Meanwhile....

As reported by Daily Expose of the UK  this data has been sort of ignored. To be clear, Covid really hasn't gone away. In fact as many people are dying today than were dying last year at this time. What has gone away is any evidence that any of our methods of controlling the Covid virus are working.

Over the past few months we have established through scientific analysis of the data that the lockdowns didn't work, that mask mandates were not effective, and the last bastion of justified government coercion (vaccination mandates) is slowly becoming unjustified as well. While vaccines did appear to work for a while pretty well, their effectiveness has worn off to the degree that it's hard to make the same arguments that were made six months ago.

So was it ever the idea of people dying from Covid that motivated people to keep it in the news? Or was it just the opportunity to look down on, attack, and otherwise hassle people who were not following the recommended protocol? Had there been no disagreements about the science and everyone had gone along with everything, I doubt seriously that this would have been the all encompassing story that it was. But much of the coverage was aimed at those disagreements and quite frankly trying to blame ideas and people for an uncontrollable virus.

Now that even the CDC is backing off the mask wearing (suggesting now that you need KN95 or N95 masks to make a difference) it seems that there is little interest from many of these same people in reporting any of this.

For the past 12-18 months this country has been torn apart and at war with each other over these things, and the side most indignant who wanted to control everyone else ended up wrong. Now there is a combination of denial, anger, and apathy from these people. Sure, there are a few holdouts that will find a few reputable sources willing to keep up the fight, but that has been slowing becoming the minority position. At the end of the day the science of data will prevail. Don't look for any of those who were wrong to apologize.

Why do you believe it is that Biden has been so spectacularly feeble in all of this when he has decades of experience in international affairs (which was really sitting on a committee that talked about things)? Do masks protect you and others from COVID-19?LAST UPDATED MARCH 03, 2022, AT 4:00 P.M.WHAT YOU CAN ASSUME

They do. But effectiveness depends on the type of mask you and those around you are wearing. There is not yet omicron-specific data about mask effectiveness, but in February 2022, the CDC shifted its masking guidelines to follow metrics based on local hospitalization rates, rather than metrics based on transmission rates, largely in response to the number of people omicron ended up infecting. The agency now recommends indoor mask wearing for everyone only in counties where the risks of hospitalization are high. You can use HSA and FSA money to buy high-quality masks.) So far, there is little evidence to suggest that masking, specifically, is harming the cognitive or speech development of young children.

Joe Biden warns of ‘winter of death’ for the unvaccinated, with Omicron ‘here now and spreading’

“We are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated — for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm,” he said.

The US president urged Americans to get their booster shots, saying it was “past time” to get one and prevent schools and businesses from shutting down.

There’s been a lot of research on mask effectiveness since the start of the pandemic.▾ Read less

Back in March and April 2020, there was genuine debate among scientists about whether masking was significantly effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19, especially compared with interventions like social distancing. That has not been the case for at least a year. In January 2021, a systematic review of many different types of studies concluded that mask-wearing — especially if widely adopted — was effective at reducing COVID-19 transmission. An August 2021 study of nearly 350,000 adults across 600 villages in Bangladesh found that widespread use of surgical masks, even at levels below 50 percent, reduced the likelihood of contracting COVID-19 by 11 percent — 35 percent for people over 60. And research in the US has shown that masking during surges can help curtail spread and protect populations.Another issue that has changed is our understanding of how long you can use an individual N95 or KN95 mask for. Remember that these masks were, prior to COVID-19, industrial tools with regulations and recommendations geared toward those uses. They were intended to be thrown away after a single medical procedure or factory shift, so the idea got down to the public that we should also throw these masks away after a few hours or a day of use. But that is not true. In fact, health care workers have reused these masks successfully in the past. The main issue is whether the mask will still fit to your face effectively after multiple uses. There's not a ton of evidence on the fine details of mask reuse, but studies have shown that you can get at least two or three reuses with little change to fit. Outside formal scientific papers, people like Aaron Collins, an aerosol engineer, have been conducting tests of masks for the way people use them now. He's found that, depending on brand, these masks can maintain high levels of filtration quality and fit through 30-40 hours of light, everyday use.

