Liberal elitists believe that they know better than minorities what minorities actually want...

Democrats are delusional about why they're losing Hispanics
Democrats continue to ignore the fact that for many people who have familial or personal histories with countries where socialism hasn’t played out well, having a self-described democratic socialist congresswoman (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) be nearly as nationally visible as the party’s actual leader (that would be President Biden) is a dog that just doesn’t hunt.
Hispanic Americans aren’t as rich as their white counterparts (although Hispanic poverty rates declined under Trump)—so when inflation bites, it’s reasonable to expect them to be more pissed off about it. It’s also not surprising that Texans might not be thrilled with the less-than-enthusiastic attitude the Biden administration seems to have taken to the oil industry.

When Republicans are winning seats with 85% Hispanic voters that have not gone GOP for 52 years, you have to see a red flag if you are a Democrat. They are pointing fingers at everything other than what they should be looking at. Themselves.

Evidence Links Trump to Fake Electors Scheme

June 19, 2022 at 7:39 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 385 Comments

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told CNN the January 6 Committee will reveal evidence that Donald Trump was involved in a failed effort to overturn the election by appointing pro-Trump electors in states won by Joe Biden.

ISN'T THAT ILLEGAL?

Said Schiff:
“We’ll also again show evidence about what his own lawyers came to think about this scheme."

YEAH, WE SURE DO WANT TO HEAR THAT!

"And we’ll show courageous state officials who stood up and said they wouldn’t go along with this plan to either call legislatures back into session or decertify the results for Joe Biden.”

WHICH PROVES THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN OUR COUNTRY WHO, REGARDLESS OF PARTY OR POSTION, PUT HONESTY AND INTEGRITY AND A PREFERENCE FOR THE TRUTH ABOVE ALL ELSE.

I'M THINKING THEY ARE STILL MANY IN NUMBER.

81 MILLION ANTI TRUMP VOTES
SUGGEST THEY ARE.

Legal expert anticipates the next Jan. 6 hearing evidence — and predicts nothing can save Trump

Sarah K. Burris

June 19, 2022

The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress and the plot to overthrow the 2020 election is set to meet again on Tuesday for a public hearing at 1 p.m. EST.

Speaking about the issues the committee will deal with, CNN legal expert Elie Honig noted that thus far, Americans have seen the way in which former President Donald Trump pressured Mike Pence and "weaponized the Justice Department." On Tuesday, Honig noted that the committee will show, among other things, how Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to magically "find" 11,780 votes so he could win the 2020 election.

"I think what we will see on Tuesday, the most audacious of all those efforts to get state officials to hand him their electoral votes," said Honig. "The Constitution tells us state legislatures do have the right to decide how they'll award their electoral votes, but the problem is they decided that many, many years ago, whoever wins the popular vote in the state gets all the electoral votes and Donald Trump quite aggressively thinks he can pick up the phone, call state officials and get them to flip that and hand him the electoral votes. And to the credit of those state-level officials, many Republicans, they said, no, that would violate the Constitution, violate our oaths. It would violate the law. Ultimately, this scheme really backfired and self-destructed in remarkable fashion."

Host Pamela Brown cited an ABC/Ipsos poll showing that 58 percent of Americans support charges against Trump after seeing just two hearings from the committee. That doesn't necessarily mean that prosecutors will form a decision based on that.

"DOJ and prosecutors are supposed to be separate from politics and from whatever the public thinks, but I do think the poll is interesting," Honig said. "I think it reflects the fact the committee has made a powerful evidentiary showing. The committee has given us new facts and re-established things we knew. Donald Trump tried to steal this election and most importantly, they've shown us inside Donald Trump's mind what prosecutors called intent. I think they've made a really powerful argument that he knew he had lost the election, that he knew there was no evidence of widespread election fraud, that he knew his legal schemes were completely unconstitutional and invalid. I think the committee has shown us a really strong foundation that prosecutors ought to be working on .

Republicans appear to be running on a platform of 'let's do the coup again but better'

Sarah K. Burris

June 19, 2022

John Oliver focused on the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Congress and the scam to overthrow the 2020 election.

Oliver began by focusing on John Eastman, who he warned, should be an indication to everyone to get rid of their lawyer if they show up to court.

Former White House Counsel Eric Herschmann testified before the committee that the idea that one man can decide who the next president of the United States. He asked, "are you out of your effing mind?"

