You make a lot of assumptions that do not fall in line with polling and other realities. For instance, the idea that the former President Trump will play a bigger role than Biden in the midterms and that somehow that will play to the Democrat's favor.
I think desperate times call for desperate measures. Trying to make the midterms about Abortion is desperate in my humble opinion. Going over the top with a bill that almost nobody supports will more likely than not backfire. Something that even Goddard appears to understand.
Sort of like pulling your goalie in hockey. It might help you score that tying goal, but it is way more common for the opposing team to score the empty netter and increase their margin.
This botchup could backfire when some vulnerable Democratic Senator has to explain why he believes that abortions should be legal without restrictions, that all OB doctors have to perform them, and that taxpayer money must be used. These are extreme positions that are unpopular - even if Roe (on the surface) is popular.
I am not sure what "botchup" you are expecting the GOP to make. They will continue to campaign on the economy, on inflation, on supply chain problems, on crime, on the border, and on how much of a disaster this President and Democratic Congress have been and just exactly how much damage they have caused in less than two years.

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) says that while Americans face a worsening baby formula shortage, “They are sending pallets–pallets! of baby formula to the border.”
Who is “they?” Well, the Biden administration, of course.

Hoping to change the country’s demographics (a stated goal of Democrats and the media), Biden is flooding the country with illegal immigrants, a record number of them, even as he spends $40 billion to protect Ukraine’s border. But now, according to this congresswoman, people who have no business being in our country are receiving the baby formula countless American mothers can’t find for their own babies.
On a social media post, Cammack said she received photographic evidence of the border deliveries from a border patrol agent.
Illegal immigrants are “receiving pallets and more pallets of baby formula at the border,” she said. “This [photo of baby formula] was taken at Ursula processing facility [in Texas], where thousands are being housed and processed and then released into the United States.”
The photo, she says, is the full shelves of baby formula shipped to the border for illegal aliens — you know, the people breaking into our country at the invitation of the Biden administration.
She also posted the photo on her verified Twitter account:
In a Facebook video, Cammack said this border patrol agent told her, “Kat, you would not believe the shipment [of baby formula] I just brought in.” Cammack added that this guy “has been a border patrol agent for 30 years, and he has never seen anything quite like this. He is a grandfather, and he is saying that his own children can’t get baby formula for his grandkids.”
She adds, “He, as a border patrol agent, just took in pallets, pallets of baby formula for all of the illegals that are crossing into the United States.”
If this is the case, no one, including this congresswoman, is saying that the babies of illegals should not get this formula. But why are they first in line? Good heavens, illegal immigrants in Texas are getting baby formula when we know American citizens and legal immigrants in Texas are “desperate” to find formula.
What’s more, these illegals should not even be in the country, and by extension, they and their babies should not be our responsibility. These folks should be in Mexico using Mexico’s resources, not in America illegally draining our resources, especially a resource as vital as baby formula.
If these illegals didn’t stroll into our country illegally, something Biden is openly encouraging and allowing, we wouldn’t have this problem.
The congresswoman also makes a good point. Using secret flights, the Biden administration will release most of these illegals into the American interior, which will only stress our baby formula resources all the more … and our housing resources … and our law enforcement resources.

Russian troops seek to block Kyiv’s forces
Ukrainian ministry officials said Thursday that Russian troops were trying to block Kyiv’s forces from advancing as far as the Ukrainian-Russian border in the northeastern Kharkiv region.
“In the direction of Kharkiv, Russian army units are regrouping and trying to prevent the further advance of our troops in the direction of the state border of Ukraine,” defense ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said in his regular media briefing.
“To this end, the occupiers launch unceasing artillery attacks on our troop units in order to inflict human losses, as well as to damage weapons and military equipment,” Motuzyanyk added.
He did not clarify how close Ukrainian forces were to the border.
According to the defense ministry briefing, Moscow’s troops were opening fire “along the entire line of confrontation” in Ukraine’s east, and attempting to penetrate Ukrainian defenses.
Also on Thursday, the Ukrainian military’s General Staff said in its daily operational statement that Russian forces continued their attempts to storm several cities in Ukraine’s industrial heartland of Donbas that day, but had no success.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said the alliance would welcome Finland and Sweden with open arms.

Zelenskyy says he is ready for talks with Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he is ready to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that “we must find an agreement,” but with no ultimatum as a condition.
Zelenskyy told Italian RAI state TV in an interview scheduled to be broadcast on Thursday night that Ukraine will never recognise Crimea as part of Russia.
“Crimea has always had its autonomy, it has its parliament, but on the inside of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said in excerpts of the interview that RAI released earlier on Thursday.

After baking the state of Texas, an early-season heat wave is poised to shatter temperature records across the central and Northeastern sections of the United States in the next few days.
Unusually hot weather, with temperatures expected to top 100 degrees Fahrenheit throughout a broad stretch of the country, will affect millions of Americans from Texas to Maine and serve as yet another wake-up call as to the mounting evidence of climate change.
"The heat wave will produce temperatures that are 15-25 degrees above average. In most cases, temperatures this high have not been experienced since September or August last year," AccuWeather said on its website.
On Saturday, heat records were toppled in the Texas cities Del Rio, San Angelo and Abilene, with the thermometer registering 112 degrees in some locations. At the weekend, San Antonio notched its earliest consecutive 100-degree days on record, the Weather Channel reported. The oppressive heat has been exacerbated by stifling humidity
While the singular cause of individual heat waves can be difficult to attribute to climate change, their growing frequency has been linked to the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
"Unusually hot days and multi-day heat waves are a natural part of day-to-day variation in weather. As the Earth's climate warms, however, hotter-than-usual days and nights are becoming more common and heat waves are expected to become more frequent and intense," the Environmental Protection Agency says on its website.
What is also clear is that as average temperatures continue to rise thanks to climate change, they intensify each individual event.
"Every heat wave in the world is now made stronger and more likely to happen because of human-caused climate change," Friederike Otto, a climate scientist at Imperial College of London's Grantham Institute, told the AFP.
A study published last year's record-breaking heat wave in the Pacific Northwest, for instance, concluded that it was "virtually impossible" that it would have occurred without human-caused climate change.
The arrival of May temperatures in the U.S. normally not registered until late June or early July is analogous to the early scorching heat wave that has gripped parts of Pakistan and India, which experienced its hottest March on record and the hottest April in 122 years.

