An obvious attempt to stifle criticism of the White House and the Bidens

FCC commissioner says Biden’s 'disinformation board' is 'unconstitutional'
FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr blasted the Department of Homeland Security's new Disinformation Governance Board to combat online disinformation on Monday, calling it "Orwellian," "un-American" and "unconstitutional."
Carr made the argument on "Mornings with Maria" on Monday, stressing that the disinformation board should be shut down. He also argued that "there is a broader game afoot."
Federal and state lawmakers, constitutional scholars and other experts are expressing concerns with the Department of Homeland Security's new misinformation board, which they argue is the Biden administration's attempt to stifle free speech.

I don't see how this will pass muster here. There are 20 different state Attorney Generals threatening a lawsuit and does anyone believe that our USSC would let something like this stand? It would be one thing if the person running the show had any credibility, but she herself is a leading advocate for undermining the first amendment (which is still the constitution) and has blatantly censored true information while promoting fake news.

Nobody caught going 120 in a 55 would go to court and argue to the Judge that a 55 speed limit is stupid and destructive. But this is exactly what they would want to do here. They would basically want to go in front of Justices sworn to protect the constitution and tell them that the first amendment is stupid, should not be enforced, and that their own personal opinions should rule the day.

Good luck.

House approves $40B in Ukraine aid, BEERING UP Biden request
Associated Press
ALAN FRAM
May 11, 2022, 6:21 AM
WASHINGTON (AP) — The House emphatically approved a fresh $40 billion Ukraine aid package Tuesday as lawmakers beefed up President Joe Biden's initial request, signaling a magnified, bipartisan commitment to thwart Russian President Vladimir Putin's bloody three-month-old invasion.

The measure sailed to passage by a lopsided 368-57> margin, providing $7 billion more than Biden's request from April and dividing the increase evenly between defense and humanitarian programs. The bill would give Ukraine military and economic assistance, help regional allies, replenish weapons the Pentagon has shipped overseas and provide $5 billion to address global food shortages caused by the war's crippling of Ukraine's normally robust production of many crops.

The measure was backed by every voting Democrat and by nearly 3 out of 4 Republicans. House debate reflected a perspective, shared broadly by both parties, that the U.S. has even more at stake than standing by Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian people, they need us, they are in desperate need of our support," said Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., chair of the House Appropriations Committee. "Vladimir Putin and his cronies must be held responsible. This bill does that by protecting democracy, limiting Russian aggression and strengthening our own national security.

“As China, Iran and North Korea watch our response, we must show the world that America stands firm with its allies and will do what is necessary to protect our interests abroad,” said Rep. Kay Granger of Texas, top Republican on that committee.

MEANWHILE RRB AND 57 REPUBLICANS SAY F UKRAINED."

The new legislation would bring American support for the effort to nearly $54 billion, including the $13.6 billion in support Congress enacted in March. That's about $6 billion more than the U.S. spent on all its foreign and military aid in 2019, according to a January report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, which studies issues for lawmakers. It's also around 1% of the entire federal budget.

The measure was released as Washington has become increasingly assertive about its goals and its willingness to help Ukraine with more sophisticated weapons. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said recently the U.S. wants a “weakened” Russia that can’t quickly restore its capability to attack other countries.

Russian attacks on Ukraine’s southern port of Odesa have intensified in what seems an attempt to hamper deliveries of Western arms. Those weapons have helped Ukraine hold its own surprisingly well against its more lethal foe, but the grinding war is taking its toll.

Senate approval of Ukrainian aid seems certain, and members of both parties have echoed the need for quick action. “As Putin desperately accelerates his campaign of horror and brutality in Ukraine, time is of the essence,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

But it was unclear when the Senate would act, and changes there were possible, with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., insisting that the measure be narrowly focused on the war.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

MEALY MOUTHED MITCH MOUTHS OFF.

“I think we’re on a path to getting that done,” McConnell told reporters. “It needs to be clean of extraneous matters, directly related to helping the Ukrainians win the war.”

Some Republicans used the election-season debate to accuse Biden of being unclear about his goals.