"Right. Although, I will say at this point, you can just say 'f*ck,'" advised Oliver. "Democracy is hanging on by a thread, and you had a front-row seat. You can say f*ck. You said it then and you should say it now, because what he was suggesting to you there was bonkers. The idea that a single person can decide a presidency is completely against the ideals of this country which is why the Constitution starts with 'We the People,' and not 'Mike.'"

He explained that the point of the Jan. 6 hearing is to understand what happened and lessons for how to stop it from ever happening again. But according to some Republicans, it didn't go far enough.

Already there are over 100 Republican primary winners willing to stand up against American democracy and instead for Donald Trump.

Oliver looked at Donald Trump loyalist Jim Marchant, who is running for Nevada secretary of state. Amusingly, Marchant was happy to cite "the deep state cabal" against America. But when asked who he was alledging would steal the elections, he replied, I don't know. I think it's a global thing."

Oliver said it was a refreshing answer coming from a conspiracy theorist.

"Look, we all know there's a secret cabal pulling the strings of politicians around the world, but I'm certainly not going to wildly speculate about it. That would be irresponsible," Oliver said, pretending to be Marchant.

He's not the only one, Oliver pointed out that he is the leader of the America First Secretary of State Coalition, for far-right candidates willing to overthrow an election for the far right.

Audrey Trujillo is one of them and Kristina Karamo is another. While he pointed out the bizarre conspiracy theories of each of the candidates, Karamo's main one is that pre-marital sex paves the way for pedophilia. She's also an anti-vaccine person. Not merely the coronavirus vaccine but all vaccines. Oliver played the audio of her whispering into the phone about her anti-vaccine beliefs.

"Oh, come on, you don't sound crazy, whispered voice on the phone," he mocked. "I'm not saying she's wrong. She's wrong in such an outdated way. It's like being mad at Bill Clinton for smoking weed. You're mad at him for that? Come on, get with the program!"

Frankly, Oliver continued, "it should give everyone pause because the Jan. 6 committee is reminding everyone just how close we came to democracy basically collapsing. It was a hand full of people in the right position choosing to do the right thing that saved us from a constitutional crisis. But there are candidates running for consequential candidates running for office right now on the platform right now that basically, 'let's do the coup again, but better next time!'"

Akerman, who served as an assistant special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of former President Richard Nixon, said he believed that tape would be enough to lead to a possible conviction.

“If you are asking which of the cases right now, which one is going to send Donald Trump to prison, that is the case,” he said. “There is a really neat three-year felony in Georgia, that Donald Trump has violated. Prosecutors love tape-recorded evidence because you cannot cross-examine it”

“What is significant with those tapes is that when you put it in context of all of the evidence that the January 6 committee has uncovered — you put that together, Donald Trump has zero defense in Georgia,” he added.

“If I had to put my money on one prosecution that’s going to go forward here that will send Donald Trump to jail — it’s Georgia.

Supreme Court Rushes to End Term Like No Other
June 20, 2022 at 7:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN: “Under normal circumstances on decision days at the end of June, the Supreme Court emerges from behind crimson curtains to finally issue the most controversial cases of the term after months of closed-door deliberations. Wearing their judicial robe and exhausted from the final push of work, the justices take their seats and the majority opinion is read by its author.”

“None of that is expected to happen this month.”

“With no pomp and circumstance, an official will push a button and opinions changing the contours of some of the most divisive social issues of the day including abortion, gun rights, religious liberty and the environment — will simply be released via the internet.”

Trump Campaign Coordinated Fake Elector Scheme
June 20, 2022 at 7:20 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 5 Comments

Washington Post: “At the time, the gatherings seemed a slapdash, desperate attempt to mimic President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede.”

“But internal campaign emails and memos reveal that the convening of the fake electors appeared to be a much more concerted strategy, intended to give Vice President Mike Pence a reason to declare the outcome of the election was somehow in doubt on Jan. 6, 2021, when he was to preside over the congressional counting of the electoral college votes.”

“The documents show Trump’s team pushed ahead and urged the electors to meet — then pressured Pence to cite the alternate Trump slates — even as various Trump lawyers acknowledged privately they did not have legal validity and the gatherings had not been in compliance with state laws.”

Any Deal with Joe Manchin Could Stall in the House
June 20, 2022 at 7:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 9 Comments

“There’s lots of buzz about a possible reconciliation deal between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). Discussions are ongoing, although there’s no deal yet, and there won’t be one this week,” Punchbowl News reports.

“What’s in a potential Democratic reconciliation package – and when it could come together – are enormously important. And of course, none of this is decided yet.”

“Yet we want to note this as well – we’re not entirely sure the reconciliation package being discussed on the Senate side could pass the House. Provided it gets through the Senate in the first place.”