What is Roe v Wade?
Roe v Wade was the landmark case of a Texan woman, Norma McCorvey, who was referred to by the legal pseudonym of Jane Roe to protect her privacy.
In 1969 she became pregnant with her third child and was unable to get an abortion because the state only allowed them if the mother's life was in danger.
Her lawyers brought a case against the local district attorney Henry Wade to the US Federal Court, claiming Texan abortion laws were unconstitutional.
The District Court for the Northern District of Texas ruled in her favour, but Mr Wade appealed against the decision at the Supreme Court.
After hearing the arguments, in 1973 the court revealed seven of its nine justices had voted in favour of Ms Roe.
This meant a change to the constitution and that regardless of any state laws banning abortion, every woman in the US has the right to one within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy - and some rights to one beyond that.
Without the protection of the 1973 ruling, abortion laws would be decided at state level.
What does the leaked Supreme Court document show?
The Supreme Court is currently presiding over the case Dobbs V Jackson Women's Health Organization, which argues the 2018 Mississippi state ban on abortions after 15 weeks is unconstitutional.
The case cites both Roe v Wade and another key piece of US-wide abortion legislation - Planned Parenthood v Casey from 1992.
That case saw five criteria of Pennsylvania's Abortion Control Act (1982) overturned by the Supreme Court.
Justices ruled that the required waiting period, the need to inform the woman's spouse, and parental consent for minors were "undue burdens" on women seeking abortions up to 24 weeks.
The leaked 'draft opinion' written by Justice Alito reads: "Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences.
"And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have inflamed debate and deepened division."
How does the US Supreme Court work and could it mean the draft becomes law?
The draft, now confirmed as authentic by Chief Justice Roberts, was written in February, with a final decision on Dobbs v Jackson not due until early July.
Under the US system, the Supreme Court is made up of nine Supreme Court justices, who hear fewer than 1% of the cases it is sent every year.
The justices are appointed by presidents and can serve until they die, meaning the political leanings of the court can be different to the White House.
Currently there are six justices appointed by Republican presidents and three by Democrats.
During Donald Trump's presidency, he appointed three new Republican justices, notably replacing Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of women's rights, with Amy Coney Barrett - a staunchly Conservative Catholic.

Mara Clarke, the founder of Abortion Support Network (ASN), has been campaigning to protect women's abortion rights for more than 20 years.
She tells Sky News: "Despite the fact that the majority of people in the US claim to be pro-choice, the opposition to abortion is baked into the political framework.
"Things were hard when I started doing this work 20 years ago, but we all knew the shift in the Supreme Court would be the death knell."
After hearing oral arguments on both sides, the nine justices deliberate and vote, before one on the winning side is appointed to draft an "opinion" that sums up their ruling.
This can be edited several times before the opinion is published and becomes the "opinion of the court" and therefore constitutional law.
What would it mean for American women?
This week's leak has triggered mass protests outside the Supreme Court and across the US.
Democrats such as Hillary Clinton have said overturning Roe v Wade would "kill and subjugate women" and branded it an "utter disgrace".
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a joint statement it would be the "greatest restriction of rights in the past 50 years", an "abomination" and "one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history".
Ms Clarke, whose organisation helps fund women who need to get abortions abroad, stresses that 90% of US counties do not have a single abortion provider, some doctors cover several states by themselves and others conscientiously object.
"For many years already low-income and marginalised people have depended on abortion funds to access them," she says.
And despite a change in World Health Organisation (WHO) advice that endorses take-at-home abortion pills as the safest way to end a pregnancy up to 12 weeks, women all over the world still resort to dangerous and deadly last resorts.
"People are still Googling 'can I do this to have an abortion?'," Ms Clarke adds.
"When I started working on this in the UK before there was widespread knowledge about abortion pills, one mother tried to crash her car - but not die - to induce an abortion.
"Another had never done drugs in her life but thought if she tried heroin the shock to her system would work."
But she says the US network of around 90 groups and independent abortion providers will continue helping women access abortions privately.
"There would be extreme chaos if this happens, but those groups will continue funding people's abortions. They pay for procedures, have drivers, pay for hotel rooms, put people up in their own homes.
"For those who are just waking up to this problem, welcome, we are tired, and we could use some help."
She also says that abortion pills, which have been legalised in the UK after being used as an emergency measure during the pandemic, are going to "save thousands of lives" across the US should the legal changes go through.
"But this also isn't just a US problem - it's a global problem," she adds.
"UK abortion laws are by no means perfect - people in Scotland still have to travel to England if they are more than 18 weeks pregnant.
"It's really easy to point fingers and laugh at backwards Americans, but I would urge people to look at themselves and their neighbours too."