COVID-19 treatment and prevention myths

Currently, no cure is available for COVID-19. Researchers are testing a variety of treatments. But misinformation continues to circulate about ways to prevent infection with the COVID-19 virus or treat COVID-19.

Here's what the science says:

Pneumonia and flu vaccines. Vaccines against pneumonia, such as the pneumococcal vaccine, don't provide protection against the COVID-19 virus. The flu shot also won't protect you against the COVID-19 virus. However, annual flu vaccinations are recommended for everyone age 6 months and older.Saline nasal wash. There is no evidence that rinsing your nose with saline protects against infection with the COVID-19 virus.High temperatures. Exposure to the sun or to temperatures higher than 77 F (25 C) doesn't prevent the COVID-19 virus or cure COVID-19. You can get the COVID-19 virus in sunny, hot and humid weather. Taking a hot bath also can't prevent you from catching the COVID-19 virus. Your normal body temperature remains the same, regardless of the temperature of your bath or shower.Low temperatures. Cold weather and snow also can't kill the COVID-19 virus.Antibiotics. Antibiotics kill bacteria, not viruses. However, people hospitalized due to COVID-19 might be given antibiotics because they also have developed a bacterial infection.Alcohol and chlorine spray. Spraying alcohol or chlorine on your body won't kill viruses that have entered your body. These substances also can harm your eyes, mouth and clothes.Drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol doesn't protect you from the COVID-19 virus.Garlic. There's no evidence that eating garlic protects against infection with the COVID-19 virus.Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection lamp. Ultraviolet light can be used as a disinfectant on surfaces. But don't use a UV lamp to sterilize your hands or other areas of your body. UV radiation can cause skin irritation.5G mobile networks. Avoiding exposure to or use of 5G networks doesn't prevent infection with the COVID-19 virus. Viruses can't travel on radio waves and mobile networks. The COVID-19 virus is spreading in many countries that lack 5G mobile networks.Disinfectants. When applied to surfaces, disinfectants can help kill germs such as the COVID-19 virus. However, don't use disinfectants on your body, inject them into your body or swallow them. Disinfectants can irritate the skin and be toxic if swallowed or injected into the body. Also, don't wash produce with disinfectants.Supplements. Many people take vitamin C, zinc, green tea or echinacea to boost their immune systems. But these supplements are unlikely to affect your immune function or prevent you from getting sick. The supplement colloidal silver, which has been marketed as a COVID-19 treatment, isn’t safe or effective for treating any disease. Oleandrin, an extract from the toxic oleander plant, is poisonous and shouldn’t be taken as a supplement or home remedy.Ivermectin. This drug is often used in the U.S. to treat or prevent parasites in animals. In humans, specific doses of ivermectin tablets can be used to treat parasitic worms and a topical version can be applied to the skin to treat head lice and skin conditions. However, ivermectin isn’t a drug for treating viruses and the FDA hasn’t approved use of this drug to treat or prevent COVID-19. Taking large doses of this drug can cause serious harm. Don’t use medications intended for animals on yourself.

Focus on facts

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been working to remove misleading products from store shelves and online marketplaces. In the meantime, remember that testimonials aren't a substitute for scientific evidence. Also, few diseases can be treated quickly, so beware of quick fixes. A miracle cure that claims to contain a secret ingredient is likely a hoax.

Fear of martial law sparks Russian exodus

Vladimir Putin chaired a Security Council meeting yesterday at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence outside Moscow.

Thousands of Russians are rushing to flee the country ahead of this weekend, as rumors swirl that Vladimir Putin could soon declare martial law, close the borders and crack down even harder on domestic dissent.

Why it matters:
For as devastating as the humanitarian situation in Ukraine has become, widespread suffering is rapidly arriving at Russia's own doorstep.

More than 8,000 people have already been detained at anti-war protests since Feb. 24, according to the independent monitor OVD-Info.

