The prosecutors, Carey R. Dunne and Mark F. Pomerantz, submitted their resignations after the new Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, indicated to them that he had doubts about moving forward with a case against Mr. Trump, the people said. Mr. Pomerantz confirmed in a brief interview that he had resigned, but declined to elaborate. Mr. Dunne declined to comment.
| Dunne and Pomerantz upset that they cannot charge Trump |
Without Mr. Bragg’s commitment to move forward, the prosecutors late last month postponed a plan to question at least one witness before the grand jury, one of the people said. They have not questioned any witnesses in front of the grand jury for more than a month, essentially pausing their investigation into whether Mr. Trump inflated the value of his assets to obtain favorable loan terms from banks. The precise reasons for Mr. Bragg’s pullback are unknown, and he has made few public statements about the status of the inquiry since taking office. In a statement responding to the resignations of the prosecutors, a spokeswoman for Mr. Bragg said that he was “grateful for their service” and that the investigation was ongoing.
To be clear, this was the last remaining "criminal" probe into Trump and was largely overlapped by the civil case that is being brought by the SDNY. In fact, I wasn't even sure that this probe was still around given the lack of activity and the fact that the civil suit seems to be drawing more attention.
Still not exactly sure what the civil suit hopes to accomplish. Regardless of what some people believe, this sort of potential "tax fraud" suit (for lack of a better term) is not going to bankrupt anyone. If they can prove that Trump Inc owes the state of New York some taxes, well then perhaps they can collect on that. But they are not going to be taking Trump Towers or causing much personal strain on Trump himself.
179 comments:
The pause coincides with an escalation in the activity of a parallel civil inquiry by the New York state attorney general, Letitia James, whose office is examining some of the same conduct by Mr. Trump and is also participating in the criminal inquiry.
In a statement, a spokeswoman for Ms. James’s office said of the criminal inquiry, “The investigation is ongoing, and there is a robust team working on it.”
Ms. James, who last week received approval from a judge to question Mr. Trump and two of his adult children under oath, has filed court documents describing a number of ways in which the Trump Organization appeared to have misrepresented the value of its properties.
She concluded that the company had engaged in “fraudulent or misleading” practices, and although she lacks the authority to criminally charge Mr. Trump, she could sue him.
Mr. Bragg’s office must meet a higher bar to bring a criminal case. And for his part, Mr. Trump has disputed the notion that he inflated his property values or defrauded his lenders and has accused Mr. Bragg and Ms. James, both Democrats who are Black, of being politically motivated and “racists.”
“I’ve been representing Donald Trump for over a year in this case, and I haven’t found any evidence that could lead to a prosecution against him, or any crimes,” said a lawyer for Mr. Trump, Ronald P. Fischetti. “I hope Mr. Bragg will now look again at all the evidence in the case and make a statement that he is discontinuing all investigation of Donald Trump.”
As Mr. Bragg’s grand jury presentation has come to a halt, another serious criminal inquiry into the former president has been gaining steam. In recent weeks, a district attorney in Atlanta asked a judge to convene a grand jury for an investigation into Mr. Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.
The Manhattan investigation, which proceeded in fits and starts for years, was the most developed of the three criminal inquiries into Mr. Trump. It resulted in the indictments last summer of the Trump Organization and its long-serving chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg, on separate tax-related charges.
After announcing those charges, the prosecutors zeroed in on a subject that has spurred much debate over the years: Mr. Trump’s net worth.
It looks like Mr.Bragg folded under pressure from Republicans....
They resigned after he quit the investigation into Trump's financial situation...
Plus I don't believe in coincides, especially in political investigations....
This is typical example of how he has been able to control others.
This is an example of how he has operating very well designed in his lifetime...this is not a coincident event..

Nope. Not coincidental at all. Just a last gasp effort for a local Fulton county official to seat a grand jury with no authority to indict anyone for any crimes.
All for actions that the current AG of Georgia has discounted and not pursued criminally. The Atlanta DA has no real authority to charge Trump in this situation. Like the Jan 6th witch hunt, all she can do is "recommend" something.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin painstakingly built up momentum for his recognition of the self-proclaimed “republics” in eastern Ukraine, Russian state media and loose-lipped lawmakers signaled his plans in advance.
Putin’s bold-faced demand for “security guarantees'” caught the West off-guard, but the pro-Kremlin mouthpieces were bursting with pride about the leader’s “genius” plan. They spilled the beans on state television and even in Russian parliament, boasting about how Putin had intentionally asked for the impossible, only to turn around and use NATO’s refusal as an excuse to re-invade Ukraine on a larger scale.
In addition to blaming NATO for allegedly threatening Russia with its expansion, Russian state media and the cadre of covert operators in eastern Ukraine worked to ratchet up the tensions. The simmering conflict was set ablaze with a series of alleged attacks against civilians, unexplained explosions and even alleged attempts to shell and penetrate the Russian border. Eliot Higgins, founder of the open-source investigation team Bellingcat, along with his team, quickly debunked Russia’s multiple false-flag videos as sloppy fabrications. Higgins tweeted: “These are genuinely some of the most idiotic efforts at disinformation I've seen. I expected to be lied to, but I didn't expect all those lies to be so blatantly dumb. I'm actually offended at the poor quality of this propaganda...”
The Kremlin’s plans were dampened not only by the Biden administration’s decision to release key findings of U.S. intelligence agencies. Russian lawmakers and state TV personalities also laid bare the Kremlin’s intent to attack Ukraine, a plan they imply was hatched long before the recent false-flag operations were set into motion.
This is why I support Sleepy Joe Biden, because he is capable to handle the most important situation in my lifetime and even World War Two.

Even Ted Cruz endorsed him on Ukraine Ukraine
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement after Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would recognize the independence of Ukrainian territories and deploy forces into them —
“Vladimir Putin's announcement today is just the latest step in his obsessive drive to rebuild the Soviet Union, at the expense of the national security of the United States and our allies. He seeks to make the lives of Americans worse, and he will use whatever new territory, resources, and power that he gains to do so—including control over energy he would seize in Ukraine. His announcements today, including the recognition of non-governmental controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine and that Russia would be deploying forces into Ukraine, must be met with an immediate response.
“For months, Ukraine's political leaders and its civil society pleaded with the United States to help them counter Russia by immediately sanctioning Nord Stream 2 and providing them with the weapons they need to defend themselves. We committed as a nation in the Budapest Memorandum to helping ensure their sovereignty and territorial integrity, and it is gravely in our national security interests to do so. The crisis that now threatens to engulf them will also create unknowable and acute dangers for our European NATO allies, whom we are bound by treaty to help defend.
Even the pipeline
No one is calling for the United States to intervene militarily on Ukraine's behalf, and it would be a catastrophic mistake to do so. Instead, the United States must impose devastating sanctions against Putin's interests, including immediate and mandatory sanctions permanently putting an end to his Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Ronald Reagan would be ashamed of you.

