Happy Monday

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has already helped block one of former President Donald Trump’s allies from winning the Republican nomination for governor in a crucial battleground state. Now he’s hoping for a repeat in his own backyard.

Ducey is part of a burgeoning effort among establishment Republicans to lift up little-known housing developer Karrin Taylor Robson against former television news anchor Kari Lake, who is backed by Trump. Other prominent Republicans, including former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, have also lined up behind Robson in recent days.

The push is reminiscent of how many leading Republicans rallied around Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in the final stretch of his ultimately successful bid to fend off a Trump-endorsed primary challenger.

Few states have been as central to Trump’s election lies as Georgia and Arizona, the two closest 2020 battlegrounds where he pushed aggressively to overturn the results and fumed when Kemp and Ducey refused to go along. Trump has already faced a setback in Georgia, and the Aug. 2 race in Arizona is among his last opportunities to settle scores and install allies to lead states that may prove decisive if he decides to run again in 2024.

How Steve Bannon’s Podcast Is Disrupting Democracy
July 18, 2022 at 6:50 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 5 Comments

CNN: “The show is a hefty contributor to a grassroots surge that is sending political neophytes to city councils, school boards, and state legislatures, as well as to the polls to oversee voting.

“But unlike other firebrand personalities, Bannon isn’t just tapping fear and resentment for ratings or money; he uses his show as a strategic vehicle."

Criminal Probe of Trump Could Complicate Jan. 6 Cases
July 18, 2022 at 6:41 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 12 Comments

“Attorney General Merrick Garland is under pressure to investigate Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection, but a move against the former president could complicate many of the hundreds of other criminal cases related to the storming of the Capitol,” Politico reports.

“Even if investigations into Trump and his inner circle are expanded — a slew of grand jury subpoenas and search warrants in recent weeks suggest prosecutors are circling his allies — the momentous decision about whether to charge Trump with a crime is months away, if not longer.”

Pence Endorses Robson for Arizona Governor
July 18, 2022 at 6:35 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 12 Comments

“Former Vice President Mike Pence is endorsing Republican Karrin Taylor Robson in the Arizona governor’s race, pitting himself against Donald Trump in a primary that is emerging as a proxy fight between the former president and Republicans who resisted his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results,” Politico reports.

“It represents the latest breach in the relationship between Trump and Pence, and it’s the second time the two have collided in a primary. And Pence is slated to campaign for Robson on Friday — creating a dramatic split-screen moment opposite Trump, who is set to hold a rally for his endorsed candidate, former local TV news anchor Kari Lake, the same day.”

Texas Power Plants Are Running Nonstop
July 18, 2022 at 7:36 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Bloomberg: “As searing Texas heat drives power demand to record highs, the state’s grid operator is ordering plants to run at a historic pace, often forcing them to put off maintenance to keep cranking out electricity. That’s helped keep the lights on, for now, but the short-term focus is putting even more stress on a system that’s already stretched near the limit.”

“Twice in the past week, officials have called on Texans to limit electricity use during scorching afternoons as demand inched perilously close to overwhelming supply. Now, there are growing concerns over how long power plants can maintain the grueling pace as they run nonstop.”

Where Inflation Goes from Here
July 18, 2022 at 7:31 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 2 Comments

Former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers:

“One of these months it will turn out to have peaked, but core inflation is now running more than three times as rapidly as its target level, and that entirely excludes energy and food commodities. Inflation will come down at some point, but it is unlikely to be a soft landing without economic pain.”

“I don’t think there’s any reason to expect a recession of the magnitude that we had after Covid struck or with the financial crisis of 2008. I think the recessions of 1990–1991 and 2001 are better models. But if inflation is to be contained, unemployment is likely to rise to somewhere in the vicinity of 6 percent or more. That would be my uncertain best guess.”

