Bit off-topic but relevant to thread:

Something Stinks In Georgia
The GOP primary numbers are funny because the votes were rigged

President Trump had endorsed quite a few candidates in Georgia, including David Perdue in the gubernatorial race with Brian Kemp, and Jody Hice in the race for Secretary of State against Brad Raffensperger. His endorsements were decisive in almost every political race in America this year. So why was Georgia such an outlier?

Sure, Georgia is an open primary state — Democrats are allowed to vote in the GOP primaries there — but that’s not the real story. Look at the RCP polling average: Brian Kemp was getting 52% of the votes and his main challenger, David Perdue, was getting 38% of the votes just before the race.

On Primary Day in Georgia, Kemp gets 74% and Perdue gets 22%. Nobody in any election in America gets 74% of the votes. Ever. It doesn’t happen.

Obvious fraud.

Brian Kemp’s funny numbers are not the only funny numbers in the Georgia primaries either. In the race for insurance commissioner, Trump-endorsed candidate Patrick Witt lost to a nobody named John King — and John King got 70% of the votes!

Now take a look at Patrick Witt’s numbers county by county: he got the same percentage of votes in 122 out of 159 counties in Georgia.

Let me repeat: the same percentage. Patrick Witt gets the same percentage in deep blue counties as he gets in deep red counties. Uniform numbers.

A month ago, the University of Georgia conducted a poll of Georgia’s Republican voters found very different results that directly contradict these funny numbers. In fact, the University of Georgia was predicting that Trump-endorsed candidates were going to win almost everything — which is happening in every other state in the country right now.

Allow me to quote at length:

It was in the down-ballot races where Trump’s endorsement made the most difference. State Sen. Burt Jones, R-Jackson, who is running for lieutenant governor with Trump’s endorsement against Senate President Pro Tempore Butch Miller, R-Gainesville, saw his support in the poll soar from 29.7% to 58.9% among voters told Trump was backing his candidacy. Miller’s support dropped slightly from 10.6% to 8.2% when voters were told he was not Trump’s pick.

The large contingent of undecided voters in the lieutenant governor’s race — 54.2% — fell significantly to 29.8% among voters who were told Trump was backing Jones.

Incumbent Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who refused to go along with Trump’s attempts to overturn the presidential election results in Georgia in 2020, decided not to seek re-election.

U.S. Rep. Jody Hice, R-Greensboro, who Trump is backing for secretary of state against incumbent Brad Raffensperger, doubled his support in the poll — from 30.3% to 60.3% — when voters were told of the former president’s endorsement.

One Lie After Another

Out this summer: The Big Lie: Election Chaos, Political Opportunism, and the State of American Politics After 2020 by Jonathan Lemire.

Publishers Weekly: “Tracing the roots of the January 6 Capitol riot to an August 2016 rally in which Trump first publicly said that he expected the upcoming presidential election to be rigged, Lemire sketches Trump’s long record of distortions about his real estate holdings, wealth, TV ratings, and sex life.”

Despite Trump’s aggressive intervention in the state, three top Republican officials who rebuffed his efforts to overturn the 2020 election — Gov. Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Attorney General Chris Carr — coasted to victory over their Trump-backed rivals.

The string of losses for Trump’s preferred candidates in Georgia underscores the limits of the former president’s efforts to exact vengeance against his perceived Republican critics. But they also offer some of the clearest evidence to date that Trump’s grip on the GOP may be weakening as he looks to keep the focus on his 2020 electoral loss and false claims of voter fraud.

“I don’t want to say this is the beginning of the end for Trump, but I do think there’s been a move toward the idea that most Americans don’t want to look back,” said Chuck Clay, a former state senator and Georgia GOP chair.

There was never a single poll that showed Perdue beating Kemp. Sure, at one time it was a tight race. Most of the March and early April polls showed Kemp up by small double digits (11, 12, that sort of thing). THen in late April Kemp started pulling away. led by 14, 16, 25, then was into the 30's by the time it was all said and done.

