How bad has it gotten?

Liberals now accusing Trump of flushing secret documents down the toilet?

WELL, IF TRUE, IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE "A BIG DEAL" AS IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO RECOVER DOCUMENTS FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET.

IF it is true that "staff in the White House residence periodically discovered wads of printed paper clogging a toilet — and believed the president had flushed pieces of paper” -- would those staff now be willing to talk? Will Trump shout, "FAKE STAFF! FAKE NEWS!!!????"

How do you know you are a conspiracy theorists whose gone off the deep end? When you see lack of evidence of the conspiracy you are pushing as little more than proof of a cover up.

In this example, the conspiracy theory has the built in trigger that doesn't allow for any actual knowledge of what it was that might have been flushed down a toilet, providing additional fodder for those weak minded people who love to fall for this sort of thing. I mean, it could have been anything but certainly not nothing.

Apparently the dagger that finally brings down Trump will be a random member of a toilet cleaning crew who possibly pulled a wadded up piece of paper out of a toilet and determined that it was a top secret document that proves Donald Trump actually "did" conspire with Vladimir Putin to steal the 2016 election.

All they need to do is find that particular member of the toilet cleaning crew, put them on the stand, have them deliver the previously wadded up secret document for all to witness, and what the left has been saying about Trump all along can finally be proven.

Pass the tin foil. They need more hats!

The only way to drain the swamp is to Nominate Senator Rand Paul for the Majority Leader in the Senate.

And Get rid of McCarthy and again like the evil Democrats, impeach Sleepy Joe Biden and Kumala Harris.

But even before, that appoint Donald Trump as The Speaker of House of representatives.

One year from today we will prevail and Make America Great Again

It is documented that he was the most prolific liar in history when he was the President.

The alky's little box needs to be wallpapered with tin foil at this point.

Alky -

I ask you the same thing I asked the pederast earlier today -

I'm unclear as to why your team is so completely obsessed with Trump.

You beat him in 2020 with 81 MILLION VOTES in the most secure election in the history of the known universe, yet you're working overtime to get him disqualified from running again so your stellar candidate won't have to face the same guy he beat so handily last time.

Personally I think it would be wildly amusing of Trump ran again and won in 2024. But if I "really" want to see a GOP President in 2024 I am probably rooting for someone else.

That being said, anyone that the GOP puts up there will be demonized by the left. Just look what they did to John "old racist angry man" McCain or Mitt "mean white supremacist religious zealot" Romney. They hated Bush and used to associate him with a monkey. Reagan was one of the most hated figures by the left.

Fucking Jesus Christ himself could rise back from the dead with actual proof he is the son of god and if he ran for President as a Republican, CNN would put together stories of how he slept with whores, took advantage of fishermen, and drank too much wine.

I'll never forget the day, it was the very first time I took the time to scroll deep into the alky Twitter feed. It was morbidly fascinating, and I truly felt like I was peering straight into the face of a severe mental illness, but from a safe vantage point. I scrolled and read and scrolled and read...

...and there it was.

The alky's bank account info. All of it. Account number, account name, PIN/Password, the whole fucking shootin' match. I thought "No fucking way. There's simply no fucking way that anyone, even the alky, would be stupid enough to post that for all to read." But there it was, publicly posted for all to see. I thought, OK, I can see someone being dumb enough to think they were communicating with a bank rep, and maybe, just maybe, there are people out there dumb enough to send the info via DM. But no, not the alky. The alky posted it out there for all the world to see.

That was the day I was convinced the alky is so fucked in the head, he's past the point of no return. And I think it was shortly thereafter we all learned that the alky was locked down in a nursing home/looney bin.

So here we are.

Scott, even Powerline doesn't agree with you,

As with Omarosa, I’m skeptical of any anti-Trump assertions by Haberman. (I’m not familiar with Jacobs’ work.) On the other hand, I wouldn’t put it past Trump to destroy documents in the way she describes.

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly might have felt the same way. According to the New York Times, he tried to stop classified documents from being taken to the residence because he was concerned about what Trump might do with them and how it might jeopardize national security.

