This is now like a broken record...

Biden disapproval hits new high as voters give him bad grades on economy, new CNBC/Change poll says

  • President Joe Biden’s overall disapproval rating reached a new high in December as more voters signaled their unhappiness with his handling of the economy and the Covid pandemic.
  • Results from a CNBC/Change Research poll show 60% of respondents said they disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy as he nears the conclusion of his first year in office.
  • A 55% majority of survey respondents also signaled disapproval of his leadership during the pandemic, an area in which he previously excelled.
The worst part about this for liberals has to be that these generally liberal biased pollsters showing unbelievably bad numbers for Biden. You cannot go into these crosstabs and see an oversampling of Republicans or an undersampling of Democrats as you could with most of the polls that showed Trump with low approvals. In fact, most of these polls are still more than generous with the amount of Democrats included in these samples. One has to wonder how bad they would be if our media and pollsters wanted to oversample the GOP voters and undersample Democrats.

Biden’s Speech Was a Turning Point For His Presidency

January 6, 2022 at 3:35 pm EST t

Walter Shapiro:
“Just a handful of sentences into his speech commemorating the insurrection a year ago on January 6, President Joe Biden unveiled the biggest political decision of his presidency.

“Instead of tiptoeing around the specter of Donald Trump, Biden went after the former president directly with an intensity unparalleled in modern political memory.”

Trump Must Have His Day In Court
January 6, 2022 at 3:30 pm EST

George Conway:
“Garland must not fear that prosecuting Trump would be viewed as a partisan act. He need only look to the words of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who, after voting against an impeachment conviction on the (meritless) ground that Trump had left office, all but called for Trump’s prosecution.”

Said McConnell:
“We have a criminal justice system in this country. President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office.”

He added:
"He didn’t get away with anything yet. Yet.”

NICE WORDS, MITCH! THANKS!

Civil Disorder More Likely Than Civil War
January 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm EST

Janan Ganesh:
“A year on from the US Capitol siege, there is talk, even among unexcitable scholars, of a second civil war. That remains an epic stretch. Red and Blue America do not map on to contiguous geographic blocs, as the Confederacy and the Union did. The central state is unrecognizably stronger than it was in 1861. There is (for now) no single precipitating issue to equal South Carolina’s declaration of secession.

“In the medical parlance of today, what is more plausible than war is disorder of a chronic and endemic nature. What is plausible is an “acceptable” level of violence.”

Judges Have Reduced Proposed Sentences for Rioters
January 6, 2022 at 2:59 pm EST s

Washington Post:
“Federal judges in D.C. have gone below the government recommendation in 49 out of 74 sentencings held for Capitol riot defendants one year after the attack, about two-thirds of the cases. In eight cases where prosecutors asked for jail time, the judges instead opted for probation. Of the 74 people sentenced so far, 35 have been given jail or prison time, 14 home detention and 25 probation alone.”

Ex-Staffers Plot to Try to TAKE DOWN Trump

January 6, 2022 at 2:28 pm EST

“A group of former Trump administration officials are banding together in an effort to block their former boss from entering office again,”
Politico reports.

“The meeting of the group, announced by former White House press secretary and chief of staff to the first lady Stephanie Grisham,
is scheduled for next week where they will discuss how to ‘try and stop’ former President Donald Trump and the ‘kind of violence and rhetoric that has been talked about and continues to divide our country.’

"In an interview with CNN on the morning of Jan. 6, Grisham said about 15 former Trump administration officials — some she said, who ranked higher than her — have held informal discussions and plan to meet in person.”

TRUMP LOVED LOYALTY.
But you can't get it if you're an A-hole.

J6 Hysteria Is How Media And Other Democrats Are Avoiding Accountability For Their Rigging Of The 2020 Election

The 2020 presidential election was unlike any in American history.

Hundreds of laws and processes were changed in the months leading up to the election, sometimes legally and sometimes not, creating chaos, confusion, and uncertainty. Tech oligarch Mark Zuckerberg, one of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful men, spent $419 million — nearly as much as the federal government itself — to interfere in the government’s management of the election in key states.

