Reagan selected Sandra Day O’Connor for a vacancy in 1981. She served on the Supreme Court until 2006.

“While I’ve been studying candidates’ backgrounds and writings, I’ve made no decisions except one: The person I will nominate will be someone with extraordinary qualifications, character, experience, and integrity, and that person will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court,” Biden said Thursday at an event marking Breyer’s retirement. “It’s long overdue, in my view.”

Trump Suggests He’ll Pardon Rioters If He Wins In 2024
January 29, 2022 at 11:22 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 341 Comments

Former President Donald Trump said during a rally in Texas that he would consider pardoning those charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, The Hill reports.

Said Trump:
“If I run, and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly.”
________

If he is treated fairly, he won't be pardoning anyone. He'll be in jail.

Former President Donald Trump is dangling the prospect of pardons for supporters who participated in the deadly January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol if he returns to the White House.

"If I run and if I win, we will treat those people from January 6th fairly," Trump said Saturday night during a rally in Conroe, Texas. "And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons because they are being treated so unfairly."

The offer represents an attempt by Trump to further minimize the most significant attack on the seat of government since the War of 1812. Participants smashed through windows, assaulted police officers and sent lawmakers and congressional staff fleeing for their lives while trying to halt the peaceful transition of power and the certification of President Biden's victory.

More than 700 people have been arrested and charged with federal crimes in connection with the riot, marking the largest investigation in the Justice Department's history. The tally includes more than 150 people charged with assaulting police officers, more than 50 charged with conspiracy, and charges of seditious conspiracy against the founder and leader of the far-right Oath Keepers militia group, and 10 other members or associates.

Trump rally in Conroe

More than 100 police officers were injured, some critically, after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, following a "Stop the Steal" rally by Trump near the White House in which he falsely claimed Mr. Biden had won election through massive voter fraud.

If he is treated fairly, he won't be pardoning anyone. He'll be in jail.

Lock him up!

Fortunately for you there's no crime of "intent received or give a bribe." (You actually have to give or take a bribe to commit a crime.

Otherwise, Joe Biden would be in for a long jail time).

As it is it's Joe Biden who may eventually be indicted as a result of his involvement in his son's Hunter business dealings.

Did former United States President Barack Obama predict the seriousness of a coronavirus-like pandemic in 2014?

YES.

Obama warned in 2014, that we must be ready to deal with an epidemic.

Did former United States President Barack Obama predict the seriousness of a potential outbreak?

YES.

Turns out, the Obama administration had been pushing for a universal healthcare infrastructure to globally deal with a potentially “air borne” pandemic, similar to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

“We have to put in place an infrastructure, not just at home but also globally. That allows us to see it quickly, isolate it quickly, respond to it quickly”, he said in a briefing.

"We must be ready"
Obama warned in 2014, that we must be ready to deal with an epidemic.

“So that if and when a new strain of flu, like the Spanish flu, crops up, five years or a decade from now - we’ve made the investment - and we’re further along to be able to catch it”, the former president had asserted.

Obama called for more pandemic preparedness following the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, which was then seen as a global threat.

“The funding we’re asking for is needed to keep strengthening our capacity here at home so we can respond to any future Ebola cases.. It’s needed to help us partner with other countries to prevent and deal with future outbreaks and threats before they become epidemics”, Obama had said.

He added how the world had got lucky in terms of the Swine Flu, which had subsided on its own.

“We were lucky with H1N1 that it did not prove to be more deadly. We can’t say we’re lucky with Ebola because obviously it’s having a devastating effect tin West africa, but it is not airborne in its transmission”, he had said.

However, coronavirus is airborne, and is way more deadly than any epidemic seen in recent history.

Airborne mayhem
“There may and likely will come a time in which we have both an airborne disease that is deadly“, he predicted.
Looks like his prophecy turned out to be true.

