Democrats still believe the "biggest lie" of them all

Democrats Still Believe Russia Changed 2016 Election
Democratic voters overwhelmingly agree with Hillary Clinton that Russia is to blame for her defeat in 2016.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters believe it is likely that Russian interference changed the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, including 26% who say it’s Very Likely.
Seventy-two percent (72%) of Democrats believe it’s likely the 2016 election outcome was changed by Russian interference, but that opinion is shared by only 30% of Republicans and 39% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

The reality is that in spite of several investigations, none ever uncovered any nefarious plot between Trump and the Russians to steal an election. All Mueller could come up with after two years and several million dollars was to indict some Russian social media companies for supposedly putting up ads on Facebook and Twitter (which would be illegal for any non-US company). Only problem is that when push came to shove and the companies in question asked or discovery and a speedy trial, the Mueller team caved and had to admit that they actually had no discovery (which is to say that they had no evidence).

All that was left was cries from the left of a "cover up". That in spite of the longest running unsuccessful investigation in the history of the country, Democrats still demanded that the only reason nothing was uncovered was because the investigation came to a premature end. Had Mueller still been around today investigating, perhaps he would have come up with that "smoking gun" that eluded him (and every other investigation) for well over two years.

The irony is that we can now actually "prove" that it was the Clinton campaign (not the Trump campaign) who actually did conspire with Russians and conspire amongst themselves to feed false dossiers and fake Trump/Russia DNS evidence to the FBI in order to set off the investigation that 72% of Democrats still believe was legitimate. We also can confirm through legal action and ruling that the Clinton campaign illegally hid this conspiracy by writing it all off as legal services. Literally something else that Democrats accused Trump of doing.

The kicker? I would venture a guess that most of the 72% of Democrats who still believe the debunked claims about the 2016 election are the loudest ones demanding that the 2020 election was the most secure of all time and that any suggestion otherwise is "the big lie". Their score on the dumbometer? Probably about a 95 out of 100.

Trump Jr., who texted Meadows ideas to overturn the election, to meet with Jan. 6 Committee: report

David Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement

April 21, 2022

Donald Trump, Jr. the eldest son of the former President, will sit down with the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack in the "coming days." His appearance will be voluntary, ABC News reports.

Before the election was called for Joe Biden, Trump Jr. sent desperate text messages to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows with ideas on how to overturn the results.

One insisted, “we have operational control” to ensure a second Trump term.

“It’s very simple,” Trump Jr. added in a November 5 text. “We have multiple paths We control them all.”

“We have operational control Total leverage,” Trump Jr’s text continued. “Moral High Ground POTUS must start 2nd term now.”

Legal experts were stunned, with one stating: “The son of a US President plotted to stop the US government from carrying out the transfer of presidential power.”

A former U.S. Attorney called the texts "powerful evidence of fraud."

Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Kimberly Guilfoyle have all been interviewed by the Committee as well. Guilfoyle met with the Committee for a second time this week.

The Committee is expected to hold publicly-televised hearings as soon as next month.

Post coldheartedsruth is pre-fascism, and Trump has been our post-truth president. When we give up on truth, we concede power to those with the wealth and charisma to create spectacle in its place. Without agreement about some basic facts, citizens cannot form the civil society that would allow them to defend themselves. If we lose the institutions that produce facts that are pertinent to us, then we tend to wallow in attractive abstractions and fictions. Truth defends itself particularly poorly when there is not very much of it around, and the era of Trump — like the era of Vladimir Putin in Russia — is one of the decline of local news. Social media is no substitute: It supercharges the mental habits by which we seek emotional stimulation and comfort, which means losing the distinction between what feels true and what actually is true.

Since he was nominated thecoldheatedtruth died.

DeSantis the "Nazi" just sued the board of Twitter (Florida's pension fund holds shares of Twitter giving him standing) for the board's "breach of fiduciary duty".

I seriously wonder how the board of Twitter believes they can convince a Judge or Jury that reducing Twitter's shares by 35% and then rejecting an offer that would make their shareholders a big gain... because they don't like the politics of the person buying it...

is part of their fiduciary duty!

Meanwhile, DeSantis’ political star is on the rise. His favorables among independents are above 60 percent, according to a March 25 McLaughlin & Associates’ poll. The conservative National Review’s editor, Rich Lowry, has an explanation: DeSantis comes “without the distracting obsessions of the former president.”

Keep that in mind as you consider areas where DeSantis presents an even clearer present and future danger than Trump does.