Video: Man Shot by Police Draws Protests, Then His Victim Shows Up And Things Got Pretty Awkward

People gathered outside the Minneapolis apartment Saturday where 20-year-old Andrew ‘Tekle’ Sundberg was shot and killed by Minneapolis police. Demonstrators joined family members as they demanded more answers from law enforcement.

Two Minneapolis police snipers shot and killed Sundberg Thursday morning following a 6-hour long standoff.

The BCA, the top law enforcement agency in the state, is investigating the deadly use of police force. It still remains unclear what exactly prompted the officers to shoot.

According to investigators, Sundberg fired multiple gunshots inside the Seward neighborhood apartment building Wednesday night, and a neighbor, Arabella Yarbrough, called 911 saying a bullet went through her wall.

Yarbrough interrupted the demonstration Saturday as the group was getting ready to start the rally. She said she felt threatened by Sundberg and feared for her and her children’s lives that night.

“He tried to kill me in front of my kids,” she said.

It’s astonishing that these protesters would speak to the victim that way. I understand they have their own viewpoint (and I’ll discuss that in a moment), but to address the person who was nearly killed by Sundberg in such a fashion is appalling. Telling her that the bullets were “not in you though” and “this is not the time” as she tries to add important context to the event is a case study of how, so often, these protesters want nothing to do with facts that might counter their narrative.
Sundberg’s parents attended the rally and sympathized with Yarbrough.

“I wish I could wrap my arms around her and tell her I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry she had to experience that I’m so sorry for her pain,” Cindy Sundberg said.

An unprecedented heat wave is underway in France and the U.K. that is likely to topple all-time national high temperature records and potentially kill several thousand people. The scorching heat is moving north into a more vulnerable region after tormenting Spain and Portugal.

Why it matters: This is a climate change-related public health emergency. Already, hundreds are dead from heat-related causes in Portugal and Spain and the toll is likely to climb much further.

The big picture: The U.K. Met Office is forecasting the country's first-ever occurrence of 104°F (40°C) temperatures during this event, with a high of 97°F Monday.

The U.K.'s national temperature record stands at 101.66°F (38.7°C) set in 2019. That is likely to fall as early as Monday.Meteo France is predicting even higher temperatures in that country Monday, as the heat peaks there. The air mass responsible for this extreme event originated in northwest Africa, with a heat dome and an area of low pressure just west of Iberia acting as a heat funnel.

After a Texas school shooting, conservatives blamed ‘woke’ programs once approved by Republicans

In 2018, GOP politicians promoted social and emotional education as a tool to stop mass shootings. Now some conservative activists are arguing those programs are not a solution to school violence, but a cause.

This spring, thousands of residents in the Mansfield Independent School District received political mailers that blamed a recent school shooting on “woke” school policies, inflaming partisan divides ahead of a heated school board election.

Fighting back against COVID and Climate Change tyranny

By Andrea Widburg

The phrase “New World Order” (“NWO”) is a loaded term. For starters, the people who are pushing for a single world government prefer to call it “The Great Reset.” Additionally, NWO sounds like the ultimate conspiracy theory, complete with indivisible dots, imaginary lines, and tin foil hats. And yet there’s no doubt that the self-anointed elites across the world have coalesced around a single vision that involves ending fossil fuel and achieving total control over individuals to “protect” them from COVID. Still, people across the globe are pushing back and one group has a global vision of what this pushback can look like.

During COVID’s first two years, we learned that most First World governments happily embraced tyranny. Even in the face of mountains of evidence that the lockdowns and mask and vaccine mandates did nothing to improve the situation, governments not only didn’t stop, but they also dug in deeper, systematically taking away people’s rights.