“It’s not just insurance, it is knowing that down the road, we’re gonna continue to have problems like this - particularly in a globalised world.”

He had earlier written in an oped in New York Times back in 2005 -
“We recommend that this administration work with Congress, public health officials, the pharmaceutical industry, foreign governments, and international organisations to create a permanent framework for curtailing the spread of future infectious diseases.

“I cannot think of a better example of an area where we should all agree than passing this emergency funding to fight Ebola and to set up some of the public health infrastructure in the world to deal with potential outbreaks in the future.”

Trump's denial
The incumbent US president Donald Trump had received reports about the seriousness of COVID-19 as early as March but continued to discount those well into March.

At a briefing he said that the virus would go away by April because of the heat.

Here's some more mere propaganda, I guess:

from The Guardian:
The Trump administration decided to end a $200m early warning program designed to alert it to potential pandemics just three months before it is believed Covid-19 began infecting people in China.

When the World Health Organization declared coronavirus a public health emergency of international concern, the US was underprepared for it due to Trump cuts, say health experts.

The project, called Predict, had been run by the US Agency for International Development since 2009. It had identified more than 160 different coronaviruses that had the potential to develop into pandemics, including a virus that is considered the closest known relative to Covid-19.

A decision to wind down the program was made, however, in September, just three months before the first reports of people becoming infected with Covid-19 in Wuhan, China. The end of the program saw the departure of dozens of scientists and analysts working to identify potential pandemics in countries around the world, including China.

“It was a genius, visionary program that USAid took a big risk to fund and it’s a crying shame it was canceled,” said Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, a non-profit specialist in tackling wildlife-borne disease that was one of the major partners in the program.

Daszak said he did not know why the initiative was scrapped or if the White House played any direct role in its ending. EcoHealth Alliance has been given a temporary extension to work on the program but the role will finally come to a close in September.

The news about Predict’s demise was first reported in the Los Angeles Times.

Predict’s work focused on the dangers of viruses spreading from wildlife to humans and causing possible pandemics like the Covid-19 outbreak that has resulted in much of the world grinding to a halt. It is suspected that Covid-19 made the leap to humans from a bat sold at a Wuhan market.

Daszak said there are an estimated 1.7m mystery viruses in wildlife that may have the potential to transfer to humans and cause another pandemic, making the early detection of these diseases imperative for public health and economic reasons.

“We should’ve been more unsettled about this before all this happened,” he said. “We got a lot of flak for spending money in other countries but just think how much even a few billion would be worth to stop this sort of pandemic. It’s sad to see the project finish because it’s the way of the future, in 50 years they will be bog-standard.

“I’m not confident we will learn the lessons from this, though. We saw the same thing happen after Ebola and then Zika. We are always behind with pandemics, we are flying blind. We have hit the snooze button several times and now here’s the big one.”
________

Even Mitch McConnell admitted it was "short sighted" to defund the project.

end of propaganda

Trump confirms what any sane person has already assumed.

Former President Donald Trump said during a rally in Texas on Saturday that he would consider pardoning those charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, saying he would treat them “fairly” if he were reelected.

At Saturday’s rally in Conroe, Tex., Trump said, “If I run, and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly.”

“And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons,” he continued. “Because they are being treated so unfairly.”

It’s possible that, should he run and win in 2024, Trump’s advisors will convince him it’s not in his best interests to follow through. But the suggestion itself is dangerous – a green light to his supporters to interfere with the election on his behalf.

We came incredibly close to an actual coup on January 6th.

It would’ve happened had, for example, Mike Pence buckled to White House pressure, black bloc protestors had taken the bait and attacked the insurrectionists, or if right-wing extremists had reached any of their targets.

Would it have ultimately succeeded? Perhaps. Perhaps not. But either way it would’ve produced catastrophic results.

Yet here we are.

If he wins, the coup will have succeeded.

Record 14.5 million people sign up for ObamaCare, Biden says

President Biden announced Thursday that a record 14.5 million people have signed up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act for 2022.