“Honestly, do we not deserve a plan?" said Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas. He said he agrees that Western countries must help Ukraine stand up to Russia but added, "Does the administration not need to come to us with where we are going with this?”

Oksana Markarova, Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S., attended Tuesday's separate Democratic and Republican Senate lunches and expressed gratitude for the support they've received. Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., said Markarova told them her country has depleted its stockpiles of Soviet-era weapons and said continued NATO support is vital.

Coons said the Ukrainian's message was: “Thank you, do more. We have a hard fight ahead. With your support, we can win.”

The new measure includes $6 billion to arm and train Ukrainian forces, $8.7 billion to restore American stores of weapons shipped to Ukraine and $3.9 billion for U.S. forces deployed to the area.

There's also $8.8 billion in economic support for Ukraine, $4 billion to help Ukraine and allies finance arms and equipment purchases and $900 million for housing, education and other help for Ukrainian refugees in the U.S.

To enhance the measure's chances in Congress, the House bill dropped Biden’s proposal to ease the pathway to legal permanent residency for qualifying Afghans who fled to the U.S. after last summer’s American withdrawal from that country. Some Republicans have expressed concerns about the adequacy of security screenings for applicants.

In their biggest concession, Biden and Democrats abandoned plans Monday to include additional billions of dollars to build up U.S. supplies of medicines, vaccines and tests for COVID-19. Republican support for more pandemic spending is waning and including that money would have slowed the Ukraine measure in the 50-50 Senate, where at least 10 GOP votes will be needed for passage.

Democrats hope to produce a separate COVID-19 package soon, though its fate is unclear.

Biden met in the White House Situation Room Tuesday with Pelosi and six other House Democrats who traveled recently to Ukraine and Poland. Afterward, Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., a member of that delegation and a former Army Ranger, said the Ukrainians need advanced drones and longer-range weapons like artillery, rockets and anti-ship missiles that will help them push back the Russians.

Americans Don’t Want War With Russia But Republicans And Democrats Are Forcing It Anyway

Since the conflict in Ukraine and Russia began, high-profile elites have demanded that the United States back Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky with finances, food, weaponry, and even the threat of war against Vladimir Putin, but this is out of step with the will of the people.

What started as a call to fund and defend a nation against an invasion from a dangerous dictator, however, quickly morphed into a quest to undermine the Russian regime by whatever means necessary including ordering NATO warplanes to shoot down Russian aircraft and issuing full-blown declarations of war.

A majority of Americans do not want the U.S. to go to war with Russia over Ukraine. Recent polling from The Washington Post and ABC News suggests that 72 percent of U.S. adults “oppose the United States taking direct military action against Russian forces.” Even in the early days of the overseas conflict, only 17 percent of Americans were willing to “risk a direct war between the U.S. and Russia” to “do whatever it can to help Ukraine.”

Congress has yet to vote to officially authorize acts of war against Russia, but that hasn’t stopped some of the most high-ranking officials in the U.S., from President Joe Biden and sitting members of Congress to intelligence agencies and even institutions such as the corporate media, from promoting a clash in Eastern Europe.

Just this week, sitting Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., admitted that the United States is in a proxy war with Russia.

“At the end of the day, we’ve got to realize we’re at war. And we’re not just at war to support the Ukrainians. We’re fundamentally at war, although, it’s somewhat through proxy with Russia and it’s important that we win,” Moulton said.
...
So far, neither Biden nor the Republicans or Democrats in Congress have laid out a peace plan or spending limits for Ukraine. Instead, they’ve used reckless rhetoric to escalate U.S. involvement and explicitly signaled their intent to take down a nuclear power against voters’ desires.

DeSantis-appointed judge declares Florida redistricting map unconstitutional over Black voter suppression

David Edwards

May 11, 2022

A judge appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has reportedly decided that a redistricting map created by Florida Republicans is unconstitutional.

CNN correspondent Dianne Gallagher reported that Florida Circuit Court Judge Layne Smith determined "that a new congressional map approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis is likely unconstitutional, siding with Democrats and voting rights groups who said the map would illegally suppress Black voters in northern Florida."

The judge indicated that he would issue an order preventing the map from going into effect "because it diminishes African Americans' ability to elect the representative of their choice," Gallagher said.