No person embodied this more than Canada’s Justin Trudeau, who went from fuzzy tree hugger to steely-eyed tyrant overnight. Canada is still in deep lockdown mode, right there with China, with millions of gleeful fascist apparatchiks happily imposing the government’s diktats

Washington Post reporter Carol Leonnig, the author of a 2021 book chronicling many reckless security missteps and coverups by the Secret Service, pointed to Ornato as a critical person in interviews and in another book she released last year (this time with her colleague Philip Rucker). In I Alone Can Fix It, Leonnig and Rucker quote Keith Kellog, a senior official in the Trump White House, recalling an important conversation with Ornato as Pence fled the Senate chambers for a secure location:

Around this time, Kellogg ran into Tony Ornato in the West Wing. Ornato, who oversaw Secret Service movements, told him that Pence’s detail was planning to move the vice president to Joint Base Andrews.

“You can’t do that, Tony,” Kellogg said. “Leave him where he’s at. He’s got a job to do. I know you guys too well. You’ll fly him to Alaska if you have a chance. Don’t do it.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Last month, Rep. Stephanie Murphy told NBC, “Ornato did not have as clear of memories from this period of time as I would say Ms. Hutchinson did.” Rep. Adam Kinzinger was more blunt when he echoed complaints from other Trump staffers about Ornato and tweeted, “There seems to be a major thread here. . . . Tony Ornato likes to lie.”

So what’s the real story?

Watch for congressional investigators to probe these matters in the days and weeks ahead—hoping to learn whether anything significant was in the missing text messages, and whether there are deeper problems at the Secret Service.

Put another way: Who or what is the Secret Service really protecting? The president and the vice president, as the highest constitutional officers? Donald Trump? Or itself?

LOOK WHAT HAS BECOME OF THE GOP:

GOP May Nominate Christian Nationalist in Maryland

July 18, 2022 at 10:17 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 12 Comments

Michael Peroutka (R), who is running for Maryland Attorney General, “believes public education is a communist plot, abortion and gay marriage violate God’s law, and the concept of separation of church and state is a ‘great lie,'” Vice News reports.

“His views are extreme even for the modern Republican Party, and once would be considered disqualifying for any major party nominee for statewide office. But his emergence as a serious candidate shows just how far the door has been thrown open to extremism in the Republican Party. The GOP base’s embrace of election falsehoods and anti-science COVID-19 conspiracy theories, and flirtation with white supremacist rhetoric has given once- fringe figures like Peroutka an opening to push into the political mainstream.

“To be clear, Peroutka has not changed. But the party base that’s embracing him has.”

Abortion Fight Moves to Least Favorable Terrain for GOP
July 18, 2022 at 9:53 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 54 Comments

“Republicans hoped public backlash to the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade would soon fade from the spotlight, and campaign season would once again turn to the prices of gas and groceries,” the Washington Post reports.

“But over the past week, the abortion debate has focused on terrain least favorable to the GOP — whether the procedure should be legal in the instances of rape and incest, as many conservatives push for bans without those two exceptions.”

AXIOS
Focus groups: Wisconsin swing voters say Trump guilty for Jan. 6
Alexi McCammond

The House select committee's Jan. 6 hearings are cementing the views of some voters who once backed former Predident Trump and now believe he should face criminal prosecution, according to our latest Axios Engagious/Schlesinger focus groups.

Driving the news:
10 of 14 Wisconsin swing voters last week said Trump should be prosecuted for trying to overturn the 2020 election and his role in the attack on the Capitol; 10 of 13 Arizona swing voters in panels last month said the same.

Why it matters:
The findings follow bombshell testimony by former White House aides and lawyers. Committee members have previewed forthcoming revelations about potential witness tampering.

The focus groups track with national polling showing more than half of Americans believe Trump should face criminal charges.

How it works:
Engagious/Schlesinger conducted two online focus groups on Tuesday with 14 Wisconsinites who voted for Trump in 2016 then Joe Biden in 2020. They included 12 independents, one Democrat and one Republican.

While a focus group is not a statistically significant sample like a poll, the responses show how some voters are thinking and talking about current events.

Details:
Eight participants said they've watched at least part of the Jan. 6 hearings so far. Several said the hearings were helpful for "accountability" but that the committee already has "their proof" of what happened that day.

