Abortion bill pushed by Schumer and Democrats would have support of very few Americans

The radical bill would provide access to all abortions at any time and provide government funding for them

Not only does this bill not have the votes to pass, but if Schumer did put it to a vote it is likely he would lose several Democrats in the process. While polling "might" suggest that Roe v Wade is popular and should not be overturned, codifying abortion without restrictions along with Government funding would offer radical expansions on what is currently happening in our society.

Democrats seem to think this is an issue that can help them in November. But it certainly would not help if vulnerable Democrats had to comes out in favor of an abortion bill that allowed second and even third trimester abortions, required all doctors to perform them, and made taxpayers responsible for paying for it. That position is deeply unpopular and I am actually a bit shocked that this is what is being pushed. It seems that Schumer is looking for a "no" as an answer here.

Other bills are out there for the offering. Murkowski and Collins are sponsoring a bill that would basically codify Roe and Casey as it stands. Using the undue burden language, making viability the drop dead point, and otherwise taking a status quo position. However, both are adamantly against making any moves to undermine the filibuster or to carve out and exception for this issue. So while it might get more votes, it is also doomed for failure.

I might offer that if you tempered this some more, perhaps leaving certain things in the hands of the states (how to run abortion clinics for instance) and moving the timing from "viability" to what has become the more popular first term (14-15 weeks), that you might actually start to get to 60 votes in the Senate. It would seem almost "radical" at that point to vote against it for either reason (too easy or too hard).

If someone like Schumer was truly more interested in Abortion rights than trying to make an issue out of this, they could probably get something passed. As it stands, there is a good possibility that abortion will become much more restricted if left to the states. Eventually there will most likely end up being a Federal compromise. That seems almost certain at some point. I don't see the House and Senate leaving this alone when you have one state that will allow it with no exceptions and possibly another state banning it all together.

But I think that will take a more functional Congress with more responsible leadership. I doubt it can happen before this decision is released or before the midterms.

Far more important is that even Moscow Mitch McConnell, Pence and several other Republicans stopped Trump from destroying our country.

Former President Donald Trump has made it clear that after his time in the White House, he hates Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). But in the final months of the Trump term, it was McConnell who still had enough sway to stop the White House from a damaging purge of Defense Department officials they'd deemed disloyal.

Paranoia or power had run amok, particularly in 2020, former Defense Secretary Mark Esper wrote in his new book, A Sacred Oath. After Trump lost the election.

He was putting unqualified people in the Defense Department. I will provide the link.

Seems par for the course these days as I cannot remember the least time the democrats gave a shit about what Americans support.

85-90% of Americans loved their health insurance and democrats shoved 0linsky-care up our ass anyway.

As it stands, there is a good possibility that abortion will become much more restricted if left to the states.

Fine by me. The only problem I have with that is retarded states like mine here in NY are offering to pay for anyone who comes here seeking an abortion. They're talking about setting aside $50 MILLION in taxpayer money to start. And we don't have a pot to piss in as it is. Fucking assholes.

Biden says Rick Scott's controversial tax plan is 'extreme, as most MAGA things are'

President Joe Biden laid into Sen. Rick Scott's controversial economic policy today

"Let me tell you about this ultra-MAGA agenda," Biden said. "It's extreme, as most MAGA things are."

Biden pointed to Scott's tax provisions, which would require all Americans to pay some income tax so they "have skin in the game." The Tax Policy Center found that the plan would raise taxes on mostly lower-income households. Households that make below $54,000 would pay for over 80% of such a tax increase. Under a plan with a minimum tax of $100, the lowest-earning Americans would have paid nearly $1,000 more in taxes in 2022, according to the analysis.

Biden also pushed back against Scott's proposals for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other social programs. The Florida Republican's plan would require Congress to reauthorize such programs every five years. Biden said seniors have paid into Social Security for "their whole life. And it has to be reauthorized?"

The President said that the deficit will decrease rapidly

Said Casey: “In light of the leaked Supreme Court decision draft overturning Roe v. Biden Vows to Confront Inflation

“President Biden on Tuesday sought to reassure Americans the administration has a viable plan to fight inflation as gas prices Tuesday surged to a new high despite White House efforts to stabilize them,” the Washington Post reports.

Said Biden: “I know families all across America are hurting because of inflation. I want every American to know that I am taking inflation very seriously.”

Yeah, $1000.00 more than zero. As it should be. Those who consume the most government SHOULD have some skin in the game.