Powerful tech oligarchs and corrupt propaganda press conspired to keep indisputably important news stories, such as allegations of corruption regarding the Biden family business, hidden from voters in the weeks prior to voting. Information operations were routinely manufactured about President Trump in the closing months of the campaign, including the false claim that Russians paid bounties for dead American soldiers and Trump didn’t care, and that Trump had called dead American soldiers losers. Both were disputed by dozens of on-the-record sources.

Effective conservative voices were censored by the social media arms of the Democrat Party. And all this was done after the establishment spent years running an unprecedented “Resistance” that falsely claimed Trump was a traitor who had colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

It’s not surprising that polls show most Republicans are deeply concerned about the integrity of such an election. If anything, it’s surprising that all of them aren’t screaming from the rooftops about it. But it is interesting and telling how little the media and other Democrats are willing to talk about efforts to rig the election.

With the exception of a single Time Magazine article admitting there was a “conspiracy” by a “a well-funded cabal of powerful people” who worked to “change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information,” to create a “revolution in how people vote,” corporate media have largely kept silent about or downplayed how the establishment secured its victory for their man Joe Biden.

Time’s article didn’t come out until February 4, 2021, but in the months prior to its publication, Republicans grew increasingly concerned that the rigging it described had, in fact, happened.

Their desire for free and fair elections they could trust, elections that “well-funded cabals of powerful people” weren’t able to rig, resulted in mass protests following the November election. The fact that the election was exceedingly close didn’t help matters.

Media and other left-wing pollsters had put out preposterous suppression polls to help Biden get over the finish line. For example, the Washington Post’s final poll claimed Biden would win the swing state of Wisconsin by 17 points, indicating a nationwide blowout of historic proportions. (He won it by seven-tenths of a percent.) The actual outcome took weeks to calculate and came down to just 43,000 votes across three states, even closer than Trump’s close victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The media and other Democrats have used the January 6 riot at the Capitol as a way to ignore legitimate concerns about what they did to the election system, and as a way to continue the assault on election security.

As part of their political operation, they have used a propaganda technique of redefining efforts to secure the integrity of elections as attacks on democracy.

TRUMP DID NOT WANT TO TELL RIOTERS TO 'Stay Peaceful’
January 6, 2022 at 3:44 pm EST

“A former Trump White House official said then-President Donald Trump initially refused to tweet the words “stay peaceful” as the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, was escalating,”
CNN reports.

“The former official, who was working in the West Wing and was close to White House messaging during the insurrection, said Trump did not want to include the words ‘stay peaceful’ and was ‘very reluctant to put out anything when it was unfolding.’”

Instead, the former official said Trump was “letting it play out.”

ABOUT MOLLIE HEMINGWAY

from Wiki:
In June 2020, she accused the media of fabricating reports that law enforcement used tear gas and excessive force against peaceful protestors to clear a path for Trump to stage a photo op in front of St. John's Church. Law enforcement later acknowledged that it did in fact shoot pepper-based irritants into the crowd of peaceful protestors.

Following the 2021 United States Capitol attack, Hemingway disputed whether the attack was armed, claiming a "lack of actual arms that were used" despite evidence that offenders carried handguns as well as other weapons including knives, bombs, and bear spray.

She has also disputed its status as an insurrection, tweeting
“People who call the few-hour riot at the Capitol by unarmed protesters an ‘insurrection’ are bad people who are harming the country.”

That was bear spray, not hair spray, Mollie.

Hemingway maintains that the 2020 election was rigged.

Rioters storm into the U.S. Capitol in Washington, Jan. 6, 2021.

PHOTO: SHANNON STAPLETON/REUTERS

We’re in an acrimonious period of partisan tribalism and have been for some time. Both parties are guilty of overwrought denunciations of their political opponents. My criticisms are often aimed at Democrats; on the anniversary of Jan. 6, I’m addressing squarely those Republicans who for a year have excused the actions of the rioters who stormed the Capitol, disrupted Congress as it received the Electoral College’s results, and violently attempted to overturn the election.

