Lindsey Graham.
“Trump and I, we’ve had a hell of a journey. I hate it to end this way,” Graham said on the Senate floor on the night of January 6, 2021. “Oh my God, I hate it. From my point of view, he’s been a consequential President, but today, first thing you’ll see. All I can say is count me out. Enough is enough.”

Graham was so exercised by Trump’s action on January 6 that he declared that their time together was over. On the following day, Graham acknowledged that Trump bore responsibility for the chaos at the Capitol.
But now, a year later, suddenly Graham is bashing Biden for making January 6 political?
What changed? Nothing. In fact, if anything, what we’ve learned over the last year about January 6 and the run-up to it, has made it even more clear how deeply involved the White House was in priming the pump for an attempted overthrow of democracy when the Electoral College votes were counted on January 6.

I know from the volume of email I've received on it that Ted Cruz's comments on January 6, 2021, calling it "a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol," have outraged many conservatives. Ted was once the darling of intellectually inclined conservatives, but I think the bloom is now off that rose.
Tucker Carlson used video of Cruz's comments as the keystone of a segment on how Republicans are being cowardly and granting Democrats their false premises on the riot at the Capitol being an insurrection or even a "terrorist attack." As Tucker put it, he was delivering talking points for Merrick Garland.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went on Tucker Carlon’s show to say it had been a “mistake” for him to call the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol a “terrorist attack” after he received pushback from supporters of former President Trump.
Said Cruz: “As a result of my sloppy phrasing, it’s caused a lot of people to misunderstand what I meant. What I was referring to was the limited number of people who engaged in violent attacks against police officers.”
Jonathan Chait: “Cruz thought the sweet spot for him was to position himself as a champion of Trump’s non-violent efforts to discard the election results while strongly condemning its violent aspects. Not for the first time, and probably not for the last, he misjudged the political market.”

Cheney confirmed the interaction during an interview with The New York Times’s Michael Barbaro for “The Daily” podcast that was published on Thursday, the one-year anniversary of the deadly attack. Asked by Barbaro if the confrontation, first reported in the book “I Alone Can Fix It,” was true, Cheney said “yeah,” before detailing her thoughts during the expletive-ridden interaction.

The New York Times' Michael Barbaro asked Cheney about the incident during an interview on "The Daily" podcast that aired Thursday, the first anniversary of the insurrection.
The interaction between Jordan and Cheney was reported in the book "I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump's Catastrophic Final Year" by Washington Post reporters Phillip Rucker and Carol Leonnig, published in 2021.
"Can you confirm this story? Because I think it's important," Barbaro asked.
"It's true," Cheney said.
"I was in the aisle, on the aisle, and he came over to me and basically said, 'We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. And I basically said...I had watched for months since the election what was going on, and the lies that had been told to people," she said. "I think it was both that I certainly didn't need his help, and secondly, I thought clearly that the lie they had been spreading and telling to people had absolutely contributed to what we were living through at that moment."
Rucker and Leonnig wrote in the book that Cheney later relayed the moment to Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
"That fucking guy Jim Jordan," Cheney told Milley, according to the book. "That son of a bitch … While these maniacs are going through the place, I'm standing in the aisle and he said 'We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. Let me help you.' I smacked his hand away and told him, 'Get away from me. You fucking did this.'"
After the insurrection, Cheney became a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and voted to impeach him for inciting the insurrection, moves that cost her her position in House leadership and ostracized her from her party. She's now the vice-chairwoman of the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection.
Jordan, a staunch Trump supporter and ally in Congress, was among a key group of House Republican lawmakers organizing the GOP effort to object to the counting of electoral votes on January 6. The Select Committee has asked Jordan to provide information about his communications with Trump during the riots.

* My position on riots is simple and consistent. I am against them. There is no “My riot good, your riot bad.” Riots are bad, period.
* “January 6” is the most overhyped news story of our time. Kamala Harris’s suggestion that the Capitol riot was equivalent to Pearl Harbor is a historically ignorant joke. The fact is that the Capitol riot, while bad, was not one of the 50 most destructive riots of the last two years.
* The Democrats’ calling the riot an “insurrection” is another bad joke. This is the first insurrection (or “coup,” as the Democrats also say) where not a single person thought to bring a firearm. And I don’t think anyone would choose a “shaman” with horns and a fur hat to lead an actual insurrection.
* I have been called on to denounce the Capitol rioters of a year ago. I wouldn’t mind doing so–as stated above, I am opposed to rioting–but I ask Democrats to go first. Denounce the radical Democrats who illegally occupied the Capitol of Wisconsin for four months; denounce the Antifa rioters who have destroyed Portland; denounce the George Floyd rioters who burned down large sections of Minneapolis; denounce the Democrats who rioted in Washington when Donald Trump was inaugurated–a far worse riot than the one that occurred a year ago. Do that, and I will happily denounce the January 6 rioters. Until then, forget it.
* Law enforcement in many American cities has gotten ridiculously lax, and one sign of that is the fact that rioters are rarely punished. In fact, the same people tend to riot time after time, with impunity. The January 6 rioters are the one exception to that rule. They have had the book thrown at them, and I understand that many are still in jail with no charges against them having been heard, a year later. Is there some reason why this is not a scandal? At a minimum, can we have equal treatment of rioters?
* I have no idea who has been arrested and jailed, and what those particular individuals did. Figuring this out is made more difficult by the fact that the government has resisted releasing the many hours of video that it has in its possession. Why might that be? People who actually committed violent actions should be prosecuted; I have no idea how many such people there are. But videos show that many “rioters” were actually invited into the Capitol building by guards. The doors were open and the guards waved them in. They entered the building peacefully, staying between the rope lines and taking selfies. Did some of those people later commit criminal acts? Are some of them still languishing in jail? I have no idea. Does anyone know? I doubt it