First up is Covid. DeSantis has run circles around Trump in appealing to the anti-vaccine crowd. As New York Times columnist Thomas Edsall pointed out: “Where Trump was tiptoeing around vaccine skepticism, DeSantis jumped in with both feet, banning private companies like cruise lines from requiring vaccination, appointing a vaccine skeptic to his state’s highest office, and refusing to say if he’s gotten his booster dose.”

There’s nothing harmless about this stance. DeSantis frames the debate as a personal choice. Whether you want protection or not, your choice “doesn’t impact me or anyone else,” he said in 2021. But that flavor of lie has fueled months of the vaccine resistance. It undermines not only public health, but the ties that bind us.

The Rot at the Core of the Republican Party

“The fact that politicians say one thing and do another is hardly revelatory.”

“What is repugnant about the evident deceit of McCarthy, McConnell and many others in Trump’s thrall is that they obviously know better than to believe the lies he keeps spreading. (Some acknowledge as much in private.)

“They see the damage he has done,

with his persistent devaluation of truth
and campaigning to undercut future elections.
Time and again, Trump has shown that his interests

BEGIN AND END THERE.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The former president plan to dismantle democracy, his people gave Jim Marchant an important assignment. Marchant embraced it.

The Big Lie, QAnon, and a Coalition

Marchant’s mission began shortly after the November 2020 election, when he lost his bid to become a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Nevada.

“I got a suite in the Venetian hotel across the hall from the Trump attorneys and the Trump people that came in to start investigating the election fraud here in Nevada,” Marchant later told a QAnon audience at its October 2021 convention in Las Vegas. “And guess who showed up at my suite? Juan O Savin.”

Savin is the alias for an anonymous QAnon influencer and author. Some followers believe he is John F. Kennedy, Jr. in disguise. QAnon’s bizarre conspiracy theories include its core falsehood that a group of Satan-worshiping elites who run a child sex ring are trying to control American politics and media. No longer on the far-right political fringe, QAnon followers now comprise 25 percent of Republicans.

“For the next three to five months, we worked on trying to expose the election, the fraudulent election here in Nevada and everywhere, actually,” Marchant continued, failing to mention that they failed to find fraud anywhere.

He went on to describe his new task, saying, “We need to take back the secretaries of state offices around the country. So not only did they ask me to run, they asked me to put together a coalition… I can’t stress enough how important the secretary of state offices are. I think they are the most important elections in our country in 2022. And why is that? We control the election system. In 2022, we’re going to take back our country.”

In most states, the secretary of state administers all elections and certifies outcomes used to determine electoral votes in presidential contests. Marchant’s coalition is working “behind the scenes to try to fix 2020 like President Trump said.”

“We have the original Rachel Hamm in California, Kristina Karamo in Michigan, Jody Hice in Georgia, Mark Finchem in Arizona,” Marchant said in a January 2022 interview, identifying the members of his coalition. Trump has endorsed Karamo, Hice, and Finchem. Hice has denied that he was “part of a coalition” but is among the handful of candidates profiled on the “America First Secretary of State Coalition” website.

Marchant also claimed that others from Minnesota and Wisconsin would be joining. Currently, the coalition website also includes candidates from Colorado, Idaho, and New Mexico.

“Like-Minded” in Undermining Democracy

Marchant describes his group as a “coalition of like-minded secretary of state candidates” across the country. It promotes the Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election. It supports voter suppression efforts. And without any evidence supporting its claims of widespread fraud, it is systematically undermining voter confidence in America’s elections.

“Your vote hasn’t counted for decades,” Marchant told the audience during a February 2022 debate with his GOP rivals for the secretary of state nomination. “You haven’t elected anybody. The people that are in office have been selected. You haven’t had a choice.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Marchant relies an absurd antisemitic conspiracy theory to support the baseless claim. He asserts that powerful Jewish Democrats plotted for 20 years to defeat Republican presidential candidates by electing progressive secretaries of state to control election outcomes in key swing states. And he says that Trump’s loss in 2020 was “the direct result of that plan.”

He points to George Soros – a Holocaust survivor who emigrated to the U.S. from Hungary in 1956 – and the late former Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) – a Mormon who married a Jew – as key players in his fantasy. His views would be laughable if they weren’t so dangerous.

C.H. Truth said...

Hey Reverend...

