Very difficult to find an actual casualty tracker for the Russia Ukraine war

To read the media, the only casualties are Russian Soldiers and Ukrainian civilians

You bing search the Ukraine Russia war casualties and you will get estimates from Ukraine as to how many Russian soldiers have been killed, injured, or captured along with how many civilians have been killed. It's as if there are no Ukrainian soldiers anywhere actually dying. To take this without question would make it out as if the Ukrainians have some sort of elite superforce who are killing thousands of Russian soldiers, while the Russians are only capable of bombing residential and commercial areas.

As it stand, the Ukrainian Government is claiming that nearly 15,000 Russian soldiers have been killed, with thousands more wounded or captured. They are claiming that less than 10% of that figure (1300) represents how many Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. The Ukrainian Government is claiming about 4000 civilians have died since the conflict started.

The Russians (on the flip side) are claiming that about 3000 Ukrainian soldiers have died versus less than 1000 Russian soldiers. They make no estimates as to how many civilians they have slaughtered over the past few weeks. But you have to dig pretty hard to find this information. It's as if our American media is "only" reporting the Ukrainian side of things. Let's be clear, in war there is propaganda on both sides. Only a fool would take anyone at their word.

When all is said and done and you take estimates from both sides as well as UN and American estimates and average it all out we see something like this:

  • 2500 Ukrainian soldiers dead
  • 7000 Russian soldiers dead

I have no idea how accurate that is or whether it makes much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. Putin has over a million Russians in either active service or military reserve. They had somewhere between 150,000 to 175,000 amassed at the border, and they believe that well over 100,000 are currently in Ukraine. Ukrainians have about 200,000 military members and thousands of average citizens acting as militias. The real damage is being done to infrastructure, commercial property, and residential homes. If the Russians are not blowing up a mall or hospital, the Ukrainians are blowing up their own bridges and highways to prevent Russian advances.

It will take years and billions to rebuild what is left of Ukraine when this is all said and done. Very likely the Russians will get much of what they were asking for when this all started by the time any sort of war ending ceasefire is agreed to. Whether or not that will be viewed as a win for Ukraine or a win for Russia will be at question. But it seems like in war there are never any winners. Only the side that loses the least.

White House Considered Sending Gas Cards

A Tenuous Balance in Confronting Russia
March 19, 2022 at 11:50 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 65 Comments

“In the first weeks of the first major European land war of the 21st century, the United States has sent tank-killing weapons to Ukrainian forces, but not fighter jets. It is equipping embattled Ukrainian troops with lightweight ‘kamikaze’ attack drones, but not, at least in an obvious way, conducting an aggressive cyberwar to degrade Russia’s technological advantage,” the New York Times reports.

“The White House will commit no American or NATO planes to the skies above Ukraine, a move American officials fear could risk turning a regional war into a global conflagration, but it is providing Ukraine with missiles that could accomplish the same task of destroying Russian aircraft.”

“Such is the tenuous balance the Biden administration has tried to maintain as it seeks to help Ukraine lock Russia in a quagmire without inciting a broader conflict with a nuclear-armed adversary or cutting off potential paths to de-escalation.”

USA Today: Lindsey Graham called for Putin’s assassination. Even discussing it brings danger to US, experts say.

The Russian president has his own complex calculus about when the military support to Ukraine from the United States and its NATO allies crosses the line. He has his own reasons not to escalate, given the combined power of the NATO members and his own military’s evident difficulties against Ukrainian forces. But he is also unlikely to accept defeat or a stalemate in Ukraine without further testing American resolve, despite explicit public warnings from Washington against the use of chemical, biological or even nuclear weapons.

American intelligence about Mr. Putin’s decision making is maddeningly imprecise, and the West does not have a strong track record predicting what he might consider an aggression that cannot be tolerated. William J. Burns, the C.I.A. director, told Congress this month that Mr. Putin’s views had “hardened over the years.”

If we stop the Russians from capturing any part of Ukraine, the NATO alliance will never disappear like Putin and Trump wanted for years ago. In 2018 he made it clear, but his staffers talked him out it.. I can provide evidence, but because it will come from the fake news reporting, you probably will say the I was brainwashed..