Gun Talks Back on Track
June 20, 2022 at 7:13 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 4 Comments

Punchbowl News: “It appears that the negotiations are back ‘on track’ following discussions over the weekend between the bipartisan groups of senators trying to hash out the package. These talks are being led by Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and John Cornyn (R-TX), with Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ.) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) filling out the rest of the ‘core’ group.”

“The discussions were hung up over two key issues – the so-called ‘boyfriend loophole,’ and providing funds to states that don’t implement red flag laws but instead have crisis intervention programs.”

“However, there appears to have been some concessions by Democrats on both these issues, and the negotiations are moving forward again… This doesn’t necessarily mean the Senate will clear the bill by the start of this recess, as Democrats had hoped. But there is some momentum again, which is far different from the mood when the Senate left on Thursday.”

Can We Develop a Covid-19 Vaccine That Lasts?
June 20, 2022 at 7:07 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 8 Comments

“Roughly two and a half years into the pandemic, White House officials and health experts have reached a pivotal conclusion about Covid-19 vaccines: The current approach of offering booster shots every few months isn’t sustainable,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Though most vaccines take years to develop, the Covid shots now in use were created in record time—in a matter of months. For health authorities and a public desperate for tools to deal with the pandemic, their speedy arrival provided a huge lift, preventing hospitalizations and deaths while helping people to escape lockdowns and return to work, school and many other aspects of pre-Covid life.”

“But the Covid vaccines don’t last nearly as long as shots given for other viral illnesses such as polio, mumps and hepatitis, which remain effective for years or decades. Even more worrisome to some scientists and public health officials, the current vaccines don’t fully protect against infections, which hurts their overall effectiveness and gives the virus an opportunity to mutate into more contagious and lethal strains.”

“That stance marks a sharp reversal of the U.N. health agency’s initial assessment of the pandemic’s origins and comes after many critics accused the WHO of being too quick to dismiss or underplay a lab-leak theory that put Chinese officials on the defensive.”

What an Abortion Compromise Could Look Like

“When the two sides in the abortion debate squared off at the Supreme Court last fall, they agreed on one thing: There was no middle ground,” Politico reports.

“Now, any hope abortion rights supporters have of avoiding a historic loss before the court lies with Chief Justice John Roberts crafting an unlikely compromise. In the wake of Politico’s report last month on a draft majority opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade, Roberts would have to convince at least one of his five Republican-appointed colleagues to sign on to a compromise ruling that would preserve a federal constitutional right to abortion in some form while giving states even more power to restrict that right.”

Leftists treat actual evidence like how a vampire treats a crucifix.  There is no reasoned discourse, just a lot of hissing and snarling.

From well before he took office, Donald Trump faced an ongoing administrative coup attempt.  First was the long-running Russian collusion hoax, mounted by Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee and abetted by the FBI and intelligence agencies.  Federal employees who were, theoretically, subordinate to Trump gleefully worked to undermine his administration.  Two baseless impeachments were mounted against him by Democrats who know nothing other than shrieking partisanship anymore.  The slow-moving coup finally succeeded on the evening of November 3, 2020, when those five states quit counting ballots to give Democrats time to "fortify" the election.  The last real hurdle to thwarting election integrity came on December 11, 2020, when the Supreme Court ruled that Texas and 18 other states lacked standing to complain of massive fraud.  How states that conduct honest elections lack standing to complain of states that don't in an election that affects them all is beyond my understanding.  It looked like unconditional institutional surrender to massive fraud to me.  All hail the barbarians!

“We’ll show evidence of the president’s involvement in this scheme. We’ll also, again, show evidence about what his own lawyers came to think about this scheme,” Schiff said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “And we’ll show courageous state officials who stood up and said they wouldn’t go along with this plan to either call legislatures back into session or decertify the results for Joe Biden. The system held because a lot of state and local elections officials upheld their oath to the Constitution. A lot of them are Republicans as well as Democrats.”

This week will be very interesting. Axios report

Members of the Jan. 6 select committee said Sunday they may subpoena former Vice President Mike Pence, the Associated Press reports.

Driving the news: “We’re not taking anything off the table in terms of witnesses who have not yet testified,” said Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on CNN's "State of the Union" over the weekend asked about subpoenaing Pence.

“We would still, I think, like to have several high-profile people come before our committee,” he added. He said a Pence subpoena is “certainly a possibility. We're not excluding anyone or anything at this point."Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the committee's chairman, said the Jan. 6 panel was “engaging” with Pence’s lawyers, AP reports.