Do you still believe that Russia stole the 2016 election from Hillary?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Cancer Spreads

Besides Marchant, other members of the coalition spoke at the QAnon convention last October. Michigan’s Kristina Karamo told the audience:

“First, I want to thank Jim Marchant for putting the coalition together. We owe him so much because you know, when I first asked to be a part of the coalition, and we came here today and we sat in a room and we met and we talked, all of us on the coalition together, and we realized how well coordinated, how nefarious this agenda was to undermine the will of the American people.”

Arizona’s Mark Finchem and California’s Rachel Hamm participated in a panel discussion during which Marchant outlined some of the coalition’s priorities for their candidates who win in November. They include advocating voter ID laws, limiting voting to a single day, discontinuing the use of mail-in ballots, and “cleaning up” voter rolls.

According to an NPR analysis in February 2022, “[A]t least 20 Republican candidates running [for secretary of state] question the legitimacy of President Biden’s 2020 win, even though no evidence of widespread fraud has been uncovered about the race over the last 14 months. In fact, claims of any sort of fraud that swung the election have been explicitly refuted in state after state, including those run by Republicans.”

If you live in any of the following states, a “2020 election denier” is seeking to become your next secretary of state: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Washington, and Wisconsin.

In Pennsylvania, the governor selects the secretary of state, and the two front-runners for the Republican nomination are promoting Trump’s Big Lie too. Marchant has said that one of them, Doug Mastriano, is a member of his coalition. His profile is on the coalition’s website.

Historically, midterm elections don’t attract much voter interest. If such lethargy prevails this time, the outcome of a few key contests for secretary of state in November 2022 could lead to tragic consequences for American democracy in 2024 and beyond.

Now is the time to pick a side.

The current Republican Party is the most dangerous in my lifetime

There’s a rot at the core of the Republican Party, and neither the party nor the country will heal until it’s excised.

The latest evidence of that malignancy comes in a New York Times report about the Jan. 6 insurrection and how GOP congressional leaders responded in the immediate aftermath. The shock and revulsion reflected in their words and deeds present a stark contrast to today’s party line, which essentially amounts to move along, nothing to see here.

The article, published Thursday, reported that House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and his Senate counterpart, Kentucky’s Mitch McConnell, told associates they believed President Trump was responsible for inciting the attack on the Capitol. It also said the two vowed to drive him from politics.

“I’ve had it with this guy,” McCarthy reportedly told a group of Republican leaders, saying he would advise Trump that he was going to be impeached and should resign. The article said McCarthy even considered ways to invoke the 25th Amendment, forcing Trump’s removal, before concluding that was not viable.

Pity. It seems that only after weighing political calculations and parsing self-interests did McCarthy and McConnell back away from saying and doing the right thing.

- They encourage adults to tell children things and tell them "not to say anything to their parents" about it.
- They constantly try to divide everyone by race and creed.
- They believe that a President of the United States was a Russian spy with no evidence
- They want to abolish the First Amendment
- They support crime
- Their actual politicians lead drives to garner money to bail out criminals
- Their leadership killed innocent civilians in Afghanistan and claimed they were terrorists
- They allowed Russia to invade Ukraine
- Since they took full charge of the White House and Congress, we have record crime, record inflation, the world is on fire, and our consumer confidence is literally one point away from the all time low!

Legal expert: Existence of more tapes creates ‘powerful incentive’ for Republicans to cooperate

Bob Brigham

April 21, 2022

The dynamics into investigations into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election may have shifted on Thursday after House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was caught telling a "flat out lie."

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow played an audio recording of McCarthy talking to Rep. Liz Cheney (R-CA). The recording proved McCarthy lied about denying saying he was going to ask for Trump to resign following Jan. 6.

Former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance explained the psychological impact of the recording.

"They're all scared that there are tapes now. Family, members of Congress, party officials. They're going over every conversation they had in their minds, thinking thru whether someone might have taped them. It's a powerful incentive for people to decide to cooperate with prosecutors," she explained.

Your hero is George Wallace in the 21st century.

Florida Republicans approved a new congressional map that severely curtails Black voting power in the state on Thursday, taking a final vote as Black lawmakers staged a sit-in on the floor of the legislature.

The new plan, which was drawn by Governor Ron DeSantis, gives Republicans a significant boost in the state and is one of the most aggressively gerrymandered maps passed in recent months. Republicans would be expected to win 20 of the state’s 28 congressional districts, a four seat increase from the 16 they hold now. It also eliminates two of four districts where Black voters have been able to elect the candidate of their choice.