But the more I read about Putin, this war will still be going on during the next election cycle. But if they don't capture the capital city, and the fact that most people support the President in regards to Ukraine, the Democrats might not lose as usual.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the phrase "national interest" has become something of a blasphemy. Certain thinkers in the "realist" school of foreign policy analysis have drawn social media ire for articulating the interests which might motivate Russia's invasion of the Ukraine or questioning whether the United States has a significant interest in intervening there.

Increasingly in our censorious modern world, any attempt to understand the behavior of an actor (in this case Russia) is treated as a de facto endorsement of that actor's behavior. This is not a new development. During the Global War on Terror those of us who tried to articulate the ideological framework within which jihadists operated were accused of believing the same things as the terrorists themselves.

But to recognize that Russia has long opposed the expansion of Western power into its near abroad is not the same as defending its security claims. And recognizing the Russian demand in no way denies Ukraine's own interest in preventing itself from being dominated by its larger neighbor. To recognize the interests of one nation is not to deny the interests of another, nor does it make a moral claim as to which set of interests are "right" or "wrong."

But the idea of "national interest" itself is in profound opposition to the Progressive vision of the global order. If countries act according to national interests, and those interests' conflict, then disputes between nations may prove inevitable. Eliminating the idea that nations have interests does not eliminate those interests, but it does make predicting and mitigating the conflicts that result harder.

Understanding the interests of other nations may be easier if we first understand our own. . .

“Isolationism” is a government policy or doctrine of taking no role in the affairs of other nations. A government’s policy of isolationism, which that government may or may not officially acknowledge, is characterized by a reluctance or refusal to enter into treaties, alliances, trade commitments, or other international agreements.

War on Terror: A Rebirth of Isolationism?
While the terrorist attacks of Sept 11, 2001, initially spawned a spirit of nationalism unseen in America since World War II, the ensuing War on Terror may have resulted in the return of American isolationism.

Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq claimed thousands of American lives. At home, Americans fretted through a slow and fragile recovery from a Great Recession many economists compared to the Great Depression of 1929. Suffering from war abroad and a failing economy at home, America found itself in a situation very much like that of the late 1940s when isolationist feelings prevailed.

Now as the threat of another war in Syria looms, a growing number of Americans, including some policymakers, are questioning the wisdom of further U.S. involvement.

“We are not the world’s policeman, nor its judge and jury,” stated U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Florida) joining a bipartisan group of lawmakers arguing against U.S. military intervention in Syria. “Our own needs in America are great, and they come first.”

In his first major speech after winning the 2016 presidential election, President-Elect Donald Trump expressed the isolationist ideology that became one of his campaign slogans — “America first.”

“There is no global anthem, no global currency, no certificate of global citizenship,” Mr. Trump said on December 1, 2016. “We pledge allegiance to one flag, and that flag is the American flag. From now on, it's going to be America first."

In their words, Rep. Grayson, a progressive Democrat, and President-Elect Trump, a conservative Republican, may have announced the rebirth of American isolationism.

GRIM FIGURES Russia-Ukraine war death toll: How many people have died during the invasion?
Jon RogersMolly Mulshine
Updated: 12:32 ET, Mar 8 2022

MORE than 11,000 Russian troops are believed to have been killed since the invasion of Ukraine began last week, according to reports.

As the bitter conflict rages on, that grim tally will only rise, along with those injured.

What is the Russia-Ukraine war death toll?

As with any ongoing military conflict accurate and independently verified figures are hard to find.

Both sides are playing out a propaganda battle as well as a military one as claims and counter-claims are made.

Ukraine’s presidential adviser said on Thursday, March 3, 2022, that more than 7,000 Russian troops had been killed so far.

On Sunday, March 6, 2022, Ukraine claimed the death toll had risen to 11,000 Russian troops.

On Tuesday, March 8, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin lost another of his top generals as Vitaly Gerasimov was gunned down.

This comes after Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky was killed by a Ukrainian sniper.

