Yep... everything is about race, huh? Were there a disproportionate amount of "black" officers injured during the riots, or what is the point?
The one thing I noticed is how upset the left is with FOX News for putting Tucker Carlson up against the committee hearings. I guess FOX let him go for a full hour without commercial interruptions. We'll have to wait for the ratings, but I suspect that Carlson had a pretty big night.
Why does the left care so much about something they don't watch? Well this is as it always is. The left wants control, and they lose control when people have the choice of watching something different from what the left wants everyone to watch.
I watched about 2 minutes of the hearings as I was looking for something else to watch. It was Thompson talking about the capitol police officers as if they are WWII heroes who stood up to the Nazi's. Not that I don't appreciate police officers, but you have to wonder about the all of the other officers who the left wants to defund, send to jail, and basically declare them racists. They probably wonder about the double standard.
But at the end of the day... where was all the new revelations? Already supporters of the hearings are talking about the rest of the hearings almost more than they are talking about this hearing. That cannot be a good thing if they were looking for a big bang tonight. But then again, what facts are they "really" working with?
As Scott Adams suggested: "Is it my imagination or is the narrative of Trump instigating violence completely disconnected from the evidence being shown? It's a total confirmation bias prosecution."

The video of depositions interspersed throughout was also extraordinarily effective. It showed Trump loyalists — many of whom claim to remain close to the former president to this day — turning against Trump himself when under oath.
The immediate effect will be to isolate Trump from his advisors — perhaps even his own daughter, who testified under oath that she believed her father lost the election.
There were also bombshells: Cheney pledged to provide proof that Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) and “multiple other Republican congressmen” sought pardons from Trump for their actions after January 6. That’s an extraordinary charge.
And another: The Proud Boys were positioning to seize the Capitol while Trump was still speaking at the rally.
And another: A new video showed a rioter reading a Trump tweet to the mob which incited the chant: “Hang Mike Pence!”
And one more: The Department of Justice is working with “cooperating witnesses,” confirming a criminal investigation is underway.
But tonight was just a preview. The coming hearings will attempt to detail that:
Trump knew he lost the election but actively pushed the Big Lie anyway.Trump tried to replace Attorney General Bill Barr to force the Department of Justice to keep him in officeTrump pressured Vice President Mike Pence to ignore his constitutional responsibility in certifying the electoral vote.Trump pressured state election officials to overturn the election results.
We’ll see how the remaining hearings play out, but it’s already clear that there will be enormous pressure on Attorney General Merrick Garland as a result.
The committee is laying out what amounts to a criminal case against Trump.
The Proud Boys are crypofascists
The Proud Boys are cryptofascits.
British documentary filmmaker Nick Quested, who was following the Proud Boys right-wing extremist group, also described what he saw on Jan. 6, saying the crowd turned "from protesters, to rioters, to insurrectionists."
"I was surprised by the size of the group, the anger and the profanity," he testified.Quested also described being "confused" that "a couple of hundred of Proud Boys were marching toward the Capitol" before Trump’s speech."I was confused to an extent why we were walking away from the president's speech because that's what I felt we were there to cover," Quested said.
The big picture: The testimony from two eyewitnesses set the backdrop for the committee's argument that the insurrection "was a result of a coordinated, multi-step effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election and stop the transfer of power from Donald Trump to Joe Biden," Axios' Alayna Treene reports.
The Jan. 6 committee chairs, Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), tied Trump to the events of that violent day.
"President Trump summoned the mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack," Cheney said."Jan. 6 was the culmination of an attempted coup," Thompson said
You really are a cowardly asshole.
You didn't watch it
The video was very disappointing.
It showed hundreds of them marching in the Capitol building hallway
The January 6 committee shared never-before-seen footage of the Capitol attack, which showed Trump supporters attacking police officers before storming the building.
In one clip, an insurrectionist with a bullhorn read aloud Trump’s tweet crticizing his vice-president, Mike Pence, for not attempting to block the certification of the 2020 election results. The next clip showed a mob chanting “Hang Mike Pence!”
The alarming footage was difficult to watch for all of those who were at the Capitol on January 6, including lawmakers.
“Watching this brings back a lot of memories and emotions I haven’t experienced in a while,” Democratic congressman Brendan Boyle said on Twitter.
Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the Jan. 6 committee, invoked the horrors inflicted on Black people during slavery and by the Ku Klux Klan in his opening remarks.
Thompson, who hails from Bolton, Miss., a town between Jackson and Vicksburg, Miss., said he’s from a part of the country “where people justify the actions of slavery, the Ku Klux Klan and lynching.”
“I’m reminded of that dark history as I hear voices today try and justify the actions of the insurrectionists on January 6th, 2021,” Thompson said.
Thompson said he hoped the American public will, over the next few weeks, get to know him and the other members of the committee and understand that they represent a “diversity of communities from all over the United States, rural areas and cities.”
“All of us have one thing in common: We swore the same oath, that same oath that all members of Congress,” Thompson said. “We swore an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
Thompson noted that throughout its history, the United States has fought foreign enemies to preserve democracy. But Jan. 6, 2021, marked a different chapter. Capitol Police officers, he said, had to defend the U.S. Capitol from domestic enemies.
“Many came out of that day bloodied and broken,” Thompson said. “They still bear those wounds visible and invisible. They did their duty. They repelled the mob and ended the occupation of the Capitol. They defended the Constitution against domestic enemies so that Congress could return … and count your votes to ensure the transfer of power.”