DeSantis is expected to sign the districts into law, and lawsuits challenging the maps are immediately expected.

“We are plainly in this map denying minority voters the ability to elect the representative of their choice,” said state representative Fentrice Driskell, a Democrat who represents the Tampa area.

Black Democratic lawmakers halted the final debate of the bill Thursday morning just before noon. They took over the floor of the legislature, leading prayer and chants. One member, state representative Dianne Hart, was seen wiping tears from her eyes during the protest, according to the Miami Herald.

The Sergeant at Arms removed an Associated Press photographer from the floor of the legislature while the demonstration was ongoing, the Miami Herald reported. The legislature reconvened and held a final vote on the maps while the protest was continuing, according to The Tributary.

A focal point of the new maps has been the way it eliminates the fifth congressional district, which stretches from Jacksonville to Tallahassee. 46% of that district is currently Black, and it is represented by Al Lawson, a Black Democrat. DeSantis has openly called for getting rid of the district, saying it is unusually shaped and was unlawfully drawn based on race. After vetoing a proposal that would have allowed Black voters in Jacksonville to continue to elect the candidate of their choice, DeSantis’s map breaks up the district into four pieces in which Black voters comprise a much smaller share of the population.

Technology companies must be reined in to address the “weakening of democratic institutions around the world”, Barack Obama said Thursday, in a sweeping keynote speech on the perils of disinformation.

Speaking at Stanford University in Silicon Valley, the former president made his most extensive remarks yet about the technology landscape, which he said is “turbo-charging some of humanity’s worst impulses”.

“One of the biggest reasons for the weakening of democracy is the profound change that’s taken place in how we communicate and consume information,” he said.

The address came as Obama has increasingly focused his post-presidential messaging on misinformation and what should be done about the largely unchecked power wielded by big tech. On Thursday, he solidified those calls, endorsing specific legislation.

“Do we allow our democracy to wither, or do we make it better?” Obama asked. “That is the choice.”

‘People are dying because of disinformation’

Obama’s speech called attention to the grave impacts of disinformation and misinformation – including manipulation of the 2016 and 2020 elections and the rise of anti-vaccination sentiments.

He was candid about regrets he had surrounding Donald Trump’s election, saying his administration had long known that Russia had incentive to manipulate US democracy but he underestimated the effectiveness of the efforts.

“What still nags at me is my failure to appreciate at the time just how susceptible we had become to lies and conspiracy theories,” Obama said.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., denied earlier Thursday that he had said he would recommend former President Donald Trump step down after the Jan. 6 riot.

Just days after the Jan. 6 riot, House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy told a fellow Republican lawmaker that he would recommend to then-President Donald Trump that he resign, according to audio of a call obtained by MSNBC and aired Thursday night.

In the Jan. 10 call, McCarthy can be heard telling Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., that he planned to tell the president he should step down following the violent attack on the Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters.

McCarthy, R-Calif., also indicated he thought impeachment would succeed in the House and possibly the Senate.

“The only discussion I would have with him is that I think this will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign,” McCarthy said in audio that aired on "The Rachel Maddow Show."

The New York Times previously reported the contents of the call, which is included in the the upcoming book, “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future,” by Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns, due out May 3.

McCarthy earlier Thursday denied the Times report, calling it "totally false and wrong" in a statement posted to Twitter.

The Times later included audio of the call.

On the call, Cheney can be heard asking McCarthy about the possibility of resignation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) will be two of the recipients presented with this year's John F. Kennedy "Profile in Courage" awards.

Driving the news: Recipients of the award are being honored "for their courage to protect and defend democracy in the United States and abroad," the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation said in a statement Thursday.

"There is no issue today more important than the fight for democracy. These honorees have placed their careers and lives on the line to protect democratic principles and free and fair elections," the statement reads.

The big picture: As Ukraine's leader, Zelensky has "marshaled the spirit, patriotism, and untiring sacrifice of the Ukrainian people," amid Russia's unprovoked invasion, the foundation wrote in a profile.

"His principled leadership has strengthened the resolve of Ukrainians and people around the globe to protect and defend the fragile human right of self-determination."The foundation is honoring Cheney for standing up against the violence of the Capitol riot and former President Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was stolen, even as it meant enduring threats and breaking with her party.Cheney "remains a consistent and courageous voice in defense of democracy," the foundation wrote.

The three other recipients this year are Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D), Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers (R), and Georgia Election Department employee Wandrea “Shaye” Moss.