“Health care should be a right, not a privilege, for all Americans,” Biden said in a statement. “And one year into my Administration, we are making that right a reality for a record number of people — bringing down costs and increasing access for families across the country.”

Biden attributed the numbers to increased financial assistance under the American Rescue Plan that Democrats in Congress passed last year. That law increased the subsidies that help people afford their premiums and also lifted the income cap to allow more people to be eligible for assistance.

“This did not happen by accident,” Biden said. “The American Rescue Plan did more to lower costs and expand access to health care than any action since the passage of the Affordable Care Act.”

The Biden administration also reversed cuts to outreach and advertising spending made under the Trump administration....

Many Democrats view finding a way to continue the enhanced subsidies as key to cementing the legacy of the Affordable Care Act.

The law as a whole, at the center of fierce political battles for years, has somewhat faded into the background, with Democrats in control of Washington and Republicans having failed in their efforts to repeal it in 2017.

Biden made a pitch for Congress to pass Build Back Better in his statement on Thursday.

“As long as any American lies awake at night, wondering how they’re going to pay their medical bills, my Administration will keep fighting to lower costs and expand health coverage even more — including through my Build Back Better agenda,” he said.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

He may have put himself in jeopardy..

The distinguishing characteristic of the various Trump scandals/outrages is that they all take place in broad daylight, playing out in real time, without mystery or subtlety.

And so last night, the former president dangled pardons for the January 6 insurrectionists, and called for massive street protests if he ever faces criminal charges.

CONROE, Texas — Donald J. Trump said on Saturday that if elected to a new term as president, he would consider pardoning those prosecuted for attacking the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 of last year.

He also called on his supporters to mount large protests in Atlanta and New York if prosecutors in those cities, who are investigating him and his businesses, take action against him.

There was nothing veiled about his suggestion that he would hand out get-out-jail-free cards to the rioters — and, by implication, to anyone held legally accountable for his attempted coup.

“If I run and I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly,” he said, addressing a crowd at a fairground in Conroe, Texas, outside Houston, that appeared to number in the tens of thousands. “We will treat them fairly,” he repeated. “And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons, because they are being treated so unfairly.”

And he addressed the possibility that he might face criminal charges:

“If these radical, vicious, racist prosecutors do anything wrong or illegal, I hope we are going to have in this country the biggest protests we have ever had in Washington, D.C., in New York, in Atlanta and elsewhere, because our country and our elections are corrupt,” he said to a rally audience in Conroe, Texas, reading from teleprompters set up on either side of his lectern…

“They’re trying to put me in jail,” he said. “These prosecutors are vicious, horrible people. They’re racists and they’re very sick. They’re mentally sick. They’re going after me without any protection of my rights by the Supreme Court or most other courts.”

This stew of sedition and obstruction does not require extended commentary. Trump is not only fully embracing the January 6 Insurrection/Coup (and perhaps the next one), he is also clearly hoping to discourage any sort of cooperation with ongoing investigations. He’s obstructed justice before, and its worked for him.

By raising the possibility of mass unrest, he is also — quite unsubtly — trying to intimidate the prosecutors and grand juries who are investigating him.

Two other points:

(1) As S.V. Date noted, Trump’s comments were not off-the-cuff or throw-away lines. He read “this entire rant directly off the teleprompter. He fully intended to threaten unrest if he is criminally charged. And others with him to deliver that message.”

For the willfully stupid.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

By this standard it would impossible for anyone to convicted. So Trump is pretty safe from Democrat manipulations.

Trump is not going to go to jail for treason or any other crime.

'Is it treason?' Maria Bartiromo pushes for Joe Biden to be punished for crime carrying death penalty

Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday suggested that President Joe Biden had committed "treason" because of alleged business dealings with Chinese entities.

Bartiromo made the remarks during interviews with conservative author Peter Schweizer and former National Security Adviser John Ratcliffe.