As for clogged toilets, Haberman’s reporting can, in theory, be confirmed or dismissed based on what members of White House residence staff and/or the engineer who fixed the toilet say. Even if confirmed, this would leave open, in theory, the question of who flushed the documents down the toilet and the question of whether the documents were classified. "It was just reported that classified documents !"

Even if they weren’t classified, Trump was barred from destroying them. Every document he touches as president must be retained. However, it would still be worth knowing whether or not the material was classified. The answer, I imagine, would have legal implications.

The Archives has asked the Justice Department to investigate Trump’s handling of presidential records. If the DOJ decides to investigate, there will be no shortage of questions to explore.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Powerline and CNN agreed.

I'm not going to say Kerry in a landslide but.

On Thursday's edition of CNN's "The Situation Room," chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said the Justice Department may soon be forced to investigate the alleged mishandling of classified information by former President Donald Trump on his way out of the White House.

"We're getting to the point — at what point does this add up to something the Justice Department has no choice but to do?" asked anchor Jim Acosta. "The former president says it is no big deal, but when you look at all of this, gaps in call logs, top secret documents at Mar-a-Lago, at what point does it amount to obstruction of justice?"

Go ahead and say alky

C.H. Truth said...

I am just spitballing it here, but...

Wouldn't that would be at the point where there is some sort of Justice that is being obstructed?

Where there is an actual known legitimate crime or investigation of a crime going on where a prosecutor can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone destroyed evidence of that crime or otherwise destroyed evidence that was requested by an investigator?

You know... like what the Clintons used to do? Remember when all those subpoenaed white-water documents were lost and then found years later after the investigation had passed or when Hillary took hammers to her cell phones so that nothing could be recovered?

Again... it would be obstruction if someone could prove three things:

1) That Trump (not someone else) actually flushed paper down the toilet. Do they got a toilet cam we could go back and watch?

2) That the papers were actually Government documents, not just paper with some sort of printing on it? Did they recover these documents?

3) That the papers would actually be relevant to some sort of investigation and that they were destroyed to keep the paper from the investigators? Was any of Trump's White House records subpoenaed and not turned over back then?

Now if the first two (but not the last) could be proven, then there are probably some laws about retention that could be relevant. But "obstruction of Justice" is not one of those laws.

Hint: Whenever you hear some CNN legal analyst talking to the 237 people still watching them, and demanding that Trump must have broke some "generic" law like "treason" or "obstruction" - this is because they either cannot pin the actions on any actual real statute or they simply have no clue what they believe he actually did.

HISTORY DOWN THE TOILET?

In my post last night about charges that Donald Trump violated federal document retention requirements, I wrote: “For what it’s worth, [Omarosa] Manigault Newman says she once saw Trump tear up a note and eat it. That’s one way to stymie those pesky staffers.” By saying “for what it’s worth,” I indicated my skepticism about this claim.

My skepticism (which isn’t the same thing as outright disbelief) is based not just on questions about Manigault Newman’s reliability. It’s also based on Trump’s reputation as a germaphobe. Omarosa understood this problem with her account. She says she was surprised to see Trump swallow the note, given his germaphobia.

A good way to make documents disappear without eating them is to use the toilet. This method takes pesky White House staffers out of the loop without exposing the president to germs.

The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman says that staff at the White House residence would sometimes find the toilet clogged. The engineer called in to fix the toilet would discover wads of clumped up wet, printed paper. White House reporter Jennifer Jacobs of Bloomberg backs up this claim.

Apparently, it will be one of the revelations in Haberman’s upcoming book on the Trump presidency.

As with Omarosa, I’m skeptical of any anti-Trump assertions by Haberman. (I’m not familiar with Jacobs’ work.) On the other hand, I wouldn’t put it past Trump to destroy documents in the way she describes.

Well Roger... how about this?

What we have is an unsubstantiated report third hand report of the White House toilet being clogged and suddenly it's treason or obstruction of Justice... and you clowns are banging your head against the wall again! What I do find amusing is like Lucy continuously pulling the football out from Charlie Brown over and over and over and over... the left literally falls head first into EVERY SINGLE RUMOR no matter how stupid or unsubstantiated it is.

Do you actually realize how long this has been going on?