All three faced threats and intimidation from Trump supporters after they upheld the results of the 2020 election in their respective states.

What they're saying: "In America, we have also seen how fragile our democratic institutions can be, and we have learned that they do not defend themselves. We — each of us — must do that," Cheney wrote in a statement Thursday, thanking the fondation for the "tremendous honor."

Biden Confuses Title 42 and Mask Mandate

April 22, 2022 at 6:41 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 9 Comments

“President Joe Biden mixed up the federal mask mandate with pandemic-related border controls on Thursday, temporarily causing confusion about his response to key issues facing his administration,” Bloomberg reports.

“Asked by a reporter whether he plans to delay lifting a policy, known as Title 42, that allows most migrants to be quickly turned away at the border, Biden responded as if he’d been asked about a judge’s ruling Monday striking down the federal government’s mask requirement on public transportation.”

“Biden has long had a reputation for verbal gaffes, but at age 79, he has faced questions about his mental fitness for office and whether he’ll seek re-election.”

How and why exactly, alky?

You've made this claim a million times (or so it seems) yet you never, ever, ever substantiate it with any clear and demonstrable evidence.

Trump gave us the best economy since I was a tot, did not threaten to relieve me of my guns, did not start any wars and in fact moved to end them, gave us the lowest unemployment rate in my lifetime as well as that specifically for minorities, enjoyed 6% REAL wage growth, 1.7% inflation, gasoline prices fully half what they are now thanks to US energy INDEPENDENCE, shamed NATO into living up to the charter and pay what they signed up for, and the list goes on and on.

So I'm supposed to FEAR a return to that??? Are you shitting me???

Trump never wrapped the Capitol in razor wire and deployed 25,000 soldiers to DC in a show of intimidation and strength. Trump did not round up the Lafayette Square protesters and lock them up indefinitely.

Face it alky - you don't leave your Cuckoo's Nest except on a gurney in a body bag. You should wish to be as fucked up as the 5th Beatle.

Dementia Trump
Donald Trump Thursday evening stood in front of an audience at an event hosted by the right-wing Heritage Foundation and bragged about "acing" an "aptitude" test near the end of his one term as president.

He was either forgetting what the test was, lying about it, or had been lied to.

"They actually were thinking about an Article 25 when I said that," Trump declared, referring to the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that provides a mechanism to remove a president from office other than via an impeachment conviction.

"They don't think about it now, the 25th Amendment. They don't think about that now at all, they never mention the 25th. But they would never – any time I had a great idea they would mention –'25th Amendment, there's something wrong with him.'"

"I took the aptitude test and I aced it according to Doc Ronny," Trump continued, referring to then-White House Physician Dr. Ronny Jackson, who is now a Republican U.S. Congressman and under ethics investigation.

"And a whole group of doctors, I aced that aptitude test," he falsely claimed. "And that's a test that even some geniuses in this room will not do that well on. It's not that easy a test."

Trump is wrong on all counts.

As The New York Times reported at the time, "‘Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.’ Didn’t Mean What Trump Hoped It Did."

"The president said on Fox News that he had to remember those words as part of a test that he said demonstrated his mental acuity. But the test, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, is meant to detect signs of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or other conditions."

HA!

Jizzo lost another one -

Tina Flournoy, Vice President Kamala Harris’ chief of staff, is leaving the administration, a White House official confirmed to POLITICO on Thursday. Lorraine Voles, who was brought in as a senior adviser to Harris last summer, will step into the role.

The moves, which were first reported by The Washington Post, are set to take place later this spring.

Heh -

Democrats’ path to saving their narrow Senate majority comes down to defending four states this fall. And in all of them, President Joe Biden is underwater in the polls.

Biden’s drag on swing-state incumbents is emerging as a pivotal factor in the midterm Senate elections, where the loss of just one Democratic-held seat in November could put Republicans in control.

Acutely aware of the need to get distance from the president, the four most endangered Democratic incumbents — Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock, Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto and New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan — are increasingly taking steps to highlight their independence from the president and underscore their differences.

So Liz Cheney is getting a profile in Courage award?

I saw recently she is only receiving 2% of her campaign contributions from Utah.

She definitely does not represent her state which she rarely even bothers visiting

Republicans should kick her totally out of the party

And give her the Benedict Arnold award

But that would take real courage

Which current Republican leadership lacks

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Rhode Island senators put their names on Bill S.2552, which would require every person at least 16 years old in the state to be immunized against COVID-19.