Republican Ron Johnson says it 'may be true' that COVID vaccines cause AIDS

Henry Redman, Wisconsin Examiner

May 03, 2022

In a video interview published on the right-wing social media platform Rumble, Sen. Ron Johnson said it “may be true” that vaccines against COVID-19 cause AIDS.

Johnson was being interviewed by anti-vaccine lawyer Todd Callender, who alleged that the shots induce AIDS and that the FDA knew so when the vaccines were approved for emergency use.

“The way to approach this is from a criminal point of view because that’s what has happened. And until we start holding people accountable, [Dr. Anthony] Fauci number one, you’re going to see people still falling out, still getting sick,” Calendar said. “You’ve got more than a hundred doctors here, all of whom will tell you that these shots caused vaccine-induced AIDS. they purposefully gave people AIDS. They knew this.”

Exposure of this mis information is a good thing. Not censorship just Exposure. Showing the world that they actually believe that the government is in control of free press.

The Biden administration’s announcement of creating a new ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ reveals desperation in the face of Americans waking up to overwhelming evidence of coverup and deceit by mainstream and social media on life and death matters. First, people are coming to realize the truth behind the so-called COVID-19 pandemic, with all the attendant life-threatening bad advice and loss of Constitutional freedoms and rights that took place. Second, people are now seeing documentary proof of undeniable evidence of industrial-scale vote fraud that drove an illegitimate result in the November 2020 elections.

Many have drawn parallels between Biden’s ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ and George Orwell’s ‘Ministry of Truth,’ arguing that it’s a threat to First Amendment free speech. But wait. Haven’t we already been living in the matrix of an Orwellian world, with freedom of speech in America hanging by a thread even before this crazy Disinformation Governance Board was hatched?

In Orwell’s own words the Ministry of Truth had two primary objectives:  1) the institutionalization of propaganda narratives, which were designed to warp and destroy people’s grasp on reality; and 2) the fostering of groupthink, conformity, and collectivism designed to eliminate critical and independent thinking.

It has been widely assumed that because the press is not state-controlled in the U.S., there is a long way to go before the American government has the power of Orwell’s Big Brother. Nothing could be further from the truth.

This is classic fascist rhetoric. Scott you might not know that you have been brainwashed.

The Inhumanity of Compulsory Virus Control

In the last week, some of the top spokespeople for lockdowns, and all that is associated with that policy of pathogenic control, have come out to defend them plus threatening more now that we are seeing seasonal increases in cases.

It’s almost as if they have learned nothing.

They certainly haven’t admitted error – Bill Gates will never do that – despite all the carnage all around us. It includes not only destroyed businesses and educational losses but also inflation, goods shortages, weakened financial markets, broken supply chains, social and political conflict, and countless broken lives.

All of this traces to lockdowns, a policy advocated and enforced by specific people, mostly powerful and highly paid intellectuals, and amplified by the media.

They say that no one could have known. Not so. Drs. Bhattacharya, Kulldorff, Gupta, Atlas, Tenenbaum, Risch, McCullough, Urso, Dara, Wolf, Oskoui, Ladapo and other contrarians such as Jeffrey Tucker, Ivor Cummings, and Paul Joseph Watson, and many other writers at Brownstone, were right on the devastation and failures of COVID lockdowns.

We wrote nearly two years now clamoring against the devastation that would come from societal lockdowns and school closures. We wrote extensively on the ineffectiveness of masks (references 1, 2, 3, 4) and the accrued harms, especially for children, yet were ridiculed and dismissed by the media and the medical establishment. We reported on the catastrophic effects of COVID lockdowns on children, yet were dismissed and canceled.

We felt that it was lockdown lunacy when we could have used an age-risk stratified ‘focused’ protection approach (Great Barrington Declaration), with strong protections of the vulnerable high-risk in our societies first, while allowing the rest of the lower-risk healthy and well in society (younger persons) to live largely normal lives with unfettered tampering by governments. We even added the need for vitamin D supplementation, body weight control, and the use of early outpatient treatment, but were scoffed at and dismissed as heretics. We were ridiculed, slandered, and smeared, despite evidence of the vicious societal costs from lockdowns and the near 500 studies and pieces of evidence that show the failures and harms from lockdowns and school closures.