Trump's inner circle admits to the Jan. 6 committee: He lost the election, but wanted to overturn it
The panel aired never-before-seen footage of the deadly insurrection and statements from people in the mob saying they came to D.C. at Trump's urging.
WASHINGTON — Ally after ally of former President Donald Trump — his eldest daughter, his former attorney general, a former senior campaign aide — admitted to congressional investigators that his claims that the 2020 election were stolen from him were false.
That testimony were just some the revelations during the first day of the Jan. 6 committee hearings, interspersed with shocking, never-before-seen video of the deadly attack and powerful statements from a Capitol Police officer who battled rioters.
“I made it clear I did not agree with the idea of saying the election was stolen and putting out this stuff which I told the president was bullshit,” former Attorney General Bill Barr testified.
The panel says it is building a case that Trump was responsible for the insurrection. "He personally asked us to come to D.C. that day," one person in the mob said in a video played at the end of the hearing, part of a montage of several others who said they were there at the former president's behest.
Jan. 6 Committee Outlines Anatomy of Trump-led ‘Attempted Coup,’ Reveals 45th President Said Supporters’ Calls for Pence’s Hanging May Be the ‘Right Idea’
The Committee’s Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) opened his remarks by invoking his background as a Democratic congressman from Mississippi, a part of the country where he noted many justified slavery, the Ku Klux Klan and lynching.
“I hear voices today try and justify the actions of the insurrectionists on Jan. 6, 2021,” Thompson said.
Referring to the committee’s co-chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as a patriot, Thompson denounced what he described as a false portrayal of the investigation as political rather than bipartisan. Cheney noted that Trump said he thought his supporters may have had the “right idea” to call for then-Vice President Mike Pence’s hanging.
“You will hear testimony, live and on video, from more than half a dozen former White House staff in the Trump administration, all of whom were in the West Wing of the White House on Jan. 6,” Cheney said, previewing statements by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and others on Thursday night and future proceedings.
“Our Democracy Remains in Danger”
Both agreed with the need to revisit an attack on the U.S. Capitol that is now some 17 months in the rear view mirror.
“We can’t sweep what happened under the rug,” Thompson said. “The American people deserve answers. So I come before you this evening not as a Democrat, but as an American who swore an oath to defend the Constitution. The Constitution doesn’t protect just Democrats or just Republicans. It protects all of us: ‘We the People.’ And this scheme was an attempt to undermine the will of the people.”
Thompson noted, however, that “our democracy remains in danger.”
“The conspiracy to thwart the will of the people is not over,” Thompson said. “There are those in this country who thirst for power but have no love or respect for what makes America great: devotion to the Constitution, allegiance to the rule of law, our shared journey to build a more perfect Union.”
In the lead-up to the hearing, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) told reporters that the committee’s findings would put Trump “at the center” of a plot to try to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral victory. The committee’s aide echoed that framing in a call with reporters, describing a “coordinated, multi-step effort” by dangerous extremists to overturn the election.
As the presentation continued, committee leaders identified those extremists as the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys, whose leaders Stewart Rhodes and Enrique Tarrio both face seditious conspiracy charges. British documentary filmmaker Nick Quested captured their meeting before the attack on the Capitol, and the committee began to suggest that the groups sought out a vulnerability at the Peace Circle to clear a path for the rioters.
One of the police officers injured in that confrontation then told her tale.
“It Was Carnage. It Was Chaos.”
U.S. Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards, the first law enforcement official injured during the attack that day, testified that she never had combat training, but that responding to the attack on the U.S. Capitol required “hours and hours of hand-to-hand combat.”
“It was carnage,” she said. “It was chaos.”
Edwards suffered a concussion and traumatic brain injury after rioters overturned a barrier that she guarded, knocking her over and prompting the ongoing prosecution of her accused assailant Ryan Samsel. The committee indicated that she had not returned to the force since that time. She also recounted the late Officer Brian Sicknick looking “ghostly pale” after being sprayed by rioters. Sicknick later died, but no line was ever drawn by investigators firmly tying his assault and his death.
“I was called ‘Nancy Pelosi’s dog,’ called ‘incompetent,’ called a ‘hero’ and a ‘villain,'” Edwards testified. “I was called a traitor to my country, my oath and my Constitution.”
She added later: “I had been called names before. But never had my patriotism or duty been called into question.”
President Trump oversaw a sophisticated seven-part plan to overturn the 2020 election and prevent the transition of presidential power.
1 President Trump engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to the American public claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him.
2President Trump corruptly planned to replace the Acting Attorney General, so that the Department of Justice would support his fake election claims.
3President Trump corruptly pressured Vice President Pence to refuse to count certified electoral votes in violation of the US Constitution and the law.
4President Trump corruptly pressured state election officials, and state legislators, to change election results.
5President Trump’s legal team and other Trump associates instructed Republicans in multiple states to create false electoral slates and transmit those slates to Congress and the National Archives.
6President Trump summoned and assembled a violent mob in Washington and directed them to march on the US Capitol.
7As the violence was underway, President Trump ignored multiple pleas for assistance and failed to take immediate action to stop the violence and instruct his supporters to leave the Capitol.
You’ll never have the door code…
LOL
Roger....
You do realize that it is the speaker of the house who is actually in charge of the Capital Complex security.
Did the committee divulge the fact that Pelosi rejected calls for more security?
Just curious if they told the truth or pretended that Trump was in charge of their security?
Not to mention that the Capital police and national guard or under the direction of the DC mayor.
The House select committee investigating the deadly January 6 assault on the US Capitol in 2021 said Donald Trump was at the center of a sprawling conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election that culminated in an “attempted coup”.
With a shocking new accounting of the worst attack on the halls of Congress in more than two centuries, the committee outlined in gripping detail over the course of two hours on Thursday night the grave threat posed to American democracy then and now by the former president’s actions.
“The American people deserve answers,” said Congressman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat and chairman of the committee. “So tonight, and over the next few weeks, we’re going to remind you of the reality of what happened that day.
Your comment is irrelevant.

