Tesla CEO Elon Musk urged the United States to increase its oil and gas production following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, despite the negative impact on his company. “Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately. Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures,” Musk tweeted on Friday. “Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports,” he added.
Suddenly everyone is on board will the expansion of fossil fuels now that we get that our other options are not actually really tangibly available. We cannot move to solar tomorrow or wind or nuclear or anything "green". There is one real tangible requirement for our energy right now and that is oil. Unfortunately Russia has a lot of it. As long as we need foreign oil, we cannot never really be independent.
Reality is that we are literally buying oil from Russia right now, adding rubles to their coffers. We are, in essence, financing the death and destruction of Ukrainian cities and towns. The reason is because of our horrible policy of believing that the production of oil is somehow better for the environment if it is done in other places in the world with less oversight and regulation. That somehow it makes the lily white liberal feel better if America drills for less oil. Well congratulations! Putin thanks you!

Putin warned that Ukraine will be 'blamed' for losing its statehood if its leaders 'continue doing what they are doing'
1h ago
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday called sanctions imposed on his country "akin to a declaration of war" and warned that Ukraine could lose its statehood if its leaders "continue doing what they are doing," according to The New York Times.
Putin, increasingly isolated from the West as he continues his military advance throughout Ukraine, rejected the country's resistance against his escalating invasion.
"The current leadership needs to understand that if they continue doing what they are doing, they risk the future of Ukrainian statehood," Putin said during a meeting in Moscow. "If that happens ... they will have to be blamed for that."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has remained defiant in the face of Russia's attacks, rejecting offers to leave the country as he guides his citizenry through the conflict.
"Our military, our national guard, our national police, our territory defense, special service, nationals of Ukraine, please carry on. We will win. Glory to Ukraine," Zelensky steadfastly exclaimed during a speech last week.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that allied governments have held talks regarding the line of succession should Zelensky be captured or murdered by Russian forces, as a way to ensure that there is some semblance of independent Ukrainian governance in the event that Putin installs a puppet leader.
Putin on Saturday also excoriated the economic sanctions placed on Russia by Western countries, calling the penalties "akin to a declaration of war," as the country's ruble has tanked in recent days and its economy has begun to stumble.
The Russian leader then said that his country's ultimate desires had been made clear to Ukrainian leadership.
"Our proposals are on the table with the group of negotiators from Kyiv," he said. "Hopefully, they will respond positively to that."
Putin then said that he all faith in the Russian military forces that have invaded Ukraine.
"Our army will solve all tasks — I don't doubt it for a second," he said. "This is confirmed by how the operation is ongoing. Everything is being done according to a plan, as the General Staff planned it."
Putin also rejected Ukrainian calls for a no-fly zone, which he said would be a "catastrophic" move.
"Warehouses with weapons and ammunition, aviation, air defense systems — it takes time to destroy air defense systems," he said. "This work is practically done — that's why there are demands to impose a no-fly zone. The realization of that demand would bring catastrophic results not only to Europe, but to the whole world."
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) leaders have been reluctant to heed Ukrainian wishes for a no-fly zone in an attempt to avoid a larger war.
Last week, White House press secretary Jen Psaki tamped down requests for a no-fly zone.
"That is definitely escalatory, that would potentially put us in a place where we are in a military conflict with Russia. That is not something [President Joe Biden] wants to do," Psaki said. "Those are all the reasons why that's not a good idea."
WSJ says that if we actually quit importing oil from Russia...
What might happen if the U.S. and other countries slow the flow of Russian crude?
Moves to hamper the flow of Russian crude could be interpreted by the oil market as another hit to already tight global supplies, which could further raise costs on consumers. The U.S. and other major oil-consuming nations said that they would release 60 million barrels from emergency stockpiles to boost global supplies.
Still, oil prices have continued to rise and briefly surged past $115 a barrel Thursday for the first time since 2008, after closing above $110 a barrel a day earlier. Some refiners were refusing to buy Russian oil due to the risk that they could be ensnared by sanctions, as the war triggered a reordering of the world’s oil flows.

If the President decides to stop Putin, by cutting imported oil, he will be doing the right thing, but people like you will insult him and call him Sleepy Joe Biden.
If they decide to block it, it might be the final phase of the Ukraine war..

