Could Biden have picked a dumber time to announce is USSC pick?

Biden might be looking to pick a fight on this one, but probably won't get much

This was not who GOP and moderates wanted
"I’m proud to announce that I am nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court," Biden wrote in a Friday morning tweet confirming his pick. "Currently serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, she is one of our nation’s brightest legal minds and will be an exceptional Justice."

To be clear, on paper Jackson or Brown Jackson or Ketanji as it were was the highest qualified candidate available having sat on a U.S. Court of Appeals. Of course she was nominated for that court just a few months ago by Biden himself and has only sat on that court for a brief time. Her nomination at that time garnered some criticism for some many unusual rulings that were later struck down by higher courts. Ultimately she was confirmed with 53 votes. One can assume she will get a similar amount of votes this time around.

Funny how you can go from narrowing being approved to be at the appellate court level just a few months ago to now being the best qualified candidate in the country to fill the most important position in the entire legal community. That being said, the other options was a District Court Judge (who was favored by moderates and some GOP members) and another candidate who was still serving at the State level. Pretty slim pickings when you narrow your scope down to only 2% of the available candidates.

Jackson was a national oratory champion and student body president in high school and then graduated from Harvard University and Harvard Law School. She was a Supreme Court law clerk for Breyer, who once described her as “great, brilliant, decent, with a mix of common sense and thoughtfulness.”

She said that Presidents and not kings.

And she wants to reduce or eliminate drug legalization. Because the vast majority of people who are arrested for even marijuana use are African American men.

You know how smart she is.. best student in high school and then

Harvard!

It's not affirmative action.

She is not a left wing lawyer.

And prescient matters to conservative Republicans.

Even tho she is a radical vagina, wrapped in black skin, she should be confirmed. She doesn't change the make up of the court.

She won't change the Court system. But I suspect that Chief Justice Roberts and her will agree on most important issue like voting rights..

Brandon got fucking ROLLED;

America is BACK: Brandon's Big Plan for Stopping Russia From Invading Was to BEG CHINA TO PRESSURE RUSSIA;

Instead of Helping Brandon, China Betrayed Him and Told Russia All About His Undignified Groveling

Actually, this wouldn't fit in the headline: Brandon shared secret intelligence with China to prove Russia was about to invade.

China showed how much it Feared and Respected Brandon by immediately giving that US intelligence to Russia.

America is Back, baby!

NYT:

"Over three months, senior Biden administration officials held half a dozen urgent meetings with top Chinese officials in which the Americans presented intelligence showing Russia's troop buildup around Ukraine and beseeched the Chinese to tell Russia not to invade, according to U.S. officials.

Each time, the Chinese officials, including the foreign minister and the ambassador to the United States, rebuffed the Americans, saying they did not think an invasion was in the works. After one diplomatic exchange in December, U.S. officials got intelligence showing Beijing had shared the information with Moscow, telling the Russians that the United States was trying to sow discord -- and that China would not try to impede Russian plans and actions, the officials said.

The previously unreported talks between American and Chinese officials show how the Biden administration tried to use intelligence findings and diplomacy to persuade a superpower it views as a growing adversary to stop the invasion of Ukraine, and how that nation, led by President Xi Jinping, persistently sided with Russia even as the evidence of Moscow's plans for a military offensive grew over the winter.

Democrats and their liberal allies portrayed Judge Jackson, a federal judge since 2013, as an impeccable pick for the court who would provide valuable experience as a former public defender and, in the words of Senator Chuck Schumer, the New York Democrat and majority leader, by “ensuring the Supreme Court reflects the nation as a whole.”

A public defender is a difficult task.

Because the defendant is not guilty until conviction by a jury of her peers.

They have to defend people they know is guilty.

Or unfortunately too often race matters.

She will get confirmed by a biparty majority vote...

And again political reasons, it will motivate minority voters towards the Democrats.

When the qualifications are exclusive to being black and sporting a vagina and have absolutely nothing to do with excellence in jurisprudence it's really not "funny" at all.

It's affirmative action by definition straight up, and any resistance to her nomination/confirmation will be met with cries of "RAY-CISM!!!!!!!!!!"

The lifeblood of leftism these days is identity politics.

This checks that box.

Sure it will alky.

Ask any minority voter the most fundamental question(s) about the USSC and see the responses you get.

So yeah, this will really REALLY motivate those voters.

Stick to plagiarizing the opinions of others.

Yours suck.

HERE IS WHY Biden Announced His Supreme Court Pick Today
February 25, 2022 at 2:21 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 27 Comments

New York Times:
“The White House decided to go ahead with the announcement — which the president had promised by the end of the month — even though news of the war raging in Ukraine is dominating cable television and internet news sites.

“Officials hope that the historic nature of the step, nominating the first Black woman to the court, will allow the news to break through and attract attention this weekend, though they acknowledge the importance of the war coverage as well.

