How do you know that the Jan 6th commission is partisan?

Only 21% of the American public is "very confident" that the Jan 6th commission is even interested in the truth!

When you consider that approximately 5% of the American public watched the hearings, you can bet your bottom dollar that 90% of those who watched were already convinced that Trump is the second coming of Satan, that he broke dozens of laws, and that Jan 6th is truly worse than 9-11.

As many pointed out... this could have been an honest hearing with both sides being provided a forum to make an argument. But rather, this is just a partisan witch hunt looking for a crime to describe actions that are simply not criminal under the actual law. Pelosi and gang were more interested in censoring what they didn't want brought up than making a real case.

Every "defendant" is allowed to confront the accusers and present their own defense. Make no mistake, the commission isn't about Jan 6th. It's about "attacking" Trump ahead of the 2024 elections because they are petrified that he will run again and win.

You really don't believe Bill Barr anymore.

The committee played video of its deposition with former Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, in which Stepien said he advised Trump on election night that it was too early to call the race and that they needed to wait until early and mail-in ballots were counted. Trump objected to that advice, Stepien said, and claimed that night that he had won, baselessly calling the race a “fraud” and an “embarrassment.”

Stepien told the committee that Trump’s orbit had cleaved into “Team Crazy” vs. “Team Normal” and that he was glad to be on the latter. However, Trump was increasingly listening only to allies who pushed conspiracy theories about the election.

“I was somewhat demoralized because I thought, boy … he has become detached from reality if he really believes this stuff,” former Trump attorney general William P. Barr said, according to video testimony the committee played Monday. “When I went into this and would tell them how crazy some of these allegations were, there was never an indication of interest in what the actual facts were.”

Joe Biden is showing signs of age related issues but he is not detached from reality like you Scott.

There is a pretty general consensus outside of those who already wrote their adoration about the committee before it even happened... that the prime time special was a dud.

The only question now is does it hurt them (Democrats) in 2022 or are people going to just ignore it.

On Nov. 9, 2020, less than a week after Election Day, Trump created his Save America PAC, a political action committee through which he’s continued to exert political power into his post-presidency. Money raised through the ads hawking election defense largely went to this entity, which benefited his businesses and political allies.

Trump’s Save America PAC benefited his political allies on misleading ads telling donors that the funds would be used on election litigation, the Jan. 6 Committee found.

According to the Jan. 6 Committee, this PAC funneled $1 million to the Conservative Partnership Institute, the charitable foundation of Trump’s ex-chief of staff Mark Meadows; $1 million to the America First Policy Institute, which employs his old officials; and $204,857 to the Trump Hotel Collection.

More than $5 million went to Event Strategies Inc., the entity that ran Trump’s rally at the Ellipse on Jan. 6, the committee found.

According to Wick, the fundraising emails continued even as Trump delivered his speech, and the Capitol was breached 30 minutes after the last one was sent.

Before Monday, some of Trump’s post-election windfall became apparent in federal filings.

In May, a federal judge appointed by Trump rejected the Republican Party’s effort to block a subpoena looking into their marketing strategies.

“In sum, the materials demanded have particular ‘value’ to the Select Committee ‘in the exercise of legislative duty,’ and its interest in this information is strong,” U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly found at the time.

Asked whether the committee’s findings suggest Trump broke the law, Rep. Lofgren declined to take the bait.

“It’s clear that he intentionally misled his donors, asked them to donate to a fund that didn’t exist and used the money raised for something other than what he said,” Lofgren said. “Now it’s for someone else to decide whether that’s criminal or not.”

Typicall behavior of a Mafia leader

“A Coup In Search of a Legal Theory.”

Her questioning of Ginsberg completed, Lofgren noted that more than 60 judges in nine states have dismissed Trump’s election claims, including 24 elected or appointed Republican state judges and 22 federal judges appointed by Republican presidents—10 of those by Trump himself.