Russia's Duma has passed a law making the spread of "fake news" about the Russian military punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The last pillars of Russia's already-limited independent press were forced to close under pressure from the Kremlin this week.

Russia's state communications watchdog blocked the websites of the BBC,
Voice of America,
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty,
Deutsche Welle
and other foreign media outlets for spreading "fake" information.

What to watch:
Russia's second-largest airline announced it will cease all international flights from tomorrow,
as Russia's upper house of parliament meets for an emergency session that many fear could mark the descent of a new Iron Curtain.

Covid-19 vaccines arrived in time to radically alter the pandemic

To figure out how many people would have died without vaccines, researchers drew on real-world observations of Covid-19 impacts on the population and actual vaccination rates across the US. They created a model of Covid-19 transmission and fit their model to what actually happened. From there, the scientists calculated what would have happened if there were no vaccines (as well as if the vaccination rate were halved).

The results showed that the timing of the vaccines — which were developed faster than any new vaccine in history — had a huge impact. In the US, vaccines began distribution in December 2020, and they were offered to all US adults by April 2021. The mass-vaccination campaign kicked in just as the country was facing a major wave of new cases.

“Not only did our vaccination program really suppress the ongoing surge ... but it also helped avoid a later spring wave that would have happened with variant emergence,” said Fitzpatrick. “I think the main takeaway is really focusing on speed and not just coverage. The emphasis that we had on getting the vaccines out fast ... was the right impulse.”

These conclusions line up with other estimates of lives saved. Sumedha Gupta, a health policy economist at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis, created a model that used the varying vaccination rates between states as a natural experiment. Gupta and her team found that by May 9, 2021 — less than six months into the vaccination effort — vaccines had already prevented 140,000 people from dying.

Gupta found that the most vulnerable groups benefited the most: the elderly, the immunocompromised, those with preexisting health conditions. But the Covid-19 vaccines also had knock-on impacts because they slowed the transmission of the virus, which helped protect unvaccinated people too.

The FDA was forced by a judge to release clinical data on the COVID vaccines back in January and so 55,000 pages of documents were just released. The FDA had originally wanted to hide the data for 75 years and release it in 2096 because, of course, the FDA is basically engaged in a criminal conspiracy.
The COVID vaccines should never have been approved. This was obvious from the very beginning when animal trials were skipped in the Trump Administration’s ill-fated “Operation War Speed.” And now it’s undeniably true. We have the clinical data, and it’s horrific.

Odds Favor Putin
2:00 pm EST

Eurointelligence:
“The reason Vladimir Putin has the power to invade a country the size of Ukraine is western money. Each day the west is importing energy from Russia to the tune of $700 million. We even increased our reliance on Russian energy after he annexed Crimea. At no point did we ever solve the problem. Going after the yachts of some oligarchs is one of many ways of not solving the problem. Inviting President Volodymyr Zelensky to a grand-standing session in the European parliament is another one. We are not going to make Ukraine a member of the EU.

“We now see a clear path for Putin to win this war. He encircles and destroys. He will do to Kiev what he did to Aleppo, Grozny, and most recently to Kharkov. Putin is a very predictable military strategist.”

BUT
Stay Calm
March 4, 2022 at 2:30 pm EST

Tom Nichols:
“It’s going to get worse. The images and sounds from these first few days are a mere prologue to what will come once Putin realizes that he is on track to lose this war, even if he somehow ‘wins’ by flattening entire cities.

“In my rage, I want someone somewhere to do something.
I have taught military and national-security affairs for more than a quarter century, and I know what will happen when a 40-mile column of men and weapons encircles a city of outgunned defenders.
I want all the might of the civilized world—a world of which Putin is no longer a part—to obliterate the invading forces and save the people of Ukraine…”

“And yet, I still counsel caution and restraint,
a position I know many Americans find impossible to understand.
Every measure of our outrage is natural, as are the calls for action.
But emotions should never dictate policy.
As President Joe Biden emphasized in his State of the Union address, we must do all we can to aid the Ukrainian resistance and to fortify NATO,
but we cannot become involved in military operations in Ukraine.”