"Announcing his choice now allows Mr. Biden to highlight her nomination during his State of the Union Address on Tuesday.”

Also of note, from Politico:
“It is two years to the day that then-candidate Biden announced on the South Carolina debate stage that he was going to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court.”

BIPARTISAN SUPPORT for Sanctions Against Russia
February 25, 2022 at 2:10 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 65 Comments

“A large and bipartisan majority of Americans supports economic sanctions on Russia for its military invasion of Ukraine, as public antipathy toward Russia climbs to Cold War levels,” according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

“But while the invasion has produced a bipartisan and sharply negative consensus about Russia, it has not eliminated partisan divisions about President Biden. Overall, the president receives negative marks for handling the situation, with 33% approving and 47% disapproving, while another 20% have no opinion.”

“About half of the public doubts Biden’s ability to handle a crisis and says U.S. leadership in the world has ‘gotten weaker’ during his presidency, levels similar to former president Trump’s ratings while he was in office.”

OH MY! TRUMP GOT CRITICIZED MUCH THE SAME AS BIDEN IS BEING CRITICIZED!

“Ukraine claims it’s killed almost 3,000 Russian soldiers in the first 36 hours of the invasion. As ever, you have to take these things with a grain of salt, but anything even remotely close to that number would be stunning – the US lost 4,431 in two decades in Iraq.”

However, a warning from the Associated Press:
“In the fog of war, it was unclear how much of Ukraine remains under Ukrainian control and how much or little Russian forces have seized.”

Accurate U.S. Intelligence Gave Biden Big Advantages
February 25, 2022 at 3:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 33 Comments

New York Times:
“The success of American intelligence in reading Mr. Putin and stripping away any element of surprise is one of the most striking developments of the crisis and has had substantial implications as the conflict has exploded into bloodshed.

“It was not enough in the end to deter Mr. Putin from carrying out the broad assault that got underway early on Thursday.

“But the depth and quality of the American intelligence strengthened President Biden’s hand in bringing the trans-Atlantic alliance into a unified front against Moscow. It provided time to prepare waves of sanctions and other steps
to impose a cost on Russia,
dispatch troops to bolster NATO allies
and move Americans out of harm’s way.”

It's not an advantage is you don't work it as such.

You really are a POS, Ch. Biden enraged Putin with the way his plans, which he thought were hidden, were throughly known to us ahead of time, forcing Putin repeatedly to go on record and lie before all the world about his intentions.

You guys used to criticize Biden because he kept insisting that the Russians WERE going to invade, no matter how many times Putin denied it.

Biden insisted because he had the goods on Putin, the information.

Just keep rooting for the enemy.

You have shown here how much of a sell-out you are to a brand of right wing fanaticism so narrow in its outlook that you cannot see what should be obvious to any thinking person:

Yours is the kind of cowardice that has refused to stand up to Trump and call his lies what they really are and this has led our nation to a point where our internal enemies may now be even more dangerous than our external enemies.

Thanks. Thanks for being such a poor conservative, such a poor Republican, such a poor American.

Her labor-friendly rulings as a judge have drawn praise from liberal groups. She also worked on the U.S. Sentencing Commission, the agency that develops federal sentencing policy, during the Obama administration, and voted to allow thousands of federal inmates serving time for crack-related crimes to get their long sentences reduced.

Because if you are a “libertarian” who professes to find comity with the left when it comes to nonviolent drug offenses, it will again be hard to find a judicial candidate better positioned on that issue than Judge Jackson.

Not that I expect Jackson to receive a ton of conservative support. White conservatives will make ugly and baseless attacks on her credentials and intelligence, and throw around whatever other muck passes for legal analysis on white-wing television these days. But make no mistake, the reason conservatives will be against Jackson (beyond their racism) is her rulings against the Trump administration and in favor of democratic self-government.

Obama nominated Jackson to the District Court for the District of Columbia in 2012. Biden nominated her to the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2020. And it’s on the D.C. Circuit that Judge Jackson has done justice upon the Trump administration and its cronies. In Committee on the Judiciary v. McGahn, Jackson ruled against former White House counsel Don McGahn’s scheme to evade a congressional subpoena for the testimony he gave to former special counsel Robert Mueller. In Campaign for Accountability v. DOJ, Jackson ruled against another Trump administration gambit to shield documents from FOIA requests. And in Trump v. Thompson, just this past December, Jackson joined in an opinion ruling against Trump’s cockamamie attempt to use executive privilege to shield documents from the January 6 Congressional Committee, a ruling that was affirmed by the Supreme Court 8-1.

It will be fun watching Senate Judiciary member and insurrectionist OnlyFan Josh Hawley question Jackson during her confirmation hearing, and since you are an Insurrectionist, despite her intelligence, you think she is another affirmative action choice like Vice President Harris .