I think the Reverend contributes significant amounts of evidence to counter this blog's pro Putin propaganda.
I always find it interesting that liberals now try to label any dissent from their own opinions as propaganda... doing it even today as they are starting to realize that they were wrong about Covid and that those who were right all along where the ones censored and labeled propaganda.
Think about CNN demand to the 700,000 people who listen to them on cable news that Joe Rogan was taking an animal dewormer (because they didn't know the difference or wanted to lie). Demanding that he was providing disinformation to his 9 million viewers...
While all along, ivermectin was being used all over the world as a Covid treatment.... and CNN was actually providing false information and disinformation... but wanted the truth censored because it wasn't part of their narrative.
Liberal narrative was largely wrong about Covid.
Now they want a narrative that Putin is stupid, that the Ukrainians are winning the war, that somehow Joe Biden should be given some political credit for something....
and anything suggesting different is "propaganda".
and that if it ever pointed out that there is the alternative position that this is war full of propaganda on both sides and that nobody probably ultimately knows what the fuck Putin had planned and that nobody really has a clue what is going to ultimately happen.
What we do know by reason of reality is that anyone suggesting the short war (that Ukraine would roll over or that Russia was not prepared for more than 6-7 days) was wrong. Ironically both of those positions have only been pushed by the left. It's the left that largely believed that everyone "expected" a quick war and it was the left that almost exclusively fell for the rumors that the Russians only had a week of supplies and would not be able to function any longer than that.
It might not have been an accident that not long before that rumored "week level" that Putin engaged a 40 mile long convoy and started positioning war ships down south to attack Ukraine from there. In fact, most of the only real progress for the Russian Army seems to have come over the past few days.
Maybe Putin is stupid or maybe he knows exactly what he is doing or maybe the truth falls somewhere in the middle - that this was tougher than they had hoped for, but that they had also prepared for the worst.
Opinions at this time are going to be a lot like assholes. Everyone has them, and what is coming out is a flaming pile of shit.
I think it's best if we just actually watch what is happening and try not to accept every opinion that backs up or own as the gospel and everything else as propaganda. We already had that war of information during Covid. Those with the power to control the information were getting it wrong. Perhaps we should remember that... or perhaps to some of you the actual "Truth" doesn't matter
Scott, he's actually doing well enough. Because the polls will show that he is not fucking crazy like Indy said about you.

How the West Marshaled a Stunning Show of Unity Against Russia
In a few frantic days, the West threw out the playbook it used for decades against the Kremlin and isolated Russia with unparalleled sanctions and penalties.

LONDON — The day after Russian tanks and troops poured across the Ukrainian border on Feb. 24, NATO leaders received a deeply frightening message. The alliance’s secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, opened an emergency video summit by warning that President Vladimir V. Putin had “shattered peace in Europe” and that from now on, he would openly contest the continent’s security order.
However unlikely, Mr. Stoltenberg told the leaders, it was no longer unthinkable that Mr. Putin would attack a NATO member. Such a move would trigger the collective defense clause in the North Atlantic Treaty, opening the door to the ultimate nightmare scenario: a direct military conflict with Russia.
President Biden, who had dialed in from the White House Situation Room, spoke up swiftly. Article 5 was “sacrosanct,” he said, referring to the “one for all, all for one” principle that has anchored NATO since its founding after World War II. Mr. Biden urged allied leaders to step up and send reinforcements to Europe’s eastern flank, according to multiple officials briefed on the call.
Within hours, NATO had mobilized its rapid response force, a kind of military SWAT team, for the first time in history to deter an enemy. It was one in an avalanche of precedent-shattering moves, unfolding in ministries and boardrooms from Washington to London and Brussels to Berlin. In a few frantic days, the West threw out the standard playbook that it had used for decades and instead marshaled a stunning show of unity against Russia’s brutal aggression in the heart of Europe.