The big picture: The Jan. 6 panel recently zeroed in on a scheme by former President Trump and his allies to pressure Pence to reject electors in order to overturn the 2020 election.

Between the lines: The Jan. 6 committee has received much information about Trump's call to Pence on the morning of Jan. 6 in which Trump pleaded for Pence to stop the certification of electoral votes, AP reports. But the committee has yet to hear Pence's side of the phone call.

"It started off [in a] calmer tone ... and then it became heated," former White House lawyer Eric Herschmann told the committee last week, Axios' Andrew Solender reports.Julie Radford, Ivanka Trump's chief of staff, said Trump called Pence the "p-word" on that call.Retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Pence's former national security adviser, said Trump also told Pence that he was "not tough enough to make the call."

Worth noting: The committee is also interested in hearing from Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. She reportedly played an active role on Jan. 6 and Trump's efforts to overturn the election.

The notion that state legislatures could choose electors in defiance of voters would be a radical one in modern American history. But the documents show Trump strategists quickly began to pursue the theory, especially as lawyers for the campaign and allied groups racked up losses in court cases that they had urged judges to hear expeditiously, before the electors could meet.

Their idea was that state legislatures could step in if the election had been marred by massive fraud or illegality. The Trump campaign pushed the fraud narrative even though the president and other top officials were told over and over, even by allies, that there was no evidence to support it, committee evidence and testimony has shown.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Ultimately, Pence refused to recognize the Trump elector slates, earning him the president’s anger and making him a target of the mob that ransacked the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Four days later, after Congress confirmed Biden’s win and Trump prepared to leave office, Eastman received an email demanding to know what had happened.

“Tell us in layman’s language, what the heck happened with the dual electors? Please?” read the email, which was from a person whose name is redacted in a version released publicly.

In his response, Eastman admitted the facts: The electors never had legal standing.

“No legislature certified them [because governors refused to call them into session], so they had no authority,” he wrote.

“Alas,” he concluded.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The emails show some Trump advisers began strategizing just days after the election about how to construct a legal argument for advancing their own electors, even though laws in every state hold that electors are determined by the certified vote of the people.

In particular, they started mulling whether state legislatures, which in a number of key states were controlled by the GOP, could appoint Trump electors even if the certified results showed Biden won.

Long before January 6th Attack

.
The convening of the electoral college on Dec. 14, 2020, was supposed to mark the end of the wild, extended presidential election that year.

But when the day arrived, a strange thing happened. In seven swing states won by Joe Biden, when the Democrat’s electors assembled to formally elect him president, Trump supporters showed up, too, ready to declare that their man had actually won.

“The electors are already here — they’ve been checked in,” a state police officer told the group in Michigan, according to a video of the encounter, as he barred the Republicans from the Capitol in a state Biden won by more than 154,000 votes.

In Nevada, a state Biden had won by about 33,600 votes, a photo distributed by the state Republican Party showed Trump supporters squeezing around an undersize picnic table dressed up with a bit of bunting, preparing to sign formal certificates declaring that they were “the duly elected and qualified” electors of their state.

Putin’s price hike’

Biden and Democrats say high prices are largely a result of Russian President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, which has sent oil and food prices soaring.

“Inflation is still too high and Putin’s price hike continues to impact food and energy prices,” Biden said on Friday in a statement after the latest numbers were released. “There is more work to do, and tackling inflation is my top economic priority.”

Biden is correct that the invasion rocked the oil market and contributed to higher inflation the past two months. But prices began rising sharply well before Putin shocked the world and attacked Ukraine in late February.

Inflation sank to a pandemic low of 0.1 percent in May 2020 even as both the Fed and Congress began pouring trillions into the economy and the central bank kept interest rates at historic lows. But as soon as some Covid restrictions began to lift in the summer of that year, inflation began to rise, picking up strength in February 2021. The Consumer Price Index, the better-known inflation gauge, hit 7.5 percent in January of this year. It was at 8.3 percent in April over the previous year.

Biden was also correct that energy costs comporised nearly 70 percent of the monthly increase in inflation from February to March of this year as markets reacted to the war. But many thought Biden was saying 70 percent of inflation over the past year stemmed from the war. That is not the case. Even after taking out the energy hit, the annual rate in March would have been over 7 percent, still easily wiping out wage gains running around 5 percent. So-called core inflation was at 6.2 percent in April.

Wade, Roberts would have to convince at least one of his five Republican-appointed colleagues to sign on to a compromise ruling that would preserve a federal constitutional right to abortion in some form while giving states even more power to restrict that right.”
