If you are curious... the last CNN poll taken was less than a week ago and the GOP lead by only one point.  I am sure they took the second one to see what sort of "impact" the USSC leak might have on all of this. I am betting they were surprised that it didn't exactly "help" the Democrats.

At the end of the day, this is one of those things where very few people are looking at "abortion" as the reason to vote for someone. More to the point, when the dust settles people will realize that they probably think it's a good idea that States can make their own determinations and that the courts declaring that abortion on demand is a constitutional right was not a good thing.

Like it or not, the midterms will be a referendum on how Biden and the rest of the Democrats have led the Country since they took over the White House and both chambers of congress. Between inflation, DJIA crash, crime, Covid, and foreign policy disasters there isn't much to point to for Democrats. They have failed to get the job done on any major issues and have not even passed their own agenda.

We are six months away from the election... it will be hard to change the dynamics and no amount of pearl clutching over the suggested Roe opinion will change that.

The share of registered voters who say they are extremely or very enthusiastic about voting this fall rose 6 points between the first survey and the second, but that increase is about even across party lines. Among Democrats, 43% now say they are extremely or very enthusiastic, up 7 points. Among Republicans, it’s 56%, up 9 points. And voters who say overturning Roe would make them “happy” are nearly twice as enthusiastic about voting this fall as those who say such a ruling would leave them “angry” (38% extremely enthusiastic among those happy, 20% among those angry).

Bill Maher pushes back at pro-choice alarmists: 'We're not going back to 1973' if Roe v Wade is overturned

Maher casts doubt that reversing Roe v Wade would affect other rights like interracial, same-sex marriage

"Real Time" host Bill Maher kicked off his panel discussion about the abortion debate Friday by sharing the surprising things he learned following the leaked Supreme Court majority opinion draft on Roe v. Wade.

"I learned things this week… that are pretty basic things that I did not know about abortion. Like in Europe, the modern countries of Europe are way more restrictive than we are or what they're even proposing!" Maher exclaimed. "If you are pro-choice, you would like it a lot less in Germany, and Italy, and France, and Spain, and Switzerland. Did you know that? I didn't know that."

"I learned most people who are pro-life are women. I did not know that. Most abortions are from… mothers, people who have a kid… And I thought this was interesting, most abortions now — even when you go to a clinic are done with the pill. The pill. And pills are easy to get in America," Maher continued. "So, you know, for the people who say we're going back to 1973, we're not. That's just factually inaccurate."

Anti-abortion legislation can have unintended medical consequences that extend beyond women seeking to terminate a pregnancy — particularly in the management of a miscarriage, experts say.

On Monday, a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion published by Politico revealed that the high court intends to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that guarantees abortion access.

Up to one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, according to some estimates, a loss that can be traumatic and dangerous for women. The risk is even higher after age 40. But the medical care a woman needs when she’s had a miscarriage can mirror how an abortion is performed, experts say.

“Medically, miscarriage and abortions are treated in very similar way,” said Dr. Stephanie Mischell, a family medicine physician in Texas and fellow with Physicians for Reproductive Health.

Benny Johnson (born May 27, 1987) is an American political columnist, currently serving as chief creative officer at conservative organization Turning Point USA.[1] Johnson first rose to prominence as a staff writer at BuzzFeed, until it was revealed that many of his published articles were plagiarized and he was fired.[2][3]

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

That means that laws that restrict abortion or that outlaw certain medications or procedures used in abortion, also have the potential to limit treatment for miscarriage.

“There is this false assumption that abortions can be regulated and restricted and criminalized without impacting women’s health care more broadly,” said Yvonne Lindgren, an associate professor of law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, who specializes in reproductive rights.

Inga, 62, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, still feels the trauma of her miscarriage from nearly 30 years ago. (She requested her last name not be used due to the stigma around miscarriage.)

She was 13 weeks pregnant with her third child.

Extremely heavy bleeding led to a drop in her blood pressure, and her husband rushed her to the emergency room of a Catholic hospital in the state.

“I was crashing,” Inga said. “I thought, ‘This could kill me.’”

At the hospital, doctors confirmed she was having a miscarriage. After staunching the bleeding, an obstetrician wanted to perform a procedure called a dilation and curettage — commonly referred to as a D&C — to remove the tissue from the uterus. Not doing so could lead to sepsis or other serious complications, sometimes within hours.

