Two surverys really sock it to the Democrats...

Consumer Sentiment survey now puts our consumer confidence at the lowest levels in over a decade. 

Consumer sentiment dropped by 9.4% between April and May, according to preliminary survey data released by the University of Michigan on Friday. That reversed the short-lived gain seen in April when sentiment was helped by a moderation in gas prices, which had been rising in response to the war in Ukraine. At 59.1, the consumer sentiment index fell to its lowest level since 2011.

New NBC poll regarding "abortions rights" sees limited impact on the midterms 

It’s the fourth straight NBC News poll with the wrong-track number higher than 70 percent, and the fifth time in the poll’s 34-year history when the wrong-track number hit 75 percent or higher. The other times were in 2008 (during the Great Recession) and 2013 (during a government shutdown).

The NBC News poll also finds 39 percent of Americans approving of President Biden’s job as president, versus 56 percent who say they disapprove. While Biden’s approval rating is essentially unchanged from March’s poll — when it was at 40 percent — the new number represents the lowest mark of his presidency.

“It is a flashing red light when you see a number like this,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, who conducted this survey with Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates. “Americans are telling us this is as bad as 2008,” McInturff added.

Now the NBC poll suggests that support for abortion is high and that it "moved up" on the list of important issue, but it still falls well below inflation and the economy and is about even with election integrity and voter rights. Basically Ukraine fell and abortion took its place as the flavor of the month. However, both Parties an increase in their voter enthusiasm since last month, so it is hard to argue that it was a one sided deal for Democrats or even something that has a strong effect.

As you can see, the control of congress situation has not changed much since the beginning of the year. In fact the GOP has held firm at 46% in every poll, while the Democrats started the year at 47% and is now at 46%.  Whatever the Democrats were hoping for here from the Roe draft memo, I doubt this is what they expected. 

To be clear here folks. These two polls show that the public continues to sour on what is happening in the country and right now the Democrats control the White House and both chambers of Congress. They take the blame. Moreover, the economic issues are at the top of the food chain in terms of what the voters care about. Abortion gets everyone's motor going for a while, but can that last through November? Perhaps whoever leaked this, did so to make sure that the public had a good six months to digest it, rather than wait till late summer to hear the opinion. 

Either way, if it is making almost no impact on the general consensus today, then it is unlikely to change between now and November.