Was his final victory higher than what the pollsters suggested?

Sure.... but that can happen when it becomes obvious that one candidate is going to win and the other is going to lose. Certainly there could have been some Democrats flipping over and voting against the Trump backed Perdue. But I think it was just one of those things where mighty momentum was a thing and most of the people coming out truly believe that Kemp will beat Abrams much easier than Perdue could have.

Do you want to address the actual gun violence problem...

or the more politically beneficial problem?

Because by over a 20 to 1 margin... the real gun violences is hand guns. Rifles account for very little gun violence overall and for every assault rifle that is used in a crime there are 5000 other assault rifles owned by law abiding citizens following their constitutionally protected right to own one.

So let me guess Roger.

Your brilliant plan would be to do nothing about the hand guns that accounts for the vast vast vast majority of our gun violence....

Why Team Biden might be purposefully grinding down the middle class

first quarter of 2022 — in first GDP drop since pandemic
Vladimir Lenin supposedly once said, “The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.”

There’s some doubt as to whether this line is genuine; regardless, it seems like a pretty good description of what the Biden administration is doing to America’s middle class.

Inflation is running rampant. The Producer Price Index, the most useful measure of general inflation, is up a whopping 16.3% from April 2021, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That means that roughly $1 out of every $6 that people earn has been lost to inflation in a single year. Or to put it another way, 80 minutes’ earnings out of every eight-hour day have been eaten up.

This is predictable, of course. Team Biden took an already-bloated federal budget and supersized it with spending last year, printing money hand-over-fist to fund a massive array of pork-filled programs, many if not most of which guided billions of dollars into the pockets of Democratic Party supporters.

President Joe Biden dismissed inflation worries at the time, saying that Milton Friedman — the famed inflation-fighting economist — no longer runs the show. Well, the late economist certainly didn’t run Biden’s show, but his observation that inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon was borne out in spades as prices took off.

And it was a double whammy. Inflation comes when you have too much money chasing too few goods. The spending part provided the excess money, but the Biden team was right there helping to ensure fewer goods, too.

Gas prices going up? Not only was Biden’s spending program stimulating inflation, but at the same time Biden policies were reducing the amount of gasoline, diesel and heating oil those dollars could buy. Biden went wild canceling pipelines, ending gas and oil leases, imposing stricter environmental rules and — in cooperation with big institutional investors — choking off the finances of people trying to produce new fuel supplies.

As Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) observed, “There has been a comprehensive hostility to the energy sector by this administration.” And how.

Even electric-car king Elon Musk has been mocking the Biden administration’s fixation on ending fossil fuels. The realities of physics and the marketplace mean that replacing gasoline vehicles with electric cars isn’t going to happen soon, no matter how big a squeeze Team Biden puts on Americans.

And what a squeeze it is. Even in Knoxville, where gas prices tend to be lower, I’ve paid more than $5 a gallon for gas. In other parts of the country, it’s selling for more than $7. Diesel — needed to move goods whose prices are already going up because of inflation — is even more expensive, adding costs to everything in what’s left of our supply-chain network. And there’s no relief in sight.

Natasha Kaneva, a J.P. Morgan researcher, predicts a “cruel summer” with gas prices averaging more than $6 a gallon by August. Team Biden likes this, because it will encourage people to drive less and to buy electric cars.

Snip…

Then there’s the baby-formula shortage, which is not the result of a natural disaster or war but an overreaching Food and Drug Administration order that shut down a huge swath of domestic production (which FDA and other federal policies had already limited to a handful of big players), with little or no thought to the consequences. Now the Biden team, in a sort of reverse Berlin Airlift, is flying in pallets of formula from Europe, which may look good on TV but does little to address the problem.

C.H. Truth said...

Is your plan to take away rifles from law abiding citizens even though blunt objects account for more murders than rifles...

Yesterday.