These apologists say those who stormed the Capitol were innocent patriots, tourists visiting the seat of the national government to petition their elected representatives peacefully. We’re told that these harmless, ordinary Americans are being persecuted as political prisoners.

Let’s stipulate that while the thousands who went to the Capitol a year ago were wrong to insist the election was stolen, most weren’t violent as they exercised their First Amendment rights to gather peacefully on the Mall—just as I had seen liberals gather to protest both inaugurations of President George W. Bush.

But last year there were several thousand protesters willing to use force to disrupt Congress in its constitutional duty to receive and certify the electoral vote. Some went to Washington with that purpose in mind. Others were swept up in the moment’s savagery, led astray by stronger wills with dangerous motives.

The leaders of this group were intent on committing violence, some having planned to do so for weeks. Many wore tactical gear. Some came armed with chemical agents, flagpoles, batons and sticks. They broke through barricades and assaulted approximately 140 police officers, in some cases with an officer’s own shield or gear. They smashed doors and windows, illegally entered the Capitol, ransacked offices and searched for leaders of Congress, and made dire threats about what would happen if they found them.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

But the violent conflict spurred by the 2020 election flowed from years of conflict over every aspect of Trump’s rise to the presidency and his performance in it. In the nearly seven years since his presidential ambitions took flight in 2015, there has been a daily deluge of outrages and provocations, and a corresponding flood of explanations of what’s really going on here — why his partisans are so aggrieved, why they are so drawn to the most garish personality ever to occupy the presidency.

Efforts to explain Trump often rely on complex sociological or economic theories. He was a backlash to globalization and selfish elites. He exploited resentment of trade and the decline in real wages. He was the representative of people who disliked the cultural ascension of women and African-Americans and the diminution of working class white males. And so on.

All semi-plausible. All inadequate in the face of Trump’s zigs on one day and zags the next, and the obvious truth that most of his partisans are attracted to him less for any programmatic reason than for the sheer bombast of his performance — and especially that he offends his opposition.

The more the vitriol has risen the less consensus there is about the origins of anger. To the contrary, there is something closer to an establishment consensus that the search for root cause is folly — the Trump phenomenon defies explanation, and the threat posed by his demagoguery makes speculation about its origins an irrelevant distraction.

Violence at the Capitol is hardly unprecedented. At least the Puerto Rican terrorists who shot five representatives from the House gallery in 1954 had a clear agenda: “Viva Puerto Rico libre!” (Long live free Puerto Rico) shouted one of them. Sen. Charles Sumner of Massachusetts in 1856 was the superior of Donald Trump when it comes to vivid insult. Of South Carolina Sen. Andrew Butler, he said, he “touches nothing which he does not disfigure with error, sometimes of principle, sometimes of fact. He cannot open his mouth, but out there flies a blunder.” Butler’s nephew, Rep. Preston Brooks, was clear on why he caned Sumner on the Senate floor, and Sumner was, too. It was because he accused Butler of being in love with a mistress, “I mean the harlot, slavery.” They were arguing over the transcendent issue of their time.

The transcendent issue of this time — no matter the specific raw material of any given news cycle — is the belief that one half of the country suspects the other half is contemptuous of them, and responds with contempt in turn. “Seinfeld” was not really, as was often said, “a show about nothing.” It demonstrated instead that with the right characters and frame of mind, you can make a show about anything that might happen in daily life. Donald Trump has shown that you can use the same approach to create a national crack-up. The violent rabble that crashed the Capitol a year ago showed that crack-ups are fertile ground for crackpots.

Are you starting 2022 in an optimistic mood? You might take solace in the argument that it’s hard to have a real civil war without a real cause — a great question that will be resolved by the outcome. Trump’s moment in national life will die out because he always has lots to say but no longer has anything meaningful to say.