Plus I told you that the investigation was blocked by a Republican hack
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg should have fully revealed his views about an investigation into former president Donald Trump and his company before Bragg was elected in November, according to MSNBC analyst Elie Mystal.
Two prosecutors who were leading Bragg's office's criminal probe into the Trump Organization, Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz, abruptly resigned Wednesday. According to the New York Times, Dunne and Pomerantz stepped down because Bragg indicated he had doubts about moving forward with a prosecution of Trump.
"This stinks!" Mystal said. "Alvin Bragg needs to answer some questions soon, right? And there are two important questions he needs to answer, I believe, for this decision."
He then broke down why Bragg has so much to answer for.
"One, Dunne and Pomerantz, the two prosecutors who quit, are very respected prosecutors within New York legal circles," he said. "So why did they think they had a case that they could pursue to the grand jury, but Bragg didn't? He can't just say, 'Oh, we didn't have a case,' because two of your prosecutors thought you did. So you have to explain to me why you have this, let's call it a minority position, compared to the other people in your office, about the culpability of one Mr. Donald Trump."
"The No. 2 question he has to answer — as the Times reported, they haven't really interviewed people for a month," Mystal added. "He's only been on the job for two months, so what did he know before he was elected about this case that made him want to back off of that case, and why did he not bring that up during the election? Because, I don't know, New Yorkers might have wanted to know his thoughts on the Trump prosecution that he clearly pre-made before he got into office, or else he wouldn't have been able to shut the prosecution down, if that's what happened, so quickly. So I'm going to reserve some judgment, but Mr. Bragg has some questions to answer about this decision."
“China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man,” the former vice president said.
“I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what? They’re not competition for us,”

Why did Biden move troops and ships.

Nope. Ted Cruz criticized Putin and has also criticized Biden for a poor response.
Just a couple of weeks ago the Democrats used the "filibuster" to prevent Cruz's bill that would have forced Biden to put the pipeline sanctions back in place on Russia.
Slow Joe had refused. Allowing the pipeline to be built. Now those exact same sanctions (that Trump had imposed) are back in place and Biden acts like he is being a tough guy?
How tough is it when sanctions you lifted, fought with your own Senate against... and then reimpose them after military action is taken by Russia?
I mean who falls for this?

Russian Invasion of Ukraine Has Begun

The Ukrainian interior ministry said in a statement that the Russian invasion has begun, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Explosions were reported in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kramatorsk and other parts of the country.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister said on Twitter that Putin had “started a full-scale war against Ukraine” and had begun shelling civilian cities.
President Biden called Vladimir Putin’s move “an unprovoked, unjustified attack” in Ukraine, pledging further action against Russia.

Now, you guys be sure to keep rooting for Putin and Russia.
And KanDim can keep yawning.
Tucker Carlson basically said: ‘Putin isn’t your enemy. Your fellow American is.'” Right, that’s part of the nationalist project. The important struggle is the one between competing tribes to decide which should dominate the nation. All else is a distraction. But apologizing for Putin has another goal: It aims to get Americans to question their instinct that they should feel more sympathy for a liberal democracy than for a fascist regime. Why should we prefer Zelensky Putin said that he is a Nazi,to Putin?