According to a New York Times report published this afternoon, federal investigators have “stepped up” their criminal probe.

A federal grand jury in Washington has started issuing subpoenas in recent weeks to people linked to the alternate elector plan, requesting information about several lawyers including Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani and one of his chief legal advisers, John Eastman, one of the people said. The subpoenas also seek information on other pro-Trump lawyers like Jenna Ellis, who worked with Mr. Giuliani, and Kenneth Chesebro, who wrote memos supporting the elector scheme in the weeks after the election.

The Times’ reporting has not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News. That said, these apparent revelations probably ought to make members of Team Trump rather nervous.

Remember, it was in early February that the public started to learn the degree to which the former president’s team was directly connected to the fake electors scheme. The New York Times reported at the time on a Trump campaign lawyer in Wisconsin receiving a memo in November 2020 “setting out what became the rationale for an audacious strategy: to put in place alternate slates of electors in states where President Donald J. Trump was trying to overturn his loss.”

That memo, sent just two weeks after Election Day 2020, was written by Kenneth Chesebro, a Trump lawyer referenced in today’s reporting. Three weeks later, the same Trump lawyer sent a second memo, shortly before actual electors were set to cast their votes, offering a step-by-step guide on what the fake electors would have to do.

He's obviously not alone. Eastman reportedly contacted state legislators, falsely advising them that they had the authority to certify fake electors, while Giuliani has been accused of helping coordinate the fake electors scheme.

And now, if the Times’ reporting is correct, a federal grand jury has issued subpoenas. Watch this space.

But so your common sense solution to gun violence that kills 20,000 people or more a year is to punish law abiding citizens, make them turn over their own property... (paid for or not)....

In order to attempt to prevent the couple of hundred that might die from rifles... even though most killers would simply switch to a handgun or buy a gun off the black market.

Quick note 5 minutes ago
A new bipartisan Senate group on gun control is hyper-focused on operating in the realm of what's possible, even if the end result is a deal that falls short of what many Democrats want, sources familiar with its meeting on Thursday tell Axios.

Why it matters: The five Democrats and four Republicans involved in the talks have agreed to work toward something narrowly focused — not a political messaging bill — that can win over 10 Senate Republicans by the time Congress returns from recess on June 6.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), who hosted the group in his office Thursday, signaled he'll take virtually any deal."I am so willing to bend over backward to find a compromise. … I need a vote that just shows progress," he said. "I'm perfectly willing to let the good prevail over the perfect."

The latest: Members of the group left the Capitol on Thursday more hopeful than they've been in years about the possibility of a compromise.

Notably, even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gave the negotiations his blessing, and encouraged Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) to get involved in the talks. As Axios previously reported, senators in both parties had hoped Cornyn — who serves in the state where elementary kids were gunned down — would be a point person for bipartisan negotiations.

Details: Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) hosted Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Martine Heinrich (D-N.M.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Susan Collins (R-Maine) and retiring Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) for an in-person meeting on the Hill earlier today.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) phoned in.Nearly all of these members have been involved in key gun reform proposals in the past. Many also successfully worked together on the bipartisan infrastructure bill that passed into law last year.Murphy also met with Cornyn and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) — who told Axios he's open to a federal red flag law — separately on Thursday.

What they're saying: Sinema, who is leaning heavily on her background as a licensed social worker, told reporters this week: "There's some shared agreement on red flag, which I think might be a place to start conversations to actually get something done for real that would make a difference !
____
But they are worried because they are taking a break it might fall apart

Biden 'not doing enough'

Democrat senator Chris Murphy said their plan was to "work hard at a compromise".

"Hopefully, we succeed, and the Senate can vote on a bipartisan bill that saves lives," he said.

But David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland school massacre in Florida, said Mr Biden was "not doing enough".

"I've talked many times to the White House," he said, "and repeatedly we hear again and again: 'Well … there's X thing that comes up, there's Y thing that comes up.'"