But the hospital, which was subject to religious doctrine, wouldn’t allow it due to strict anti-abortion policies. That’s because a D&C is also the procedure used during a surgical abortion.

Inga went home for three days. During that time, her body attempted to pass the tissue that remained in her uterus. She recalls the pain as constant and unbearable.

Finally, she got the green light to get the procedure, but only if she would first undergo an ultrasound to make sure there was no heartbeat.

Stories of hospitals denying miscarriage care for religious reasons may foreshadow how women’s reproductive health care could be unintentionally impacted by anti-abortion legislation at the state and federal level, Lindgren said.

“In these cases, doctors were faced with ethics committee investigations,” she said, referring to cases at hospitals that follow religious mandates. “Now we’re taking this to a whole new level with risk of criminalization.”

A miscarriage is considered to be a pregnancy loss that occurs before 20 weeks of pregnancy, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A loss that occurs at 20 weeks or later is referred to as stillbirth.

“In a nearly hour-and-a-half speech at a political rally in Pennsylvania on Friday night, former president Donald Trump made only a passing reference to the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn a landmark ruling establishing the constitutional right to abortion across the country,”
the Washington Post reports.

“Trump’s decision not to opine on the news that dominated headlines this week followed days of Republican reticence to engage on the issue,
directing their ire at the leak itself rather than celebrate the draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, the pivotal 1973 ruling that legalized abortion.”

Roe v Wade is based upon.

The woman who brought the case in 1970 under the pseudonym Jane Roe was Norma McCorvey, who had been living in Dallas County, Texas. It is true that in seeking an abortion in Texas she had initially claimed to have been gang raped and then, in a 1987 interview, McCorvey said that she had lied about the rape.

She later wished she never had gotten the abortion and became a pro-life advocate

New Poll Reveals Warning Signs for GOP on Abortion

But when voters were asked to choose instead between a “pro-choice Democrat”

Newsweek
Putin Losing Ukraine Amid Reports of Russians Sabotaging Own Tanks
Katherine Fung - Yesterday 3:02 PM
The war in Ukraine is unfolding in ways Russian President Vladimir Putin may have not anticipated—not only with the growing resistance of the Ukrainian people but now also with reports that his troops are sabotaging Russian equipment.

New reports from Britian's intelligence officials say that Russian soldiers have sabotaged their own equipment and shot down one of their own aircraft.

On Friday, the Armed Forces of Ukraine said it had reclaimed five areas in the Kharkiv region—Oleksandrivka, Fedorivka, Ukrainka, Shestakovo, and Peremoha—in addition to part of the Cherkaski Tyshky village.

A day earlier, Jeremy Fleming, who heads Britain's GCHQ, the U.K.'s intelligence, cyber, and security agency, said that Russian soldiers sabotaged their equipment and shot down one of their aircraft as part of their refusals to take orders from the Kremlin.

Fleming told the Washington Post that Putin had not calculated either of these outcomes when he decided to invade Ukraine more than two months ago.

"It's clear he misjudged the resistance of the Ukrainian people," he said.
"He underestimated the strength of the coalition his actions would galvanize.
He underplayed the economic consequences of the sanctions regime.
He overestimated the abilities of his military to secure a rapid victory."

With additional weaponry from the West, Ukraine went on the offensive Friday as soldiers attempted to drive Russian forces back in the northeastern part of the country. The U.S. alone has sent $3.4 billion worth of military equipment to Ukraine.

"There are fierce battles going on, as well as the transition from defensive operations to offensive actions in the Kharkiv and Izium areas," Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine's commander in chief, told U.S. General Mark Milley on Thursday.

Putin is expected to ramp up the assaults on Ukraine this weekend as he looks for a path to declare a win on Monday when Russia celebrates Victory Day, the country's annual holiday marking the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany.

Some have speculated that the Russian president may formally declare war on the holiday. Thus far, Putin has refrained from calling it a "war" and rather insisted that his troops are carrying out a "special military operation."

President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders are scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelensky virtually ahead of Victory Day in a show of unity and to help bolster Ukraine's position at the negotiating table.

"While [Putin] expected to be marching through the streets of Kyiv, that certainly is not going to happen," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday.

She added that because Putin has not taken over in Ukraine as planned, Ukraine has "already won in many ways."

Newsweek reached out to the Russian government for comment.

AND GOT CRICKETS.