Russia on Thursday launched a military assault against Ukraine, President Biden said, with explosions occurring across a wide swath of the country, in what the president called an “unjustified attack” that signals “a premeditated war.”
The explosions could be heard in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, and Kharkiv, in the country’s northeast. A senior Ukrainian official said there were also explosions at the country’s largest airport, in Kyiv. Air raid sirens were going off in the capital.
The attacks came as Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the launch of a “special military operation” to carry out the “demilitarization and denazification” of Ukraine and end eight years of war in the country’s east, where Kyiv government forces have been fighting Russian-backed separatists.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared martial law, a Ukrainian government official said Thursday. Biden and his Ukrainian counterpart were speaking on the phone just before midnight Eastern time, according to a White House official.
In a statement, Biden said that Putin “has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.”
“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way,” he said. “The world will hold Russia accountable.”
Here’s what to know
Biden plans to speak early Thursday afternoon and will address “further consequences” that the United States and its allies plan to impose on Russia, the White House said.
Zelensky pleaded with the Russian people late Wednesday to stop their leadership from sending troops across the border and into his country.
Members of the U.N. Security Council made a succession of pleas for peace and dialogue in an emergency session that laid bare the limits of the world body’s influence.
Civil aircraft flights across Ukraine’s airspace were suspended Thursday because of “potential hazard to civil aviation,” according to a notice to airmen.
U.S. markets sank again Wednesday as uncertainty over the conflict in Ukraine continued to plague investors. The growing threat of war in Ukraine also moved oil prices higher.
MEDIA CLOSING RANKS AROUND BIDEN ON UKRAINE
Scott noted here that has taken over 80 years, but Hollywood finally got round to exonerating Neville Chamberlain for his malfeasance in Munich in 1938. Today’s media isn’t even waiting 80 hours to exonerate President Biden. They are already declaring this to be Biden’s finest hour.
Behold the Washington Post just three days ago:
With or without war, Ukraine gives Biden a new lease on leadership
Six months ago, the transatlantic alliance was on shaky ground, with President Biden’s promise of a reinvigorated NATO under U.S. leadership severely undermined by the Afghanistan debacle and a foreign policy that seemed unready for prime time.
Today, Biden and his team have redeemed themselves in the eyes of many NATO allies, with a tough stance on Ukraine and the successful wrangling of the often-fractious alliance to support it.
And this tweet on Monday from Paul Begala seals his reputation as a hack and lightweight:
Lawmakers strike bipartisan note to condemn Putin, call for more sanctions
Washington rarely finds moments of agreement, but the initial response to the attacks in Ukraine prompted some unity.
In a show of unity, Republican and Democratic lawmakers swiftly condemned Russia’s military attack against Ukraine and vowed to inflict economic pain on President Vladimir Putin by imposing a torrent of punishing new sanctions.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said she wants Russia cut off from the SWIFT international banking system. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called on international law enforcement to target Putin and his allies by seizing their “lavish apartments, fine art, yachts” and other items.
And Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said the U.S. must continue to send financial support and arms to Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia.
“Today’s invasion of Ukraine by Russia is a premeditated and flagrant act of war,” said Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho, the top Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee. “These are not the actions of a proud nation and people, but the actions of a desperate man whose only desire is to sow chaos in order to make himself look strong.”
His Democratic counterpart, Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Menendez of New Jersey, said Putin’s “unprovoked attack” has underscored the need to blacklist the Russian president and “expel the current Kremlin leadership from the international community.”
“Today must mark a historical shift in how the world views and deals with the despot in Moscow,” Menendez said.
Biden to impose 'severe sanctions' on Russia at meeting with G7 leaders
The flurry of statements and tweets from Capitol Hill came moments after Putin declared Thursday local time in a national televised address that Russia was launching a military operation to support the “demilitarization and denazification” of eastern Ukraine. Explosions could be heard in cities across the country, including in the capital of Kyiv, where emergency sirens sounded.
For the most part, Democrats and Republicans struck a bipartisan note, pressing Biden to go further in sanctioning Russia but reserving their fury for Putin.
“Following news of Putin’s further invasion of Ukraine with enormous concern and anger,” tweeted Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, typically a vocal critic of Biden. “The US will stand with our Ukrainian allies, continue to provide them with arms to defend themselves, and work to counter Putin and hold accountable those responsible for this aggression.”
And the top Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs, Armed Services and Intelligence committees also took direct aim at Putin.
“The last few hours have laid bare for the world to witness the true evil that is Vladimir Putin. …” Reps. Mike McCaul, R-Texas, Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Mike Turner, R-Ohio, said in a joint statement. “Every drop of Ukrainian and Russian blood spilled in this conflict is on Putin’s hands, and his alone.”
Ch will soon say that it would not have taken place if Donald Trump was the President.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the country’s armed forces were putting up a strong resistance. “The enemy has sustained serious losses,” he told reporters, saying his government was handing out weapons to citizens who were ready to defend Ukrainian territory.
“Russia carried out a villainous attack on our state in the early morning. The same as fascist Germany did in the time of World War II,” he said. “From today our states are on different sides of world history. The Russian state is on the path of evil.”
Mr. Zelensky also called on those with military experience to report to authorities for further instructions. He also called on Ukrainians to give blood at hospitals where necessary.
“We are defending our freedom. Be ready to support your state on the squares of your cities,” he said.
Mr. Zelensky earlier said he had ordered the introduction of martial law across Ukraine and had spoken with President Biden about the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Russian citizens to oppose a war in an address in Russian.PHOTO: UKRAINE PRESIDENCY HANDOUT
Ukraine’s defense minister, Oleksii Reznikov, said the government was arming citizens who had joined territorial defense forces in their hometowns. “Ukraine is entering a state of total defense,” he said in a message on social media. “Death to Russian occupiers!”
Kyiv didn’t immediately offer any official estimate of casualties. But a senior Ukrainian official said he believed hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers had died in Russian airstrikes and missile attacks that began at 5 a.m. local time.
What is Putin really after? Not just keeping Ukraine out of NATO, because NATO itself isn’t Putin’s biggest worry. After all, Hungary and Poland are NATO members but are governed in ways that resemble Russia more than Western democracies. Putin’s real fear is liberal democracy, which poses a direct threat to authoritarian “strongmen” like him (just as it did to Donald Trump). Putin wants to keep liberal democracy far away from Russia. Yet for nearly two centuries, Ukraine has been the leading edge of Western ideology and culture in the face of a reactionary Russia.
Putin’s means of keeping Western liberal democracy at bay isn’t just to invade Ukraine, of course. It’s also to stoke division inside the West by fueling racist nationalism in Western Europe and the United States. In this, Trump and Trumpism continue to be Putin’s most important ally.
And the fat assed idiot you fawn over, continues to praise Putin in light of his words and now invasion.....

Yesterday Putin gave a quite amazing (and short) press conference. Not only did he declare that Russia recognizes the LDNR Republics in their own, legal, borders (i.e. the full Donetsk and Lugansk regions), he also listed the four steps needed to be taken by the Ukraine to avoid a direct, unilateral, Russian action:
The Ukraine must recognize Crimea and Sevastopol as Russian territory
The Ukraine must officially renounce joining NATO
The Ukraine must negotiate a settlement with the LDNR Republics
The Ukraine must be demilitarized and declared neutral
This is clearly an ultimatum, but this time, to the authorities in Kiev.
As for the USA – the likely increase in the costs of energy (oil and gas) will provide an even further boost to the already very high inflation. But does “Biden” care?
Nope. “Biden” is so drunk on his ideological delusions that he rather accept an even worse inflation if that can hurt Russia (which it won’t, but nevermind that). That his sanctions won’t really hurt Russia is entirely irrelevant, in Zone A all that matters is make believe and verbiage. Facts don’t matter one bit.
I have been saying it for a long while already: there is no “US policy” left, all that’s left is chaos, corruption, gross incompetence, maniacal delusion of still being the planet’s Sheriff combined with a rather comical belief that the US can scare Russia into submission.
Joe, in Russia’s long history much stronger leaders than you have already tried that. Do you want to end like them?
Apparently yes!
In fact, the US has announced that there will be no Putin Biden meeting and no Lavrov Blinken meeting either. I am sure that both Putin and Lavrov are sobbing in abject fear and total despair…
There is a good chance that all this will end up with a full severance of diplomatic relations between Russia and the USA (along with a few EU Tabakis à la UK).
Furthermore, to show the “determination of the US led free West” the US is sending a few hundred extra troops to the Latvia. And some helicopters from Italy to Poland. And if that was not terrifying enough, Canada’s Trudeau is also sending a few hundred extra Canadian troops to the Baltics.
At this pace, in a few weeks NATO might have a “combined regiment” safely tucked away somewhere in Poland or the Baltics, while knowing full well that Russia will never use any force against the 3B simply because Russia has exactly zero interest in, or desire for, them or their lands.
Again, Putin said that he fully intends to disarm the Ukraine, at least from all her heavy weapons. Since the Ukies won’t give them up, I see only one way to achieve this: disarm them by force.
So, in one way or another, I expect major combat action in the Eastern Ukraine in the next couple of days.
Keep in mind that the West’s response to Putin’s words and actions only serve to further convince Russia that 1) more sanctions and subversion is inevitable 2) violence is unavoidable.
Remember these famous words by Putin: “Fifty years ago, the streets of Leningrad taught me one thing: If a fight’s inevitable, you must strike first“? . . . .