congresswoman Liz Cheney, a Republican of Wyoming and its vice-chair, laid out what they described as the “unconstitutional” misconduct of a former president who continues to peddle the lie that the election he lost to Democrat Joe Biden was stolen from him – a lie, they argue, that he knows to be false.
‘What happened tonight was historic’: Bob Woodward says Jan. 6 committee ‘has it cold’
Bob Brigham
June 09, 2022
Legendary journalist Robert Woodward said that the case was made against Donald Trump by the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Woodward was interviewed by CNN's Anderson Cooper following the select committee's first prime-time hearing.
"Was there anything really new tonight? For minds that are already made up, was there anything new that would convince people to look at this in a new light?" Cooper asked.
"Oh, yes," Woodward replied.
"I think what happened tonight was historic. I think it's a brilliant, truly brilliant presentation by Benny Thompson and by Liz Cheney. Listen to the detail and the — they have it, they have it cold as best I can tell and from my own reporting," he said.
Woodward compared tonight's hearing to a Senate hearing that took place exactly 68 years earlier.
"I also think this committee has done kind of the equivalent of what happened in the famous Army-McCarthy hearing when Joe McCarthy was accused by a lawyer in a very memorable way saying you have -- do you have no shame," Woodward said. "This committee has essentially said, to Donald Trump, do you have no shame?"