Carlson is questioning Jackson's credentials and demanding to see the accomplished judge's LSAT scores.

"I'm a lawyer, and I can tell you that no one speaks of LSAT scores after their acceptance to law school; nor do those scores indicate how good of a lawyer or judge a law school applicant would be," writes Dean Obeidallah. The maneuver is just another version of Donald Trump questioning Barack Obama's ability to get into Harvard, or other GOP leaders who peddle replacement theory and enjoy the support of white supremacists, says Obeidallah. When and why Did Biden loss these voters?

"Broken down by race, just 40 percent of independent black voters supported Biden. Twenty-four percent of white independents approved, and 21 percent of independent Hispanics approved of Biden.

In every state in the nation, Biden’s approval rating is negative among independents. Only 20 percent of independents in California, 30 percent in Vermont, and 21 percent in New York approved of Biden."

World War Three.

WASHINGTON — Senior White House officials designing the strategy to confront Russia have begun quietly debating a new concern: that the avalanche of sanctions directed at Moscow, which have gained speed faster than they imagined, is cornering President Vladimir V. Putin and may prompt him to lash out, perhaps expanding the conflict beyond Ukraine.

In Situation Room meetings in recent days, the issue has come up repeatedly, according to three officials. Mr. Putin’s tendency, American intelligence officials have told the White House and Congress, is to double down when he feels trapped by his own overreach. So they have described a series of possible reactions, ranging from indiscriminate shelling of Ukrainian cities to compensate for the early mistakes made by his invading force, to cyberattacks directed at the American financial system, to more nuclear threats and perhaps moves to take the war beyond Ukraine’s borders.

The debate over Mr. Putin’s next moves is linked to an urgent re-examination by intelligence agencies of the Russian leader’s mental state, and whether his ambitions and appetite for risk have been altered by two years of Covid isolation.

Those concerns accelerated after Mr. Putin’s order on Sunday to place the country’s strategic nuclear weapons on a “combat ready

What does calling for the assassination of a guy who's already paranoid do to his mind?  Does it make him more reasonable, more willing to end his war?  Does it make him easier to negotiate to end this war on Ukraine?  Well, an educated guess on Putin suggests that it more likely validates his already galloping paranoia.

We certainly can see it in the Russian press, controlled by Putin, which has made lots of hay on Graham's call to kill Putin.

An excerpt of the video was shared on TODAY, which was sent with a press release that read:

March 4, 2022 – In an NBC News exclusive, former U.S. Attorney General William Barr tells NBC News’ Lester Holt that he believes President Trump was responsible for the January 6 Capitol Hill attack, saying, “I do think he was responsible in the broad sense of that word, in that it appears that part of the plan was to send this group up to the Hill. I think the whole idea was to intimidate Congress. And I think that that was wrong.”

He also says, “I haven’t seen anything to say he was legally responsible for it in terms of incitement.”

Additionally during the sit-down, Barr says that while President Trump was claiming election fraud in 2020, he told Trump, “The reason you are where you are is because you wheeled out a clown show of lawyers.”

Barr’s needle threading in saying Trump is responsible for the attacks but falling short of saying he is legally responsible will surely be viewed by his critics as the sort of craven behavior that enabled the behavior of Trump.

A previously released clip of the interview featured Barr retelling how he came to resign from the Trump administration after telling the then-president that claims of a stolen election were bullshit.

Republicans Have Nothing to Offer on Ukraine

Jonathan Bernstein:
“One group of Republicans spent the buildup to the war mocking Biden’s warnings about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion plans;
that includes the rump faction that had, until about a week ago, ranged from Putin-curious to full-on Putin fans.”

“As for most other Republicans?

"They have demonstrated they have little or nothing to offer. They’ve been at their best — or I suppose their least-worst — when they bash Biden for vague, unspecified weakness without suggesting how he’s been weak in Europe or what specifically they want him to do to be stronger.