According to some people, he was going to be arrested for election fraud before he even took office. Never get sworn in according to many. Certainly he would be arrested before he made it to a year. 24th Amendment was always just around the corner. Multiple people in the Administration would be moving forward with proof of incompetency any day now. Opps we now have a Special Counsel. He has no chance. We have this investigation and then that investigation. Impeach him and he the public will demand he leave. Anyways charges are just around the corner.

Oh... and do you remember that looooooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggg list of people who just any day now were going to turn on Trump and provide all of that evidence of whatever crime it was that he committed that particular day? Amazing how all of those people stuck by the criminal, even Paul Manafort who apparently had so much loyalty working for him for a couple of months that he was willing to spend much of the rest of his life in jail, rather than turn over the goods.

Well, you argued... he was protected as President! As a private citizen he if fair game and won't last a month! Now here we are, over a year after he left office. The New York Prosecutor who has had his Financial records for how long (more than year) retired without charging him. The SDNY has now flipped everything to a civil investigation against Trump org. We have a fake Grand Jury in Fulton county because the adults won't create a real one. The FBI and DOJ never even thought about charging him for anything regarding Jan 6th, but over 13 months later you still believe the Pelosi political investigation will spell the doom!

And here we are, Roger... 66 months later and you are talking about how he is now going down for flushing stuff down the toilet???

Will Trump be prosecuted for violating document retention requirements and/or illegally possessing classified documents (assuming he did not timely declassify them). It’s too early to say, but my guess is, probably not. According to the Post:

Substantiating a criminal case against Trump — and perhaps even launching a criminal investigation — could be difficult. Legal experts and analysts have noted that the National Archives lacks a real enforcement mechanism, and all recent administrations have had some violations of federal records laws — most often involving the use of unofficial email and telephone accounts.

I guess. But have other presidents made it a practice to tear up and attempt to discard documents they were legally required to retain? Have they taken papers that document their dealings with a major foreign adversary to their residence after leaving office? Not that I know of.

During the 2016 campaign, Ted Cruz spoke of Trump’s troubled relationship with the truth. (Later in the campaign, he was more blunt about this.) Trump had already demonstrated the troubled nature of that relationship before Cruz brought it up, and he has demonstrated it many times since.

Documents have a close relationship with the truth. Sometimes they are the truth. Other times they are instrumental in determining what the truth is.

Thus, we shouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that Trump has a troubled relationship with documents, and trouble meeting legal requirements pertaining to their retention.

Liz Cheney

Feb. 10, 2022 1:10 pm ET

Former Vice President Mike Pence officiates as the House and Senate convenes to confirm the 2020 electoral votes in Washington, Jan. 6, 2021.

PHOTO: POOL NEW/REUTERS

I keep on my desk a copy of the oath my great-great-grandfather signed when he re-enlisted in the Union Army in 1863. Like the oath given by all those who serve in government and every member of our armed forces, Samuel Fletcher Cheney swore to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.” Generations of Americans have sworn that same oath and given their lives to defend the Constitution and our nation.

Last week, former Vice President Mike Pence spoke about the events of Jan. 6, 2021. President Trump was “wrong,” he said, to insist that Mr. Pence or any vice president could “overturn” the election by refusing to count certified slates of electoral votes. That notion was, as Mr. Pence said, “un-American.” What Mr. Trump had insisted that Mr. Pence do on Jan. 6 was not only un-American, it was unconstitutional and illegal.

Article II and the 12th Amendment govern how the nation selects the president. Congress doesn’t select the president; the states do. Every state in the union now selects a presidential candidate through a popular vote. And every state identifies the manner in which disputes regarding the election are addressed under state law. Those laws set forth a process for challenging an election when concerns arise, including potential recounts or audits and an opportunity to litigate disputed issues in court. When courts have resolved any election challenges, and the election result has been certified by the governor of a state, the election is over. That is the rule of law.

The 12th Amendment also leaves little doubt that Congress must count the certified electoral votes it receives from the states: “The president of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted. The person having the greatest number of votes for president, shall be the president.” This provision doesn’t say, for example, Congress must count certified electoral votes unless it has concerns about fraud allegations, or unless it disagrees with the outcome of state or federal court litigation. And the vice president, as president of the Senate presiding over the count, can’t simply refuse to count a state’s certified slate of electoral votes—either under the Constitution or under the Electoral Count Act of 1887.