Those who thought Trump should face criminal prosecution didn't relent even when the moderator pushed back and said doing so would be unprecedented, potentially putting future presidents at risk of being prosecuted for political reasons.

Voters were adamant that such a move would help deter similar attempts by anyone else in the future to "overthrow the government."

What they're saying:
"He's our president and a president should have never done anything to provoke what happened. Many people were injured. Look at how many lives you put at stake because you were allowing this to happen. And he was happy about it," said Samantha O., 39.

Andrew R., 59, said: "We have to show other people that this just can't be done in the future. [Prosecution] is going to be the price to pay if you try to do a coup again — and that's exactly what it was, a coup."

Others likened what happened that day to the politics of "third-world countries."

36-year-old Jaime M. said what happened on Jan. 6 "was too extreme, and something needs to be done about it to prevent it from ever happening again," otherwise "it just opens a floodgate for what anybody else is allowed to do."

Another voter said criminally prosecuting Trump would ensure that “the credibility of the justice system
is upheld."

“Ironically, most of these Wisconsin swing voters think the president who led chants of ‘lock her up’ should himself be locked up for his actions on Jan. 6,” said Rich Thau, president of Engagious, who moderated the focus groups.

What to watch:
These voters have more than just Jan. 6 on their minds. Many said that federal gun legislation was a top-three priority for them this cycle, but several others told us their vote in November won't be affected by the issue of abortion.

They barely knew much about Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), but those who do know him weren't very happy. One voter said he is "a puppet of Trump" and another said "he pretends to care" just to "gain popularity."

All but two said they neither want Trump nor President Biden to run for president again in 2024.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

You really don't believe in science about things you don't like that some Republicans say.

Residents told not to venture outside. Salt trucks spraying sand on roads to stop them melting. Doctors pausing medical operations. Rail authorities warning tracks could buckle. Experts saying hundreds or thousands could die in the heat.

This is not the intro to a dystopian sci-fi novel but present-day Britain. The country descended into a dangerous heatwave Monday, with forecasts of 105 degrees that would make it hotter than 98% of the planet's surface.

Meanwhile, wildfires continued to rage across continental Europe, with authorities battling to control blazes across France, Greece, Italy and elsewhere. In Spain and Portugal, more than 1,000 deaths have been attributed to their brutal, week-long heatwave.

So 70% of the people who decided they didn't like Trump and voted for Biden also believe that he committed crimes?

Interesting... if they fell out of favor with Trump and fell for the Biden lies about being a better President... then it's not much of a reach that they would fall for the "he committed a crime" rhetoric.

What does that tell us? Not much, imho. Other than the gullible nature of Trump hating Biden voters.

Re "These people are very insane"

ACTIVE resistance against the criminal establishments around the world will greatly increase the sooner someone TRULY understands that the ruling cabal and their minions (in governments, big corporations, etc), anywhere around the globe, are PSYCHOPATHS -- the evidence is OVERWHELMING and TOTALLY IRREFUTABLE --- see “The 2 Married Pink Elephants In The Historical Room”... https://www.rolf-hefti.com/covid-19-coronavirus.html

Isn't it about time for anyone to wake up to the ULTIMATE DEPTH of the rabbit hole --- rather than remain blissfully willfully ignorant and play victim like a little child?

By "TRULY understands" I mean that Hollywood flicks and the corrupt entertainment industry at large have presented a deliberately erroneous picture of psychopaths which keeps the public misinformed about what and who psychopaths really are (eg most psychopaths are not overtly violent) but they are ALWAYS exploiters, deceivers, liars, manipulators, and destroyers (the Highly Destructive Fake Covid "Pandemic" is ONE fitting example out of countless others) and therefore they are NOT people to ever respect, listen to, admire, vote for, follow and obey BUT to ACTIVELY fight and jail for life.

A perceptive 12-year old can see, and could see FROM THE START, that Covid-19 has nothing to do with real science (ie, it's a GIANT scam). WHY can't most adults see it, even NOW some 2 plus years later? See cited source above for the answer...