CLAIM:
Russian corpses 'taken to Belarus to disguise death toll' of Ukraine invasion

DEAD OF NIGHT Russian corpses 'taken to Belarus to disguise death toll' of Ukraine invasion

CLAIM:
Ukraine's Ministry of Defence said: "“Russia has not suffered so many casualties during the fighting in any of its armed conflicts since its inception.”

An American estimate released the same day was more conservative, putting the number of Russian casualties at 4,500.

On March 6, Russia's ministry of defence claimed only 498 of its troops had been killed in Ukraine and a further 1,597 wounded - the first time it has admitted any casualties since the conflict began on February 24.

Russia did not immediately respond to Ukraine's updated claim that the invaders' death toll had ballooned to 11,000.

Ukraine also said that more than 2,870 Ukrainian soldiers and "nationalists" fighting on the side of Russia have been killed, and around 3,700 wounded.

The war is also claiming the lives of civilian men, women and children.

Russian troops appeared to fire on families as they attempted to flee Irpin in early March.

How many people have been injured in the Ukraine invasion?
Russia admitted on March 2, 2022, that 1,597 of its troops had been injured.

In addition to military injuries, 861 civilians in Ukraine have been hurt, the UN Human Rights office announced.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson accused his Russian counterpart of committing war crimes.

Johnson accused Putin of "abhorrent" attacks on Ukraine's capital Kyiv and in Kharhiv while video footage appears to show vacuum bombs being used by Russian forces.

The killer weapon uses the oxygen of the surrounding air to produce a high-temperature explosion.

Western officials fear Putin will turn to total war and his attacks will also include other weapons such as the horrifying "hail" launchers

Totally unrelated but since I was a kid I watched Star Wars on a 13 inch black and white screen...I just watched this.

In January 2020, Stacey Abrams, who is now running to become the Democratic governor of Georgia, told FiveThirtyEight that, by 2040, she would become president of the United States.

It would take her far less time to become president of United Earth.

On Thursday, Abrams made a cameo in the final minutes of the Season 4 finale of “Star Trek: Discovery.” In the episode, she walks off a spaceship, cape over her shoulders, and is greeted as “Madam President.” Abrams, president of a planetary state known as United Earth, agrees to rejoin an interstellar alliance that United Earth had previously broken away from. The episode ends with Abrams telling the show’s protagonist, Capt. Michael Burnham: “There’s a lot of work to do. Are you ready for that?”

“I am,” Burnham responds. “Let’s get to it.”

Abrams has long been a Star Trek fan. As Sarah Lyall of the New York Times wrote in March 2019, Abrams has “seen every iteration of ‘Star Trek’ and can recite with picayune detail the obscure plot points from incidents buried deep in the canon.” In her book “Lead From the Outside,” Abrams uses Star Trek scenes to illustrate how she solves problems. And she told the Times she had stayed up late binge-watching “Discovery” in the middle of her last bid for Georgia governor, in 2018.

So Abrams happily agreed to play the part when the show’s creators approached her in 2021, Michelle Paradise, the show’s executive producer, told Variety. Abrams’s one condition was that the creators not spoil the show for her and give her only the directions necessary to complete her scene, Paradise said.

Bolton, in an interview with Post opinions editor at large Michael Duffy, said the former president came close to pulling the United States out of NATO in 2018, a claim he originally made in a memoir published in 2020. In his book, Bolton wrote that he had to convince Trump not to quit NATO in the middle of a 2018 summit.

On Friday, Bolton, who served as a top Trump adviser from 2018 to 2019, offered more details on their conversations that day, saying he “had my heart in my throat at that NATO meeting.”

“I didn’t know what the president would do,” Bolton said. “He called me up to his seat seconds before he gave the speech. And I said, look, go right up to the line, but don’t go over it. I sat back down. I had no idea what he’d do.”

Bolton said he thought Trump would “put his foot over it, but at least he didn’t withdraw then.”

“In a second Trump term, I think he may well have withdrawn from NATO,” Bolton said. “And I think [Russian President Vladimir] Putin was waiting for that.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Was that actually a step Trump was prepared to take? According to new reporting from the New York Times, the answer is an alarming yes.