Republicans used to advocate fidelity to the rule of law and the plain text of the Constitution. In 2020, Mr. Trump convinced many to abandon those principles. He falsely claimed that the election was stolen from him because of widespread fraud. While some degree of fraud occurs in every election, there was no evidence of fraud on a scale that could have changed this one. As the Select Committee will demonstrate in hearings later this year, no foreign power corrupted America’s voting machines, and no massive secret fraud changed the election outcome.

Roger Amick said...

Almost all members of Congress know this—although many lack the courage to say it out loud. Mr. Trump knew it too, from his own campaign officials, from his own appointees at the Justice Department, and from the dozens of lawsuits he lost. Yet, Mr. Trump ignored the rulings of the courts and launched a massive campaign to mislead the public. Our hearings will show that these falsehoods provoked the violence on Jan. 6. Mr. Trump’s lawyers have begun to pay the price for spreading these lies. For example, Rudy Giuliani’s license to practice law has been suspended because he “communicated demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump, ” in the words of a New York appellate court.

The Jan. 6 investigation isn’t only about the inexcusable violence of that day: It is also about fidelity to the Constitution and the rule of law, and whether elected representatives believe in those things or not. One member of the House Freedom Caucus warned the White House in the days before Jan. 6 that the president’s plans would drive “a stake in the heart of the federal republic.” That was exactly right.

Those who do not wish the truth of Jan. 6 to come out have predictably resorted to attacking the process—claiming it is tainted and political. Our hearings will show this charge to be wrong. We are focused on facts, not rhetoric, and we will present those facts without exaggeration, no matter what criticism we face. My friend the late Charles Krauthammer once said: “The lesson of our history is that the task of merely maintaining strong and sturdy the structures of a constitutional order is unending, the continuing and ceaseless work of every generation.” Every generation of Americans has fulfilled its duty to support and defend the Constitution. That responsibility now falls to us.

Ms. Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, is a U.S. representative and vice chair of the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.

Some Documents Trump Took Were ‘Top Secret’
February 10, 2022 at 5:27 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 358 Comments

Trump on Thursday reacted to reports of White House documents being seized from Mar-a-Lago, writing in a statement that the archives “openly and willingly arranged” the transfer of “boxes that contained letters, records, newspapers, magazines, and various articles” with him.

“The media’s characterization of my relationship with NARA is Fake News. It was exactly the opposite! It was a great honor to work with NARA to help formally preserve the Trump Legacy,” the former president added.

He said the documents were handed over “easily and without conflict and on a very friendly basis,” arguing that the situation was “viewed as routine and ‘no big deal.’”

He also denounced a story from New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman’s new book, which said White House staffers regularly discovered that ripped-up printed papers were clogging a toilet in the presidential residence when Trump was in office.

Axios reported on the excerpt from Haberman’s book, which is titled “Confidence Man” and set to publish in October.

Trump called the reporting a “fake story.”

It is interesting how Ch in his usual obfuscatorial way wants to put all the emphasis on something he can make fun of: alleged toilet clogging documents attemptedly flushed away.

What about those documents classified top secret that were not flushed at all, but ADMITTEDLY and ILLEGALLY taken from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, and which now have ADMITTEDLY been "peacefully" turned over to the Justice Department?

Care to make fun of that, Ch?

What kind of obfuscatory language can you invent and dance around on to lessen the CRIMINAL intentionality of that?

Some of the records that the Jan. 6 committee has received had been ripped to shreds and taped back together, reflecting the former president’s habit of tearing up documents. In addition, he removed more than a dozen boxes of presidential records from the White House when he left office, which the National Archives believes contained classified material, according to a person briefed on the matter.

The House Oversight committee on Thursday announced an investigation into what it called “potential serious violations” of the Presidential Records Act.

Mr. Trump has been loath to return the boxes of documents he took from the White House, despite repeated efforts by the National Archives to obtain them. At some point during a monthslong negotiation between Mr. Trump’s team and the agency, officials at the National Archives threatened to send a letter to Congress or the Department of Justice if he continued to withhold the boxes, according to a person familiar with private discussions, who spoke about them on the condition of anonymity.

