Bidenomics in full display

Inflation rose 9.1% in June, even more than expected, as consumer pressures intensify
Shoppers paid sharply higher prices for a variety of goods in June as inflation kept its hold on a slowing U.S. economy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. The consumer price index, a broad measure of everyday goods and services related to the cost of living, soared 9.1% from a year ago, above the 8.8% Dow Jones estimate. That marked another month of the fastest pace for inflation going back to November 1981.
Excluding volatile food and energy prices, so-called core CPI increased 5.9%, compared with the 5.7% estimate. Core inflation peaked at 6.5% in March and has been nudging down since. On a monthly basis, headline CPI rose 1.3% and core CPI was up 0.7%, compared to respective estimates of 1.1% and 0.5%.

The report showed few signs of relief from higher prices. Costs were up broadly across the economy, with gasoline far outpacing other categories with an 11.2% gain over the prior month. Gasoline prices have been on a downward path in recent weeks. Shelter and food price increases were also major contributors to inflation, the Labor Department said.

Unfortunately , despite the President really has not caused this situation, he gets blamed.

Understand this, the interest rate is simply the “cost of money” or the price you pay to use it. Raising interest rates doesn’t necessarily cure inflation. Inflation isn’t “tamed”. Not close.

Inflation is caused by the government creating and spending too much money.

Has the US government slowed down? Nope. Have the effects of the various upticks in spending due to Covid and the big Biden spend in March of 2021 worn off yet? No.

Yesterday the President’s press secretary informed the Industrial Media Complex that the CPI number was backward-looking and that the Putin Price Hike is still in the economy. She’s trying to make you look away.

FAR MORE IMPORTANT IS THIS CLARIFICATION:

It’s Not Joe Manchin Who’s Trying to Undermine Biden

July 13, 2022 at 12:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 10 Comments

Jonathan Chait:
“Joe Manchin has absorbed most of the heat from liberals angry that the Senate has often blocked President Biden’s proposals. But Manchin represents an overwhelmingly Republican state, and he has been willing to negotiate a meaningful (albeit smaller) Senate reconciliation package that would move forward key progressive goals.

“The true archvillain of the Biden presidency is Josh Gottheimer, a New Jersey Democrat who keeps sticking the knife in Biden’s back.

“Gottheimer is organizing a small faction of House Democrats to present a ‘counteroffer’ that would blow up the incipient deal with Manchin. The Gottheimer crew wants TO TAKE OUT THE TAX HIKES ON THE WEALTHY that Manchin is proposing. That would mean what’s left of the bill could still contain the spending proposals, BUT IT WOLD LACK THE REVENUE MEASURES that would make it a deficit-reducer, which is MANCHIN’S MAIN RATIONALE FOR SUPPORTING THE BILL in the first place. If that revenue is gone, Manchin’s support probably collapses, and the bill dies. Which is probably FINE WITH GOTTHEIMER, WHO MAY BE EVIL, but isn’t stupid.”
__________

IN OTHER WORDS, GOTTHEIMER IS A SHILL OF THE GOP, A DIMO (DEMOCRAT IN NAME ONLY), WHO WANTS TO KOWTOW TO THE WEALTHY REPUBLICAN RICH WHO SUPPORT A CORRUPT FORM OF RIGHT WING EXTREMISM CONSISTING OF GOVERNMENT OF, BY, AND FOR THE RICH, THE WEALTHY, THE CORPORATIONS -- NOT GOVERNMENT OF, BY, AND FOR THE GREATER MASSES OF THE PEOPLE, THE WORKERS, THE MIDDLE CLASS, AND THE POOR.

Democratic Cities Seek Ways Around Abortion Bans
July 13, 2022 at 12:16 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 6 Comments

“Democratic-controlled cities within Republican states have launched improvisational efforts to preserve abortion services, even as officials acknowledge they will probably fall short of protecting doctors and patients sufficiently to serve as a substitute for a constitutional right to the procedure,” the Washington Post reports.

“Dozens of big-city prosecutors, mostly in the South and Midwest, have said they will not file charges against medical workers who conduct abortions or their patients. Taken together, the steps do not amount to an affirmative right, but they could make the penalties for abortion more hypothetical than Republicans running the prosecutors’ states would prefer as they invoke bans on the procedure.”