Fuck Ukraine & the MSM's "LOOK SQUIRREL!!!" bullshit...
Amid the media’s 24/7 UKRAINE UPDATES, perhaps some enterprising journalist could write an article explaining how our esteem for that country’s borders benefits a single American — other than President Joe Biden.

Putin Spins Theory That Ukraine Wants Nuclear Weapons
February 24, 2022 at 7:25 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
New York Times:
“When Ukraine gave up a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons left on its territory after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it famously struck a deal with Washington, London and Moscow, trading the weapons for a guarantee of its security and borders. Not surprisingly, the Ukrainian government is wondering what happened to that guarantee.
“But President Vladimir Putin of Russia has a very different complaint: He is spinning out a conspiracy theory — perhaps as a pretext to seize the country in a military operation that began there early Thursday — that Ukraine and the United States are secretly plotting to put nuclear weapons back into the country.”

Biden Aides Feared Sanctions Strategy Wouldn’t Work
February 24, 2022 at 7:21 am EST By Taegan Goddard 7 Comments
Bloomberg: “U.S. officials spent hundreds of hours over five months debating, crafting and then touting a punishing array of economic sanctions to try to scare Russian President Vladimir Putin off invading Ukraine, but almost from the beginning, many shared the same view: This strategy probably won’t work.
“More than a dozen current and former U.S. officials, many of whom helped assemble the response, told Bloomberg News they’ve been deeply dubious that sanctions would change Putin’s behavior. Yet after Biden made clear last year that the U.S. would not send troops or heavy weapons to Ukraine, there were no other solid options. It was left to his team to try to prove, for the first time, that the threat of economic warfare against a major adversary like Russia would suffice when military deterrence wasn’t an option.”

David Ignatius: “The biggest problem for Ukraine and its allies is that Russia knows this battlespace well — and undoubtedly has been recruiting a network of Ukrainian double agents. These agents can sow havoc for a resistance movement by revealing its leaders, safe houses, communications and plans of attack.

Russian Attack Threatens European Gas Supplies

“Russia’s new military push against Ukraine poses another threat to Europe’s already tenuous supply of natural gas,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week said he wouldn’t turn off his country’s flow of gas to Europe, after deploying troops to two breakaway Ukrainian provinces. But his announcement early Thursday of fresh military action in the country ratchets up risks to Ukraine’s gas-transport infrastructure, crucial to European supplies. It also poses the threat that Russia will shut off its gas in response to Western sanctions meant to punish Moscow.”
Financial Times: “Russia is confident it can shrug off Germany’s decision to halt certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and believes EU efforts to diversify the bloc’s energy sources will fail.”

A Confused Trump Tells Laura Ingraham U.S. Soldiers Landed in Ukraine to Fight the Russians: ‘You Said That We Were Sending People In’
By Michael LucianoFeb 24th, 2022, 2:21 am
During a phone interview on Fox News, former President Donald Trump mistakenly stated that American forces made an amphibious landing in Ukraine as Russia was invading the country.
Trump unexpectedly called into The Ingraham Angle shortly after Russia commenced its invasion of Ukraine on Wednesday night. The 45th president apparently felt it was a decent time to phone into Fox News and air his grievances about President Joe Biden.
At one point during Trump’s discussion with Laura Ingraham, he slammed Biden’s approach to energy policy.
“He doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing,” said Trump. “It’s a disgrace. It’s an absolute disgrace. We have [to] get back into the real world now. We had energy at a level that nobody’s ever seen.”
Ingraham subsequently mentioned a vague report about a landing.
“We’re just learning that U.S. officials are looking at a potential amphibious landing now in Odessa, Ukraine,” she said. “A month ago or three weeks ago, all the so-called experts were saying that Putin was probably gonna just be content with staying in those separatists regions. But I think given what’s unfolded – sadly with a lot of weakness in the United States – they just decided to go for it. I mean, it looks like they’re going for it. And where does that leave the NATO alliance?”
Trump replied that he’s “angry” and “saddened” about it as an American.
“And it all happened because of a rigged election,” Trump said, repeating his favorite lie.
With Trump still on the phone, Ingraham cut in to an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council where Ukraine’s ambassador unloaded on his Russian counterpart.
After a couple of minutes, Ingraham returned to Trump and called the Ukrainian president “pathetic” as his country was being invaded. She asked the former president for his “final reaction.”
Here’s the exchange that followed:
TRUMP:
Well, I think the whole thing – again – would’ve never happened. It shouldn’t happen. And it’s a very sad thing.
But you know what’s also very dangerous is you told me about the amphibious attack by Americans. You shouldn’t be saying that because you and everybody else shouldn’t know about it. They should do that secretly, not be doing that through the great Laura Ingraham. They should be doing that secretly. Nobody should know that, Laura, and you know–
INGRAHAM:
No, those are the Russian amphibious landings.
TRUMP:
Oh, I thought you said that we were sending people in.
INGRAHAM:
[laughing] No. No, I did not. No, no.
TRUMP:
Oh ok.
INGRAHAM:
That would be news.
TRUMP:
That’s all we need. That’ll be next, ok? Now, we want to protect our own borders. You know, we oughta get to the southern border and start protecting the southern border. But it’s a very terrible situation. It’s a situation that should’ve never happened, Laura.

A better question is - why are YOU rooting for Russia?
Here's what we know: Any sanctions that Joey Sprinkles enacts against Russia WILL NOT hurt Russia, but WILL HURT the average American.
Putin is sitting atop the 4th largest gold reserve on the planet, and is enjoying massive foreign currency reserves (read NOT US Dollars).
So in short, every additional sanction threatened or enacted against Russia is meaningless in fact, and serves only to dupe the domestic US MSM and YOU, as the MSM dutifully passes it on and you accept it without question or even a hint of scrutiny.
Case in point -
You know, they want you to believe global warming is caused by the factory they hate, not the big glowing nuclear explosion in the sky.
In the same way, it must be Russia! Russia! Russia! TM and not the fact that Zhou Bai Den, most serene vice-roi of Winnie the Xi pretty much forbade all domestic drilling, plus the pipeline from Canada. Like Castreau, Brandon needs his nose rubbed in his mess.
https://instapundit.com/505385/
So to reiterate, if you support the measures being taken by our feckless imbeciles in DC which are demonstrably causing no harm and could be in in fact HELPING RUSSIA, then you are a Putin stooge, a Putin fanboi, a Putin enabler, and a fucking idiot.
Omg, to funny how none of the Three Socialist Stooges of CHT have a clue of US history.
Nice Chat, like Biden all talk.
TLS American Greatness.
Biden and his minions have been warning Putin for months about harsh sanctions if he invaded Ukraine so he clearly prepared. Nord Stream 2 has been cancelled by Germany (for now). Then when he invaded, they issued soft sanctions on two banks and some people and warned Putin that you better not go over that next red line or we will really get tough.
My guess is Putin has worked out a deal with China to go around the sanctions. China doesn’t give a s*** about American sanctions on Iran or anyone else. They know how the politicians and bureaucrats cave.
Putin appears to be playing chess while Blinkin, Sullivan, Biden and the generals are playing tic-tac-toe.
While Putin, Iran, and China prepare for war, the American military is focused like a laser on wokeness, computer generated climate models and kicking healthy people out of the military for refusing a vaccine that doesn’t protect against a virus.
Will the media ever wonder why a politician’s wife in Moscow gave Hunter Biden over $3 million or do research on all the other kickbacks?
I have seen many journalists say that Putin appears to have changed and looks unstable. What about Biden?
Affirmative action VP assured Biden's War and coming Recession.
A better question is - why are YOU rooting for Russia?