And while he was president, staff in the White House residence periodically discovered wads of printed paper clogging a toilet — leading them to believe that Mr. Trump had attempted to flush documents, according to people familiar with the situation. He was known to do the same on foreign trips, the people said. (Those incidents are recounted in a forthcoming book, “Confidence Man,” written by a New York Times reporter, about Mr. Trump and his presidency.)

Sometimes this comes to complete idiocy.  Liberals developed an exaggerated tendency to romanticize reality, to sympathize with the disadvantaged.  The infantilism

For decades they fed welfare queens, and racial equality, even the President is going to appoint an African American woman to the Supreme Court, as another exampl of affirmative discrimination, sympathetic bias against white conservatives.

Anyone else would be ‘lawyering up’ if they took classified docs home like Trump: Morning Joe

Donald Trump reportedly took top-secret White House documents home with him to Mar-A-Lago, and MSNBC's Joe Scarborough doesn't understand why he isn't already facing prosecution.

The National Archives retrieved 15 boxes of White House documents, some of them reportedly marked as classified or even "top secret," from the former president's private residence, and the "Morning Joe" host said anyone else would already be hiring a defense attorney to handle pending prosecution.

"This would be a mini scandal for Donald Trump," Scarborough said. "I mean, I was on the Armed Services Committee. If either myself as a congressperson or anything else on the committee took top-secret records and took them from the, that we saw at the Armed Services Committee and took them home, especially after we got out of Congress, the FBI would come after us. I would guess the Department of Justice would come after us."

"They have come after other people who have been charged for taking classified information," he added. "Ask Gn. David Petraeus, ask other people that had classified documents on their computers at home or taken materials home. This would not be a little scandal for a member of Congress or a senator who did the same thing. They would be lawyering up right now, knowing the DOJ would be coming after them. I guess the question is, does Donald Trump continue to live by a different standard than even senators and congressmen on Capitol Hill?"

No one opposes that. Those like you who say we do are liars, alky.

Had Disposable Joe simply said that he was going to appoint the very best candidate, that would've been the end of it. But Joe, being the virtue signaling, identity politics asshat that he is, had to preen to his base when preening was not required. And in doing so he made it about everything it should not be FIRST - affirmative action, race and gender; thus cheapening and diminishing the stature of the appointment right out of the fucking gate. Small thinkers like you cheer this shit and criticize those who oppose it as racist, when race, gender, or any level of identity politics should have nothing at all to do with it to begin with.

I'll be interested to see which black female candidate accepts the nomination, as I will instantly view her as being selected for reasons other than excellence in jurisprudence, instead being picked for the 'correct' degree of melanin, and the fact that she squats to pee.

An enduring mystery might finally have been solved. Remember when Donald Trump ranted about how “people are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once,” and nobody knew what on earth he was talking about? Maybe he was referring to personal difficulties in trying to flush away official White House documents.
Opinions to start the day, in your inbox. Sign up.

A forthcoming book by New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman, who covered Trump’s White House, reports that staff in the upstairs residence repeatedly found one of the toilets clogged with wads of printed paper. Trump issued a statement Thursday denying any and all document-flushing. But given what else we know about how he handled official paperwork — which belongs to the nation, not to him — I’m inclined to believe Haberman’s version of events.
From reporting in The Post, we learned this week that the National Archives and Records Administration had to recover 15 boxes of documents that Trump wrongly took with him to Mar-a-Lago, rather than sending them to the agency as required by law. From the Times, we learned that there may have been some classified material in those purloined documents. And now the National Archives and Records Administration has asked the Justice Department to investigate the matter.

We also know that some of the documents Trump did send to the Archives when he left office were pieced together with tape because of Trump’s habit of ripping up papers by hand when he finished with them — despite having been repeatedly warned, including by his chiefs of staff, that federal law required all those materials to be preserved. As Politico first reported in 2018, aides constantly had to fish torn bits of paper out of wastebaskets and painstakingly reassemble them.