"But it goes downhill when they do suggest specifics, whether it’s Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker advocating for a U.S.-imposed no-fly zone (which Florida Senator Marco Rubio, to his credit, knocked down as the beginning of World War III) or South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham calling for someone to assassinate Putin.

“Republicans are so averse to agreeing with anything a Democratic president is doing that, when a Democratic president occupies the middle ground, they have little to say.”

Former Vice President Mike Pence speaks at the National Press Club in Washington, Nov. 30, 2021. Pence will urge Republicans to move on from the 2020 election. And he will say "there is no room in this party for apologists for Putin" as he escalates his break with former President Donald Trump (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta, File)
In a speech Friday evening to the Republican Party's top donors in New Orleans, former Vice President Mike Pence is expected to say that “there is no room in this party for apologists for Putin” as he further cements his break from former President Donald Trump.
Pence, in a speech Friday evening to the party’s top donors in New Orleans, will take on those in his party who have failed to forcefully condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin for his unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

“Where would Russian tanks be today if NATO had not expanded the borders of freedom? There is no room in this party for apologists for Putin,” Pence will say, according to excerpts from the speech. “There is only room for champions of freedom.”

Pence does not explicitly reference Trump, who has repeatedly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin as "smart" and called him "a genius" while claiming the invasion of Ukraine never would have happened on his watch.

In an interview on the conservative radio program "The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show" last month, Trump praised the Russian leader for declaring two regions in eastern Ukraine as independent and ordering troops into those areas to carry out “peacekeeping functions.”

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius!” Trump said. “Putin declares a big portion of Ukraine … as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. So Putin is now saying it’s independent — a large section of Ukraine. I said, ‘How smart is that?’ And he’s going to go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s the strongest peace force. We could use that on our southern border. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re gonna keep peace, all right.”

Trump went on to say Putin is “very savvy” and that Russia would not be showing such aggression toward Ukraine if he were still in office.

“I knew Putin very well,” Trump said. “I got along with him great. He liked me. I liked him. I mean, you know, he’s a tough cookie, got a lot of the great charm and a lot of pride.

Pence will also continue to push back on Trump’s lies about the 2020 election as he lays the groundwork for a possible 2024 presidential run. Trump, who has been teasing his own comeback bid that could potentially put the two in direct competition, has continued to falsely insist that Pence had the power to overturn the 2020 election, which he did not.

After what's been a bleak several months politically for President Biden, a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist survey finds he is seeing a significant boost in his approval ratings across the board following his State of the Union address and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"This is an unusual bounce," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll. "It gets him back to where he was pre-Afghanistan."

Here's a look at some of the numbers:

Overall approval rating jumped to 47%, up 8 points from the NPR poll last month. Presidents don't generally see much, if any bounce, out of a State of the Union address. Since 1978, there had only been six times when a president saw an approval rating improve 4 points or more following State of the Union addresses, according to the pollsters. Three of those bounces were for former President Bill Clinton.

Ukraine handling is up 18 points to 52%.
Coronavirus pandemic handling is now 55%, up 8 points.

Economic handling up 8 points to 45%.

The national survey of 1,322 adults was conducted March 1 and 2 by live callers via mobile phone and landlines, following the State of the Union address. Results were weighted to reflect the demographics of the country, as shown in the U.S. Census' 2019 American Community Survey. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percentage points, meaning results could be almost 4 points lower or higher.

RARE SPOT OF BRIGHT NEWS — JOE BIDEN’s presidency may be mired in inflationary woes and foreign conflicts, but the state of the U.S. economy remains strong:

The country added 678,000 jobs last month, according to today’s monthly jobs report, beating expectations. The jobs gains were distributed across many sectors. The unemployment rate fell from 4% to 3.8%, getting close to pre-pandemic levels. The number of people who said Covid fears were preventing them from looking for work fell from 1.8 million to 1.2 million. The Labor Department data

The numbers were the latest indicator of robust economic health, as the U.S. emerges from the Omicron wave and continues to bounce back from pandemic-spurred recession. “This progress is the result of the new economic approach I talked about in the State of the Union — grow the economy from the bottom up and middle out,” Biden trumpeted in a statement.

