In its latest attempt to be the nation’s leader in restricting what happens in public school classrooms, Florida said it has rejected a pile of math textbooks submitted by publishers in part because they “contained prohibited subjects,” including critical race theory. The Florida Department of Education announced on Friday that Richard Corcoran, the outgoing commissioner of education, approved an initial adoption list of instructional materials for math, but 41 percent of the submitted textbooks were rejected — most of them in elementary school. Some were said not to be aligned with Florida’s content standards, called the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking, or BEST. But others, the department said, were rejected for the subject matter. “Reasons for rejecting textbooks included references to Critical Race Theory (CRT), inclusions of Common Core, and the unsolicited addition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in mathematics,” it said in an announcement on the department’s website. In ‘social-emotional learning,’ right sees more critical race theory Although the department described the textbook review process as “transparent,” it did not mention which textbooks had been rejected or cite examples from the offending passages.
A functioning democracy requires many things. It requires the tireless and hard work of the citizenry to become educated about public affairs and to hold elected and party leaders accountable. And we need to recognize that American democracy is an unfinished project. If the arc of the moral universe is bending toward justice, it is only because there are plenty of people pushing it in that direction.
Above all, democracy requires that citizens see one another as part of the same democratic project, and not as enemies. It demands that we value self-government more than a particular candidate or policy. That we accept the results of elections and, if we lose, we try to win the next one. And in the interim, we must believe that our political opponents are as loyal to the nation as we are. If fail to embrace the idea of the legitimate opposition, we will have lost our democracy.
The Republican party’s emphasis on gender grievance, and its attendant surge in male support, comes on the eve of the biggest setback for gender equality in half a century: the probable end of Roe v Wade. The supreme court is almost universally expected to overturn the abortion rights precedent this summer; many states, considering the decision already effectively nullified, have rushed to outlaw and criminalize abortion within their borders even before the verdict comes down. The bans that are swiftly moving through Republican-controlled state legislatures typically carry no exemption for rape and incest, and their cruelty is justified in viciously misogynistic terms. When Democrats in the Florida state senate tried to add an exception for rape victims to the 15-week ban that Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law on Thursday, their Republican colleagues shut them down.
“I fear for the men who are going to be accused of a rape so that the woman could have an abortion,” Kelli Stargel, one of the bill’s sponsors, argued during floor debate. “A woman is going to say she was raped so she could have the abortion.”
Her remark was a lie grounded in misogynist myths and, like the “groomer” smear, has no basis in reality. But it seems that Republicans, and their growing base of male voters, are ready to believe it.
NBC's "Saturday Night Live" imagined various politicians and celebrities send out Easter messages.
"Hi, I'm Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA). I've been saying aggressively to all my Jewish and Muslim colleagues, 'Happy Easter!' Don't worry, this rifle is chocolate, but the bullets are real."
She went on to voice opinions about the LGBTQ and Easter.
"So happy Easter and God bless Russia — I mean America," she said with an eye roll.
"Kind of both, right?" she wondered.
Greene was followed by a profane impersonation of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
And then a very rambling Donald Trump made an appearance.