It was stupefying to us skeptics and contrarians as to why governments, whose primary roles are to protect their citizens, were taking such draconian and punitive actions despite the compelling evidence (that was available and accumulated one month after the pandemic onset) that the restrictive policies were misdirected and very harmful; causing palpable harm to human welfare on so many levels. It was tantamount to insanity what governments did to their populations and largely based on no scientific footing.

In this, we lost our civil liberties and essential rights, all based on spurious ‘science’ or worse, opinion, and this erosion of fundamental freedoms and democracy was being championed by government leaders who were disregarding the Constitutional (USA) and Charter (Canada) limits to their right to make and enact policy.

These unconstitutional and unprecedented restrictions have taken a staggering toll on our health and well-being and also targeted the very precepts of democracy; particularly given the fact that this viral pandemic was no different in overall impact on society than many previous pandemics.

Biden hails farmers as 'backbone of freedom'

Joe Biden has just wrapped up an address to agricultural workers in Kankakee, Illinois, in which he promised support for farmers and new measures to make food prices more affordable.

The president hailed farmers as “the backbone of the country” and “the backbone of freedom” as he blamed soaring inflation and high prices on Russian president Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine:

You feed America. You got us through a pandemic and you’re literally the backbone of our country. But you’re also feeding the world. And we’re seeing Putin’s war in Ukraine, you’re like the backbone of freedom.

America’s fighting on two fronts. At home, inflation and rising prices. Abroad, it’s helping Ukrainians defend democracy, and feeding those who are left hungry around the world because Russian atrocities exist.

American farmers understand Putin’s war has has has cut off critical sources of food.

Making the federal government the official custodian of truth would be like Brink’s giving a safe-cracker a job driving an armored car. On top of that, who is going to accept DHS’ determinations? Not reporters, who are accustomed to government lies. Not the man in the street. Certainly not the so-called low-information voters the government would like to diaper and stuff into an escape-proof playpen. By conjuring the Disinformation Governance Board into existence, the Biden administration will give itself a referee’s power to declare some things completely out of bounds. Without stepping out on the slippery slope, that would give Biden’s people the power to find some things dangerous or objectionable. After branding something disinformation, it’s only a short slide to suppressing the contested information or replacing it with what Kellyanne Conway fancifully called “alternative facts.”

If Russian disinformation is a problem, it has been so for almost a century. As Lawfare reported in 2017, the Russians started sending out fake defectors in the 1930s to spread disinformation in the West. After World War II, the Soviets shifted their focus to the United States. Two years after the surrender of Nazi Germany, Soviet leadership sought to influence public opinion by covertly funding newspapers and radio stations around the world and establishing fronts to nurture communism. It forged documents and attempted to plant them in credible publications. In one disinformation campaign, it promulgated the tall tale that AIDS was the product of an American biological weapons experimentation. And so on.

Somehow we survived the Soviet onslaught without a Disinformation Governance Board to guide us. Not every particle of disinformation can be blocked. Anybody who is good at inventing lies can produce disinformation faster than anybody can shoot disinformation down. (See this RAND report about the Russian “firehose“ of lies.) Instead of installing a Truth Politburo at DHS, the government should leave the job of policing disinformation to the competitive organs of the press, which compete “to obtain the earliest and most correct intelligence of the time, and instantly, by disclosing them to make them the common property of the nation,” as Times of London editor J. T. Delane put it in 1852.

If DHS so badly needs a paperwork project, it can address a problem closer to home: set up a bureau to study and eradicate U.S. government disinformation.

Russia has signaled intent to end 'current phase' of invasion, cut losses with Kherson referendum: Expert says

Russia's made its first honest assessment of Ukraine's accomplishments: Gen. Keane

Russia has potentially signaled intent to end the invasion of Ukraine and integrate the Kherson region,
an intelligence expert told Fox News Digital.

Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists that "residents of Kherson must decide for themselves" whether they will "appeal" for "integration of the region into the Russian territory," according to TASS.

