Zelenskyy challenges Biden to step up

“You are the leader of the nation, I wish you to be the leader of the world. Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.”

Zelenskyy gave a speech where he basically asked everyone from American President Biden, to the American Congress, to Americans, to American Idol judges to do more.
Zelenskyy, speaking to U.S. lawmakers from Kyiv, where he has chosen to remain even as Russian forces move on the city, thanked President Biden for his "personal involvement" and "sincere commitment to the defense of Ukraine," and the United States for the aid it has provided. "However, now it is true in the darkest time for our country, for the whole Europe, I call on you to do more," Zelenskyy said.

By more, he specifically means a no-fly Zone and some equipment (such as fighter jets) that would be capable of really turning the tide. Let's be clear here folks. If the Ukrainians were doing as well as many people make them out to be doing, then Zelenskyy wouldn't be literally going around begging for help.

To see someone who has been such an inspiration, showing true courage, and true leadership have to suck up to people who would rather not get their hands dirty here is sort of a sad thing to see.

I am rootin for Zelenskyy Reverend.

If you listen to Zelenskyy (which you apparently don't) you hear him plainly say that the United States needs to do more and that his expectations would be that Biden step up and be what the world expects of an American President.

I find it interesting that you say you are pulling for Ukraine, but when their leader gives a speech where he makes a challenge to Biden (which Biden will not step up to) - you ultimately side with Biden.

Which is actually siding with Putin.

Why would you do that?

Precisely:

The corporate media and Democrats are whipping up a moral panic around Ukraine that could deliver us right into World War III, all in an effort to win the 2022 midterms — and it looks as if more and more Republicans are falling for it.

Past is prologue, so let’s look at the recent past as a means to understand what’s happening.

Five years ago, all in an effort to overthrow a duly elected President Trump, Democrats, the media, and the Deep State fabricated the Russia Collusion Hoax.

When that failed, the murder of George Floyd was used as an excuse to burn and loot a countless number of Democrat-run cities.

When that failed, the China Flu was exploited to smash small businesses, dehumanize Trump voters, and stunt children’s growth using masks.

In all three cases, over a mere five years, the media and Democrats manipulated events into eras of neo-McCarthyism.

To begin with, there were the purity tests…

You were either against Trump or with Russia rigging our elections. You supported the domestic terrorists in Black Lives Matter or were a racist. You were either willing to mask little kids and destroy the livelihoods of vaccine skeptics and small businesses, or you were a serial killer.

These purity tests came with false idols we were required to worship: Robert Mueller, George Floyd, and Anthony Fauci.

This is what happens when you have a political party incapable of governing. The Democrat party’s elitism has cost them the working class. Additionally, almost every city they govern is a Third World-like Detroit or headed in that direction. They want gay porn taught in schools, mentally ill men sharing locker rooms with our daughters, kids masked forever, high gas prices, open borders… I could go on.

So, in an effort to distract from that, we’ve been hit with three neo-McCarthyism eras in a row, three moral panics, but number four is by far the most terrifying.

If our Air Force sends aircraft to shoot down Russian aircraft, over a foreign nation, it's an act of war.

The President as the commander in chief, he has the authority to shoot down Russian aircraft. It could be a nuclear war!

But do you really want a European war like in World War Two???

We are using everything but starting a war.

But because you really hate The President of the United States of America, you are in effect, undermining the United States of America and for which it stands.

It's good because it's true.

The Afghanistan surrender signaled to Putin that we no longer had a tolerance for armed conflict at any level. So Putin capitalizes on this very obvious fact and the whole world is shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you.

This ain't fucking rocket science. Couple President Magoo with 25 years of NATO encroachment on Russia's border and this outcome is as obvious as death, taxes, and the sun rising in the east in the morning.

World War III 'may have already started' with Russian invasion, Zelenskyy says
March 16, 2022, 9:50 AM PDT
Russia may have already started World War III, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with NBC News on Wednesday.

The outcome of Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine has yet to be decided, but it's possible the decision has already begun a path to a full-scale global war, Zelenskyy told “NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt when asked whether he understood concerns from President Joe Biden about escalating provocations.

"Nobody knows whether it may have already started. And what is the possibility of this war if Ukraine will fall, in case Ukraine will? It's very hard to say," Zelenskyy said. "And we've seen this 80 years ago, when the second world war had started ... nobody would be able to predict when the full scale war would start."

He further emphasized that the outcome of this war has the "whole civilization at stake."

President Biden announced Wednesday that the U.S. will provide Ukraine with an additional $800 million in military aid, including direct transfers of anti-aircraft systems and drones to help the Ukrainian military defend itself.

Why it matters: The announcement, which came just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered an emotional address to Congress pleading for more assistance, brings the total amount of military aid to Ukraine authorized in the past week to over $1 billion.