Wage growth was mostly flat month over month, in a surprise to some economists. That’s a disappointment for workers struggling to keep pace with rising prices. On the flip side, wage growth itself is an inflationary pressure, so these numbers could foretell a slight respite. The jobs report likely won’t change Fed Chair JEROME POWELL’s plans to raise interest rates, WSJ’s Nick Timiraos reports.

Notable caveat, via AP’s Christopher Rugaber: “Friday’s hiring figures were collected before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has sent oil prices surging and has escalated risks and uncertainties for economies in Europe and the rest of the world.”

POLL OF THE DAY — An outlier, or the start of something new? The White House will be hoping it’s the latter when they see the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, which finds a potential rally-around-the-flag effect as Biden’s approval rating rises 8 points from last month to 47%. Independents’ support for Biden’s handling of Ukraine jumped 17 points (and Democrats’ support increased by even more).

— Also notable: Sixty-nine percent of poll respondents said they would support the sanctions the U.S. has levied against Russia even if they raise energy prices.

Happy Friday afternoon.

There’s no good way to roll back mask mandates

We have to roll back pandemic restrictions someday. Why is it so hard now?

A person wears a US flag face mask at an MLS soccer match in Seattle on February 27. Ted S. Warren/AP

Near the end of February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told states they could lift masking recommendations for about 70 percent of the US population. The CDC is now using new metrics to decide when restrictions should kick in, with more focus on local hospitalizations and a higher threshold of community infections.

Even in a crowded news cycle, the usual deluge of diverging opinions quickly followed. Prominent figures in public health praised the move on social media and in op-eds, but there was also robust criticism of the substance and messaging of the new guidelines. Rolling back pandemic restrictions can be almost as difficult as rolling them out in the first place: The science of starting public health interventions is just more developed than the science of stopping them.

Some suggested it was a mistake to assume future variants would not be more severe than omicron; others wished the guidelines had included metrics based on wastewater surveillance. There were concerns about the recommendation that certain people consult their doctor about whether to wear a mask indoors, given the high proportion of Americans who are uninsured or don’t have a primary care provider. The new guidelines might not trigger restrictions such as masking until Covid-19 has spread enough to cause widespread deaths, two policy modelers added in an analysis on Twitter this week.

If he's right Putin is in danger....

Appearing on MSNBC's "Way Too Early," foreign relations expert Richard Haass noted reports coming out of Ukraine that Russian soldiers are sabotaging their own vehicles because they don't want to take part in the invasion is a bad omen for Vladimir Putin.

Speaking with host Jonathan Lemire, Haass -- the president of the Council on Foreign Relations-- admitted that Russia's invasion may be unstoppable but in the long-term may turn into a nightmare for the Russian strongman.

"If you believe Vladimir Putin, his invasion of Ukraine is going according to plan," host Lemire began before adding, "That's a dubious assessment, but still what he said during a virtual meeting of his security council yesterday. Putin continued to push false claims that Nazis are in control of the Ukrainian government."

"The speech was intended to push back against reports of logistical problems slowing down the Russian army as well as intelligence from the Pentagon that some Russian troops are surrendering or sabotaging their own vehicles rather than fighting," Lemire stated before asking Haass for comment.

'"I don't think there's any way, Jonathan, he can get his original plan back on track because that ship has sailed," Haass explained, "He was counting on very little resistance from Ukraine, he had no respect for Zelenskyy, he thought the United States after Afghanistan had no stomach."

"Europe he also had contempt for, particularly Germany," he continued. "So he underestimated his opposition, overestimated the capability of his own forces. So now we are clearly on Plan B. Now he is basically turning to quantity, if you will, more than quality to essentially level big parts of Ukraine. But because he is who he is, because he is an autocrat, he has to be infallible. He can never admit that he made a mistake, so that's what you had yesterday. I don't know what the word is in Russian, but it must be something like spinsky."