Carl Bernstein says Jan. 6 hearing presents ‘a moment of truth for the Republican Party’
Bob Brigham
June 09, 2022
Legendary Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein said Thursday's prime-time hearing by the House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol has forced the Republican Party into a moment of truth.
Bernstern was interviewed by CNN's Anderson Cooper alongside his old partner, Robert Woodward.
Woodward compared the "historic" hearings to a famous Senate hearing that occurred exactly 68 years early.
Bernstein build off of Woodward's idea.
"First of all, we have a picture now of the audacity of a criminal, conspiratorial president of the United States," he said. "Not just sedition, but a coup he attempted in which he tried to take over the vice presidency, the Department of Justice, the attorney general, the states attorney general. This was a coup in this country, we've never even seen and attempted anything like this."
"This is a moment of truth for the Republican Party. There's been few like it. There's been 68 years ago, Joe McCarthy, Nixon, this is the next real test of what the Republican Party is. And Liz said there will come a time when 'Donald Trump is gone but your dishonor will remain,'" Bernstein explained. "Really, Bob asked the right question here. 'Have you no shame?'"
Neither do you
Cheney’s opening remarks laid out during the prime-time hearing what the committee plans to unveil in its upcoming hearings, including what she said was a “sophisticated seven-part plan” that Trump had to overturn the presidential election — though she did not immediately disclose what steps were included in that plan.
“On the morning of January 6th, President Donald Trump’s intention was to remain president of the United States, despite the lawful outcome of the 2020 election and in violation of his constitutional obligation to relinquish power,” Cheney said.
She went on to claim that Representative Scott Perry (R., Pa.) and “multiple other Republican congressmen” sought presidential pardons “for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election.”
The committee also introduced testimony that suggested several people in Trump’s inner circle disagreed with the former president’s claims that the election had been stolen.
The hearing featured a clip of recorded testimony from ex-Trump senior adviser Jason Miller saying that the campaign’s lead data aide told Trump “in pretty blunt terms that he was going to lose.”