She also noted that all three Supreme Court justices appointed by Trump similarly rejected his fraud claims.

At least 11 lawyers have been referred to disciplinary proceedings “due to bad faith and baseless efforts to undermine the outcome of the 2020 election,” Lofgren said, including Rudy Giuliani, whose law license has been suspended in New York and may be permanently suspended in Washington, D.C.

“As we’ve just heard from perhaps most preeminent Republican election lawyer in recent history, the Trump campaign’s unprecedented effort to overturn its election loss in court was a deeply damaging abuse of the judicial process.”

Quoting U.S. District Judge David Carter—a Bill Clinton appointee who earlier this year found that Trump’s effort to stop Congress from certifying the election results may have been criminal—Lofgren said Trump’s litigation was “a coup in search of a legal theory.”

Lofgren said that while election litigation efforts don’t normally continue past a “safe harbor” date of Dec. 14 following an election, Trump kept going with the lawsuits in an effort to continue raising funds as part of what she described as “the Big Rip-off.”

If mere objections to electoral certification are now criminal, as the Jan. 6 Committee operations indicate, Democrats will still have to answer for their certification protests in 2001, 2005, and 2017.

In 2017, Reps. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, Barbara Lee, D-Calif., Maxine Waters, D-Calif., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., who was an impeachment manager, each objected to electoral votes when Congress certified President Donald Trump’s triumphant 2016 victory. In fact, Democrats objected to more states in 2017 than Republicans did last year, citing Russian interference and alleged voter suppression. And they even fundraised off of it.

To this day, Clinton still claims the 2016 election was “stolen” from her.

In 2005, New York Rep. Jerry Nadler decried the 2004 contest as “stolen” and demanded an investigation of voting machines. In 2000, California Rep. Maxine Waters called the results “fraudulent.”

Republicans, meanwhile, remain vilified by the partisan witch hunt probe for raising concerns over an election conducted with a cascade of late-game rule changes that featured record-level turnout in the form of mail-in voting monopolized by left-wing private actors.

You cannot debunk a poll with an opinion of a geezer who worked on a case 22 years ago!

How you could debunk it would be by having someone making the case that Trump did NOT break the law. There are plenty of them out there with much more credentials than some person they drug up from 2000.

Providing both sides IS THE DEFINITION of a hearing.

Providing only one side is a Kangaroo court.

A kangaroo court is a court that ignores recognized standards of law or justice, carries little or no official standing in the territory within which it resides, and is typically convened ad hoc. A kangaroo court may ignore due process and come to a predetermined conclusion.

If the case against Trump was sooo strong!

Why didn't they allow anyone to provide his side?

Some of the lawmakers on the committee have called for Garland to levy criminal charges against Trump. The former president is at the center of an array of investigations, including an inquiry into his business practices in New York. He will testify under oath in that probe on 15 July, along with his daughter Ivanka Trump and son Donald Trump Jr.

The House committee investigating Jan. 6 just wrapped up today’s hearings, a focused look at the spread of the lie that the 2020 election was rife with fraud and that DONALD TRUMP was its true victor.

The reality, as the committee detailed with testimony from people throughout Trump world, is that (1) Trump continued to lie about the outcome of the election even after being told over and over that he’d lost fair and square, and (2) every conspiracy theory about the election that was brought to the campaign was investigated and knocked down — even as those who debunked them were ignored or cast away.

BILL STEPIEN, Trump’s final campaign manager, recalled RUDY GIULIANI telling the president on election night that he needed to declare victory before all the votes were counted because “they’re stealing it from us. We need to go say that we won.” Anyone who disagreed was seen as “weak.”

Giuliani was “apparently inebriated” when he made that argument to Trump, Rep. LIZ CHENEY (R-Wyo.) said in her opening statement — a claim bolstered by the testimony of Stepien and Trump comms aide JASON MILLER. More from Kyle Cheney and Nicholas Wu

Stepien said he and others instead recommended that Trump use his election night speech to note that “votes were still being counted,” and that it’s “too early to call the race, but we are proud of the race we ran and we think we’re in good position, and will have more to say the next day or the next day.” Likewise, Miller said that he told Trump that “we should not go declaring victory until we had a better sense of the numbers.”