Reacting to reports that Russian soldiers are sabotaging their own mission, Hass, explained, "Clearly they have more troubles. The Russians aren't used to fighting this kind of war. This isn't what they did in Syria -- it is at a scale they're not used to. The equipment looks old, the troops don't look well-trained, they're not motivated, they don't seem to understand what it is they're doing and why, so I think this is of a larger piece.

The idea that there might be some troops sabotaging is really interesting. It doesn't seem to be happening at scale, but this has got to be Putin's nightmare because essentially he depends upon his security forces, not just the soldiers but obviously inside the country. That's any autocrat's nightmare, that as protests begin to mount that the security forces either get overwhelmed or show sympathy with the protesters."

Somebody might take him out

Ukraine is not part of NATO so sad story but we don't want huge battles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused NATO leadership of giving the "green light for further bombing of Ukrainian cities" by refusing at Friday's summit to establish a "no-fly" zone over Ukraine, saying those who oppose the move bear responsibility for civilian deaths going forward.

Why it matters: The furious new tone from Zelensky reflects his growing frustration with NATO's refusal to "close the sky" — a step he believes would change the trajectory of the war, but that NATO fears would spark a direct conflict with Russia

Tucker Carlson’s history of pro-Kremlin, anti-Ukraine propaganda

Tucker Carlson’s dizzying mess of spin and deflection on Russia’s war in Ukraine

WRITTEN BY NIKKI MCCANN RAMIREZ, JANE LEE & ALICIA SADOWSKI

COMMENT

As Russian missiles rain down across Ukraine, Fox News finds itself scrambling to find its footing after weeks of downplaying the mounting crisis and shifting blame for escalating tensions away from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Among Fox’s cacophony of coverage throughout the last month, Tucker Carlson’s voice once again rang the loudest.

In 2019, Carlson exclaimed on air that he was, in fact, “root[ing] for Russia” in what was then a simmering conflict in Ukraine, before quickly backtracking when the comment drew immediate backlash. Carlson would eventually argue to his viewers that “we should probably take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine.”

As the possibility of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia escalated from a theoretical possibility to an impending crisis, Carlson insisted that Russia’s military buildup and the looming threat of war were fundamentally inconsequential to American national interests. Carlson levied a steady campaign against intervention on behalf of Ukraine, downplaying reports from the intelligence community and decrying conversations about possible interventions as hysteria by warmongers desperate to lead America into another quagmire like the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He further attempted to frame the Ukrainian government as an authoritarian regime undeserving of American sympathies. Carlson’s efforts to downplay Russia’s threat to Ukraine, and his repeated justification of the impending invasion, were significant enough for Russian state TV to air them as part of its domestic propaganda.

Fear of Martial Law Sparks Russian Exodus

“Thousands of Russians are rushing to flee the country ahead of this weekend, as rumors swirl that Vladimir Putin could soon declare martial law,
close the borders
and crack down even harder on domestic dissent,” Axios reports.

“For as devastating as the humanitarian situation in Ukraine has become, widespread suffering is rapidly arriving at Russia’s own doorstep.”
________

People are actually trying to get out of Russia where the sanctions are DEVASTATING the Russian economy, sending it into free fall.

Putin is shutting down the last vestiges of what little free press they had, and yet people can still get information in various ways.

Putin is threatening severe consequences for anyone who spreads "fake news" about what really is happening in Ukraine.

Some Russian soldiers are actally disabling their own vehicles so they won't have to take part in what Putin is ordering them to do. Others are telling their surprised parents who thought they were only exercises that it really is an invasion and out and out war.

Some Ukrainians who speak Russian are talking to the soldiers, saying "Here, take my cell phone. Call your mother back home and tell her what you really are doing here and what you are being commanded to do. Tell your people back home what really is happening, how you are destroying people's homes, and how the people here have not attacked us."

"Tell them Putin lies. You are NOT fighting 'Nazis.'"

Instances of suicide are being reported among Russian soldiers.