The Genius's invasion stumbled from the outset, a strategic miscalculation on the part of Putin, " he explained. "He listened to his military commanders who were lying to him. These are not ready forces. That convoy that we've seen that's trying to get into Kyiv, those soldiers have been in those vehicles, it's freezing cold. Having been in those conditions, I know exactly what they're doing. they're leaving their vehicles on, running their fuel out. They're running out of fuel, they're running out of food, they're now running out of patience for their leadership."
"You've got some significant problems that are taking place right now," he added. "Putin has made a tremendous miscalculation in terms of what he can try to achieve, and so now he's going to try to pick up the pacing and the way he picks up the pace, he does it with this incredible blunt instrument called the Russian military. There's no precision, no discipline. they're going to try to start to level every objective they can."
So I put a map up from the BBC showing the progression of Russian troops in Ukraine and the idiots here call it "propaganda".
Propaganda: "information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view."
The map is a factual item of fact. The same (or similar) maps can be found at the NYT, CNN, and many other media sites. There is no intent to mislead or to promote any particular political cause.
The map serves to give a realistic viewpoint of what is happening in the war between Russia and Ukraine. It almost seems that if that realistic viewpoint doesn't mesh well with the opinions some of you recieve from your favorite political analyst (who seem more interested in Biden's approvals than Ukraine's well being)... that you just discount it as propaganda.
It's actually little more than cognitive dissonance at this point.
I see no reason to sugar coat something or pretend something that isn't necessarily true or repeat much of the misinformation that has been provided. THat being said I have got caught up in some of that by mistake. The original information about the nuclear power plant was largely wrong or exaggerated.

Perhaps it is just me...
But I have developed an extremely healthy amount of skepticism for our so called official government "experts" at this point in time. Perhaps it was the Covid situation, where much of what we were told was wrong and some of it was even blatant lies. More to the point, the amount of "following" that was done by people of these experts is truly amazing. It's as if people get "scared' and just cling to whomever steps up and demands that they have the authority to demand that they are correct. Has Dr Fauci famously said. I am science.
We (as a Government) couldn't even figure out that a fake Russian dossier was fake, providing 2 years and millions of dollars in investigation costs to try to prove what never actually happened (which was another great example of our Government being spectacularly wrong, being dishonest, and even hiding things from the American public)....
What both hold true is that they seem to be politically divisive situations and they pushed a political position that ended up being completely out of touch with the facts.
Now we have a slew of military experts that are telling us that they understand the Russian military strategy and they are telling us that they know exactly what Putin is thinking 100% of the time. They seem extremely smart about this now... but again... some of the predictions (like Russia had planned for no more than a week of supplies) are already crashing down. Yet the next thing they tell us, we are supposed to believe 100%.
Forgive me if I don't believe that these experts have a first fucking clue what Putin or the Russians actually had planned or had planned for. There are alternate theories (and some people are even saying them outloud) that seem to be more inline with the map we see, but do not (to the dismay of many) declare that Putin is an idiot and is losing at every turn.
To suggest that we know (today) which opinions are correct and which opinions are incorrect is an exercise in futility. To suggest that alternate theories that are out there... are just "propaganda" is downright stupid.
The crew on board a Russian military helicopter were less fortunate. Video shows a missile hitting the transport. It crashes seconds later in a ball of fire. Meanwhile, in the Kharkiv region Ukrainian troops staged a counterattack, seizing Russian weapons and armoured vehicles. These were immediately redeployed in the existential fight against Moscow.

What ultimately happened was that everyone involved was forced to admit it was all bullshit. But only after deals were cut that kept everyone involved from facing any consequences beyond "forced retirement with a full pension."

Allies Discuss Security of Ukraine’s Leaders
“Allied governments have been discussing how to secure the line of succession in Ukraine in the event President Volodymyr Zelensky is captured or killed by Russian forces,“ the New York Times reports.
“The concerns are primarily about making sure there is still an independent Ukrainian government in some form, even if Russia finds a way to install a puppet leadership in Kyiv, the capital.
Having an independent leader to recognize, Western officials said, will help prevent any Russian-backed leaders from gaining legitimacy.”