One year after a mob of President Donald Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol, experts are sounding the alarm about a new threat not only to democracy, but to the planet: The spread of misinformation about climate change online.
Just as conservative and far-right activists took to social media over the “big lie” — that Trump won the 2020 presidential election — so they are jumping online to share false or misleading posts about climate science and climate policy.
If 2021 was the year of misinformation about the coronavirus pandemic, 2022 could be the year of misinformation about the climate crisis, according to experts who spoke to The Climate 202.
“What we have really seen is that reactions to covid generated new intersectional tribes online, including anti-vaccine influencers and far-right conspiracy theorists,” said Ciaran O'Connor, an analyst at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, a nonprofit that seeks to combat extremism. “And now, climate change is becoming a new domain in which separate communities with their own distinct ideologies are merging and finding common cause.”
Kathie Treen, a PhD student at the University of Exeter in England who published a recent paper on climate misinformation, agreed with that assessment. “It's completely predictable who will reject climate science: It's the same people who reject vaccines and who reject the reality of covid,” she said.
John Cook, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Climate Change Communication Research Hub at Monash University in Australia, pointed to research showing that misinformation about climate solutions is on the rise and that climate misinformation can cancel out accurate information.

Ahead of the COP26 climate conference in Scotland in November last year, Twitter rolled out a strategy to combat climate disinformation. Under the strategy, which the company calls “pre-bunking,” users are steered toward reliable climate information with more context.
But Steve Milloy, a climate change skeptic who served on Trump's transition team at the Environmental Protection Agency, currently has a verified Twitter account with more than 37,000 followers, from which he has shared false or unproven information about global warming and its effects.
On Tuesday, for example, Milloy tweeted that the record-breaking wildfire in Colorado last week was caused by “natural” drought. Scientists have said that the fire was intensified by climate change, which caused unnaturally warm and dry conditions for this time of year.

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) told Politico that Democrats’ problem isn’t their message; “the problem is the image, which I think that the president took a big step toward helping to change today.”
He added: “There are people who just generally feel that we are not being tough enough. Although Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) apologized to Tucker Carlson for calling the Capitol rioters terrorists, Reuters notes that federal prosecutors have categorized more than 150 January 6 cases as being “domestic terrorism” in their internal case-tracking reports.
And Politico points out that about 45 defendants “are charged with a crime on the terrorism list: depredation of federal property.”

And yet, there is an entirely “Other America” comprised of perfectly normal, coherent, intelligent, astute people, who truly are not exercised — not a whit — over January 6 and never have been. They do not perceive that a coup was contemplated or attempted, or that democracy was endangered in the least when large throngs gathered in Washington, D.C., to protest at the Capitol building against a House of Representatives that was refusing to regard their concerns that the just-concluded October-November elections had not been conducted fairly. The question truly puzzles many among the Left: Why aren’t conservatives as concerned as we are over what happened on January 6?
The question offers an excellent example of how “Occam’s Razor” works, where the most complex of riddles and conundrums sometimes are best answered by the simplest of responses:
Most conservatives actually know someone personally who went to Washington that day to protest. Perhaps one did not go himself or herself, but his or her neighbor attended the protest. Or a like-minded relative. Or a coworker. Or a classmate. Or someone who attends the same church or synagogue. Conservatives literally know like-minded close associates who were there. We know them not from a biased Washington Post account or a social media defamation but because we worshipped alongside them the prior Saturday in shul or Sunday in church, and then we saw them again the following Sabbath when they returned. They told us they were going — and why. And then they came back and told us what happened. We know them. They did not go for insurrection to tear down the government, and they did not return with tales of conquest or defeat about the government that almost was torn down. They simply went to protest and to be heard, and they came back with selfies to show.