Or perhaps recent years have steered you toward escalating pessimism. Perhaps the squalor of modern politics flows from ancient truths of human nature. People are easily manipulated with appeals to prejudice and paranoia, never more so than when technology has led to massive growth in the industry of commercialized contempt. A country that can have a civil war with no one really knowing what the conflict is about is one in which the muscles of governance are pitifully atrophied.

Here is what I find interesting Reverend...

You will discount it because you don't like the pollster nor the results, but here it is:

A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports finds that 52% of Likely U.S. voters have a favorable impression of Trump, including 33% who have a Very Favorable view of him. Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters view Trump unfavorably, including 38% who have a Very Unfavorable impression of the former GOP president. These findings almost exactly reflect the final job approval ratings for Trump in January 2021.

But somehow you believe that a deeply unpopular President will turn his Presidency around by being a Trump basher? Even if Trump was not growing back in popularity (as Biden declines) people want to see leaders lead, not complain about previous leaders.

But he literally wasted a speech attacking his predecessor?

Only true partisan Trump haters would believe that would work.

You'd probably have a better understanding of that had you been in any real business or job situation.

Despite Trump's and his allies' claims, voter fraud did not tip the 2020 race in Biden's favor. Former Attorney General William Barr, who was widely viewed as one of Trump's most loyal Cabinet members, asserted in December 2020 that there was "no evidence" to support that allegation after he had the Justice Department investigate. Furthermore, audits and recounts across the country—including in states where the election was overseen by pro-Trump Republicans—have reaffirmed Biden's win.

Senator Lisa Murkowski, an Alaska Republican who voted to convict Trump for inciting the January 6 attack in his February 2021 impeachment trial, blamed him again for spurring the violence.

"Today marks one year since the U.S. Capitol was stormed by a mob incited by our former president. Those of us who were there to fulfill our constitutional responsibilities can never erase what we saw and heard, nor will we ever forget the desecration and violence that took place," the GOP senator said in a statement.

"A year later, the sadness and anger of knowing that it was Americans who breached the center of our democracy, to thwart certification of a lawful election, remains with me," Murkowski added.

Trump’s unique role in sending extremism mainstream helps explain the most salient domestic terrorism we face in 2022: political violence by those who are convinced the 2020 election was stolen. Many of the calls for violence I’ve observed denigrate Biden’s presidency as illegitimate and refer directly to the falsehood that his victory was “rigged.” A University of Massachusetts Amherst poll revealed that nearly 71 percent of Republican voters still contest the 2020 election results, falling victim to Trump’s “Big Lie.” When almost three-quarters of a political party believe an election was stolen, and that party’s leader continuously reinforces the belief, it lowers the bar for violence.

As the country continues to open up, this bigger, more nebulous universe of extremists may start to carry out the sorts of attacks we were lucky to avoid in 2021. In a Public Religion Research Institute poll from November, nearly one-third of Republicans agreed that “true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country.” Another recent poll showed that an astonishing four in 10 Republicans and independents said that “violent action against the government is sometimes justified.”

Just pointing our Reverend...

That Trump is arguably more popular right now than Biden and if all Biden has to offer is criticism of the former President. Well then I guess Biden will become even "less" popular.

Because there are real issues to address today. Democrats want to rehash a riot that happened a year ago...

THAT A VAST MAJORITY OF THE PUBLIC NO LONGER CARES MUCH ABOUT!

Dick Cheney comes to Capitol on Jan. 6, says he's 'deeply disappointed' in GOP leadership
ABC News

While most Republicans were absent on Capitol Hill for the Jan. 6 anniversary Thursday, one of the party's most prominent elder statesmen was there.

ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl spoke to former Vice President Dick Cheney just off the House floor.

Asked why he came to the Capitol this day, Cheney said, "It's an important historical event," referring to the anniversary of the insurrection. "You can't overestimate how important it is."

He added, "I'm deeply disappointed we don't have better leadership in the Republican Party to restore the Constitution."

He noted that his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., is an exception. She is the vice chair of the House select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol, and has come under heavy fire from fellow Republicans.