Ukrainians defy deadline to surrender in Mariupol or die
By ADAM SCHRECK and MSTYSLAV CHERNOV15 minutes ago
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The battered port city of Mariupol appeared on the brink of falling to Russian forces Sunday after seven weeks under siege, a development that what would give Moscow a crucial success in Ukraine following Russia’s failure to storm the capital and the loss of its Black Sea flagship.
The Russian military estimated that about 2,500 Ukrainian fighters holding out at a hulking steel plant with a warren of underground passageways provided the last pocket of resistance in Mariupol. Russia gave a deadline for their surrender, saying those who put down their weapons were “guaranteed to keep their lives,” but the Ukrainians did not submit.
You gotta hand it to a guy who convinces Democrats to die on the hill of defending perverted groomers talking about sex with little school kids. It's on-brand for their fellow travelers at The Lincoln Project, but you would think that Democrats actually want to win elections. But no – they want to make the schools safe for pedos, and they don't care who knows it. But they'll care plenty in November when parents around the country come out and vote for The Party of Not Hitting on Der Kinder.
Donald Trump has his record of achievement – economic success and peace abroad. But Ron DeSantis has the DeSantis Doctrine, sort of like the Monroe Doctrine, except instead of keeping shady foreigners out of our hemisphere, the DeSantis Doctrine keeps woke fascists out of our lives.
...
Except Trump is in the picture. With Biden's mounting failures – a Mt. Everest of defeats, humiliations, and fiascos – the Trump years have to be looking pretty good to many of the squishy suburbanites, who look back longingly at mean tweets and $3 gas. Trump has an opportunity in 2024, but so does DeSantis, and you gotta love the idea of a primary where Godzilla fights King Kong, and they only pause to jointly pummel the tacky Rodan that is Liz Cheney or Adam Kinzinger or whatever other Bulwark-approved weenie tries to run in the Democrat lane of the Republican primaries.
Sure, Biden talked tough about imposing sanctions on Russia and called out Putin for his fiendish actions, but the Russians knew that his words were as hollow as Obama’s meaningless sanctions over Crimea. And the Russians gleefully rubbed Biden’s nose in it. Lavrov boasted publicly that the United States had provided written guarantees that sanctions imposed over Ukraine would have no effect on Russia’s nuclear cooperation with Iran. In other words, the cash influx that the JCPOA promised Putin would be unaffected by whatever happened in Ukraine. No matter how many Ukrainians Putin murdered, Biden was going to make the man he called a war criminal even richer. Half a million dead Syrians could testify that America would keep its word.
When the Iran deal is formalized, Iran will be a Russian nuclear client. Russia’s state-controlled Rosatom energy firm and at least four of its major subsidiaries will receive sanctions waivers to finish nuclear projects in Iran worth more than $10 billion. Iran will also be buying weapons from Moscow worth billions of dollars more. By relieving sanctions on Iranian banks, the restored JCPOA provides Putin with financial channels invulnerable to U.S. financial measures.
Trump's luck may have run out as his 'troubles' pile up: biographer
Tom Boggioni
April 17, 2022
In a column for CNN, Donald Trump biographer Michael D'Antonio suggested that the former president's long streak of being held responsible for his actions may be coming to an end -- as well as his political career -- as his star fades and his troubles pile up.
As D'Antonio notes, Trump has stumbled lately, ranging from endorsing Republican candidates, who have some of his staunchest allies scratching their heads, to poor turnout at his rallies in numbers that his biographer points out are embarrassing.
Taken together, along with GOP lawmakers openly mocking him now, D'Antonio claimed the future for Trump looks bleak as he tried to maintain his political viability.
Citing Republican Party pollster Frank Luntz admitting in an interview, "They won’t say it, but behind his back, they think he’s a child. They’re laughing at him…Trump isn’t the same man he was a year ago," and GOP campaign consultant Susan Del Percio bluntly stating most Americans are tired of hearing Trump's complaints that the 2020 election was stolen from him, D'Antonio wrote, "Although the former President might dismiss the comments from Luntz and Del Percio, his problems go beyond the observations of two GOP operatives."
Adding, "his drawing power at rallies has fallen to a level he might have previously found embarrassing," the biographer suggested, "It may be time to ask: Is Trump losing his grip on the Republican Party?"
"Some critics have also started wondering if Trump might end up being a godsend for Democrats, as Jennifer Rubin wrote in the Washington Post. In 2020, it seemed Trump’s endorsements of Kelly Loeffler and Perdue in the Georgia Senate runoff elections backfired and instead helped Democrats win a slim majority in the upper chamber. Rubin, who noted that Trump could be putting himself in political peril with these [new] endorsements, wrote, 'The risk is that if his choices flop, it will expose him as a has-been with little political sway.'"
Recalling that New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) recently said of Trump, "He’s f*cking crazy," D'Antonio added, "That Sununu, who once called himself a 'Trump guy through and through,' would make such a joke is a remarkable turn of events."
He concluded, "Taken together, Trump’s troubles are encouraging to those of us who believe the country would be better off if the former President retired and spent the rest of his days playing golf. Of course, his critics have been declaring the end of his power and popularity for years, only to watch him achieve surprising success. So while I’m not saying that he will definitely stage a comeback – I don’t expect he will – it’s never a safe bet with Trump, who has repeatedly defied expectations."
That's right alky. A leftists "analysis" of Trump is ALWAYS to be believed.
Just the other day Captain Bearclaw Vindman said in an interview that Trump is losing his mind, or something to that effect. Because obviously Vindman would know all of the personal intimate details of Trump. And clowns like you lap it right up.