White House spokesman Michael Gwin said they were "continuing to look at every tool we have to stop gun violence", including through executive actions.

Senator's desperate plea for gun action

Since taking office in January 2021, the Biden administration has taken several steps without Congress.

They include requiring that "ghost guns", which are often assembled from kits, be regulated the same way as traditional firearms, and launching a strike force aimed at cracking down on illegal firearms trafficking in major cities, including New York and Los Angeles.

Po Murray, who chairs the grassroots group Newtown Action Alliance, said the White House needs an office of gun violence prevention.

"Since we elected a gun safety president, he could certainly do more," she said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students at Oxford High School, the Michigan school where four were killed in November, walked out on Thursday and formed a 'U' on the football field to show support for students and families in Uvalde.

Student Andrew Sholtz told the Detroit News: "We went through the same thing. I lost a lot of friends. I thought it would be respectful to help other people through it."

New York Times: “That’s a vast oversimplification, of course. Republican pollsters have been known to sort G.O.P. voters into seven categories or more, ranging from committed Christians to pro-business types to squishy never-Trumpers.

“But when it comes to choosing sides in primaries, a split is widening. There’s the national party, led by Donald Trump in Florida and Kevin McCarthy, the top Republican in the House, with Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, toggling between foe and ally as the occasion warrants.

“And then there’s the G.O.P. that is rooted in state power, run by a core group of pragmatic, often less hard-line governors who represent states as different as libertarian-leaning Arizona and deep-blue Massachusetts.”

Donald Trump and his children Donald Trump Jr and Ivanka Trump have been ordered to testify in a New York state civil investigation of their business affairs.

The state attorney general, Letitia James, said: “A court has once again ruled in our favor and ordered Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr and Ivanka Trump to appear before my office to testify under oath.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

“Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law.”

James is a Democrat. Trump, a Republican, has claimed James’s investigation of suspected tax-related offences at the Trump Organization is politically motivated and a “witch-hunt”.

James is African American. The former president has claimed she is racist.

Trump did not immediately comment on Thursday.

Eric Trump, the former president’s second son, testified in the investigation in October 2020, while his father was in the White House.

The other three Trumps have fought subpoenas for testimony, part of a refusal to cooperate that led to an accumulating fine for contempt. A New York state judge capped the sum at $110,000. It was paid.

The investigation is one of a number of legal threats to the former president but as a civil matter it could result only in financial penalties.

Other investigations, including into Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn election results in Georgia and regarding the deadly Capitol attack of January 6, could result in criminal charges.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

In a January court filing, James said it was suspected that misleading financial statements were filed about properties including 40 Wall Street in Manhattan, Trump’s penthouse apartment in Trump Tower and golf courses in New York and Scotland.

In March 2016, the Guardian reported on tax affairs at Trump National Golf Club in Ossining, New York. Its headline: “How Trump’s $50m golf club became $1.4m when it came time to pay tax.”

On Thursday, in its order denying the Trumps’ appeal, the New York appellate division, first judicial department said: “In connection with the civil investigation into whether respondents have committed persistent fraud in their financial practices and disclosures, supreme court properly rejected appellants’ arguments that the subpoenas issued by [James] should be quashed”.

Rejecting arguments pursued by Trump lawyers, the order said the existence of a criminal investigation into Trump’s business affairs – out of New York City, an effort which has recently lost steam – did not preclude testimony in the civil case.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It also said James’s “political campaign and other public statements” about the Trumps “do not support the claim that [James] initiated, or is using, the subpoenas in this civil investigation to obtain testimony solely for use in a criminal proceeding or in a manner that would otherwise improperly undermine appellants’ privilege against self-incrimination”.

James properly initiated her investigation in March 2019, the order said, after Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, alleged in congressional testimony that the Trump Organization “had issued fraudulent financial statements”.

Earlier this week, James said she had subpoenaed Trump’s longtime assistant, Rhona Graff, and would question her under oath next week.