Peskov refused to be drawn on the possibility of a referendum, saying he "stated what I wanted to state," but former DIA officer Rebekah Koffler argued that Moscow will proceed with a referendum to provide "legal justification" for Russia to integrate Kherson.

"This is standard Russian statecraft," Koffler explained. "In 2014, 95.5% of Crimean residents voted for joining Russia."

But Koffler, author of  "Putin’s Playbook: Russia’s Secret Plan to Defeat America," further believes that integrating Kherson would be enough for Putin to say he achieved his goal for the current phase of the invasion, which Moscow has continued to call [ONLY]on a "special operation" in Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that completion of the "special operation" would stop the West’s attempts to "promote a unipolar world," which Lavrov defined as "attempts to undermine international law."

Lavrov repeated the same talking points Moscow has pushed since before the invasion started, claiming that Russia's intent behind the invasion was to protect "the inhabitants of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics from the Kyiv neo-Nazi regime" and ensure "the West will not build a military threat to the security of the Russian Federation from the territory of Ukraine."

"This is the first time, since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, that such a senior Russian official mentioned the idea of ending the ‘special operation,’" Koffler said.

The Kherson region would provide Russia its much-desired access to Southern Ukraine and establish a land bridge to Crimea. By securing this access, Russia would be able to control the mouth of the Dnieper River, which bisects Ukraine and provides access along the length of the country.

"Realizing he can’t win the war – as long as the U.S. and NATO are providing formidable weaponry and real-time intelligence to Ukraine – Putin is probably considering cutting his losses and ending the operation at this stage," Koffler said.

"If Putin absorbs Kherson into Russia or at least establishes another breakaway ‘People’s Republic’ — like Donetsk and Luhansk — he will have achieved the goals of this current phase of war," she added.

Even President Barack Obama shortchanged the truth. Not so long ago, 50 intelligence officials — each of them smarter and better informed than any DHS brainiac — assured the nation that the Hunter Biden laptop story bore “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” How did that work out? The idea that Covid could have come from a Chinese lab was similarly dismissed as disinformation; now it’s considered a legitimate possibility by the Biden administration. Meanwhile, we have documented proof from the Washington Post that even Joe Biden can’t handle simple truths! (We don’t need to reassess the Donald Trump presidency here, do we?)

Russia might annex occupied Kherson

Russian-appointed authorities in the southern Ukraine city of Kherson announced plans Wednesday to seek annexation by Russia – and the Ukraine response was that those authorities might as well ask to join 'Mars or Jupiter."

Kirill Stremousov, deputy head of the Russian regional military-civilian administration, also said that, by the end of May, a bank for converting money to Russian rubles will start operating in the region and ultimately will be integrated into the Bank of Russia. He said there were no plans to create a separate republic such as those sought in the eastern Donbas region.

"There will be no referendums," Stemousov said of the annexation. "It will be a decree based on an appeal from the Kherson regional leadership to the Russian president.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it would be “up to the residents of the Kherson region" to make such a request, and that the request would be closely evaluated by experts to make sure its legal basis is “absolutely clear.”

Kherson, a Black Sea port city of almost 300,000, is one of few major Ukraine cities to be under Russian control.

Ukraine presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak dismissed the annexation plan.

"The invaders may ask to join even Mars or Jupiter," he tweeted. "The Ukrainian army will liberate Kherson, no matter what games with words they play."

Ukraine to Try Russian Soldier for War Crimes

A Russian soldier now in Ukrainian detention will be the first to stand trial for alleged war crimes, Ukraine’s prosecutor-general said Wednesday, after an investigation concluded he had fired several shots at an unarmed, elderly resident in northeastern Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said her office had filed the first indictment for violating the laws and customs of war against the 21-year-old Russian soldier, identified as Vadim Shishimarin.

Mr. Shishimarin allegedly fired several shots from a Kalashnikov rifle at the head of an unarmed 62-year-old man, who died on the spot just a few dozen meters from his own home in the village of Chupakhivka in Ukraine’s Sumy region, Ms. Venediktova said.
The events unfolded on Feb. 28, she said, days after Russia had launched a full-blown invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian soldier, a tank-division commander, faces between 10 to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment, the prosecutor-general added.