Got tv rating for what Alan dershowitz call the show trial and a black mark on Biden's America
Dayum you fucking losers will never accept the truth!!!!!!!! Great moments in the hearing showing Barr telling trump there was no fraud and Ivanka his favorite kid accepting that fact....Also compelling how much organization from the proud boys on their march to the capital before trumps speech at the eclipse!!!!!! How can that be that the bumbling laying sack of shit can convince sooooooo many that he won is astounding!!!! Funny how Lil Schitty posts his bullshit opinion about Biden's TV interview while accepting the trump total lie that appears he was well aware was bullshit!!!! LOCK HIM UP!!!!!!
Why does the left care so much about something they don't watch? Well this is as it always is. The left wants control, and they lose control when people have the choice of watching something different from what the left wants everyone to watch.
I was clicking back and forth between Tucker and the Yankee game (which turned out to be a home run derby). I suspect that Tucker crushed the Kangaroo Court in the ratings, and I also suspect that the left was pissed that Fox didn't carry the hearings because they were desperate for the ratings that they hoped Fox coverage would bring.
Anyway... what troubled me was the contrast in media coverage between clown show hearing which was staged political theatre, and the very real attempt made on the life of a sitting USSC Justice and his family. The former being a fucking joke, and the latter being a literal life and death potential constitutional crisis, and no one on the left or in the media (redundant, I know) gave a shit. In fact, it seemed to be disappointed that the attempt failed as it would've given FJB another USSC appointment had it succeeded.
The life blood of the left is hatred. Without someone or something to hate they're nothing. And thanks to the left and their endless hatred, we continue our slow march to a hot civil war in America.
As they wish.
The only conclusion that a rational, clear-thinking individual can draw from last night's Kangaroo Court is that the democrats have officially criminalized all political opposition.
The DOJ/FBI is now the democrat's STASI, and wrongthink against the party will result in your life being ruined and your chances for due process being extinguished. Or worse, you're shot to death like Ashli Babbitt or beaten to death like Rosanne Boyland.
This is where we are, and I don't think it ends well.
MORE RAT BULLSHIT FROM RATS ABSCESSED MIND.........The only ones who don't care are people like you and Lil Schitty who still hold onto the belief the election was stolen and trump did nothing to choreograph the capital riots.....that sure was blown out of the water last night except for fox views like you!!!!!! BWAAAAAAPAAAAAA!!!!!!! Trump played you like PT Barnum selling seats to a side show!!!! Trump had your number and your response above shows again you are too fucking stupid even for a slurper!!!!!
The only conclusion that a rational, clear-thinking individual can draw from last night's Kangaroo Court is that the democrats have officially criminalized all political opposition.
BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Must suck to be as stupid as you rat!!!!!!!! Maybe you can point out something that was wrong from the hearings instead of the trumpian it was all bullshit.....There is still no evidence of fraud and all fingers are pointing at trump leading the proud boys into riots.......Sad you can't figure that out as many will from the facts shown last nigh@!!!!!!!
Another reason the GOP is heading the way of the Know Nothing party!!!!

The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh should have universally shocked Americans. It seems that, out of basic human decency, people should have a real problem with resorting to violence and killing over differences in opinion on public policy, regardless of what side of the aisle they’re on.
Americans come together in the aftermath of tragedies such as mass shootings, natural disasters, and other highly publicized events that leave families shattered. Yet, people apparently have different attitudes about political assassinations.
According to a recently released poll, nearly half of male Democrats under the age of 50 (44 %) say it’s acceptable to assassinate a politician “who is harming the country or our democracy,” the highest percentage of any age/gender/party demographic.
The poll, which was conducted by Tulchin Research for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), also found that nearly a third of younger Democrat women and younger Republican men agreed with the statement, as did 40% of younger Republican women.

It’s not clear if the January 6 hearings will produce prosecutions or even a meaningful change in public opinion, but Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) performance last night will long be remembered as masterful.
Cheney once had a bright future in Republican politics. She was number three in the House Republican leadership and had built solid conservative credentials. Her family pedigree alone probably guaranteed her a shot at being Speaker one day.
In the days after the January 6 insurrection, Cheney was one of many Republicans who initially condemned the attack. But one by one, nearly all reversed themselves.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called Trump’s actions “despicable” in a Senate floor speech but later voted to acquit him in the Senate impeachment trial.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told colleagues Trump was finished, but then tied himself into a pretzel trying to get back into the former president’s good graces.
Yet Cheney risked her entire political future by standing by her convictions and defending her oath of office. She may well lose her seat in Congress in a GOP primary later this summer.
Whether you agree with her political views or not, her personal sacrifice meets the true test of political courage. It’s exceedingly rare in politics and should be celebrated.
She will go down in history as one of the greatest women in history.
"YEP......fuck kids" Dopie
You mean the 1,700 kids aborted each day, those kids?
Ouch
For market participants, the Bureau of Labor Statistics' release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was a key print, offering a fresh look at the extent to which price increases have persisted across the U.S. economy. The index unexpectedly accelerated to post an 8.6% annual increase in May, following April's 8.3% rise. On a month-over-month basis, CPI also jumped by 1.0%, or more than the 0.7% rise expected, and April's 0.3% increase.
unexpectedly
Joe did that
Are the TV ratings out on this?
Are they yuge?
The hearings exposed the coldheartedtruth about Donald Trump and his supporters, as the greatest threat in over 230+ years.
Can't be true.