Cheney then went to the House floor with his daughter — he has lifetime floor privileges as a congressman who held the seat she now occupies — to observe a moment of silence.

One by one, Democratic members, including some liberals who castigated him and his politics when he was vice president — approached him to shake his hand and pay their respects.

Besides the Cheneys and her staffers, there were no other Republicans in sight.

As Cheney departed the House chamber, walking alongside his daughter, he told ABC News, "Very proud of Liz," when asked for some parting thoughts.

“It’s great coming back,” he told a swarm of reporters. "Liz is doing a hell of a job. I’m here to support her."

When asked for his reaction to Republican leadership’s handling of this day, Cheney — not one to mince words — said, "Well, it’s not a leadership that resembles any of the folks that I knew when I was here for 10 years — dramatically."

Rep Liz Cheney said it was "very concerning," adding, "I think a party that is in thrall to a cult personality is a party that is dangerous to the country, and I think we clearly have got to get to a place we are we are focused on substance and on issues."

Republicans Cede the Day to Democrats
January 6, 2022 at 5:56 pm EST

Punchbowl News:
“We didn’t anticipate President Joe Biden going so hard after former President Donald Trump, nor did we anticipate how overwhelmingly silent Republicans were going to be today.

The GOP leadership in both chambers seemed almost overwhelmed by the moment.

Here and there, individual GOP lawmakers took shots at Biden and the Democrats for ‘over-hyping’ the attack or using today’s ceremony to score points against Republicans.

And conservative media criticized Biden for his barrage against Trump, although Trump wasn’t named. But largely, Republicans ceded the field to Democrats.

“The Republicans’ absence stuck out like a sore thumb:

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and former Vice President Dick Cheney were the only Republicans in the building today.

That’s not surprising, but it’s still pretty striking. Just a year ago, the Capitol was under attack and the entire Congress was stunned.”

White supremacist are starting violence against traditional black colleges.

At least eight historically Black colleges, including Howard University in Washington and Spelman College in Atlanta, received bomb threats on Tuesday, prompting investigations by local police and the FBI.

Though authorities said they found no bombs, some students said they were still on edge, while others said they were not on campus at the time because of winter break.

Other schools to report bomb threats were the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; Florida Memorial University; Norfolk State University; North Carolina Central University; Prairie View A&M University in Texas; and Xavier University of Louisiana.

Howard spokesperson Frank Tramble confirmed to NBC News that the university had received a call from an anonymous individual who said two bombs had been placed in the administration building.

Howard’s Department of Public Safety and the Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department “secured the perimeter, evacuated the building, and deployed canines,” the school said in a statement. “Both departments searched the area. No active devices were found, and the area was cleared.”

In a statement, Spelman College said the Atlanta Police Department (APD) responded to a potential bomb threat in the Manley College Center, which was empty at the time.

These words will go down in history as most important history of his career

That's President Joe Biden during a speech he gave Thursday morning to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the US Capitol riot. It's not only a memorable line -- it's likely to be the one that gets repeated the most today and in the days to come -- but also a hugely important one if we hope to fully come to grips with what happened last January 6 and everything that led to that moment.

At the heart of the line is the idea of patriotism. Remember that Donald Trump ran for president in 2016 expressly on the idea of putting "America first." The idea that animated both his campaign and his four years in the White House was that the United States was exceptional in the world and that, for too long, American leaders had been afraid to loudly and proudly proclaim that fact, choosing instead to make America subservient to lesser countries around the world.

"The future doesn't belong to globalists," Trump said in a 2019 foreign policy speech at the United Nations. "The future belongs to patriots."

What makes America so special? Nothing differentiates us from the other world powers -- China, Russia -- more than our commitment to the peaceful transition of power every four years.

The idea that whether your preferred candidate wins that you a) accept the results of a presidential election as free and fair and b) recognize the winner as the president sits at the core of who we are as Americans.

C.H. Truth said...

And the Capitol Rioters were not trying to burn down private property, take over police stations, occupy city blocks at gunpoint, loot, or start things on fire.