By the standards of mass protests around the world, the “Freedom Convoy” snarling Downtown Ottawa ranks as a nuisance. The number of protesters, about 8,000 at their peak, is modest; there have been no serious injuries or altercations, the truckers stopped blaring their horns after residents got a temporary court injunction against them, and most Canadians support neither the truckers nor their cause. Yet what’s happening in Canada deserves close attention in the United States and across the world.

In an increasingly polarized political environment, the Canadian truckers became an instant cause célèbre. Donations poured in, prompting GoFundMe to pull the plug on the campaign after a few days under a policy that “prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment,” a void that was quickly filled by right-wing crowdfunding platforms. Copycat convoys have appeared as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.

Inevitably, a chorus of cheers arose from south of the border, led by Donald Trump’s declaration that “the Freedom Convoy is peacefully protesting the harsh policies of far-left lunatic Justin Trudeau who has destroyed Canada with insane Covid mandates,” referring to the prime minister. Senator Ted Cruz called the Canadian truckers “heroes”; Elon Musk tweeted, “Canadian truckers rule”; Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene suggested that the “corporate Communists” at GoFundMe should be arrested.

Dr. Andrew Pekosz explains that while mutations may affect severity, they aren’t the only way to blunt the virus’s power.
If the virus isn't going away, how do we live with it?
Katherine Eban writes that a clear-eyed view is required to organize long-term against an endemic virus.
What can New York tell us about Omicron?
A doctor who helped craft New York’s Covid response offers lessons from that experience.
The raucous images from Canada, a country widely regarded as a model of calm, tolerance and reason, demonstrate the worrisome degree to which Covid-19 mandates and other regulations have become a potent, and perhaps lasting symbol, for the far right of what they see as governmental assaults on their “freedoms.” The Canadian truckers initially launched their convoy in late January to protest the requirement that those crossing the Canadian-U.S. border must be vaccinated to avoid a 14-day quarantine. That in itself was a minority cause — only about a tenth of cross-border drivers are not vaccinated, according to the Canadian Trucking Alliance, which disavowed the protest. (And 86 percent of Canadians as a whole have received at least one shot.) A survey by the market research firm Leger found that 65 percent of Canadians believe the Freedom Convoy represents only a “small minority of selfish Canadians.”

Scott, you got what you expected!

Suppose you elected as president a person who habitually lies, cheats at golf, cheats on his spouses, appears to cheat on his taxes, attempted to steal an election, reneges on debts, promised pardons to government officials he had instructed to break the law, told his followers to punch protesters, and who, as a young man, is alleged to have hired someone to take the SAT for him? Would you expect him to abide by either the spirit or the letter of the Presidential Records Act, which requires presidents to preserve historically relevant materials? Or, given what you know about this president, who just happens to be Donald Trump, would you assume he would violate it by ripping up, flushing, or pilfering government documents?

Having spent a lifetime training us to expect him to do the bad thing rather than the good thing, Trump astonished nobody this week when it was reported that he absconded to Mar-a-Lago with at least 15 boxes of presidential documents. Actually, it was a surprise that there were any documents left to remove because we have known for years that while serving in the White House, he had a habit of making confetti of government paperwork. Now comes a salacious new wrinkle on Trump’s anti-archival tendencies. According to a forthcoming book by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump is alleged to have plugged a White House toilet with flushed papers. Trump denies having sent government papers down the swirly, but given his track record, his denial is almost as good as a confession. We’re lucky nobody pointed him the way to the White House incinerator.

For the last two weeks, Canada’s capital city of Ottawa has been under siege by angry truckers.

The so-called “freedom convoy” is said to be protesting a vaccine mandate for truckers. But the demonstrations have quickly morphed into a broader far-right movement.

If you look closely at photos of the demonstrators you’ll now see Nazi and even Confederate flags. The message of protesters has morphed from demanding an end to Covid-19 restrictions to demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was recently re-elected.

But the idea that these are populist protests is easily disproven by the polls. A new poll shows that just 32% of Canadians support the protests while 62% oppose them.

In fact, Canadians have generally approved of mask and vaccine mandates. The pandemic restrictions have received broad public support and are much less controversial than they’ve been in parts of the United States. In fact, roughly 90% of Canadian truckers are even vaccinated.