How has the world responded?
Ukraine, the United States and others have condemned Russia’s aggression and dismissed Putin’s justifications. The United States and European Union allies have announced a range of limited sanctions already, targeting much of Putin’s inner circle. Those measures included suspending a natural gas pipeline project to Germany, blocking international transactions by some Russian banks and freezing the overseas assets of some wealthy Russian families and top officials.
Both America and Europe promised far tougher measures if Russia went as far as a full invasion of Ukraine. They have been negotiating the outlines of the steps for weeks, and are expected to come ahead with new penalties quickly.
But the likelihood of outside military intervention appears small, even though the United States and some European allies have provided weapons to Ukraine.
Some of the first responses to Russia’s invasion came from the U.N. Security Council, which was holding an emergency meeting as Putin announced military action.
“Unfortunately, while we’ve been meeting in the Security Council tonight, it appears that President Putin has ordered that last step,” said the U.S. ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield. “This is a grave emergency.”
Ukraine’s ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya, called on his Russian counterpart to phone Putin and ask him to stop the war. “There is no purgatory for war criminals,” Kyslytsya said. “They go straight to hell, ambassador.”
The Russian ambassador, Vasily Nebenzya, responded that his country was not attacking the Ukrainian people but rather “the junta in power in Kyiv.”
The Security Council was expected to meet Thursday to consider a resolution condemning Russian actions, which Russia, a permanent member of the council, will likely veto.
President Joe Biden said the United States and allies would be “imposing severe sanctions on Russia” on Thursday, following an initial set of penalties this week.
Biden said he spoke with Zelenskyy, who he said asked him “to call on the leaders of the world to speak out clearly against President Putin’s flagrant aggression, and to stand with the people of Ukraine.”

An excerpt from I Alone Can Fix It by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker suggests what might have been:
“In fact, Trump had privately indicated that he would seek to withdraw from NATO and to blow up the U.S. alliance with South Korea, should he win reelection. When those alliances had come up in meetings with Esper and other top aides, some advisers warned Trump that shredding them before the election would be politically dangerous.”
Said Trump: “Yeah, the second term. We’ll do it in the second term.”
Korea would have been invaded just like the Russian's are doing right now.

Russia’s Economy on the Brink of Crisis After Ukraine Attack
Despite Moscow’s talk about a sanctions-proof economy, Putin’s military action will likely have steep costs.
By Jake Cordell
Moscow claims its economy is well protected from any Western sanctions and the economic fallout that will follow.
_______
Russia’s economy faces being plunged into a fresh economic crisis following Moscow’s move to start military action in Ukraine.
The Russian ruble fell 10% to its lowest ever level against the U.S. dollar and euro Thursday morning within minutes of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a “special operation.”
Tough economic sanctions from the West are certain to follow, with leaders in the U.S. and Europe staging emergency meetings Thursday to decide how to respond to what Joe Biden has called Moscow’s “flagrant aggression.”
Despite months of tensions and a significant troop buildup by Russian forces, the prospect of full-scale war was being largely dismissed in Moscow until earlier this week when Putin delivered an angry address to the nation undermining Ukraine’s sovereignty and peddling unjustified claims about a “genocide” in Ukraine.
Moscow claims its economy is well protected from any Western sanctions and the economic fallout that will follow.
“It will be painful, but we’ve got through it before,” an economics correspondent said in a news update on state TV on Wednesday, after the first tranche of sanctions were put in place.
The Russian government says it has built up significant government reserves — more than $630 billion — which it believes will protect the economy from the worst of any economic crisis.
The government runs an annual surplus — meaning it does not need to borrow cash on either the domestic or international markets — and government debt is below 20% of the country’s GDP.
Russia has also boasted about the success of its import substitution drive since it annexed Crimea in 2014, pointing mainly to the development of its agricultural industry thanks to a ban on food imports from the EU.
State-owned Sberbank, by far the country’s largest and most important financial institution, issued a bullish statement on Thursday morning, claiming it was “ready for any development of the situation” and had “worked through scenarios to guarantee the protection of our resources, assets and customer interests.”
This balance sheet — dubbed “fortress Russia” — is regularly pointed to as a source of protection.
But analysts are not convinced it would be enough in the face of a likely unprecedented Western response, pointing to both damaging short-term and long-term consequences.
“Given the severity of the Russian actions, we expect Western policymakers to go beyond their worst-case scenario plans, which puts Russia’s expulsion from the SWIFT financial messaging system in play. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline will be sidelined indefinitely,” said Eurasia Group’s Henry Rome.
Cut off from global economy
Several large state-owned banks are likely to be sanctioned, effectively cutting them off from the global economy. Washington and Brussels have also previously highlighted the possibility of blocking technology exports to Russia — a move that would inflict serious damage on the country’s state-owned and private businesses which remain heavily reliant on Western hardware and software to power their operations.
FDR did nothing, like I said after Socialist invaded Poland.
Told ya so, god Roger is stupid .
From his Chat link.
FOR " "This nation will remain a neutral nation"
Despite Moscow’s high-profile de-dollarization drive in recent years — in anticipation of possible blocks on transacting in the currency — more than half of Russia’s exports are still priced in dollars, according to statistics cited by the Bank of Finland’s Institute for Economies in Transition (BOFIT). Another 30% are denominated in euros, as Russia’s economic partners — largely oil and gas buyers — have shunned the idea of switching to the Russian currency.
That leaves the Russian economy still heavily exposed to Western sanctions that target its ability to deal in the global economy.
At home, a crashing ruble will put even more pressure on an already struggling economy. Inflation is running at its highest level in six years of 8.7% and household finances are in a worse shape than a decade ago. A recent survey by a state-owned pollster found almost two-thirds of Russian families said they have no savings.
The ruble’s devaluation will only accentuate the living standards crisis — pushing prices up, possibly dramatically. According to one study, imported goods account for some 75% of the products and ingredients that go into making everyday products and food that are sold in Russia.
That dynamic will force the Central Bank into a familiar dilemma — bringing down inflation while not tanking the wider economy. Analysts expect it will prioritize the former, as in 2014, when the Russian economy faced a hard economic crisis following the annexation of Crimea and crash in global oil prices.
The regulator intervened Thursday morning to try to prop up the flagging currency and boost liquidity in the banking sector.
Interest rates
Interest rates are currently running at 9.5% and were already expected to rise to 11% or higher in the coming weeks. Higher borrowing costs will inevitably hurt Russian businesses and consumers, many of which are heavily indebted following a decade of economic stagnation.
Scope Ratings’ analyst Levon Kameryan said the escalation of the conflict could also result in capital flight, as Russians seek to protect their savings and assets from the looming economic crisis.
The key unknown in terms of the scope of an economic hit is energy flows, Kameryan added. Almost two-thirds of Russia’s natural gas exports flow to Europe and around half of its global oil sales — huge sources of revenue that have bankrolled Moscow’s “fortress Russia” sanctions-proofing in recent years.
Germany said Wednesday it had enough energy in storage to get through the winter should Russian flows be disrupted. There is little talk for now of Europe deciding to stop buying Russian energy, but there are fears Russia could turn off the taps or try to squeeze Europe in response to any sanctions package — especially as Putin has repeatedly shown that the domestic economy comes second to foreign policy in terms of priorities.
Russia’s energy exports to Europe are worth 90 billion euros a year, Scope Ratings calculated. Whether or not Russia moves to disrupt flows — and incur the loss of revenues — the latest action will only lead to an intensification of Europe's long-term move to reduce its reliance on Russian oil and gas, analysts said.
Y'all still rootin' for Putin?