"Peter, we're talking about the conflicts Joe Biden has and his family with China," Bartiromo said during her Sunday Fox News program. "You have reported that the Biden family accepted $31 million. Do you believe this is treason given the fact that the CCP is an adversary of America?"

Schweizer agreed that it is "unfathomable" that Biden's relationship with China has been tolerated.

"China has the same goals as the Soviet Union," he said. "They want to supplant us so the people in Washington have to get serious about this. This is not a partisan issue. It's a national security issue."

Unsatisfied with Schweizer's answer, Bartiromo posed the question to Ratcliffe.

"We just had Peter Schweizer on talking about the $31 million that Joe Biden accepted -- Hunter Biden accepted," she said. "Is this treason? You were a prosecutor, a lawyer, a resume that's rich. Tell us. Is it treason?"

"The way to find out is to have hearings in Congress," Ratcliffe remarked. "I've talked to Kevin McCarthy about the fact that, look, whoever is in charge of Congress ought to be having these hearings into Covid origins and the connections between China and our officials here."

Next year he will die by execution

President Biden announced Thursday that a record 14.5 million people have signed up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act for 2022.

If only about 4% of the population actually uses the ACA for their insurance, why is it that the other 96% of the population can have an "opinion" about whether it is good or bad?

My personal opinion comes from how ACA specifically affected my wife's insurance, and not for the better. She is paying almost double under ACA for less coverage. I also know a couple of other people who had similar experiences. They had good private insurance and then it effectively went away because it didn't readily conform to one of the "Levels" of ACA. When they had to choose another insurance through ACA it was less insurance for more money. Have yet to talk to anyone who said it saved them money to switch from what they had to the "affordable" Government stuff.

The big lie about Wisconsin is getting exposed to the public soon.

A former chairman of Wisconsin state's Republican Party signaled that he will be complying with a subpoena he received from the House select committee investigating the events around the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

Andrew Hitt was among a group of Republicans who submitted documents to the National Archives, Wisconsin Secretary of State Doug La Follette, a federal judge and the U.S. Senate, saying that former President Trump had won the 2020 election despite the fact that only an hour prior to that the state Supreme Court had said the victor was President Biden, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Hitt on Friday was issued a subpoena, along with 13 others from other states such as Arizona and Georgia, seeking his cooperation with the Jan. 6 committee.

"Your delegation of purported electors for former President Trump and former Vice President Pence then sent an alleged 'Certificate of the Votes' of the purported electors to Congress for consideration by former Vice President Pence, in his role as President of the Senate, during the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021," committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a letter to Hitt.

"The existence of these purported alternate-elector votes was used as a justification to delay or block the certification of the election during the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021," it added.

Hitt, who is now a partner at Michael Best Strategies LLC, said that he will be complying with the Jan. 6 committee's subpoena, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

"I absolutely will cooperate with the committee's request to provide information," Hitt said. "As I said in the past, the Wisconsin Electors were simply following the guidance of Wisconsin legal counsel to preserve the ongoing Wisconsin legal strategy. There was no intent beyond that and I'm happy to participate in this process to clarify any confusion that may exist."

And another crack in the wall around Trump..

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said on Sunday that he disagreed with former President Trump's idea of potentially pardoning people charged in connection with storming the Capitol on Jan. 6 of last year.

"Of course not, oh, my goodness, no," Sununu said on CNN's "State of the Union" when asked if the rioters who were part of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol should be pardoned.

"Look, the folks that were part of the riots and, frankly, the assault on the U.S. Capitol have to be held accountable," the governor added. "There's a rule of law. I don't care whether you were part of the burning cities in Antifa in 2020, you were storming the Capitol in 2021. Everybody needs to be held fairly accountable across. That's part of leadership.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) expressed disagreement with Donald Trump after the former president said he might pardon Jan. 6 defendants if he wins a second term in 2024.