Trump’s Lawyers Think Mark Meadows Is Going Down
July 13, 2022 at 11:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 235 Comments

Donald Trump’s inner circle increasingly views Mark Meadows “as a likely fall guy for the former president’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election,”
Rolling Stone reports.

“Members of Trump’s legal team are actively planning planning certain strategies around Meadows’ downfall — including possible criminal charges. Trump has himself begun the process of distancing himself from some of his onetime senior aide’s alleged actions*** around Jan. 6.

“Meadows’ already bleak legal prospects could get even worse. Rolling Stone has learned that the Jan. 6 committee has been quietly probing his financial dealings, and any new revelations would add to an already long list of unethical and potential illegal actions he’s accused of taking on behalf of Donald Trump.”

Trump Escalates Attacks on Elon Musk

“Former President Donald Trump continued his war of words with billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday, saying he could have made Musk drop to his knees,” Fox News reports.

Said Trump: “When Elon Musk came to the White House asking me for help on all of his many subsidized projects, whether it’s electric cars that don’t drive long enough, driverless cars that crash, or rocketships to nowhere, without which subsidies he’d be worthless, and telling me how he was a big Trump fan and Republican, I could have said, ‘drop to your knees and beg,’ and he would have done it."

The hottest inflation in four decades will force the Federal Reserve to take such extreme actions to tame prices that policymakers advertently drag the U.S. economy into a deep recession, according to Bank of America analysts.

In a Friday note, the bank's strategists said market pricing suggests inflation will fall to or below the Fed's 2% target within the next two years – but that a major economic downturn is needed in order for that to happen.

To me it looks like Meadows thought an election audit would be successful and Trump would be declared the winner

If you give it some honest thought...

The recent court decision in Wisconsin confirms that Wisconsin did not follow their own election laws and that the Wisconsin Legislature could have refused to allow the certification of those results had they gotten that decision in a timely manner. In fact, there could be a pretty good argument that legislation would have almost been "required" to block certification for the results of an illegally run election.

Unfortunately one of those Judges who was in the majority of the recent decision - voted against taking the case back in 2020 because of time constraints.

Not to mention that there were other issues at hand in the original lawsuit that were never addressed and not settled.

So for people suggesting that Meadows (and others) had no reason to believe that their challenges were invalid goes right back to the Scott Adams example of 2020 gaslighting.

You can prove something doesn't exist by not looking for it.

Jonathan Bernstein:
“It’s not unusual for a lot of what happens in congressional hearings to be scripted; indeed, it’s pretty normal.

"But even when partisanship is minimized and members are cooperative (and yes, even in these days of partisan polarization, there’s plenty of cooperation),
representatives almost always read off their own individual scripts, with no more than halting coordination even within the parties.

"For a hearing to be centrally scripted … that’s highly unusual.

“Some of this would have been possible had there been additional, dissenting Republicans on the committee.
But it would have been a lot harder.

"Even if the other Republicans had been pro-democracy and acted in good faith — unlikely, but let’s suppose — they probably would have appealed to the impulse of many journalists to hold both parties responsible for any disputes that break out.

“More likely, they would have deliberately provoked fights to make the story about committee squabbling, rather than the evidence presented.

"They also could have selectively leaked things from the depositions to take the steam out of the hearings.

"But even just adding minority member time would have broken up the force and the effectiveness of the presentations.”

“A Columbus man has been charged with impregnating a 10-year-old Ohio girl, whose travel to Indiana to seek an abortion led to international attention following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade and activation of Ohio’s abortion law,”
the Columbus Dispatch reports.

“The criminal charges and testimony from the Columbus detective confirms the disturbing story that has become a key flash point in the national furor over the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”

Taegan Goddard:
"The arrest comes just days after Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost (R) suggested the rape never happened."

Bank of America Corp. economists forecast a “mild recession this year” in the US, saying services spending is slowing and hot inflation is spurring consumers to pull back.

“A number of forces have coincided to slow economic momentum more rapidly than we previously expected,” analysts led by Michael Gapen, who recently joined the firm as head of US economics, said in a report Wednesday. These include inflation from food and energy prices that leave households with less available for discretionary purchases, and tighter financial conditions, with higher mortgage rates denting affordability.

Gasoline prices that surged in recent months have reversed course in July, giving consumers a welcome break.