New poll reveals warning signs for GOP on abortion ahead of midterms
Andrew Romano
Andrew Romano·West Coast Correspondent
Fri, May 6, 2022, 4:52 PM
Many right-wing politicians and pundits have spent the week rejoicing over Monday's momentous report that five conservative Supreme Court justices appear poise
to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that established a constitutional right to abortion almost half a century ago.

Yet a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll, one of the first to be conducted entirely after the leak of Justice Samuel Alito’s controversial draft opinion, suggests that Republicans risk overplaying their hand on abortion ahead of the 2022 midterms — and that Democrats could benefit if the hot-button issue is on the ballot.

The survey of 1,577 U.S. adults, which was conducted from May 3 to May 6, found that registered voters initially preferred a generic Democrat (44%) over a generic Republican (39%) by 5 percentage points when asked how they would vote in their district if the congressional election were being held today.

The GOP is destroying itself from Trump.

Dave McCormick, who privately lobbied hard to win former President Trump’s blessing, is going after Trump for backing Dr. Oz in the country's hottest current race — the Pennsylvania GOP race for U.S. Senate.

Why it matters: Trump slammed McCormick Friday night at a rally in Pennsylvania. Now McCormick is punching back in an ad you're seeing first on Axios — ridiculing the endorsement of Oz.

McCormick's campaign tells Axios the ad will begin airing on TV on Monday as the main ad for the week — the last week before the primary on May 17.

The ad, called "Wrong Endorsement in Pennsylvania," includes a clip of Fox News' Laura Ingraham saying on her show: "It was a mistake to endorse Oz."

The big picture: Trump attacked McCormick for the first time Friday, at a rainy, muddy rally last night outside Pittsburgh.

The former President said that as CEO of Bridgewater, the world's largest hedge fund, McCormick "managed money for communist China.”Trump asserted McCormick is the "candidate of special interests and globalists and the Washington establishment ... ripping off the United States with bad trade deals and open borders," AP writes.

Trump spent more time criticizing McCormick than he did praising Oz, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

McCormick "may be a nice guy, but he’s not MAGA," Trump said. The crowd booed when a warm-up speaker mentioned Oz.

Context: McCormick wanted Trump's backing badly, turning to his wife, Dina Powell, a former Trump official, and Trump-friendly advisers like Hope Hicks to plead his case. They mostly pushed Trump to remain neutral in the race, but he stiffed McCormick in a very public way.

A poll released this week by Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., showed a statistical tie — Oz 18% and McCormick 16% among Republicans, with conservative activist Kathy Barnette at 12%.McCormick is backed by Mike Pompeo, Trump's former Secretary of State.

Reality check: The ad calls Oz "PRO-ABORTION." Oz formerly spoke in favor of abortion rights, but now says he is "100% Pro-Life."

That Yahoo poll apparently doesn't make the cut for Real Clear Politics who will only take certain polls that they determine to be historically accurate.

Time will tell if polling that shows it as an advantage for the GOP or an advantage for the Democrats ends up correct... but my best guess is that it will turn out to be a wash. It might motivate a few more people on both sides.

I believe it might be a mistake for Democrats to scream and holler about how they will codify Roe v Wade into law. That might help them to some degree, but it is likely scaring the bejesus out the pro-lifers who would seemingly have finally won a long battle only to have it snatched from them.

At the end of the day, the reality is that this is STILL a referendum on how lousy the Democrats are doing basically attempting to run the country.

Notice that the only method the left ever uses to try and convince folks of their side of the argument is to declare that the issue is already settled, wildly popular, etc.

They do it all the time with virtually everything, and they use the media to amplify their claims

"Well the polling clearly shows that Roe is wildly popular so the GOP had better accept the fact that this issue is politically deadly for them."

Same with global warming/climate change.

"The science is settled."

Except it's not and never is.

And then they use hyperbolic lies to promote their agenda...

"This will lead to the GOP declaring gay & inter-racial marriage illegal!"

Except that it won't. But it seems to work wonders on convincing imbeciles like the alky.

Playbook:
“The war in Ukraine has seen the U.S. share unprecedented levels of intelligence with Kyiv. And Western governments have stepped up preemptive public disclosures of intelligence to undermine Russian messaging.

“But this week, the White House has started to worry that the intel is getting too public.”

Tom Friedman reports that Biden said “in the strongest and most colorful language that this kind of loose talk is reckless and has got to stop immediately — before we end up in an unintended war with Russia.