NBC 10 News learned that two removed their names from the bill.

NBC 10 stopped by a local grocery store to speak with people about the matter.

Dhimitris Lusiano said he doesn't agree with the bill.

“I can’t advise anybody because everybody is different," said Lusiano.

Violating the proposed vaccine mandate would come with a price. Violators would face “a civil penalty of $50 and shall owe twice the amount of personal income taxes."

The Humiliation of Kevin McCarthyLordy, there were tapes

Charlie Sykes

Watching Kevin McCarthy over the last 24 hours has been like peeling an onion of humiliation. And there is no reason to think we are anywhere close to being done.

The story so far:

In the wake of the January 6 Insurrection the GOP Leader had a spasm of conscience and a momentary sense of duty. It faded quickly.

But, before it passed, McCarthy told colleagues that he was going to tell Donald Trump he would be impeached, and that the president should resign. Within days though, McCarthy’s wrestled with his conscience — and the former president won.

A new audio clip reveals that House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy considered asking Donald Trump to resign as president in the immediate aftermath of the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

The explosive clip was released by the New York Times and played on MSNBC Thursday night, just half a day after McCarthy released a lengthy denial of an earlier Times report that said he and the Republican Senate leader, Mitch McConnell, initially both held Trump responsible for the attack, and both privately expressed anger against him.

In the clip, which is a soundbite from a call with House GOP leaders, McCarthy can be heard answering a question from Republican representative Liz Cheney, who was in party leadership at the time. Cheney asked McCarthy if he believed Trump would resign if Congress successfully passed a 25th amendment resolution, which would declare Trump incapable of holding office.

“My gut tells me no. I am seriously thinking about having that conversation with him tonight,” he said. “The only discussion I would have with him is I think [the resolution] will pass, and it would be my recommendation that he should resign.

“That would be my take, but I don’t think he would take it. But I don’t know.”

In a statement on Thursday morning before the clip was released, McCarthy made a blanket denial of the New York Times report saying that it is “totally false and wrong”.

“It comes as no surprise that the corporate media is obsessed with doing everything it can to further the liberal agenda,” the statement read. “The corporate media is more concerned with profiting from manufactured political intrigue from politically-motivated sources.

Ch has no control

“Our country has suffered enough under failed one-party Democrat rule, and no amount of media ignorance and bias will stop Americans from delivering a clear message this fall that it is time for change.”

McCarthy has not responded to the release of the audio clip. A spokesperson for Cheney, who is also heard on the clip, said she did not release the tape and does not know who leaked it.

The Times story, the reporting for which comes from the upcoming book This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden and the Battle for America’s Future, by reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, detailed scathing comments against Trump that Republican leaders made in the days after the Capitol insurrection.

McCarthy reportedly told colleagues in private: “I’ve had it with this guy,” adding: “What he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend it and nobody should defend it.”

Meanwhile, McConnell reportedly told two of his senior advisers: “If this isn’t

WASHINGTON — Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., suggested that the House Jan. 6 committee's upcoming hearings will be dramatic and include explosive revelations that the panel has been piecing together behind the scenes for months.

"The hearings will tell a story that will really blow the roof off the House," Raskin said Thursday at an event hosted by Georgetown University's Center on Faith and Justice in Washington.

Jan. 6 committee considers changes to Insurrection Act

Members of the committee plan to hold those hearings in June and aim to have a report out about their investigation by the end of the summer or early fall, said Raskin, who sits on the panel.

"No president has ever come close to doing what happened here in terms of trying to organize an inside coup to overthrow an election and bypass the constitutional order," he said. "And then also use a violent insurrection made up of domestic violent extremist groups, white nationalist and racist, fascist groups in order to support the coup."

Raskin said the committee will present "evidence" that proves there was coordination among then-President Donald Trump and his inner circle and his supporters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

The plan was to use then-Vice President Mike Pence to try to get President Joe Biden's electoral vote tally below the 270 majority needed for victory, Raskin said, which under the 12th Amendment would shift the contest to a vote in the House. If that occurred, he said, Republicans would have the majority to seize the presidency because the votes would be cast by the state delegations, and the GOP controls more state delegations than the Democrats do.

"It’s anybody’s guess what could have happened — martial law, civil war. You know, the beginning of authoritarianism," Raskin said, speculating on what might have unfolded if the plan was successful. "I want people to pay attention to what’s going on here, because that’s as close to fascism as I ever want my country to come to again."
