Children are perhaps the most-masked people in America, and clearly the people least needing to be masked. Whether or not one believes that masks work—and the best available scientific research suggests, as I have detailed in City Journal, that surgical and cloth masks provide little to no benefit in stopping the spread of viruses and might even be counterproductive—kids are plainly the least likely to be struck ill by Covid and probably the least likely to spread it.
There’s an extraordinary difference—even greater than widely recognized—between Covid-19’s effects on kids and its effects on adults, as fatality numbers show. Far from regarding this important fact as a godsend for the upcoming generation, however, many policymakers have treated it as an irrelevancy. At the same time, they have ignored that children living in mask-mandate states have had essentially identical Covid fatality rates as kids living in mask-free states.
In fact, people who have died of Covid-19 in the U.S. have been split about evenly into four age groups: About a quarter (26 percent) have been at least 85 years old, about a quarter (26 percent) between 75 and 84, about a quarter (23 percent) between 65 and 74, and about a quarter (25 percent) between 30 and 64. Less than one percent (0.7 percent) of Covid deaths in the U.S. have involved someone under the age of 30, and most of those have involved someone between the ages of 25 and 29. Again, that’s based on the CDC’s numbers. The concept that our CDC is now moving away from the idea that paper and cloth masks can prevent the spread of Covid is sort of proof that they never actually worked. Perhaps if you lock everyone down, make everyone stand six fee apart and wear masks, that all together that might help. But as we are now two years into this thing we are learning that the lockdowns did more harm than good, that we probably needed medical grade masking from day one, and that we were basically treated like cattle for most of this.
More to the point, after two years of data it doesn't appear that there was much difference (or very minimal difference) between the states and areas where there was a ton of Covid restrictions and places where there was not. You wouldn't know this by watching CNN or reading most of your liberal websites, and they loved to focus on Florida every time they got a surge and then ignored those same surges as they moved across the country.
Right now it deaths per million, many of the top ten states are what we would consider to be liberal states where they had heavy handed Covid restrictions. Meanwhile, Florida sits at #19 in deaths per million. Whoda thunk it?
The reality is that once the dust settles and the rage is gone, all that will be left is the raw data and the analysis of said data. For those who like to ask how "history" will view something, the numbers will provide history with plenty of logical context that simply has not been present during the pandemic so far.

A PANDEMIC REALLY JUST FOR THE UNVACCINATED

Aaron Blake:
“It’s gotten to the point where people who are vaccinated and boosted dying in a given week is apparently about 1 in a million — even less than dying in a car crash.”
________
SO MANY MORE LIVES could have been saved except for Trump.
YOU CAN BET HISTORY WILL SURE MAKE NOTE OF THAT.
You just wait until MORE of the REALLY OBJECTIVE data accumulations become available.
Most of what you have been saying will NOT BE SUPPORTED.
I heard parents talking on the radio yesterday about how relieved they are to be getting vaccinations for their even younger children.
It’s gotten to the point where people who are vaccinated and boosted dying in a given week is apparently about 1 in a million — even less than dying in a car crash.”
I wonder who Aaron Blake is and what makes him think this is suddenly just a pandemic of the unvaccinated (when most everyone else is admitting otherwise).
The Minnesota Dept of health has NUMBERS that show something quite different than Aaron Blake suggests. A disappointing post for you will be coming out tomorrow morning for your personal reading pleasure.

Well good for them... talk about the chances of dying being less than an auto accident. I think we went over these numbers. Of course, you got confused as you generally do by "numbers".
There is nearly no chance of a child dying who is between the ages of 1-4. Better chance that they will drown in a bathtub or suffocate because they got a hold of a plastic bag.
Probably a better chance of that child dying in a car accident on the way to get vaccinated than it is to die from Covid.
But if a Parent has been that misinformed and would feel better putting an untested vaccine into their child to protect them from the one in a quarter million chance that they will die from Covid...
Then that is their decision.
No accounting for intelligence.
The CDC also recently provided data from a larger study — similar to the spring-and-summer data from last year. In data for 25 jurisdictions covering the last three months of 2021, it found the death rate was 53 times higher among the unvaccinated than the boosted.
It’s gotten to the point where people who are vaccinated and boosted dying in a given week is apparently about 1 in a million — even less than dying in a car crash.
Their is no accounting for your lack of empathy and integrity.
The omicron variant rendered the coronavirus vaccines significantly less effective at stopping the spread. “What’s the point of vaccines or vaccine mandates?” a bunch of powerful people asked. They did so while deliberately ignoring both the vaccines’ continued assistance in slowing the spread (albeit at a reduced rate) and their continually strong performance in keeping people alive and out of the hospital.
It was shortsighted at the time, and it’s looking increasingly so now.
New data shows that on those same measures — literally the most vital ones — the gap between vaccinated and unvaccinated Americans remains stark. In fact, when you compare unvaccinated people to those most protected by the vaccines, the gap has grown.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new data this week from Los Angeles County. The data covered the period between Nov. 7 and Jan. 8, which means the vast majority of cases involved came after the rise of omicron.
What you’ll see right away is that there are indeed lots of infections among both unvaccinated people and vaccinated people — more specifically, vaccinated people who haven’t gotten boosters. The latter accounted for a majority of cases, about 53 percent. A big reason for that is that they significantly outnumber the unvaccinated in the county, currently about 2 to 1. Unvaccinated people still got infected more frequently, but the gap closed.
Where the gap has not really closed — and indeed has arguably increased — is when you focus on the most serious cases, and when you compare the unvaccinated to those who have taken the most advantage of the vaccines.