Biden directed an $200 million in military aid to be sent to Ukraine from his presidential drawdown authority on Saturday. The rest of the funding will come from a $13.6 billion aid package to Ukraine that Congress passed last week, which was divided between humanitarian and security assistance.

Details: The U.S. will directly transfer the following equipment to the Ukrainian military as part of the latest package, according to a White House fact sheet:

800 Stinger anti-aircraft systems2,000 Javelin anti-armor missiles1,000 light anti-armor weapons6,000 AT-4 anti-armor systems100 Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (armed drones)7,000 small arms for both military and civilian use (100 grenade launchers, 5,000 rifles, 1,000 pistols, 400 machine guns and 400 shotguns)Over 20 million rounds of ammunition25,000 sets of body armor25,000 helmets

The big picture: The U.S. provided $650 million in military aid to Ukraine in 2021, more than it had in the previous eight years that Ukraine had been fighting a war against Russian-backed forces in the east.

After Russia's large-scale invasion began, the Biden administration surged an additional $350 million into Ukraine."We're going to give Ukraine the arms to fight and defend themselves through all the difficult days ahead," Biden pledged on Wednesday.

What they're saying: "I want to thank President Zelensky for his passionate message this morning. I listened to it in the private residence. He was convincing and [it was] a significant speech," Biden said in his announcement.

"Now, I want to be honest with you. This could be a long and difficult battle. But he American people will be steadfast in our support and the people of Ukraine in the face of Putin's immoral, unethical attacks on civilian populations," he continued."We're united in our abhorrence of Putin's depraved onslaught and we're going to continue to have their backs as they fight for freedom, democracy, their very survival."

What to watch: Zelensky and bipartisan members of Congress have urged Biden to send advanced anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine in the absence of a NATO "no-fly" zone.

Acknowledging Zelensky's request, Biden said the U.S. has "identified" and is "helping Ukraine acquire longer-range anti-missile systems, and the munitions for those systems."That's likely a reference to the S-300 anti-aircraft systems possessed by NATO allies in Eastern Europe.

That's why I stand for the President and Zelensky against Putin.

Putin played with him!

NATO countries don't pay dues they agree to pay a certain percentage of their GNP toward their own national defense. Some did raise their defense spending during Trump's term but at least some of their rationale was based upon Trump's bizarre affinity for Putin and his constant threats to withdraw from NATO. Trump did continue some sanctions against Russia that had been put in place under the previous administrations and added a few more. But he never mentions that it was Congress that passed the major sanctions bill targeting Russia's energy and defense sectors on a bipartisan basis because they, too, were concerned about Trump's coziness with Putin. He signed the sanctions bill reluctantly, calling it "seriously flawed." As for the pipeline, his "stopping" it is wildly overstated. The U.S. and others were concerned about that pipeline long before Trump had ever heard of it. Trump did issue sanctions against the builders of the pipeline toward the end of his term, compelling one company to withdraw, but the job was finished by a Russian company. The vast majority of the pipeline was built during the Trump administration. When Biden came in they tried a different tack and waived some sanctions while adding on some others in the hopes of getting a diplomatic breakthrough with Germany on the issue. The invasion of Ukraine finally did the job and now the pipeline is kaput.

So, in other words, Trump is full of it as usual.

Still, he is in a bind on this issue. Regardless of his protestations to the contrary, everyone knows Trump is soft on Russia

Think of Trump as one of Putin's oligarchs. Everything makes more sense when you do

Think of Trump as one of Putin's oligarchs. Everything makes more sense when you do
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin (Wikimedia Commons)

The former president keeps telling on himself. During an appearance Sunday on Jeanine Pirro’s radio show on WABC, Donald Trump expressed, yet again, his sympathy for Russia’s reigning kleptocrat.

"He's got a big ego," Trump said of Vladimir Putin. “I think what's going on now is hard. I understand he's gotten rid of a lot of his generals."

They wanted to rebuild the Soviet Union. That’s what this is all about to a large extent. And then you say, what’s the purpose of this? They had a country. You could see it was a country where there was a lot of love and we’re doing it because, you know, somebody wants to make his country larger or he wants to put it back the way it was.

Sympathy, yes, but there’s more.

Sympathy is practical.

Whenever Trump is asked to comment on Putin’s 2014 capture of the Crimean peninsula or his invasion of Ukraine now, he gives these odd statements – odd because they never feature principles of freedom, sovereignty or any other aspect of the postwar international order.

His attention is drawn, instead, to strength and weakness, power and powerlessness. In that binary worldview, Putin (and by proxy Trump) is always strong, Putin’s enemies (and by proxy Trump’s enemies) are always weak. Good and bad, right and wrong, mean nothing. What matters is what can be done immediately to satiate insatiable need.

Fascism is practical like that.