Bolton Says Putin Was Waiting on U.S. Pullout from NATO
Former national security adviser John Bolton that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin was “waiting” for a possible United States withdrawal from NATO, claiming former President Donald Trump would have likely made such a move had he been reelected, The Hill reports.
TRUMP WAS ALWAYS JUST ITCHIN' TO WITHDRAW FROM NATO
You probably won't read it before you insult me
Volodymyr Zelensky's administration, wrote in the New York Times this week to plead for more assistance, including the enforcement of a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
To its credit, the Biden administration continues to ratchet up pressure on Russia while proposing more aid for Ukraine. President Biden reportedly will ask Congress for $10 billion in new aid to Ukraine over and above the $1.4 billion already provided.
About 20 countries, including members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, are sending weapons into Ukraine to fight the Russian military.
On Thursday, Biden also announced new sanctions on more than a dozen Russian oligarchs and their families. Some members of Congress are also suggesting that the U.S. ban oil and gas imports from Russia, an idea the administration hasn’t embraced but should consider.
It is possible that stronger sanctions and an infusion of military hardware will help the Ukrainians to continue their resistance. Faced with the prospect of a long and costly occupation of Ukraine, Putin might relent in his aggression, agree to a significant cease-fire and ultimately withdraw his forces. Stronger sanctions might also make it harder for Russia to menace other nations, including NATO members.
The proposal for a no-fly zone, however, is one that Biden and his advisors are right to reject. The reason is simple: Such a zone would be meaningful only if the U.S. and its allies were willing to enforce it by shooting down aircraft that violated it.
Targeting a Russian plane over Ukraine would involve direct hostilities between the U.S. and Russia, as would the deployment of American troops to assist in the defense of Ukraine, another option Biden has ruled out, including in his State of the Union address Tuesday.
If it were a NATO member, Ukraine would benefit from Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which says that an armed attack on one alliance member will be considered an attack against all. Biden cited that distinction in his speech when he said: “Our forces are not going to Europe to fight in Ukraine but to defend our NATO allies in the event that Putin decides to keep moving west.”
Yet it isn’t just because of NATO that Biden is unwilling to deploy U.S. forces in Ukraine or approve a no-fly zone against Russia. A direct military confrontation between the two nuclear superpowers would be terribly, existentially dangerous, even if Putin hadn’t announced recently that he was directing Russian nuclear forces to be placed on “special combat readiness.”
It’s understandable that Ukrainians would want the U.S. and its allies to do more to help repel the Russian invaders. But a confrontation between NATO and Russia could increase the possibility of a catastrophic conflict that would be global — and unimaginably deadly — in its consequences.

Sean Penn recalls meeting Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky: 'I was endlessly impressed and moved by him'
Yahoo

Sean Penn praises Ukraine President Zelensky in an interview with Anderson Cooper about his experience during the Russian invasion.
________
Sean Penn spoke about his recent meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in a March 4 interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
The Mystic River star, who is working on a documentary about Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, said that President Zelensky, who has been applauded for standing up for his country in the wake of the attack, exhibited great “courage and dignity” in recent weeks.
“The way that he has unified that country … I think that Mr. Putin added to paving the way for that,” Penn, who recently documented his experience of heading to the Polish border on social media, explained to Cooper. “But this is such an extraordinary moment, and I was endlessly impressed and moved by him, and terrified for him and for Ukraine.”
Penn, who founded the organization CORE as a way to help communities in need, also called out the “heartbreaking” effects that the Russian invasion will have around the world as “this democracy, this symbol of free dreaming, is being assaulted.”
“[Ukrainians] are fighting for their lives, and will continue to fight for their lives, and I feel that we as Americans are plummeting off a cliff — the top of which is our flag which represents all of our dreams and the best of our dreams,” he explained. “We’re plummeting where it will go out of our sight. I don’t know the answers. I don’t know if ‘no fly zones’ will create a nuclear war. I do know that we have to invest everything that we have to support the Ukrainian people, and support President Zelensky, or we will not have a memory of what America used to be.”
The Licorice Pizza actor also called for support of Russian people who do not want the invasion of Ukraine, saying they are “under a threat [if they] speak out.”
“There’s such a closeness between Ukrainian people and Russian people,” he continued. “This thing only makes sense as an exploitation by the powerful.”
Penn recommended the documentary Winter on Fire, about Ukraine’s 2014 fight for freedom, which Netflix is currently making available for free on YouTube.
Penn headed to Ukraine in February to work on his documentary and assist the people of the country, many of whom were fleeing to other countries to escape the war. He echoed his comments to Cooper in an earlier statement, saying of the Russian attack in February, "Already a brutal mistake of lives taken and hearts broken, and If he doesn't relent, I believe Mr. Putin will have made a most horrible mistake for all of humankind. President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people have risen as historic symbols of courage and principle. Ukraine is the tip of the spear for the democratic embrace of dreams. If we allow it to fight alone, our soul as America is lost."
While Penn is no longer in Ukraine after making it to the Polish border, it is unclear if he is back in the United States.
I am pro-Zelenskyy...