If they hold onto Mariupol it would be a major disaster for the Russian military.
Mariupol officials rejected Russia's demands to surrender the besieged port city on Sunday, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned the invading forces were "trying to destroy everyone" in the besieged port city.
What to watch: Zelensky said Saturday that negotiations with Russian officials would end if the Ukrainians defending Mariupol were killed, the Washington Post reports.
"I believe this is a big mistake if they definitely want to end the war as they say," Zelensky said of Russia."This is a dead end because … we aren’t bartering using our territories and people. And we understand that the talks are needed to defend our country and end the war," he added.
Worth noting: Ceasefire and peace negotiations ended after airstrikes in cities such as Bucha and Borodyanka, an area northwest of Kyiv, earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Russia's defense ministry claimed Saturday that its forces had cleared the entire urban area of Mariupol of Ukrainian forces, with a few fighters remaining in the Azovstal steel factory, Reuters reports.
The ministry called on Ukraine's forces to "lay down their arms and surrender" the city by Sunday morning, but Mariupol officials vowed that Ukrainian troops would "continue to hold the defense" and the deadline subsequently passed, per CNN.
State of play: "The situation in Mariupol remains as severe as possible," Zelensky said in a virtual address Saturday night, according to a transcript posted to the Ukrainian presidential website in English.
"Just inhuman. This is what the Russian Federation did. Deliberately did. And deliberately continues to destroy cities. Russia is deliberately trying to destroy everyone who is there in Mariupol," Zelensky continued."I want to be heard right now: there has not been a single day since the blockade of Mariupol that we have not sought a solution. Military or diplomatic — anything to save people," he added."But finding this solution is extremely difficult. So far, there is no one 100% valid option. This applies to both military options and the negotiation process."
Of note: Zelensky appealed for more military support from allied countries — "all the necessary heavy weapons, planes, and, without exaggeration, immediately" in order to "reduce the pressure of the occupiers on Mariupol" and end the blockade.
The big picture: Russian forces also increased attacks across Ukraine overnight into Sunday, intensifying strikes on Kyiv and the country's west in particular while they escalating their offensive in the east, per AP.

President Joe Biden’s administration has released more than 750,000 border crossers and illegal aliens, a foreign population larger than the population of Boston, Massachusetts, into the United States since taking office in January 2021, a court brief confirms.
The brief, dated April 14 and filed in the Supreme Court by Stephen Miller’s America First Legal Foundation, details the extent to which Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has put its Catch and Release network into overdrive in just a little over 12 months.
Specifically, DHS has released more than 756,109 border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities from January 21, 2021, to February 28, 2022, the brief states. This is larger than the resident population of Boston, about equal to the size of Denver, Colorado, and larger than the population of Detroit, Michigan.

“I’m surprised that rates aren’t at 6 percent right now,” he added, “and wouldn’t be shocked if they’re at 7 percent by end of year.”

WASHINGTON — When President Joe Biden took to the road this week, looking to shift attention back to his domestic policy efforts, there was a heavy focus on the economy — and no mention of his most progressive agenda items.
Biden made stops in Iowa and North Carolina, his first domestic travel in more than a month, with just over six months to go until the midterm elections. The president plans to make trips to Oregon and Washington next week as other top officials make swings through 25 states over the next three weeks, with a specific focus on rural communities.
As Biden ramps up his travel again, his message has increasingly focused on promoting the work his administration is doing to try to lower prices amid record inflation, and to pin the blame on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Voters have said inflation is a top concern, and just a third approve of Biden's handling of the economy in a March NBC poll.
Biden to push ‘Building a Better America’ plan to ease inflation rates
"I’m doing everything within my power, by executive orders, to bring down the prices and address the Putin price hike," Biden said at an Iowa event promoting the use of ethanol next to a large pile of cornmeal and signs reading “lowering costs for families.”
But gone from Biden’s remarks recently have been top issues among the Democratic base, including immigration, student debt and voting rights. White House officials have acknowledged they have little chance at passing any major legislative policies this year given divisions not only among Democrats and Republicans but also within the president's own party.
Instead, the White House has been focused on more modest efforts, such as Covid funding and passage of a bill to support the semiconductor industry, the focus of this week's trip to North Carolina.

We have top men in charge. TOP MEN!

Trump is losing his grip on the GOP.

And the question remains -
If one was to set out to intentionally destroy the US, what would they do differently than what is being done by the Sloppy Joe regime right now?
“I’m not surprised that rates have hit 5 percent, but I am surprised that everyone else is surprised,” Curtis Wood, founder and chief executive of Bee, a mobile mortgage app, said via email. “If you look at historical action by the Fed in a high-rate environment and compare that to what the Fed is doing today, the Fed is underreacting to the reality of inflation in the economy.
“I’m surprised that rates aren’t at 6 percent right now,” he added, “and wouldn’t be shocked if they’re at 7 percent by end of year.”

Biden hits the road, leaving his progressive agenda behind
Gone from the president's remarks recently have been top issues among the Democratic base, including immigration, student debt and voting rights, with the economy taking center stage instead.