TOO GOOD FOR HIM?

Ms. Venediktova told The Wall Street Journal on May 6 that her office had identified about 40 members of the Russian military who prosecutors suspected of war crimes, about 17 of those from the region around Kyiv. A few of the suspects were in custody in Ukraine, she said.

“When we’re ready, we’ll go with these prosecutions in court,” she said.

Ukrainian authorities filed criminal charges last month against 10 Russian soldiers accused of taking civilians hostage and mistreating them in the Kyiv suburb of Bucha. That was the first such move by prosecutors investigating possible war crimes by Moscow’s forces. Ukraine plans to adjudicate the Bucha war-crimes cases in its domestic courts before issuing international criminal arrest warrants.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of war crimes after what Ukrainian officials have said was a Russian decision to target civilian populations as its military offensive encountered stiff Ukrainian resistance.

The U.S. government accused Russian forces in Ukraine of committing war crimes, an action that will formalize continuing investigations into alleged atrocities.

Moscow has denied committing war crimes or targeting civilians. It made no comment Wednesday on the new charges.

(PLAY IT SAFE. THE EVIDENCE COULD BE OVERWHELMING.)

The developments occurred as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed a security pact with Sweden and Finland pledging to support their militaries should they come under attack.

The pacts call for more intelligence sharing, joint military training and bolstering security. A statement from the prime minister made no mention of Russia. Finland and Sweden have said they are both considering joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and will make a decision in the coming weeks...

Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, accused Russian troops in Ukraine of shipping grains and produce critical to the Ukrainian economy to Crimea, adding to their list of grievances against Russian occupying forces, as local pro-Russian officials called for incorporation into Russia.

Donald Trump was the Pope of the anti reformation era of the 21st century.

In U.S. President-elect Joe Biden’s victory speech last November, he vowed his administration would “marshal the forces of science” to take bold action against climate change and the pandemic. Describing his election as a “great day” for American educators, he drafted a national coronavirus strategy with a clear mandate: “Listen to science.”

Biden, now halfway through his first year as president, has mostly followed through. He appointed a leading geneticist as his top science adviser and elevated his role to the Cabinet rank. He established a new position—deputy director for science and society at the Office of Science and Technology Policy—and filled it with a renowned sociologist. He reengaged the World Health Organization and issued a detailed pandemic plan focused on health equity and higher vaccination rates. He rejoined the Paris Climate Agreement and set an ambitious target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by around 50 percent by 2030.

This all broke with his predecessor. Under former President Donald Trump, more than two-thirds of scientists across 16 federal agencies reported that hiring freezes and departures interfered with their work. Federal funding was cut for expertise on matters ranging from invasive insect risk to the effects of chemicals on pregnant women. The White House attempted to undermine the National Climate Assessment and even sent a “cease and desist” order to a top National Park Service scientist for testifying to Congress about climate change. The Trump administration moved coronavirus data collection away from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic.

Biden has a historic opportunity to reverse Trump’s regressive science policies. Yet to achieve a more fundamental change in how American political culture approaches science, Biden has to go further to confront an unsettling reality: Current suspicions of science did not begin with the election of one man in 2016. They have often been symptomatic of frustrations and critiques that gained relevance decades prior to Trump’s inauguration, leading many critics to write off scientists as just another untrustworthy, out-of-touch group of elites.

In my new book, Deep Time Reckoning, I refer to this as a “deflation of expertise.” To understand its origins, I first had to leave my home country and experience everyday life in a society that approaches scientific and other forms of expertise differently: Finland. Reflecting on these contrasts can reveal some of the societal disillusionments that fueled Trump’s war on science—and help the U.S. move beyond them.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

But the reasons behind this intensification of anti-science political fervor, especially among conservatives, the majority of whom are White people, are complex and multifaceted.

Biden faces a grand challenge: regaining trust in science among those who have lost faith in expertise itself.

I will focus on a few that I see as particularly relevant to the intensification of anti-elitism in the U.S. For one thing, some White Americans have had to reckon with a crumbling American Dream. Over the past two decades, working-class White people have seen decreased life expectancies and increased rates of suicide and opioid overdoses. Meanwhile, middle-class White males’ wages have stagnated or, in some cases, declined.