No one really believed Russian President Vladimir Putin when he announced earlier this week that the open advancement of Russian troops into eastern Ukraine was a "peacekeeping" mission. Still, some thought—or at least hoped—that Russia would initially stick to invading contested areas in the Donbas region, where Russia-backed separatists have been fighting Ukrainian forces since 2014.
Those hopes have been dashed, as Russian aggression has already started extending beyond the areas that Putin earlier this week declared the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic and begun mounting a full-fledged invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine's Interior Ministry said—last night U.S. Eastern Time, early morning Ukrainian time—that Russian missiles had struck military targets in Ukraine's capital city of Kyiv and in the country's second-largest and fourth-largest cities, Kharkiv and Dnipro.
NPR journalists in Ukraine reported hearing explosions in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa, while the Associated Press "saw or confirmed explosions in the capital, in Mariupol on the Azov Sea, and Kharkiv in the east" and "confirmed video showing Russian military vehicles crossing into Ukrainian-held territory in the north from Belarus and from Russian-annexed Crimea in the south."
"This morning Russia launched a new military operation against our state," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement:
There are strikes on military and other important defense facilities, border units are under attack, the situation in the Donbas has degraded.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine, all special and law enforcement agencies of the state are on alert. The National Security and Defense Council is working in an emergency mode.
Martial law will be imposed.
Earlier this morning our time, Zelenskyy tweeted that Russia was "embark[ing] on a path of evil."
"A full-scale war in Europe has begun," said Zelenskyy adviser Mykhailo Podolyak. "Russia is not only attacking Ukraine, but the rules of normal life in the modern world."
So what exactly is our authority to prevent that, even if it was possible?RRB

James S. Brady Press Briefing Room
3:33 P.M. EST
MS. PSAKI: Hi, everyone. Happy Wednesday. Are we Wednesday? Yes. Okay. We have a graphic here today because it’s been awhile since we’ve had a graphic, so I wanted to deliver on that.
So, as you all know, we announced our first tranche of sanctions in less — less than a day after the beginning of the invasion, with Allies and partners from the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
And what I — we wanted to provide to all of you today is an overview of what we’re seeing as an impact on the Russian economy. Obviously, the bite of these sanctions has not taken place yet, so this is largely in anticipation.
So, let me just go through a couple of these points:
Borrowing costs for the Russian government has spiked to almost 11 percent — highest since 2015.
Foreign investors are fleeing Russia.
The Ruble is trading at its weakest level since November 2020 — one of the weakest currencies in the world.
In response to inflation risk, the Russian Central Bank has hiked rates eight times in the past year to 9.5 percent.
And Bloomberg reported — just going to cite Bloomberg there — that “The fortunes of Russia’s super-rich have tumbled $32 billion this year, with the escalating conflict in Ukraine poised to make that wealth destruction much larger.”
So, as I started off saying, this is before the bite even takes place. And this is just after the beginning. I mean, we’ve only had, obviously, a first tranche here. But it’s — this is a vicious feedback loop that will get more severe if Putin doesn’t escalate [deescalate].
So, as he’s looking at the impact on his own economy, on his rich and wealthy oligarch friends, and on the people of Russia, these are the facts, regardless of what you’re hearing from the Kremlin, about the impact.
Also, I just wanted to note, because I know that we put out these sanctions when a lot was happening yesterday — just wanted to give you a little bit more detail of them. Obviously, you, hopefully, have seen the announcement and the statement from the President about Nord Stream 2. We can come back to that, but that is an additional step today.
And also, on banks and the announcement we made yesterday, what we did was we used our most powerful sanctions tool to target two major state-owned Russian banks for the first time; that is the significance. These banks can no longer — what it means is they can no longer make any transactions with the United States or Europe, and their assets in the financial system will be frozen.
They are the glorified piggybanks — some of the glorified piggybanks for the Kremlin, including one of them which is a key financial institution where — where support — military finances has been held. And this will have a significant impact on Russian leadership and the inner circle because they’re state-owned control — banks controlled by them.
This is so good. TY RRB.
Me fucking with the alky is like Putin fucking with Slow Joe.
Alky & Slow Joe are mental cripples.
I just want to know how we were appointed king of the fucking planet. Every sovereign nation on this earth has a fundamental right to self-determination and pursuit of their own national self-interest.
Now, as we learned during the Cuba Missile Crisis, if an adversary like Russia wants to park nukes 90 miles off the coast of the US, yeah, we should have something to say about that.
Same rules apply with Russia - Ukraine.
Russia's demands are known:
The Ukraine must recognize Crimea and Sevastopol as Russian territory
The Ukraine must officially renounce joining NATO
The Ukraine must negotiate a settlement with the LDNR Republics
The Ukraine must be demilitarized and declared neutral
So, like the Cuban Missile Crisis Russia has concerns in their backyard just as we had in ours back in the 60's.
If we're honest, their concerns now are just as valid as our concerns were back then.
And of course the alky cannot address any of this without an alky-lanche of plagiarisms, completely irrelevant to the conversation we SHOULD be having.