There are few things that President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia desires more than the weakening of NATO, the military alliance among the United States, Europe and Canada that has deterred Soviet and Russian aggression for 70 years.Last year, President Trump suggested a move tantamount to destroying NATO: the withdrawal of the United States.Senior administration officials told The New York Times that several times over the course of 2018, Mr. Trump privately said he wanted to withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.... In the days around a tumultuous NATO summit meeting last summer, they said, Mr. Trump told his top national security officials that he did not see the point of the military alliance, which he presented as a drain on the United States.

Whether the Republican president understands this or not, NATO is almost certainly the most successful and important international alliance in modern world history.

It's also something Russian President Vladimir Putin hates and would love to see destroyed from within.

Retired Adm. James Stavridis, the former supreme allied commander of NATO, told the Times an American abandonment of the alliance would be "a geopolitical mistake of epic proportion." The retired admiral added, "Even discussing the idea of leaving NATO -- let alone actually doing so -- would be the gift of the century for Putin."

Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed, and the NATO alliance remains intact. But reading the report got me thinking about the list of recent revelations on this subject:

* Jan. 3: Trump publicly endorsed the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in the late 1970s, arguing that the Soviets "were right to be there." It was one of several recent examples of the Republican president endorsing Russian propaganda for no apparent reason.

You forgot that he supported the Russians in the late70,s.

Because he wants to be the first dictator of America.

China is not our friend. The President,s job just got harder

BEIJING, March 20 (Reuters) - A senior Chinese government official said on Saturday that sanctions imposed by Western nations on Russia over Ukraine are increasingly "outrageous".

Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng also acknowledged Moscow's point of view on NATO, saying the alliance should not further expand eastwards, forcing a nuclear power like Russia "into a corner".

China has yet to condemn Russia's action in Ukraine or call it an invasion, though it has expressed deep concern about the war. Beijing has also opposed economic sanctions on Russia over Ukraine, which it says are unilateral and are not authorised by the U.N. Security Council.

"The sanctions against Russia are getting more and more outrageous," Le said at security forum in Beijing, adding that Russian citizens were being deprived of overseas assets "for no reason".

"History has proven time and again that sanctions cannot solve problems. Sanctions will only harm ordinary people, impact the economic and financial system... and worsen the global economy."

Russia calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation" that it says is not designed to occupy territory but to destroy its neighbour's military capabilities and capture what it regards as dangerous nationalists.

In a call on Friday between Joe Biden and Xi Jinping, the U.S. president warned his Chinese counterpart of "consequences" if Beijing gave material support to Russia's attack, the White House said. read more

Moscow has demanded legally binding guarantees from NATO that it will stop its expansion and return to its 1997 borders.

"This pursuit of absolute security (by NATO) precisely leads to absolute non-security," Le said. "The consequences of forcing a major power, especially a nuclear power, into a corner are even more unimaginable."

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said this week that Ukraine could accept international security guarantees that stopped short of its longstanding aim to join NATO.

Just to let you real hate.

How today’s 'diversity' damages our military
Diversity sounds great. That's part of the problem. Today's "diversity," however, isn't what it used to be. Rather than diverse experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives — that promote healthy group decisions and outcomes — "diversity" has come to mean only race, ethnicity, and sex. Unfortunately, today's "diversity" is replacing our long, and largely successful, journey toward equal opportunity. We have moved the goalposts to the end of a new field — a field where equal racial and sex-based outcomes determine the score. In this new world, "diversity" has become an end unto itself, undermining the purpose of our military: winning wars. Here is why it is so damaging.

Today's diversity advocates measure organizational success by race/ethnicity and sex — factors that have nothing to do with performance or potential. Yet they are influencing accessions, advancements, and promotions across the force. Prioritizing racial and sex-based goals clearly undermines the importance of performance and merit. Sadly, today's military leaders are often downplaying talents, experience, and skills in favor of skin color and sex in their personnel decisions. The result is a less capable force with less capable leaders.