Two of my co-workers attended, but did not enter the Capitol that day. They witnessed multiple bus loads of obvious Antifa agitators arrive and upon noticing those assholes they stayed away from the Capitol.

Former President Donald Trump hit out at the Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday for suggesting days after the Capitol riot that Trump should stop claiming the 2020 US election was rigged.
The House select committee investigating the Capitol riot on Tuesday released the texts sent by Hannity — a prominent supporter of Trump — to Trump allies including Mark Meadows, then the White House chief of staff.
They were part of a letter to Hannity requesting that he cooperate with the committee's investigation.
The letter quoted a text Hannity sent to Meadows and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio four days after the Capitol riot that said Trump "can't mention the election again."
"Ever," it continued. "I did not have a good call with him today. And worse, I'm not sure what is left to do or say, and I don't like not knowing if it's truly understood. Ideas?"
Trump told CNN on Wednesday, through a representative: "I disagree with Sean on that statement and the facts are proving me right."
The Trump representative did not specify which facts Trump was referring to or how they were proving Trump right.
Since leaving office, Trump has continued to push baseless claims meant to delegitimize his loss to Joe Biden in the election. Numerous lawsuits and election audits have failed to produce any evidence to back up his claims of widespread voter fraud.
Hannity was frequently a cheerleader of Trump's agenda during his administration and even appeared onstage at one of his rallies.
But a book published last year by CNN's Brian Stelter indicated that their relationship soured after the Fox News host became "disgusted" by Trump's conspiracy theories about the election.
The former president remains fixated on overturning his election loss, Axios reported last month, citing sources who said it was difficult to dissuade him from repeatedly turning to the topic in personal conversations.

In dual surveys on Thursday showing Trump’s rise and successor President Joe Biden’s fall, 52% of voters told Rasmussen Reports that they have a favorable impression of the former president. Some 47% don’t.
Among Republicans, 85% have a favorable view, with 63% declaring a “very favorable” opinion. Even 23% of Democrats and 51% of independents agree.
When he left office on Jan. 20, 2021, Trump’s Rasmussen approval rating was 51%. And his GOP approval was 84%, so he has actually increased support. . . .
A second poll provided by Rasmussen, however, shows that many voters don’t think Biden will win.
In that survey, just 28% of voters predicted Biden’s reelection. “Voter confidence in President Joe Biden’s ability to do the job remains low and most don’t expect a second term for the oldest president in U.S. history,” said the polling outfit.
Without naming a candidate, 37% said that they expect Biden to be defeated by a GOP challenger, and 21% said he would resign before his term ends, presumably elevating Vice President Kamala Harris.
And just 55% of Democrats said Biden would win a second term, while 21% said he would be defeated.
Added Rasmussen in a telling statistic, “Just 37% of voters believe Biden is really doing the job of president, while a majority (53%) think others are making decisions for him behind the scenes and another 10% are not sure.”

In the moments after President Joe Biden concluded his speech commemorating the one-year anniversary of the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham leapt at the chance to offer his own response.
“What brazen politicization of January 6 by President Biden,” tweeted Graham. “I wonder if the Taliban who now rule Afghanistan with al-Qaeda elements present, contrary to President Biden’s beliefs, are allowing this speech to be carried?”
Words fail.
In case you forgot — as Graham appears to — what happened on January 6 was this:
1) A large number of people came to Washington for a “Stop the Steal” rally heavily promoted by then-President Donald Trump in support of his false contention that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
2) Addressing the crowd that day, Trump said this: “We fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
3) Some portion of that crowd marched to the US Capitol, stormed the building — vandalizing and terrorizing as they went.
The January riot then was clearly political from the very start — a mob fed lies and egged on by the then-President of the United States.
Know who knew that? January 6, 2021 Lindsey Graham.
“Trump and I, we’ve had a hell of a journey. I hate it to end this way,” Graham said on the Senate floor on the night of January 6, 2021. “Oh my God, I hate it. From my point of view, he’s been a consequential President, but today, first thing you’ll see. All I can say is count me out. Enough is enough.”
Know who else? January 7, 2021 Lindsey Graham.
“As to yesterday, it breaks my heart, that my friend, a President of a consequence, were to allow yesterday to happen,” Graham said at a press conference. “And it will be a major part of his presidency. It was a self-inflicted wound. It was going too far.”
Graham was so exercised by Trump’s action on January 6 that he declared that their time together was over. On the following day, Graham acknowledged that Trump bore responsibility for the chaos at the Capitol.
But now, a year later, suddenly Graham is bashing Biden for making January 6 political?
What changed? Nothing. In fact, if anything, what we’ve learned over the last year about January 6 and the run-up to it, has made it even more clear how deeply involved the White House was in priming the pump for an attempted overthrow of democracy when the Electoral College votes were counted on January 6.