Navalny Condemns the Ukraine Invasion
February 24, 2022 at 8:41 am EST By Taegan Goddard 22 Comments
“Aleksei Navalny, the jailed Russian opposition politician, used a court hearing on Thursday to condemn President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” the New York Times reports.
Said Navalny: “The war with Ukraine has been unleashed to cover up the robbery of Russian citizens and divert their attention away from the country’s internal problems, from the degradation of its economy.”
AMEN! AS I'VE BEEN SAYING!
BUT
Trump Calls Putin’s Invasion of Ukraine Smart
The Ukraine's are not going to surrender to the Russian empire.
In his Thursday morning speech, Putin said that the operation would lead to the “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.”
It’s a promise that Russia is focused on regime change — a political end, the outcome of which will rely on whether it sticks. Will Ukrainians accept whatever Russia imposes, or revolt?
“If you’re the Russians, you want this in a certain sense to be as painful as possible for the Ukrainian government and military but least for the people themselves,” Edmonds said. “In a certain sense, they want to be seen as the saviors that came in.”
Zelensky said in a statement posted online that the attack was an assault on his control of the government, and on the country’s independence. Reports online appear to show civilian casualties in the cities of Uman and Kharkiv.
“Ukraine is defending itself and will not give up its freedom, no matter what Moscow thinks,” Zelensky said. “For Ukrainians, independence and the right to live on their land according to their will is the highest value.”
We will provide weapons and other things including technology support that might make it difficult for the Russians.

GOP Leaders Try to Ignore Trump on Ukraine

“An extraordinary situation has unfolded in recent days as Trump has lashed out at Biden and praised Putin.
"There’s nothing like this in U.S. history as far as we can remember.
"The Republican leadership and senior ranks of the party have basically ignored Trump on this issue, and they’ll continue to do so.
“Yet this could become a serious problem within the GOP the longer this situation goes on. The November elections are less than nine months away. Republicans already blame Biden for provoking the Ukraine invasion by botching the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan last year.
Can they back Biden now on Ukraine while the leader of their party – and Trump is the leader – rails against the president? What will this mean for Trump’s own future?”

Putin’s Announcement of War Recorded Three Days Ago

“There is no purgatory for war criminals. They go straight to hell, ambassador.”
— Ukraine’s UN ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya, speaking to his Russian counterpart.
$100 oil and a complete and utter disregard for the security and sovereignty of the US southern border, while we fret about the security and sovereignty of Ukraine's border.
There could be no dumber as less coherent position to take on this particular issue, so I guess we're fortunate to have a dumb fuck and incoherent leader such as Joey Sprinkles at the helm.
The very best thing that we could do to inflict a maximum amount of pain on Putin is American energy independence, positioning us to export NG to keep Europe warm. Instead we enable Putin to freeze Europe to death.
Manhattan prosecutors leading Trump Organization probe resign
Two prosecutors heading the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office’s probe into the Trump Organization called it quits on Wednesday — throwing the case into question.
The DA’s office confirmed the resignations of Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne.
A source told The Post that the prosecutors jointly stepped down, stressing that the coordinated nature of the departures was a sign of intense frustration with the direction of the case.
“We are grateful for their service,” DA spokeswoman Danielle Filson said in a statement. She declined to comment further, saying the probe is ongoing.
The investigation into former President Donald Trump was launched in 2018 under then-DA Cyrus Vance, who charged the Trump Organization and its longtime chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg with tax fraud last June.

Russian Stock Market Plunges
February 24, 2022 at 10:21 am EST By Taegan Goddard 22 Comments
“Russia’s stock market dropped at a record-breaking pace and the ruble plunged after Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine,” the Financial Times reports.
DON'T BLAME VLADIMIR!
BLAME BIDEN!
A well written about how the President has to do.
The United States should also continue to make public its intelligence that sheds light on Russian intentions to spoil surprises. Traditional and social media with the potential to reach Russian journalists and civil society should counter the Kremlin’s narrative. And images of what is taking place inside Ukraine should reach the world, leaving no doubt about the toll in innocent lives caused by Mr. Putin’s adventurism.
On a more strategic level, the United States should try to build some distance between China and Russia. That won’t happen overnight, but the Biden administration should step up its private diplomacy with China, highlighting the economic and strategic risks — including financial punishment and increasing anti-China sentiment in the West — of it being closely associated with an aggressive Russia. Now would also be a good time to restart a high-level strategic dialogue with China and search for issues, on Afghanistan, say, and climate change, where the two governments might cooperate.
On the international stage, governments everywhere ought to be discouraged from following Russia’s lead in recognizing the independence of the two Ukrainian regions. And Ukraine and its friends should make their case not just to the United Nations Security Council but also to the General Assembly, where Russia has no veto. What’s more, European governments need to prepare their publics for major increases in refugees fleeing Ukraine and make the case for why they must be supported. And citizens of both Europe and the United States need to be warned about the potential for cyberattacks and energy shortages. Facing down Russia will not be painless.
But the history of wars of choice offers some useful perspective. While many start well, most — particularly those that are ambitious — end badly. Intervening countries tend to underestimate the difficulty of prevailing or of translating battlefield successes into lasting gains. Gradually, those at home tend to grow weary of shouldering the mounting costs tied to the pursuit of elusive objectives. The Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan, which began in 1979, dragged on for a decade and badly damaged the state’s authority, is a case in point.
Yet Mr. Putin is determined to upend European stability. Like others before him, he is initiating a war of choice in the belief that the benefits will outweigh the costs. It is up to the United States and its partners to prove he got his calculations badly wrong.
Remember what happened to the Soviet Union war in Afghanistan it lead to the death of The Soviet Union Empire at the end of the cold war era!
Remember that President George HW Bush cheered the end of The Soviet Union?
If Ukraine ends the same way, President Biden will probably get the Nobel Peace Prize nomination...and maybe go down in history as the most successful President in history.
Whatever I predicted, the salient points remain:
First: Whatever Russia decides to do vis a vis Ukraine is absolutely NOT in our strategic interest. Period. That said, it was Bill Clinton who guaranteed Ukrainian territorial integrity if they gave up their former Soviet-era nukes that remained on their territory post the 1991 break up. And it was Barack Hussein Obama -"mmm-mmm-MMM!" - who sat on his hands as Russia gobbled up the Crimea and totally shit all over our credibility in the international community to friend and foe alike.
Second: Every American foe was put in their place, and our shitty so-called allies got read the riot act to straighten up and fly right, between 1/20/17 and 1/20/21 - - with the possible exception of the greatest foe we ever have faced in our history: our own fellow citizens who have had a hard on to destroy us from within.
That said, it is particularly rage-inducing to hear the comments from that quarter of the Jimmy Carter Memorial Peanut Gallery on how this is somehow the fault of Donald Trump. It is axiomatic that whenever there is a crisis somewhere in the world, a big factor in the equation is the dissembling and fumbling of a Democrat administration coupled with the perpetual stupidity of the Ivy League self-anointed "elite" who infect Foggy Bottom and the foreign policy think tanks like chronic malignant anal warts.