Unfortunately, the news coverage of the protests in the U.S. leads Americans to falsely believe that Canada is in the midst of a popular uprising. This has been amplified this week on Fox News and by other conservative outlets.

That message was further pushed when Donald Trump endorsed the convoy saying it was “peacefully protesting the harsh policies of far-left lunatic Justin Trudeau who has destroyed Canada with insane Covid mandates.” This led the Canadian government to issue a statement warning against “foreign interference.”

The reality is that what’s happening in Ottawa is a fringe movement. If anything, the Canadian truck protests appear to be an unpopular uprising.

Here’s what else we noticed this week:

The real Coldheartedtruth

EDITOR'S PICK -- THE PANTAGRAPH

From the Pulpit:

Would Jesus Now Want Honesty from Us?

James Boswell

If Jesus himself – the physical, human, flesh and blood man of Nazareth himself – were to be brought from his time into ours, he would surely become very upset by what he sees. It would quickly be made clear to him that the Kingdom of God, which he and all his followers had believed and taught would be brought by God to all the earth before all of them had died, still has not arrived. Surely Jesus would want to share with us his deep disappointment in discovering this, and would then join us in trying to understand how he and many others of his time had come to have so mistaken an expectation.

Consulting modern research, Jesus would probably agree with our scholars that he and others of his contemporaries had been deeply influenced by the apocalyptic thinking that arose among his people in times so dire that many of them believed that only a direct messianic intervention by God could save Israel and the world. They believed that God would soon act to replace all the corrupt kingdoms and unjust ideologies of this age by bringing to the earth God’s perfect Kingdom. And as Jesus would probably tell us, at his baptism he had undergone a profound experience that convinced him he had been divinely chosen to initiate that messianic intervention.

But the expected kingdom did not come. And has not.

So much for Jesus’ absolutist convictions. So much for his certainty that all the competing kingdoms, empires, religions, ideologies and cruelties of the world were about to end, to be replaced by God’s own righteous Kingdom wherein peace, justice, love and compassion would be made possible by means of the heavenly Father mercifully pouring out his Spirit onto “all flesh,” thus assuring that his will would “be done on earth.”

But that did not take place. That has not happened.

Is it possible, then, that Jesus would now want all of us who still revere him to ask ourselves which, if any, of his authentic teachings should still guide us in the living of our lives? Though we today are conscious of his human limitations and mistaken expectations, are there beliefs of his we still can hold, dreams of his we still can dream? What relevance, if any, should he still have for us today?

Would Jesus want us to pursue that frank and honest kind of questioning?

Holt asked Biden what scenario could prompt him to send troops to rescue Americans fleeing the country. Biden replied: “There’s not. That's a world war when Americans and Russia start shooting at one another.”

"We’re in a very different world than we’ve ever been," he added.

WASHINGTON — White House records obtained by the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol don't show any phone calls to or from then-President Donald Trump, including some the panel knows he made with Republican lawmakers, during the hourslong period after his speech on the Ellipse that day, a source familiar with the records told NBC News.

It was widely reported that during that time frame, for example, Trump spoke by phone with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., who have publicly described their conversations with him. The gap in the call records, which was first reported by The New York Times, could be the result of Trump’s well-documented habit of using his or others' personal cellphones to communicate with his aides and associates; it is unclear whether it could also be the result of incomplete or altered White House records.

“It will be interesting to know if all of the president’s cellphone calls were logged,” the source said.

Republicans Silent on Trump Taking ‘Top Secret’ Docs
February 11, 2022 at 6:52 am EST By Taegan Goddard 65 Comments

New York Times:
“Donald Trump once thundered that the questions surrounding Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server were ‘bigger than Watergate.’

"On his 2016 presidential campaign, ‘where are her emails?’ became a Republican rallying cry that was soon replaced with an even more threatening demand:
‘LOCK HER UP.’

“Now, it’s Mr. Trump who faces accusations of improperly taking government records to his private residence. But among Republicans, once so forceful about the issue of mishandling documents, there was little sign of outrage.”

it's just terrible.

If the Orange Man did it,

That's not just stupid. That's 'alky' stupid. Like 'sharing your bank account information on Twitter' stupid.
