When you add the two together you get 34% who are watching it at least somewhat closely and the other 66% are not paying much attention at all.
Now people might point to the fact that 58% in this poll believe that the President should be charged with a crime, but the problem is that 54% said the same thing "prior" to the hearings. So as pointed out in the story, that is literally a margin of error difference and may be statistical noise. Certainly it is not a huge "bump" in that number and it might actually dip if the hearings do not live up to the "smoking gun" expectations many have given it.
And to be clear... as much as your MSM and others have pounded the idea of criminal charges down the throats of Americans, even giving them Prime Time to provide a one sided banana republic style storm trooper trial with no defense or rebuttal allowed... this is not a surprise. If you take this at face value, has any American citizen in the history of our country been subjected to what is a public trial where there is no objective Judge to preside, no opposing counsel to object or cross examine, and the defendant himself is not allowed to present a case?
If anyone can point to another American in the 250 plus years of our American judicial system who has been subjected to this (not to mention a 2 year fake investigation where the investigators knew it was fake) and two impeachments that were completely outside the congressional norms... I would love to hear the name. But right now, nobody has been subjected to this sort of attack.
But at the end of the day... apparently less than 10% are willing to follow this "very closely" and I suspect based on the television ratings that at least half of those are not actually watching the hearings.

58% of Americans think Donald Trump should be charged with a crime for his role in the January 6 Capitol riot.
In addition,
58% of Americans think Trump bears a “great deal” or a “good amount” of responsibility for the attack on the Capitol.

THE JAN 6 committee is conducting a "trial"* "with no defense or rebuttal allowed" and "the defendant himself is not allowed to present a case."
That can be easily remedied, Ch:
Let Trump himself appear before the committee and make his defense. I'm sure he would be afforded a wonderful opportunity to answer questions and make statements under oath.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said that he believes Donald Trump’s actions surrounding the deadly riots on January 6 amount to “seditious conspiracy” and “criminal involvement by a president,” The Guardian reports.