This new push for diversity also destroys trust. When merit and performance are downplayed in the name of quotas and goals, excellence is undermined. In this environment, leaders are increasingly doubted as representing the very best of the organization. Not only is this disheartening, but it also makes them question their leaders' abilities. If a leader, or commander, is seen as a "diversity hire," he will always be suspect. This is also devastating to the thousands of deserving minorities and women who are rightfully rising to the top on merit alone. Amid these growing doubts, trust is eroded.

Diversity programs also destroy the warrior culture by robbing it of its core ethos. This ethos is built, first and foremost, on accomplishing the mission. As soon as we elevate racial and sex-based quotas above this, the culture suffers. After all, diversity and unity are opposing concepts. Today's military is losing sight of the strength that comes from molding diverse people into a unified team. Instead, they are elevating diversity above the "unified" team, causing divisions. A warrior doesn't care about skin color, sex, or background. He cares about one thing: do you have what it takes to perform when the going gets tough and the consequences are life and death? Warriors want everyone to be judged by what they bring to the team — no favors, no quotas, no special considerations. LTG (Ret.) H.R. McMaster recently commented on this, writing, "Nothing could be more debilitating to combat effectiveness than adherence to CRT [Critical Race Theory]'s proposal that people be judged by identity category rather than by character and the ability to contribute to a team."

Finally, the sheer volume of diversity programs creates an unacceptable cost on military training. A training calendar is a zero-sum game. The more requirements we place on service members to learn about diversity, equity, inclusion, gender bias, and other social justice constructions, the less time they have to focus on critical war-fighting skills. Ask any service member about the volume of non-war-fighting topics he is required to train on each year, and you will be astounded. They continue to pile up and rarely go away.

____

It doesn't undermine our military, unless you really hate non white people, or, gay etc.

An outright attack on our military!???

Allowing people to compete on an equal level, for a job is not discrimination.

Pope Francis condemns 'inhuman and sacrilegious' war against Ukraine

Pope Francis on Sunday sharpened his rhetoric against Russia's shelling of Ukrainian civilians in its increasingly brutal invasion.

“All this is inhuman!" Francis said, according to a translation published by Vatican News, the Holy See's media portal.

"Indeed, it is also sacrilegious," he continued, "because it goes against the sacredness of human life, especially against defenseless human life, which must be respected and protected, not eliminated, and which comes before any strategy! Let us not forget: It is a cruelty, inhuman and sacrilegious.”

Francis made the remarks during his weekly Sunday address to pilgrims in Vatican City's St. Peter’s Square, where many of those gathered wore gold and blue, the colors of Ukraine's flag.

The pope’s condemnation of Russia's war against Ukraine represents a continuation of his activism on the issue. In the opening days of Russia's assault, Francis visited the Russian embassy to lobby for peace. On Ash Wednesday, earlier this month, Francis used his address to the world's 1.3 billion Catholics to call for public prayer to "appeal to the conscience of all those who have power over war and peace." And on Friday, Francis spoke at a gathering of European Catholic representatives, calling Russia's war against its smaller neighbor a "perverse abuse of power."

As Russia's attack has stalled, facing surprisingly fierce resistance from the Ukrainian military, the Kremlin has increased its bombardment — both artillery and missiles — of civilian areas. Over 3 million Ukrainian refugees have already fled their home country, according to the United Nations.

Many children, Francis noted Sunday, are suffering. He recalled his Saturday visit to Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital, a Vatican-run hospital in Rome, where he met wounded children who managed to escape the conflict.

“One of them is missing an arm; another was wounded in the head," Francis said.

Both Russia and Ukraine are predominantly Eastern Orthodox, but Francis's words carry significant weight on the world stage. Some of Moscow’s closest allies like Cuba are heavily Catholic — as are some of the countries maintaining defiant neutrality hoping to not antagonize Russia.

“Unfortunately, the violent aggression against Ukraine has not ceased," Francis said Sunday. "It is a senseless massacre in which atrocities are repeated every day. There is no justification for this. I plead with all actors in the international community to truly engage in bringing this abhorrent war to an end.”