Trump Planned to Pull Out of NATO

An excerpt from I Alone Can Fix It by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker suggests what might have been:
“In fact, Trump had privately indicated that he would seek to withdraw from NATO and to blow up the U.S. alliance with South Korea, should he win reelection. When those alliances had come up in meetings with Esper and other top aides, some advisers warned Trump that shredding them before the election would be politically dangerous.”
Said Trump:

Kremlin moves to arrest Russians protesting Ukraine invasion: report
Matthew Chapman
February 24, 2022
On Thursday, The Daily Beast reported that the Kremlin is facing some internal anger as Russian citizens and activists rise up to protest the invasion of Ukraine — and is responding with fierce crackdowns to arrest and intimidate dissidents.
"Protesters who staged demonstrations against the war in cities including Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, and Moscow were quickly detained," reported Allison Quinn. "Marina Litvinovich, a well-known human rights activist, posted a video on social media calling for Russians to take to the streets and protest the assault on Ukraine — but she was arrested outside her home in Moscow a short time later, according to multiple local reports. Apparently fearing further demonstrations, numerous Russian law enforcement agencies, including the powerful Investigative Committee and the Interior Ministry, discouraged citizens from taking part in 'unsanctioned' protests."
According to the report, some Russians are undeterred by the threats, with 100 municipal deputies around the country signing a letter condemning the invasion as an "unparalleled atrocity."

What America Could Have Done to Protect Ukraine
February 24, 2022 at 11:00 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment
Alexander Vindman:
“After Ukraine became independent and forfeited the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal, the West could have loosened the purse strings to guarantee the country’s economic independence. After the 2004 Orange Revolution, the West could have embraced Ukraine’s Western aspirations, accelerated an EU Association Agreement and a NATO Membership Action Plan, and driven domestic transformation to shield Europe’s largest country from nascent Russian revanchism.
"After the 2014 Revolution of Dignity, the West could have invested in a strategic security partnership with Ukraine that would have made the costs of a Russian offensive prohibitively high. Yet none of this came to pass.
“Instead, for two decades, the U.S. entertained illusions about what might be accomplished with Russia, a reluctant partner, while remaining oblivious to opportunities in Ukraine, a far more willing one. In its relationship with Russia, the U.S. had limited prospects of achieving any objectives outside of arms control, whereas with Ukraine it might have successfully influenced regional development.”
That's a handsome picture, Rev.
Where did you get it?
Vindman.
Tell that fat fucking traitor to pack his shit and head home to Ukraine and defend his opinion by picking up a rifle.

Hey, miserable small minded rrb ("republican rat bastard" -- self designation), you want to send this Ukrainian back to Ukraine?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n47yP1yfJWQ
Between the lines: It turns out Putin's buildup was no feint. And the warnings from the White House were spot on.
President Biden said after the invasion began that Putin's "premeditated war ... will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering."U.S. intelligence had warned a large-scale invasion "could leave up to 50,000 civilians killed or wounded, decapitate the government in Kyiv within two days, and launch a humanitarian crisis with up to 5 million refugees fleeing the resulting chaos," The Washington Post reported Feb. 5.
What they're saying: Ukraine has severed diplomatic relations with Russia and is calling on all citizens to take up arms to defend the country against a full-scale invasion.
"Russia treacherously attacked our state in the morning, as Nazi Germany did in World War II years," Zelenskyy tweeted."As of today, our countries are on different sides of world history. Russia has embarked on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself and won't give up its freedom no matter what Moscow thinks."
We will prevail.
The invasion of Ukraine will probably be the worst decision since Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th in 1941.
I have met a couple veterans who were there.
She came to America at age four and began playing violin at age eight.
Her mother is Russian, her father Ukrainian, and they speak English, Russian, and Ukrainian. I think they are citizens and she is now 14.

James, the truthers want Russia to win the invasion, because they want to defeat the Democrats.
They don't care about anyone else but Republicans and Donald Trump.
They don't care about the thousands of lives in Ukraine or even American troops.
This is the most dangerous situation since 1776.
It’s hard to keep from laughing at the leaders who created this mess to curry favor, votes and money from the Greens. Take, for example, German chancellor Olaf Scholz whose contribution to the fight was halting the certification of the Nord Stream 2 Baltic gas pipeline. I’d put my money on the halt being temporary. Germany already gets half its gas from Russia. Germans are facing record energy prices and the government is tapping its treasury to ease consumer pressure.
Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president could not restrain himself. “Welcome to the new world where Europeans will soon have to pay 2,000 euros per thousand cubic meters.” Were I a friend of Chancellor Scholz I’d whisper in his ear a suggestion from Andrew A Michta, that the best way to show Putin you mean business is not to make an unlikely threat but rather to halt the plan to shut down its three remaining nuclear reactors in Emsland, Isar and Neckarwestheim that the post-Merkel Germans have foolishly scheduled to shut down this year. Much of the same advice should be given to the Biden administration—undo the restrictions you are forcing on conventional energy production if you want to show you are serious.
Of course, no one would consider this administration serious.
https://the-pipeline.org/how-the-greens-brought-war-to-ukraine/
If we were serious we would re-start full-on US energy production. That would send a very clear message to Putin. But it's impossible to be serious with ann imbecile at the helm.
Biden is ENABLING Putin at this point. That is a demonstrable FACT.
btw has Joe announced a date for when he will get the remaining Americans out of Afghanistan yet ?
Or does he plan to just forget about them or just leave them behind?
Too bad he didn't give all that military equipment to Ukraine instead of the Taliban