“The staggering takeaway from these leaks is that they suggest we are no longer in an indirect war with Russia but rather edging toward a direct war
— and no one has prepared the American people or Congress for that.”

How lousy the Democrats are doing...

Is it lousy to get Supreme Court nominees accepted by them lying about settled law?

Ok. So there it is. The singular issue that will determine the outcome of the mid-terms.

Your hill to die on.

Democrats are working hard to underline for voters
which party is dismantling abortion protections
and which one is defending them,
hoping that Republicans will
pay a price at the polls.

Right.

With so many other election years issues that affect everyone, as in ALL OF US, your advice is to focus on an issue that affects a sliver of the electorate.

I like it.

Go with that pederast.

Oh, and go after those conservative justices especially HARD next Saturday, pal. Get violent. Burn shit. Hurt people. Kill a few. Make the Junkie Floyd riots seem small by comparison.

Show us 'normals' just how fucking insane you assholes really are.

The RNC thanks you in advance for the advertising copy.

Huh.

I said this the other day when the news first came out and the alky instantly accused me of Rootin' for Putin.

So Freidman is now an unabashed Putin supporter.

Interesting. I suppose that sort of bookends his admiration of the Chinese dictatorship he's on the record as advocating that the US adopt.

You were saying, pederast?

CNN poll: The Supreme Court's draft opinion on Roe v. Wade hasn't shaken the midterm landscape

(CNN)Americans remain broadly opposed to overturning the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, following the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion that would strike down the landmark ruling.

Sixty-six percent say Roe v. Wade should not be completely struck down, and 59% would support Congress passing legislation to establish a nationwide right to abortion, including 81% of Democrats, 65% of independents and 30% of Republicans, the survey finds.

But comparing the results of the new poll to one conducted immediately before the revelation of the draft opinion, the impact on the political landscape heading into the 2022 midterms appears fairly muted.

The share of registered voters who say they are extremely or very enthusiastic about voting this fall rose 6 points between the first survey and the second, but that increase is about even across party lines. Among Democrats, 43% now say they are extremely or very enthusiastic, up 7 points. Among Republicans, it's 56%, up 9 points. And voters who say overturning Roe would make them "happy" are nearly twice as enthusiastic about voting this fall as those who say such a ruling would leave them "angry" (38% extremely enthusiastic among those happy, 20% among those angry).

If that is what you believe, Reverend... I won't change your mind. Not even by going back to the quotes provided by each of them stating (almost using the same words) that precedent is important, but never the "only" consideration.

Every last one of them accepted that Roe has been the law since 1973 and every single one of them still left open the possibility that it could be readdressed. There will never be anything that is considered "settled" law when it comes to rulings.

For years it was "settled law" that same sex marriage was illegal.
For years it was "settled law" that women could not vote.
For years segregation was "settled law".

Much of what we think of as previously settled law (but poorly settled) was changed via constitutional amendment or sweeping Federal legislation. We had some exceptions (Abortion, same sex marriage, and such that were only ruled upon by the courts and never codified). On the flip side, Dred Scott, Brown and others were followed with sweeping legislation.

If you win by the courts you lose by the courts. If the pro-life position was as popular as you seem to believe, then it would have been codified into law a long time ago. The fact that it hasn't... well that should tell you something (if you were willing to listen).

Well Reverend...

That Yahoo poll apparently doesn't make the cut for Real Clear Politics who will only take certain polls that they determine to be historically accurate.

BWAAAAAAPAAAAAA!!!!!! You are getting more lame by the day, Lil Schitty......sad how pathetic you and your lies have become!@!!!!!!!!

Cancel culture activists have come for Dr. Seuss, who they deem a racist
despite the fact that his books were undoubtedly woke for their time. It shouldn't be dismissed as yet another silly instance of fringe activists overreacting. It's part of a coordinated campaign to indoctrinate children to take on progressive causes.
After complaints from teachers and academics, Dr. Seuss Enterprises decided to cease publishing six books, including And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street and Scrambled Eggs Super!, accused of having racist and insensitive imagery.

The move was supposedly long in the works, but it comes as Virginia's Loudoun County Public Schools issued guidance to promote "inclusive and diverse" books rather than to "simply celebrate Dr. Seuss." Read Across America Day coincides with Dr. Seuss'
"Research in recent years has revealed strong racial undertones in many books written/illustrated by Dr. Seuss," the school district said in a statement.