Given this remarkable history, the decline in respect for and understanding of the benefits of science and institutions that support it among large numbers of people like you Scott. Is that
The criticism of science in some quarters goes much deeper and is much broader. The iterative nature of the process of scientific discovery through constant research and learning from successes and failures - the frequency of the need for experts to change guidance or conclusions about the nature and treatment of many diseases, based on new knowledge - is a part of the scientific process that seems little understood in many quarters.
You ideology leads you to distrust scientists. Their conclusions are based upon further information and analysis

COVID-19 is LA County's leading cause of death during pandemic
Countering contentions by some that COVID-19 is less deadly than other conditions, Los Angeles County's public health director said Thursday the virus was the leading cause of death locally from the start of the pandemic through December.
Basing her figures on death certificate data, Barbara Ferrer said during an online briefing that 24,947 COVID-related deaths were reported in the county between March 2020 and Dec. 31, 2021. That surpassed the county's previous leading cause of death, coronary heart disease, which was responsible for 21,513 fatalities over the same period.
For people who have compared COVID to the flu, the number of people who died from pneumonia or influenza over that time frame was 3,422, she said.
"Clearly, despite the availability of vaccines and the dominance of omicron, which generally causes less severe disease than prior variants (of the virus), COVID-19 deaths continue to far outstrip deaths due to other respiratory illnesses," Ferrer said.
She pointed to a recent New York Times analysis that found Americans are dying at a rate double that of Great Britain and four times the rate of Germany, with low vaccination rates cited as the most likely reason.

The cold hard reality (or the coldheartedtruth if you prefer) is that the United States strategy, science, and pretty much everything surrounding Covid has been at odds with most of the world.
In fact, our own CDC seems to constantly time new studies to dispute studies from other parts of the world in terms of subject after subject that are almost now too long of a list to remember.
But yet, when push comes to shove, we have underperformed the rest of the first world. We would be in the bottom third in Europe and only beating European countries like Bosnia, Slovakia, Croatia, and other less sophisticated countries. We would fall well behind all of Scandinavia, most of western Europe and pretty much every modern country - Italy, UK, Greece, Russian, Ukraine, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Germany, Ireland, etc... all have lower death rates.
In fact we have the highest death rate (per capita_ in all of North America. We suck worse than Mexico or even Bermuda (where Covid victims just disappear). How is that even possible.
Oh and we have gone way downhill since Biden took over, so no blaming Trump on this one.
How is it that we supposedly dispute everything everyone else is doing, act like we are smarter than everyone.... while the rest of the world (doing many many things fundamentally different - such as providing treatments) is doing so much better?
And liberal sit around here defending Fauci like he is a god, attacking people like DeSantis like he is Hitler and demanding that somehow the rest of the world is still all wrong... and the only reason we cannot prove that statistically is apparently because of Joe Rogan.