In the New York criminal investigation, Allen Weisselberg, Trump’s longtime finance chief, and the Trump Organization have both been charged with tax fraud. Both pleaded not guilty.

What's never discussed ever is if what they "did" actually accomplished anything. And it never does.

The leftist response to any issue, problem, etc. is always -

A) Throw money at it

B) Pass a law

C) Both

Results are meaningless. It's like gift-giving. It's the 'thought' that counts.

President Biden was planning on how to fight for the unity of our allies from day one.

Secret Planning Kept White House a Step Ahead of Russia

David Ignatius: “The first instruction that Secretary of State Antony Blinken got from President Biden was to ‘reset’ America’s alliances and partnerships abroad so that the United States could deal with the challenges ahead. That strategy would prove decisive in combating Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.”

“Blinken and other officials gave me new details this week, describing a series of behind-the-scenes meetings over the past year that helped forge the U.S.-led coalition to support Ukraine. His narrative validates President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s observation in a 1957 speech: ‘Plans are worthless, but planning is everything.’”

“The Biden administration’s secret planning began in April 2021 when Russia massed about 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border. The buildup turned out to be a feint, but Blinken and other officials discussed U.S. intelligence about Russia’s actions with leaders of Britain, France and Germany at a NATO meeting in Brussels that month. Their message was, ‘We need to get ourselves prepared,’ a senior State Department official said.”

U.S. intelligence provided Ukraine with a preview of Putin’s battle plan. Though Russia had surrounded Ukraine with 150,000 troops, Putin’s real strategy was a lightning, decapitating strike on Kyiv by a relatively small group of elite special forces. The Russians planned to seize Antonov Airport in Hostomel, west of the capital, and then use it to quickly pump troops into Kyiv.

The Ukrainians knew the Russians were coming. Burns had secretly traveled to Kyiv in January to brief Zelensky on the Russian plan, according to two knowledgeable officials. The Ukrainians used the U.S. intelligence to devastate the attacking force at Hostomel, in what may turn out to be the decisive battle of the war. “The Russians had no Plan B,” explained Marek Menkiszak, a Polish intelligence analyst with the Centre for Eastern Studies in Warsaw.

The Ukraine threat got red-hot in October, when the United States gathered intelligence about a renewed Russian buildup on the border, along with “some detail about what Russian plans for those forces actually were,” Blinken said. This operational detail “was really the eye opener.” The Group of 20 nations were meeting at the end of October in Rome, and Biden pulled aside the leaders of Britain, France and Germany and gave them a detailed readout on the top-secret evidence.

“It was galvanizing enough that there was an agreement … to fleshing out the consequences for Russia if it went ahead with the aggression,” Blinken said.

CIA Director William J. Burns traveled to Moscow on Nov. 1 to warn President Vladimir Putin that the United States and its allies were prepared to arm Ukraine and impose crippling sanctions on Russia if he invaded. Putin apparently thought Biden wouldn’t be able to deliver.

And he was right. Those "crippling" (LOL) sanctions did nothing and the ruble has risen significantly in relation to the US dollar.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) told Axios on Thursday he's earnestly engaged in talks with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) over a climate, energy and deficit reduction package, reviving hopes for action this year.

Why it matters: Even a slimmed-down version of President Biden's Build Back Better package looked dead. But comments by Manchin, along with tempered optimism from some Democrats, suggests a Biden win on the Hill in this midterm year has gone from unlikely to possible.

Coupled with the fact that gun control legislation is possible, this could be a game changer.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will skip Friday's National Rifle Association convention and instead make a return trip to Uvalde, the rural town devastated by an elementary school shooting this week, his office said Thursday evening.

Abbott, who is seeking re-election in November, will record video remarks that will be shown at the NRA event in Houston, a spokesman for the governor told NBC News. He had been scheduled to speak in person.

