538 offers opinion on Jan 6th commission

Americans Are Moving On From Jan. 6 — Even If Congress Hasn't

(this is the only thing that matters about Jan 6th)
It might be in the committee’s best interest to stick to that timeline, as the fate of the committee is uncertain if the GOP takes over control of the House next year. Moreover, many Americans want to move on from investigating the events of Jan. 6. A recent Navigator Research poll found, for instance, that 39 percent of registered voters thought the House committee investigating the attack was too focused on the past, compared to 49 percent who said the committee was doing important work. And a January poll from the Pew Research Center found that Americans were pretty divided over whether too much attention was being devoted to the insurrection: Thirty-five percent said “too much” attention had been paid to the attacks, while 33 percent said the “right amount” and 31 percent said “too little.” That said, in another January poll (this one from Quinnipiac), 44 percent of Americans thought it was time to move on, while 50 percent thought that the attack should never be forgotten.

However, some polls suggest that Americans have been holding Trump less responsible for the attack. The most recent polling we have on this question is from January, but at the time, Pew found that the share of respondents who said Trump bore no responsibility at all for the attack had grown by 8 percentage points from 2021 to 2022. Notably, the share of Democrats who said that Trump bore a lot of responsibility for Jan. 6 declined by 11 percentage points.
But just because most Republicans don’t approve of what happened on Jan. 6 doesn’t mean they support the House committee further investigating it. That Navigator poll found Republicans were equally split between supporting or opposing the committee’s work (45 percent each), while a January Quinnipiac poll of registered voters found that 60 percent of Republicans opposed the investigation.
Overall, this paints a picture of a Republican Party that might not fully support what happened on Jan. 6 but is very much ready to move on and, broadly speaking, still backs the former president. And with such a large share of Americans having already made up their mind on this issue, it’s hard to imagine a situation in which revelations from the Jan. 6 committee change people’s minds significantly.

I think this is an investigation in search of a real political issue. You either think this was the second coming of 9-11 and worse than Watergate or you believe it was a protest that turned into a riot much like many other protests that turn into riots. There is little that Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney can do from an investigation aspect to change people's minds.

If you are going to pretend that a few billion dollars and a few hundred injured cops is okay for BLM and Antifa because of "George Floyd or something" but are going to get all riled up over one protest with limited destruction and limited violence (comparatively)... then you are not going to be reasoned with. Ever.

More to the point, as time goes on (and as this article suggests) people are tending to move away from the 9-11 Watergate theme and towards the idea that we need to move forward. However slowly this moves seems to be less relevant than the direction it is moving. Even as the information is released from the Jan 6th commission (as it has been) - they are losing (not gaining) support.

Anyone who believes in this commision... has to seriously wonder why they are bleeding support?

Greene Won’t Say If Electoral Vote Interference Is Unlawful
April 22, 2022 at 12:56 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 69 Comments

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) “declined to say whether unlawfully interfering with the counting of electoral votes in a presidential election would make someone ‘an enemy of the Constitution,’ as she testified about her role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol as part of a case seeking to disqualify from her from seeking reelection,”
the Washington Post reports.

Said Greene:
“I don’t know. I don’t know if it defines it that way.”

Greene also said that she believed Joe Biden had lost the 2020 election to President Donald Trump but claimed it was “not accurate” that she wanted Congress not to certify Biden as the winner.

Taegan Goddard adds:
Greene said on Jan. 3, 2021:
“We aren’t going to let this election be stolen by Joe Biden and the Democrats.”

I guess that depends on your definition of "unlawfully interfering". It seems with the left that anything they have done in the past to try to prevent Bush or Trump from taking office was heroic, while the same actions from the opposite standpoint is "unlawful".

So far, they are still trying to fit the round peg into the square "illegal" hole... and seem to be struggling once they get passed rhetoric.