I get it Roger.

For you it's not about the actions.

It's the political motivation that bugs you.

If anyone actually cared about a rule of law, we would have punished those people for their crimes. Everyone who was part of Chaz or Chop or whatever would be charged. Everyone who carried a gun and prevented people who legitimately worked or lived in Capital hill from coming and going would be in jail now and have years to go. Everyone who burned down a building or put on riot gear and attacked a police line... all charged and sent to jail.

But we didn't do that Roger. Because of the politics.

Instead we heard hysteria about people being kidnapped (when they were arrested) and we heard people calling the police "storm troopers".

And now... entirely because of the politics... we are out there charging non-violent people who never even entered the capital building with "picketing" or "parading" because the DC powers don't like the politics involved with their protests.

It's all about Politics with you Roger.

Because you are an unhappy angry man who hates that people disagree with you.

George Washington, as the first president, was well aware of the great responsibility of defining the American presidency. "I walk on untrodden ground," was a frequent comment he made in the days leading up to his first inauguration.

Washington believed that the precedents he set must make the presidency powerful enough to function effectively in the national government, but at the same time these practices could not show any tendency toward monarchy or dictatorship.

In addition to defining the actual powers of the office, Washington also needed to show the new nation how the leader of a democracy should behave socially. There was no precedent for this office in a world full of kings, leaving Washington the monumental task of figuring out how to act like a president.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The edifice of American exceptionalism has always wobbled on a shoddy foundation of self-delusion, and yet most Americans have readily accepted the commonplace that the United States is the world’s oldest continuous democracy. That serene assertion has now collapsed.

On January 6, 2021, when white supremacists, militia members, and maga faithful took inspiration from the President and stormed the Capitol in order to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential election, leaving legislators and the Vice-President essentially held hostage, we ceased to be a full democracy. Instead, we now inhabit a liminal status that scholars call “anocracy.” That is, for the first time in two hundred years, we are suspended between democracy and autocracy. And that sense of uncertainty radically heightens the likelihood of episodic bloodletting in America, and even the risk of civil war.

This is the compelling argument of “How Civil Wars Start,” a new book by Barbara F. Walter, a political scientist at the University of California San Diego. Walter served on an advisory committee to the C.I.A. called the Political Instability Task Force, which studies the roots of political violence in nations from Sri Lanka to the former Yugoslavia. Citing data compiled by the Center for Systemic Peace, which the task force uses to analyze political dynamics in foreign countries, Walter explains that the “honor” of being the oldest continuous democracy is now held by Switzerland, followed by New Zealand. In the U.S., encroaching instability and illiberal currents present a sad picture. As Walter writes, “We are no longer a peer to nations like Canada, Costa Rica, and Japan.”

In her book and in a conversation for this week’s New Yorker Radio Hour, Walter made it clear that she wanted to avoid “an exercise in fear-mongering”; she is wary of coming off as sensationalist. In fact, she takes pains to avoid overheated speculation and relays her warning about the potential for civil war in clinical terms. Yet, like those who spoke up clearly about the dangers of global warming decades ago, Walter delivers a grave message that we ignore at our peril. So much remains in flux. She is careful to say that a twenty-first-century American civil war would bear no resemblance to the consuming and symmetrical conflict that was played out on the battlefields of the eighteen-sixties. Instead she foresees, if the worst comes about, an era of scattered yet persistent acts of violence: bombings, political assassinations, destabilizing acts of asymmetric warfare carried out by extremist groups that have coalesced via social media. These are relatively small, loosely aligned collections of self-aggrandizing warriors who sometimes call themselves “accelerationists.” They have convinced themselves that the only way to hasten the toppling of an irredeemable, non-white, socialist republic is through violence and other extra-political means.

When you hold two years of investigations claiming that there was interference in the election process and that the sitting President was conspiring with foreign powers to alter the election results.

that is not accepting the results as free and fair.

I have never once stated that Joe Biden is not President. I refer to him as President. I do not use the immature "not my president" argument. He was legally sworn in as President.