Here’s some more “shocking” news from the American Center for Law & Justice: According to a memo obtained in a FOIA lawsuit, officials from the Obama administration were holding secret meetings with Iran while President Trump was in office. This is something we all knew, but now the ACLJ has documentation of one of the meetings.

Armed Woman Thwarts Potential Mass Shooting at Charleston Apartment Complex
The now deceased shooter was a convicted felon who could not legally own a gun

Charleston police reported that a man was killed by a woman armed with a handgun after he opened fire on a crowd with an AR-15. The shooter was a convicted felon who could not legally own a firearm.

Dennis Butler, 37, has been identified as the now deceased gunman. He was known to law enforcement and has been convicted of multiple felonies.

“As a young police officer, I was a rookie and had about a year on, one of the most knocked-down dragged out fights was with Mr. Butler and he had a firearm on him at that time in 2006,” Charleston Police Chief Tyke Hunt told MetroNews on Thursday.

Butler was shot and killed after firing at a group of people attending a birthday/graduation party at an apartment complex in West Virginia’s capital on Wednesday night. The gunman was then reportedly shot and killed by a woman who was licensed to carry.

The timele on the incident is changing 🙌

"So from the grandmother’s house" to the site of truck crash "to the school, into the school, he was not confronted by anybody," Escalon said.

Escalon added that the gunman fired at two witnesses at a funeral home, but the official couldn’t immediately explain how the gunman wasn’t stopped in the 12 minutes between the crash and campus entry.

"We got a crash and a man with a gun, and then you have responding officers. That's what it is, if that's 12 minutes," he said. “At the end of the day, our job is to report the facts and have those answers. We’re not there yet.”

It appears that the door the gunman used to enter the school was unlocked, Escalon said Thursday

Former Attorney General Bill Barr Says Clinton Guilty Of ‘Sedition’

Former United States Attorney General Bill Barr has given a stark warning to former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over her “seditious” conspiracy against former President Donald Trump.

“I thought we were heading into a constitutional crisis. I think whatever you think of Trump, the fact is that the whole Russiagate thing was a grave injustice. It appears to be a dirty political trick that was used first to hobble him and then potentially to drive him from office,” he said on Glenn Beck’s Blaze TV podcast.

“I believe it is seditious,” he said, but he warned that those charges would be tough to prove in a court.

“It was a gross injustice, and it hurt the United States in many ways, including what we’re seeing in Ukraine these days. It distorted our foreign policy, and so forth,” the former attorney general said.

And btw, Vietnam sniper Carlos Hathcock carried a Remington 700 to do his job. The 700 is the most popular sporting rifle ever made. But since Hathcock used one to kill Viet Cong, that makes it a "weapon of war" just like the AR-15.

Biden’s Approval Slump Hits a Dreary New Milestone

May 27, 2022 at 9:02 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 23 Comments

Jonathan Bernstein:
“The bad news for President Joe Biden is that his popularity has fallen, this past week, into dead last place.
Of the 13 presidents during the polling era, none has been in worse shape at this point in his first term, almost 500 days into a presidency, than Biden’s 40.5% approval rating…
It’s not quite Biden’s own low point — he briefly dipped a bit lower in late February — but it’s close.

“Is there any good news for the president?
Sort of.
His 40.5% is not a historic low for first-term presidents.
Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Lyndon Johnson and Harry Truman all had lower lows.

Clinton, Reagan and Truman
hit bottom
before being re-elected,
with the latter two dipping well below 40% closer to their elections than Biden is to his.

Indeed, there’s no relationship between approval ratings at the 500-day mark and re-election.”

It doesn't look like stagflation

The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge rose 4.9% in April from a year ago, a still-elevated level that nonetheless indicated that price pressures could be easing a bit, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

That increase in the core personal consumption expenditures price index was in line with expectations and reflected a slowing pace from the 5.2% reported in March. The number excludes volatile food and energy prices that have been a major contributor to inflation running around a 40-year peak.