Gasoline was a major reason that U.S. consumer prices were 9.1 percent higher in June than a year earlier, the biggest annual increase in four decades. But now gas prices have declined 28 days in a row, the longest decline since the collapse in energy demand in early 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic paralyzed the economy. Energy analysts say American consumers are spending $140 million less on gasoline daily than they were a month ago.

The trend could easily reverse, especially if a hurricane knocks out a refinery on the Gulf Coast, since global oil supplies remain fairly tight. But for the moment, the nation’s inventories are slowly growing, in part because of continuing releases of oil by the government from its strategic oil reserves and reduced consumption

Exclusive: Jan. 6 committee heard more evidence from earlier witnesses after Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), a member of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, revealed that since former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson appeared in a public hearing, more evidence has been gathered by witnesses willing to come forward.

Speaking to Raw Story, Aguilar explained that not only have they had more people willing to come forward, but "people who we had previously heard from have shared more."

He explained that they're continuing to gather evidence, adding kudos to the committee staff members working diligently to collect this additional information.

Rep. Liz Cheney's (R-WY) revealed Tuesday that former President Donald Trump called another witness, even after it was revealed others were intimidated by third-party individuals in Trump's circle. This could be an indication that Trump's lawyers don't have a hold on him the way that they thought. Aguilar didn't get the sense that Trump's lawyers ever had a hold on someone like Pat Cipollone the way that it appears they did on Hutchinson, who had Trump's PAC paying for her lawyer until she got a new one.

"We intend to share more," said Aguilar. "The scale and the scope, we're still working through. But, we want it to be something that people can digest and understand and find value in helping us protect democracy."

Killing opinion piece πŸ‘Œ

One thing that is clear after eight hearings: Pelosi was correct to veto the Republican attempt to add committee members who were deeply involved in Trump’s plotting. But that still left McCarthy with plenty of options, including strong Trump supporters who didn’t get involved in planning to overturn the election and, in doing so, to overthrow the legitimate US government.

Because if there’s one thing that’s been obvious starting on Election Day 2020 and is even more obvious now that we’ve seen hours of evidence, not to mention 18 months of Trump's public behavior, that overthrowing the government is exactly what Trump and his allies were attempting to do. Unfortunately, it seems that there are only two Republicans in the entire House of Representatives willing to side with democracy and against the former president. But they’ve made the committee a lot more effective.

Almost a century ago, on Valentine’s Day of 1929, there was a massacre of mobsters in Chicago by a gang armed with machine guns who were pretending to serve as police officers. Their leader was sunning himself in Florida, where some criminal masterminds like to spend their down time.

Al Capone was not prosecuted and jailed for his hand in the Valentine’s Day massacre. He was jailed for tax evasion, after refusing a subpoena to appear before a grand jury.

Trump should face the same situation and die in his jail cell.

During a hearing on "abortion access and the law," Hice, one of several outspoken characters in the Peach State's right-wing caucus, asked if pregnant people ever deliver "something" that is not a homosapien.

"Is there any instance of a woman giving birth to something that is not a human being, a baby, like, a turtle, or as our First Lady suggested, a breakfast taco," Hice asked. "I mean, is there any instance where other than a human being has been born?"

Why is inflation in the US so high?

The Covid-19 pandemic strapped the US economy on to a rollercoaster. In early 2020, nationwide lockdowns caused millions of Americans to be temporarily laid off from their jobs. Then president Donald Trump responded by signing a $2tn aid package aimed at directly helping businesses and individuals, including stimulus checks that put money directly into people’s pockets. It would ultimately be the first of three stimulus packages, together pumping an eye-watering $5tn into the economy.

Just a reminder to Scott about the insurrection on January 6th.

Scott said claimed that the riot at the Capitol on 6 January 2021 was a peaceful protest against his election defeat that spun out of control in the heat of the moment. Nine deaths are linked to the attack and its aftermath.

But Tuesday’s hearing revealed evidence that the president planned in advance to send supporters, who he knew were armed, marching on the Capitol.

The panel showed a draft tweet, obtained from the National Archives, calling on supporters to arrive early for a rally and to expect crowds.

“March to the Capitol after. Stop the Steal!” the draft tweet said.

There were also fresh details about planning for Trump’s rally on the Ellipse outside the White House as aides scrambled to set up a second stage outside the Capitol complex, across the street from the supreme court.
_________

When he said to go to the Capital building and stop the Steal. They left the White House area and tried to hang Mike Pence .