These economic changes, alongside other factors, have led some conservatives to feel that “establishment” institutions—not just in media and government, but also in science and technology—have abandoned them. Some also say they’ve lost faith in the country’s higher education system. According to a 2017 Gallup poll, Republican or Republican-leaning voters tend to be concerned that these institutions are “too liberal/political” and don’t allow students to “think for themselves.” Some critics fear conservative students are marginalized by far-left faculty and administrators, a critique that hasn’t been borne out by the research.

Today only 37 percent of conservative Republicans believe in global warming—down from 49 percent in 2008. Many reject peer-reviewed findings on COVID-19 or view public health guidance as a threat to their sense of self-determination. Only 27 percent of Republicans—compared to 43 percent of respondents who are or lean Democrat—report “a great deal” of confidence in the scientific community as a whole.

I look for this to provide some reality to the former coldheartedtruth.

Modern Republicans want to reverse everything since the reformation and reconciliation eras.

There was no reason to lock down, constrain and harm ordinarily healthy, well, and younger or working-age members of the population irreparably; the very people who would be expected to and would have extricated us from this factitious nightmare and helped us survive the damages caused by possibly the greatest self-inflicted public health fiasco ever promulgated on societies.

There was no good reason, no sound science, no justification to have continued the illogical lockdown lunacy and school closure policy that did far greater harm than good. Why when we saw the failure of lockdowns did we harden them? Never in human history have we done this and employed such overtly oppressive restrictions with no basis.

A fundamental tenet of public health medicine is that those with actual disease or who are at great risk of contracting disease are quarantined, not people with low disease risk; not the well. This was ignored by an embarrassingly large number of health experts upon whom our politicians relied for advice.

These experts seemed academically sloppy and cognitively limited, unable to read the science or understand the data that was clear. We should have used a more ‘targeted’ (population-specific age and risk) approach in relation to the implementation of public health measures as opposed to the inelegant and shotgun tactics forced upon us that was so very devastating.

Optimally, the key elements for modern public health include refraining from causing societal disruption (or at most, minimally) and to ensure freedom is maintained in the advent of pathogen emergence while concurrently protecting overall health and well-being. We did none of that. We locked down the well and healthy and still failed to protect the high-risk vulnerable, all the while decimating our peoples societally and destroying economies.

What updated evidence do we have about the failure of lockdowns? Sweden has shown us that we were correct in our fight against the lockdown lunatics at CDC, NIH, and the Trump and Biden administrations. Sweden incurred far fewer deaths per capita than most of Europe even when they refused to enforce strict lockdown policies.

The harms and deaths from the lockdowns belong to Fauci and Birx. It was their lockdowns that POTUS Trump enacted, misguided as he was. He trusted their counsel and guidance, and they betrayed him and Americans for they were not acting on the prevailing science. Children committed suicide across America as a result.

MANY lives would have been saved if Trump had listened to Birx and Fauci sooner. They almost had to rope and tie him to keep him from PACKING THE CHURCHES ON EASTER WHEN IT WOULD HAVE LED TO NUMEROUS DEATHS.

"Mr. President, people will DIE!" Fauci told him as he and Birx piled PILES of evidence on his desk.

HE WANTED TO APPEAR THE GREAT HERO AND ONLY WHEN THEY CONVINCED HIM IT WOULD GO THE OTHER WAY AGAINST HIM DID HE RELENT AND STOP HIS INSANE YELLING FOR PACKING THE CHURCHES.

That guy's claims are faulty in that he doesn't tell the whole story which creates a distorted impression.

I'm familiar with what happened in Sweden because in the beginning I also believed we should take that approach. I was so sure I was right that I felt utterly humiliated when Sweden had a higher death rate than countries that took the lockdown approach.

Sweden changed tactics and did start lockdowns and limits. Once the vaccines became available they had an aggressive campaign and also started requiring "vaccine passports" for people to enter various places. Sweden has a 80-something percent vaccination rate.

So, no. Their death rate per capita was very high in 2020 and went down only after they changed tactics.