You nor Alky have a whole lot of time left on this spinning orb.
Look squirrel!
LOL
This might make the hearings irrelevant to millions.
US inflation hit a new 40-year high last month of 8.6%
The costs of gas, food and other necessities jumped in May, raising inflation to a new four-decade high and giving American households no respite from rising costs.
Consumer prices surged 8.6% last month from 12 months earlier, faster than April’s year-over-year surge of 8.3%, the Labor Department said Friday.
On a month-to-month basis, prices jumped 1% from April to May, a steep rise from the 0.3% increase from March to April. Much higher gas prices were to blame for most of that increase.
BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! At you again shorty!!!!! Just because your shit don't stink does not give you any insight to the FACTS presented... All you and Lil Schitty have is an opinion that to date cannot refute anything presented last night other than it is a scam typical of idiots like you!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLO

The House panel investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol laid the blame firmly on Donald Trump Thursday night, saying the assault was hardly spontaneous but an “attempted coup” and a direct result of the defeated president’s effort to overturn the 2020 election.
With a never-before-seen 12-minute video of extremist groups leading the deadly siege and startling testimony from Trump’s most inner circle, the 1/6 committee provided gripping detail in contending that Trump’s repeated lies about election fraud and his public effort to stop Joe Biden’s victory led to the attack and imperiled American democracy
“Democracy remains in danger,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chairman of the panel, during the hearing, timed for prime time to reach as many Americans as possible.
“Jan. 6 was the culmination of an attempted coup, a brazen attempt, as one rioter put it shortly after Jan. 6, to overthrow the government,” Thompson said. “The violence was no accident.”
The hearings may not change Americans’ views on the Capitol attack, but the panel’s investigation is intended to stand as its public record. Ahead of this fall’s midterm elections, and with Trump considering another White House run, the committee’s final report aims to account for the most violent attack on the Capitol since 1814, and to ensure such an attack never happens again.
the most violent attack on the Capitol since 1814
Right.
More violent than this:
November 7, 1983
The Senate had planned to work late into the evening of Monday, November 7, 1983. Deliberations proceeded more smoothly than expected, however, so the body adjourned at 7:02 p.m. A crowded reception, held near the Senate Chamber, broke up two hours later. Consequently, at 10:58 p.m., when a thunderous explosion tore through the second floor of the Capitol’s north wing, the adjacent halls were virtually deserted. Many lives had been spared.
Minutes before the blast, a caller claiming to represent the “Armed Resistance Unit” had warned the Capitol switchboard that a bomb had been placed near the chamber in retaliation for recent U.S. military involvement in Grenada and Lebanon.
The force of the device, hidden under a bench at the eastern end of the corridor outside the chamber, blew off the door to the office of Democratic Leader Robert C. Byrd. The blast also punched a potentially lethal hole in a wall partition sending a shower of pulverized brick, plaster, and glass into the Republican cloakroom. Although the explosion caused no structural damage to the Capitol, it shattered mirrors, chandeliers, and furniture. Officials calculated damages of $250,000.
A stately portrait of Daniel Webster, located across from the concealed bomb, received the explosion’s full force. The blast tore away Webster’s face and left it scattered across the Minton tiles in one-inch canvas shards. Quick thinking Senate curators rescued the fragments from debris-filled trash bins. Over the coming months, a capable conservator painstakingly restored the painting to a credible, if somewhat diminished, version of the original.
Following a five-year investigation, federal agents arrested six members of the so-called Resistance Conspiracy in May 1988 and charged them with bombings of the Capitol, Ft. McNair, and the Washington Navy Yard. In 1990, a federal judge sentenced Marilyn Buck, Laura Whitehorn, and Linda Evans to lengthy prison terms for conspiracy and malicious destruction of government property. The court dropped charges against three co-defendants, already serving extended prison sentences for related crimes.