All of that can be accepted and someone can still question the manner in which an election was conducted. Joe Biden is President. But there was still election fraud. Both are 100% accurate statements.

There is absolutely no difference in investigating election fraud as there is in investigating election interference (as Democrats did for two years).

You were one of those who cheered for Mueller and was disappointed that he didn't find anything to prove the allegations. I am sure you would have liked to have seen Trump "frogmarched" out of the White House after being proven to have conspired.

But we all know now that the whole Russian collusion was a hoax.

Bomb Explodes in Capitol

November 7, 1983

The Senate had planned to work late into the evening of Monday, November 7, 1983.  Deliberations proceeded more smoothly than expected, however, so the body adjourned at 7:02 p.m.  A crowded reception, held near the Senate Chamber, broke up two hours later.  Consequently, at 10:58 p.m., when a thunderous explosion tore through the second floor of the Capitol’s north wing, the adjacent halls were virtually deserted.  Many lives had been spared."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Those numbers are very to change soon because

His poll numbers plummeting and Covid cases soaring, President Joe Biden began the new year desperate for a new narrative.

On Thursday, Donald Trump's "bruised ego" and yours too,may have handed it to him.

In a forceful speech roundly described as his most powerful since he took office, Biden pinned responsibility for the horrors of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack on Trump, painting him as a sore loser whose inability to embrace the truth of his defeat only deepened the political chasm dividing Americans.

"The former president of the United States of America has created and spread a web of lies about the 2020 election. He has done so because he values power over principle, because he sees his own interest as more important than his country's interest, than America's interest," Biden said of Trump. "And because his bruised ego matters more to him than our democracy or our Constitution, he can't accept he lost." And neither can you Scott.

It was a rare moment during Biden's presidency when he stepped outside his cloak of unity and directly blamed the violent upheaval on Trump.

Biden made sure to explicitly and simply state the obvious: "He is not just the former president. He is a defeated former president."

Biden's decision to speak so plainly cheered many of his supporters.

"This is something that will be welcomed by almost every Democrat," said longtime Democratic operative Simon Rosenberg, the president of NDN, a center-left think tank based in Washington.

Rosenberg was among those who urged the White House for months to escalate its rhetoric about ongoing threats to democracy.

"The radicalization of the GOP is something we can no longer ignore," he said.

Greg Schultz, Biden's onetime campaign manager, said his phone lit up at the close of the speech with texts like "This is the Biden I supported" and "Literally, the best speech he's given in years."

"This is when Biden is most powerful," Schultz said in an interview, citing Biden's fear of an erosion of democracy as the motivating force behind his White House run. He said Biden finally got personal with Trump on Thursday because there was no way he couldn't.

"This is one of the times when you don't have a choice. It is clear that Jan. 6 wouldn't have happened if it weren't for Trump," Schultz said. "This is one time when you can't remove the instigator, because the event was so egregious to the republic."

Tapping into his party's outrage at "the former president" offered a respite, however brief, from the grim, unrelenting reminders of record Covid case numbers, school closings and rising consumer prices. Some Democrats saw the move as a vital use of the president's bully pulpit, given the looming midterm elections, which could mean unending and unfounded challenges to election results and even the threat of violence.

In the year since a mob of his supporters assaulted the Capitol to disrupt the electoral vote count formalizing Biden's victory,
Trump has continually repeated his insistence that the election was stolen. He has solidified his power over Republicans as parts of the party break off into more radicalized factions.

"The president made pretty clear today that defending democracy is going to be central to his agenda in 2022," Rosenberg said. "It was always there, and the primary reason he ran for president. But in 2021 other vital priorities crowded out the president's democracy agenda."

He said Biden's remarks made it clear that the battle between democracy and autocracy is now "definitional for the Biden presidency."

You have supported autocracy since he was nominated.

Roger Amick!!!

The man who by his own admission is against the constitution and anti-American because he refused to accept Donald Trump's legitimate victory and instead listened to Hillary Clinton's lies!