Stepien said Trump “thought I was wrong. He told me so.” Trump instead followed Giuliani’s advice.

“This is a fraud on the American public,” Trump said on election night. “This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election.”

What followed was an attempt to prove election fraud that did not exist. In recorded testimony, former A.G. BILL BARR told the committee that “there was an avalanche of all these allegations of fraud that built up over a number of days, and it was like playing whack-a-mole, because something would come out one day and then the next day, it would be another issue.”

And from there, the committee presented interview after interview attempting to prove not only that Trump was told repeatedly he’d lost the election, but also that he wasn’t interested in the actual facts at hand.

“I thought, ‘Boy, if he really believes this stuff, he has become detached from reality,’” Barr said. “[W]hen I would tell him how crazy some of these allegations were, there was never an indication of interest in what the actual facts were.”

Trump’s closest political and legal advisers (Republicans)who were virtually unanimous in saying they urged the president that claims of massive fraud were "completely bogus" — and at every overture, Trump simply ignored them and opted instead to listen to Giuliani.

You really do the same thing now anyhow.

Roger Amick uncensored said...

Instead of Trump on steroids named DeSantis rational Republicans should support him.

Politicians don’t enjoy it, but most change positions at least once in their careers. Then there’s Tom Cotton.

From restricting legal and illegal immigration to hawkish foreign policy to criticizing the nation’s “under-incarceration” of criminals, the Arkansas senator keeps staking out hardline positions in anticipation that fellow Republicans will come to him. As small-government as they come on every issue other than national security, Cotton is a 1980s throwback — mentioning former President Ronald Reagan 10 times in a lengthy interview with POLITICO.

And he sees his rigidity as a feature, not a bug of his brand of immovable politics.

“I have strong opinions … And I stick to those views, not till I feel vindicated, until I am vindicated on the facts, as I have been on almost every point,” Cotton said when asked if he feels redeemed by his steadfast views. “It’s not a matter of ‘I feel vindicated.’ It’s a matter that I have been vindicated.”

Cotton doesn’t say “no” when asked if he’s planning to run for president in 2024. His book, “Only the Strong,” is due out after the election and focuses on his national security approach.

And for a party still reeling from the peripatetic ideology of Donald Trump, Cotton could offer a predictable alternative: He builds few bridges to Democrats and isn’t afraid of clobbering Republicans, either..

DeSantis, 43, appears to offer everything that the Maga base would want in a candidate, a high-profile yet irascible and media-hostile politician who embraces the ultra-conservative tenets of Trumpism, but without the baggage of Trump’s two impeachments and seven-million vote thumping in the 2020 election after a single term in office.

While Trump, who left the White House in January 2021, berates his enemies real and perceived from his waterfront Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach, DeSantis has been enhancing his governing credentials from the Florida governor’s mansion in Tallahassee.

In recent weeks he has signed numerous “culture war” bills into law, including stripping Black voters of power by gerrymandering Florida’s congressional districts to favour Republicans; restricting how race and diversity are discussed and addressed in schools and businesses; and banning conversations of gender identity and sexual orientation in certain Florida classrooms with his “don’t say gay” law.

I think you mean obstruction of "congress" which is never charge and cannot be proven (since he didn't actually obstruct anything)... there is no crime of "illegal search for votes" and the "grand jury" has no authority to indict anyone... Lastly we just had two SDNY prosecutors resign because their "tax fraud" allegations were not strong enough (according to the DA) to make a case.

It sounds more like you are just repeating a list of the previous or open investigations on Trump... the Jan 6th has no authority, the Fulton County Grand Jury has no authority, and the New York investigation is pretty much down to investigating possible civil charges.