Who died, who were they, and how did they actually die.
Couldn't be simpler
And very important
And definitely should all have been captured on the 14,000 hours of unreleased video

that Capitol Police refuse to release

The future of the country is on the line.
During a dramatic primetime hearing on Thursday, the House Jan. 6 committee asserted that former President Trump knew in November that he had lost the 2020 election, conspired with his allies for weeks to violate his oath and the Constitution to scheme to try to remain in office and knowingly “lit the flame” of a “coordinated and planned,” hours-long insurrection at the Capitol, which he viewed on TV at the White House while rejecting multiple entreaties to halt it.
“Jan. 6 was the culmination of an attempted coup,” said Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) as he described more public hearings next week and later in June. “This scheme was an attempt to overthrow the will of the people.”

Attack on January 6 was the ‘culmination of an attempted coup’
Presenting an overview of the hearing and the ones to come, House select committee chair Bennie Thompson and vice-chair Liz Cheney presented their findings that the violent mob that descended on the Capitol was no spontaneous occurrence.
Video testimony from Donald Trump’s attorney general, his daughter, and other allies make the case that the former president was working to undermine the 2020 election results and foment backlash. “Any legal jargon you hear about ‘seditious conspiracy’, ‘obstruction of an official proceeding’, ‘conspiracy to defraud the United States’ boils down to this,” Thompson said. “January 6 was the culmination of an attempted coup. A brazen attempt, as one rioter put it shortly after January 6, to overthrow the government. Violence was no accident. It represented Trump’s last stand, most desperate chance to halt the transfer of power.”
Approval of President Biden's job performance slipped to just 33% in a poll released Wednesday by Quinnipiac University — as even key Democratic voting blocs such as young people and racial minorities give the president a big thumbs-down.
The survey, conducted June 3-6, found that 22% of Americans ages 18-34 approve of Biden's performance — the lowest rating of any age group. Just 24% of Hispanic voters and 49% of black voters said they approve of Biden's work.

Cops refuse to release body cam footage of Paul Pelosi’s DUI arrest
Authorities in California have refused to release any footage showing the DUI arrest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, saying it could “jeopardize” the investigation.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Thursday denied a public records request seeking the release of body and dashboard camera video documenting Paul Pelosi’s arrest last month on suspicion of drunk driving.
CHP informed Fox News Digital in a letter that it has the footage in question, “however, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office has advised the release of records would jeopardize an ongoing investigation.”
In a separate press release Thursday, the DA’s Office said that it has not decided yet what, if any, charges, will be filed against the 82-year-old businessman.
“This is standard protocol in any DUI case that is referred by a law enforcement agency in Napa County,” the agency stated. “No decision has been made at this time. Any speculation to the contrary is incorrect.”
The statement was in response to a flurry of posts falsely claiming that all DUI charges against Pelosi were dropped, which spread widely on social media this week.

The consumer price index rose 8.6% in May from a year ago, the highest increase since December 1981. Core inflation excluding food and energy rose 6%. Both were higher than expected.
Surging food, gas and energy prices all contributed to the gain, with fuel oil up 106.7% over the past year.
Shelter costs, which comprise about one-third of the CPI, rose at the fastest 12-month pace in 31 years.
The rise in inflation meant workers lost more ground in May, with real wages declining 0.6% from April and 3% on a 12-month basis.