Roger tells us all that he is a traitor to the country!

Also condemns the Reverend and Denny for not 100% supporting President Trump when he was legally dutifully and fairly elected President.

Congratulations Roger.

The first honest thing you have said in some time.

I applaud you!

Well, it you believed there was, how stupid do you feel today.

You mean where it says the post has been deleted BY THE AUTHOR?

No, that is not what has been happening. I have put up several posts and seen them accepted as posts, only to have them to have disappeared when I returned.
'
For example, this is the third time I posted the following only to have it didappear:

I will just say this: As for the collusion matter, I will say that I never commented much on it, but was waiting for the investigation to be commpleted, so you can't accuse me of playing the collusion card.

This is now the fourth time I put this up and it disappeared all three times before. And with no indication in the sidebar it had been removed either by the author or the administrator.

My repeated message disappeared from the first two threads below, but remained (the last time I looked) on the next two threads.

I say, and the courts say, and several Republican state officials say, that Biden's election was legitimate and has been proven to be so.

And a number of truthful Republicans say so.

You are not one of them.

Rep. Liz Cheney confirms she snapped at Rep. Jim Jordan during the January 6 insurrection.
Cheney told Jordan, "get away from me, you fucking did this," as House members were evacuating.
Cheney became a vocal Trump critic and is on the select committee probing January 6.
GOP Rep. Liz Cheney confirmed she told fellow Rep. Jim Jordan "get away from me, you fucking did this," as members evacuated the House chamber during the January 6, 2021 siege on the Capitol.

The New York Times' Michael Barbaro asked Cheney about the incident during an interview on "The Daily" podcast that aired Thursday, the first anniversary of the insurrection.

The interaction between Jordan and Cheney was reported in the book "I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump's Catastrophic Final Year" by Washington Post reporters Phillip Rucker and Carol Leonnig, published in 2021.

"Can you confirm this story? Because I think it's important," Barbaro asked.

"It's true," Cheney said.

"I was in the aisle, on the aisle, and he came over to me and basically said, 'We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. And I basically said...I had watched for months since the election what was going on, and the lies that had been told to people," she said. "I think it was both that I certainly didn't need his help, and secondly, I thought clearly that the lie they had been spreading and telling to people had absolutely contributed to what we were living through at that moment."

Rucker and Leonnig wrote in the book that Cheney later relayed the moment to Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"That fucking guy Jim Jordan," Cheney told Milley, according to the book. "That son of a bitch … While these maniacs are going through the place, I'm standing in the aisle and he said 'We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. Let me help you.' I smacked his hand away and told him, 'Get away from me. You fucking did this.'"

After the insurrection, Cheney became a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and voted to impeach him for inciting the insurrection, moves that cost her her position in House leadership and ostracized her from her party. She's now the vice-chairwoman of the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection.

Jordan, a staunch Trump supporter and ally in Congress, was among a key group of House Republican lawmakers organizing the GOP effort to object to the counting of electoral votes on January 6. The Select Committee has asked Jordan to provide information about his communications with Trump during the riots.

On Thursday, Cheney, along with her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, were during the moment of silence

Ted Cruz Apologizes for Calling Capitol Rioters ‘Terrorists’
January 6, 2022 at 10:52 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 250 Comments

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) went on Tucker Carlon’s show to say it had been a “mistake” for him to call the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol a “terrorist attack” after he received pushback from supporters of former President Trump.

Said Cruz: “As a result of my sloppy phrasing, it’s caused a lot of people to misunderstand what I meant. What I was referring to was the limited number of people who engaged in violent attacks against police officers.”

Jonathan Chait: “Cruz thought the sweet spot for him was to position himself as a champion of Trump’s non-violent efforts to discard the election results while strongly condemning its violent aspects. Not for the first time, and probably not for the last, he misjudged the political market.”

Aaron Blake: “It did not go quite so well. But it did at least provide an extremely apt picture of the current state of the post-Jan. 6 GOP — on the evening of Jan. 6 itself, no less.”