The Florida Republican's plan would require Congress to reauthorize such programs every five years. Biden said seniors have paid into Social Security for "their whole life. And it has to be reauthorized?"

Every five years is generous. Considering how poorly it's been managed sine LBJ rolled the SS lock box into the general fund in the 60's we should have to re-authorize it every election cycle.

We've become accustomed to only caring about entitlement programs to the point where all we think about is the entitlement part. The SS Ponzi scheme has been fucked for a while now. Simpson-Bowles addressed it, but 0linsky couldn't be bothered. And now we desperately need to send $40 BILLION to Ukraine because shut up.

The democrat party must be destroyed in it's entirety. Root and branch. Crushed. And salt the earth upon which it stood.

Republican lunatics because of Trump

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — With six days until Pennsylvania’s primary, Republicans are openly worrying that a leading candidate in the crowded GOP field for governor is unelectable in the fall general election and will fumble away an opportunity for the party to take over the battleground state’s executive suite.

Doug Mastriano, 58, a state senator since 2019 and a retired U.S. Army colonel, is running to the right of the nine-person Republican field and against the party’s establishment in a state still roiled by former President Donald Trump’s baseless conspiracy theories that Democrats stole the 2020 election there.

Mastriano is a prominent peddler of the unsubstantiated claims that widespread fraud marred the 2020 election and that Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf was responsible for thousands of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes. During the pandemic, he belittled efforts to contain the virus and spread conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 vaccine.

President Biden said Tuesday that addressing inflation is his "top domestic priority" as midterm elections loom.

Driving the news: "I want everyone to know that I'm taking inflation very seriously and it's my top domestic priority," Biden said in remarks, where he also blasted Republicans' plans to combat inflation.

Biden slammed GOP plans, including those from Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), which Biden said would raise taxes on 75 million American families."The bottom line is this: Americans have a choice right now between two paths, reflecting two very different sets of values," Biden said.Biden also said that the administration is discussing "right now" potentially lowering some of former President Trump's tariffs against China as a way to slow inflation.

What he's saying: "I plan to tax inflation and grow the economy by lowering costs for working families, giving workers well-deserved raises, reducing the deficit by historic levels, making big corporations and the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share," Biden said.

He added that a "once-in-a-century pandemic" and "Mr. Putin's war in Ukraine" are the leading causes of inflation."The bottom line is easing these bottlenecks and making our supply chain more secure, is a major focus of my economic strategy," he said.

Law enforcement and security officers that night clubbed and punched protesters and unleashed mounted officers and chemical agents against them in one of the most controversial confrontations at the height of this year’s nationwide protests over the killing of Black people at the hands of police.

The forceful clearing of Lafayette Square, long one of the nation’s most prominent venues for demonstrations, came minutes before President Trump appeared in the area without notice, on his way to stage a photo event in front of a historic church nearby.

Biden: inflation is 'my top domestic priority'

Speaking from the White House, Joe Biden laid the blame for rising costs on two key factors: a “once-in-a-century pandemic” that shut down the global economy and snarled supply chains and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who invaded Ukraine and sent the cost of gas and food soaring.

“I want every American to know that I’m taking inflation very seriously and it’s my top domestic priority,” Biden said.

Republicans and some economists have accused the White House of being slow to recognize the urgency of inflation, which Biden once suggested would be temporary. But as costs continue to climb, Biden has re-oriented his agenda to address inflation, which he said was the nation’s “top economic challenge right now.”

Biden is now assailing Republicans for their economic agenda, which he said is making inflation worse. He blamed them for being “extreme” and more interested in protecting large corporations than working families.

“In this moment of peril, with the war overseas and inflation surging around the world, the last thing we should be thinking about is rewarding companies for exploiting the situation,” Biden said.

The president is now pulling from Scott’s aforementioned 11-point plan, warning that Republicans are a threat to beloved social-safety net programs like social security and Medicare.

Even if Republicans don’t ultimately want to end those programs, Biden said they would use the threat as a “hostage” to get their way on other issues.

Trump once proposed launching missiles into Mexico

Esper, who was fired by Trump after the 2020 election, made headlines back in June 2020, when he split with the then-president over invoking the Insurrection Act, which would have allowed the former president to send the military into states in response to protests and unrest.

Trump had threatened earlier that, if the turmoil wasn't quelled around the country to his satisfaction, he would send the military into states. Behind the scenes, Esper alleges in his new book, Trump had other ideas about how to stop the protests.