History Will Hold Trump Accountable
June 10, 2022 at 10:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 38 Comments
Robert Reich:
“I don’t know whether Trump will be prosecuted. He deserves to be. He has violated his oath to the Constitution; he has violated America. But even if he is not prosecuted, the hearings will provide a full, detailed account of what Trump did in the weeks and months after the 2020 election — and therefore of what he did to our nation.
“In other words, even if he avoids prosecution, even if he is never formally deemed a criminal under the law, Trump will be accountable to history. That is not as satisfying a form of accountability as a criminal judgment, to be sure. But it is a form of accountability that is inescapable. If the committee does its work properly — and I have every confidence it will — it will create a clear record. Which means that for our children and our children’s children — for as far as future generations will know of our recorded history — Donald Trump will live in infamy.”

And Republicans will bear the brunt of history's judgment:
How they kow towed to a would-be dictator and cowardly defended his his lies.

Heather Cox Richardson:
“Pundits had speculated before tonight’s televised hearing that it would not make compelling television, but they could not have been more wrong. The Fox News Channel, some of whose personalities were involved in the events surrounding January 6, refused to air the proceedings. Nonetheless, that channel inadvertently proved just how powerful the hearing was when it ran Tucker Carlson’s show without commercial breaks, apparently afraid that if anyone began to channel surf they might be drawn in by the hearing on other channels.”

“Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results. She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!).”

Why the January 6 Hearings May Still Matter
June 10, 2022 at 6:25 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 15 Comments
David Leonhardt:
“There are still many Republican voters disgusted by what happened on Jan. 6. Nearly half say that finding out what happened that day is important. Almost 20 percent consider the attack to have been an attempt to overthrow the government, according to a recent CBS News poll. About 40 percent believe, accurately, that voter fraud was not widespread in the 2020 election.
“If Republican voters are divided over the attack and Democrats are almost uniformly horrified by it, the politicians making excuses for it remain in the minority. Candidates who base their campaigns on lies about voter fraud — as some are now doing in Arizona, Pennsylvania and elsewhere — will have a harder time winning elections. Future efforts to overturn an election will be less likely to succeed.”
Food shortages are getting more numerous.

They won't look like partisan because.
The Jan. 6 select committee won’t personally tell the story of Donald Trump’s bid to subvert the 2020 election. Instead, they’re letting Trump’s own aides, confidants and family members do it for them.
The panel made clear at its first public hearing Thursday that it would rather let Trump’s own inner circle stitch together the details of the former president’s actions to remain in power — and his inaction as a mob of supporters overran the Capitol. Videos showed Ivanka Trump, former Attorney General William Barr and Trump campaign advisers testify that the former president had really lost the 2020 election, as committee members mostly remained in the background.

Will the Hearings Impact the Midterms?
June 10, 2022 at 6:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 44 Comments
Punchbowl News: “We can’t say right now. But it was plain to anyone watching that the select committee is far from a sham, as Trump and GOP leaders have asserted for months. Its presentation was delivered extraordinarily effectively. Trump and his Republican allies were eviscerated by the testimony and statements from his own former aides and administration officials. Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the chair and vice chair of the panel, orchestrated a brutal takedown. Cheney’s performance was particularly poignant given how Republicans treated her over the last two years.
“There’s also a clear plan for this series of hearings during the rest of June. It’s going to be a long few weeks for the House Republican leadership, which has stood unflinchingly behind Trump.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) spoke to Jake Tapper on CNN after last night’s January 6 hearing:

THOMPSON: Yes.
TAPPER: There will be?
THOMPSON: Yes.

The networks didn't censor bullshit.
Barr was saying was that his justice department had discovered no significant fraud to support Donald Trump’s claim – one the former president is still making – that massive voter fraud in several states caused the 2020 election to be “stolen” from him.
The committee showed a video of Barr’s appearance before panel investigators. In that video, Barr called his former boss’s fraud claims “bullshit” and said that he had “repeatedly told the president in no uncertain terms that I did not see evidence of fraud that would have affected the outcome of the election. And frankly, a year and a half later, I still haven’t.”