During a Sunday interview on CBS, host Margaret Brennan asked Graham about the remarks Trump made the night before at a Texas rally.

"Pardons? Do you agree?" Brennan wondered.

"No," Graham stated. "I don't want to send any signal that it was OK to defile the Capitol. There are other groups with causes that may want to go down the violent path if these people get pardoned."

"Isn't that a dangerous thing to say?" Brennan pressed.

"Yeah," Graham agreed. "I think it's inappropriate. I don't want to reinforce the defiling of the Capitol was OK. I don't want to do anything that would make this more likely in the future."

Before finishing, the South Carolina Republican compared Trump's remarks to Vice President Kamala Harris promoting bail for people who participated in protests and riots over the George Floyd killing in 2020.

"I didn't like that either," he said. "So I don't want to do anything from raising bail to pardoning people who take the law into their own hands because it will make violence more likely. GRAHAM ALSO BACKS BIDEN'S DECISION TO NOMINATE A BLACK WOMAN FOR SUPREME COURT JUSTICE
January 30, 2022 at 12:15 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 68 Comments

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) broke with several of his Republican colleagues by seemingly expressing support for President Joe Biden’s pledge to nominate the first-ever Black woman to the Supreme Court, Politico reports.

Said Graham: “Put me in the camp of making sure the court and other institutions look like America. You know, we make a real effort as Republicans to recruit women and people of color to make the party look more like America.”

Graham also appeared to endorse Michelle Childs, a U.S. District Court judge in his home state of South Carolina, for the seat held by the retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.

You people keep saying that the establishment in DC is out to get rid of Trump.

The vast wealthiest Americans oppose him, except for his tax cuts.

That is because Trump if for the little guy and Democrats are the Party of big money. If it was the other way around, they would support Trump and not Democrats.

Americans understand that it is Biden and Democrats who are the people who keep race in everything.

Americans are getting wise to the small minority woke lily white liberals and their friendly high profile black race baiters who think they can bully people on race.

That pendulum is ready to swing back VERY HARD against the lily white woke liberals and the race baiters.

These people don't think that people can think for the, if they read things that bother them, are incapable of thinking!

But when you look at the stacks of your library and you grumble, because not enough people who shared your chosen characteristic wrote the books, you are like a German so foolish as to refuse to enter the Sistine Chapel because the painters were all Italian. The paintings remain great. It is you who become small. Not humble; humility is compatible with greatness; but petty—petty in your touchiness and ingratitude and pride.

The licensers in Milton’s time feared the bad examples that the untrained mind might derive from bad books. But they were veritable champions of a free press by comparison with what we have now. For what is being destroyed in the student inquisitors, and in countless others like them from coast to coast who pick up the evil habit from their teachers, is the very capacity to read any book at all that might blow the gentlest breeze upon their little houses of sticks. They cannot receive the books as gifts from authors who are not like them in the ways they prefer. They do not look for truth and beauty. They look for a pacifier or an anodyne.

If they persist in this evil habit, they will become the unthinking tools of unreason itself, even as they preen themselves in their tiny gardens and say, “We have become as gods.”

But we don't censor Mein Kamph or the books about Mousoulni or other fascist people...

Who is "bullying" people on race by trying to suppress the black and other minority vote? The Dems?

No, the Repugs.

The Democrats are not going to argue about this issue.

Americans are getting wise to the small minority woke angry white Trumpist and their friendly high profile white race baiters like you and Trump who think they can bully people on race.

Instead of the infrastructure the first African American woman on the supreme Court. Focus on first responders to help in mental police officers.

And dozens of other things.

If only about 4% of the population actually uses the ACA for their insurance

Remember way back in 2010 when I claimed there were only about 4-5% of the population were uninsurable, but the vast majority were covered under high risk pools in over 30 states.

There’s your proof.

We got to fuck up healthcare for the other 95%