Over 4,800 flights coming into, within or departing the United States were canceled as of Thursday afternoon, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
Many of those cancellations came from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport in Texas, which closed early in the day after saying its runways were “not operational while being treated for snow and ice.” The airport had opened at least one runway by Thursday afternoon, but warned customers to “anticipate intermediate stoppages throughout the day to treat for snow and ice.”
So far, DFW Airport – an American Airlines hub – has canceled 657, or 68%, of its daily outgoing flights for Thursday. Chicago canceled 275 outgoing flights, or 25% of its daily total, while St. Louis Lambert International Airport canceled 156, or 74%, of its flights.
Airlines had canceled more than 1,000 flights in the U.S. scheduled for Wednesday, the flight-tracking service FlightAware.com showed, including more than half taken off the board in St. Louis. In an effort to stay ahead of the weather, Southwest Airlines announced Tuesday that it would suspend all of its flight operations Wednesday at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and Thursday at its Dallas Love Field hub.
“Around the country, we’re planning to operate a limited or reduced schedule from some cities in the path of the storm but will make adjustments to the schedule as needed,” Southwest spokesman Dan Landson said.
The storm will likely continue to impact flights across the country, as heavy snow is expected from the southern Rockies to northern New England, while forecasters said heavy ice buildup was likely from Texas to Pennsylvania.
More than 200,000 homes and businesses lost power across the U.S. on Thursday as power companies struggled to keep pace with freezing rain and snow that weighed down tree limbs and encrusted power lines,
Power outages blamed on icy or downed power lines were concentrated in Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas, but the path of the storm stretched further from the central U.S. into the South and Northeast on Thursday.
It is the second weekend in a row travelers were plagued with weather-related cancelations and delays after a nor’easter brought blizzard conditions to many parts of the East Coast.
A separate issue has plagued airports and, while not as dire a problem as predicted, forced a number of cancelations: the rollout of 5G networks across the country.
Some flights have been canceled since Verizon and AT&T turned on their new networks last month, but predictions of widespread cancellations turned out to be wrong. The Federal Aviation Administration has cleared 90% of the nation’s airline fleet to land during poor visibility at airports near 5G cell towers.
The CEOs of American Airlines and United Airlines have said they don’t expect any more disruptions from the rollout. However, more than half of the planes operated by regional airlines remain restricted during bad weather, said Faye Malarkey Black, president of a trade group for the smaller carriers, some of which operate flights for American Eagle, United Express and Delta Connection.
Dozens of flights were canceled because of 5G concerns after the services went live, but widespread cancellations were avoided.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It was during the Trump administration when, early in the spread of virus cases across the world, the United States leapt ahead of all other countries in the numbers of virus cases and deaths.
That took off and ascended toward the heights while Trump was still claiming it would soon go away like magic and planning to "pack the churches" for Easter and advocating injections of disinfectant and sunlight.

State Department Won’t Share Evidence Against Russia
February 3, 2022 at 8:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 206 Comments
State Department spokesperson Ned Price got into a tense exchange with Associated Press reporter Matt Lee after Price was asked if the U.S. would provide evidence for its recent allegations against Russia.
Price repeatedly said the U.S. was maintaining confidentiality to “protect sources and methods.”
Said Price:
“If you doubt the credibility of the U.S. government, of the British government, of other governments and want to, you know, find solace in information that the Russians are putting out, that is for you to do.”
___________
Good answer. However Price put up with Lee interrupting him far too much. He should have said, "Listen, you just keep quiet and stop interrupting me while I'm speaking. I listen to your question without interrupting, and then answer, so you listen to my answer in full without interrupting, and then if you want to ask another question, you can, and I will listen to that. But you just remain silent until I have finished with my answers."

Remember Trump standing beside Putin and saying he believed Putin above our own intelligence agencies.
Katrine Wallace, PhD, an epidemiologist at University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health, says that she considers Joe Rogan “a menace to public health” for continuously platforming anti-vaccine ideology to his enormous audience. “Having things like this on the Joe Rogan podcast gives a platform to these people and makes it a false balance. This is what really bothers me,” she tells Rolling Stone. “These are fringe ideas not backed in science, and having it on a huge platform makes it seem there are two sides to this issue. And there are really not. The overwhelming evidence is the vaccine works, and it is safe.”
Although many have criticized Spotify for hosting Rogan on its platform, the open letter to Spotify does not request that Rogan’s show be taken off Spotify, nor does it demand that Spotify remove the Malone episode in particular. Rather, it is calling on Spotify to develop a comprehensive policy prohibiting misinformation. “Any podcast that platforms dangerous people, people spreading dangerous ideas and misinformation, should not be allowed to go unchecked on the Spotify platform,” says Abbie Richards, a researcher specializing in misinformation. Richards gave Rein the idea of penning an open letter to Spotify when he approached her with his concerns... “We’re not focused on something as small as just one episode or Rogan. They need to implement a policy and carry it out.”
Though Spotify does not appear to have a clear policy regarding misinformation in its terms of service, in the past the platform has removed episodes containing misinformation regarding vaccines. “Spotify prohibits content on the platform which promotes dangerous false, deceptive, or misleading content about Covid-19 that may cause offline harm and/or pose a direct threat to public health. When content that violates this standard is identified it is removed from the platform,” it said in a statement to the Verge last April. But it has been reluctant to take action against Rogan’s podcast, which reaches an estimated 11 million people per episode; nor does it include a warning label regarding potential misinformation on any podcast episodes. Spotify did not immediately return Rolling Stone‘s requests for comment.
Considering the size of Rogan’s audience, as well as the staggering reported value of his contract with the platform, not everyone involved with the open letter is convinced that Spotify will ever be willing to take a stand on his content. Yet Rivera believes Spotify has an enormous ethical obligation to do so. “Considering their role in society is disseminating content, there is a responsibility in a global public health emergency to not exacerbate the problem,” she says. “We have an infodemic going on that is prolonging the pandemic and it is causing people to make bad choices and actually die. These are preventable illnesses that folks like Joe Rogan and Dr. Robert Malone are directly responsible for.”
