Mitt Romney:

“President Joe Biden is a genuinely good man, but he has yet been unable to break through our national malady of denial, deceit, and distrust. A return of Donald Trump would feed the sickness, probably rendering it incurable. Congress is particularly disappointing: Our elected officials put a finger in the wind more frequently than they show backbone against it. Too often, Washington demonstrates the maxim that for evil to thrive only requires good men to do nothing.”

“I hope for a president who can rise above the din to unite us behind the truth. Several contenders with experience and smarts stand in the wings; we intently watch to see if they also possess the requisite character and ability to bring the nation together in confronting our common reality. While we wait, leadership must come from fathers and mothers, teachers and nurses, priests and rabbis, businessmen and businesswomen, journalists and pundits. That will require us all to rise above ourselves — above our grievances and resentments — and grasp the mantle of leadership our country so badly needs.”

We don’t have a fair system of “Justice” in this Country anymore. The way they are treating me & my supporters, compared to what happens to those “on the other side,” is like day & night. It has been this way for a long time, but never like it is today! All semblance of a “FAIR & BALANCED” Media to look over, study, and report on what is going on in our Country is GONE! Fight on, America, Fight On! (Oh, I’m sorry. By using the word FIGHT, they will say I am inciting an Insurrection. Apologies!).

The shooting comes at a tense moment for the nation, still reeling from the massacres in Buffalo, New York, where a gunman killed 10 people in a racist attack on a grocery store, and in Uvalde, Texas, where a gunman killed 19 elementary school students and two teachers.

Last month, Joe Biden signed into law a bipartisan gun bill crafted in the wake of the attacks intended to keep dangerous individuals from obtaining firearms while bolstering investments in the nation’s mental health system. The legislation, while modest, was celebrated as a major breakthrough after nearly three decades of gridlock in Washington over how to address gun violence in the US.

Advocates applauded the measure, but said it was far from enough. Monday’s shooting at the Independence Day parade in Highland Park is likely to renew calls for more aggressive action to prevent mass shootings in America, which continue to occur at a shocking rate.

Meanwhile the location of the shooting – near Chicago, which has a high rate of gun violence and in Illinois, which has strict gun laws – will likely fuel conservative talking points that Chicago is “proof” that gun laws don’t work are misguided. But those claims are misguided, experts say.

Illinois shares borders states that have weak gun laws, such as Indiana and Wisconsin, and studies have found that a substantial percentage of the guns recovered at crime scenes in Chicago – a majority, according to a 2017 analysis by one estimation, were purchased in other states.

The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life. Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together.

Mayor Nancy Rotering said the violence “has shaken us to our core,” adding, “On a day that we came together to celebrate community and freedom, we are instead mourning the tragic loss of life and struggling with the terror that was brought upon us.”

The shooting occurred at a spot on the parade route where many residents had staked out prime viewing points early in the day for the annual celebration. Dozens of fired bullets sent hundreds of parade-goers — some visibly bloodied — fleeing. They left a trail of abandoned items that showed everyday life suddenly, violently disrupted: A half-eaten bag of potato chips; a box of chocolate cookies spilled onto the grass; a child’s Chicago Cubs cap.

“There’s no safe place,” said Highland Park resident Barbara Harte, 73, who had stayed away from the parade fearing a mass shooting, but later ventured from her home.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said at a news conference “several of the deceased victims” died at the scene and one was taken to a hospital and died there. Police have not released details about the victims or wounded.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said the five people killed at the parade were adults and she doesn’t have information on the sixth victim who was taken to a hospital and died there.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The shooting comes as the United States struggles to stem a surge in gun violence and after a string of recent deadly incidents, including a massacre at a Texas primary school, spurred calls for stricter gun regulations.

Monday’s shooting in Highland Park, a community of about 30,000 residents some 40km (25 miles) north of Chicago, sent hundreds of parade attendees – some visibly bloodied – fleeing, with many leaving behind chairs, baby strollers and blankets.

Witnesses described seeing bloodied bodies covered with blankets.

The Chicago Sun-Times newspaper reported that the parade began around 10am local time (15:00 GMT) but was suddenly halted 10 minutes later after shots were fired. Police told people: “Everybody disperse, please. It is not safe to be here.”

More than a dozen officers, some armed with rifles, have surrounded the home of Robert E Crimo III, a 22-year-old man who goes by “Bobby” who was identified as a person of interest by officials earlier today.

With a large armored truck blocking the road near the residence, access has been cut off to the tree-lined neighborhood, the Associated Press reports.

FBI at Highwood, IL, home right now about a mile and a half from Highland Park shooting scene. Neighbor tells me Robert “Bobby” Crimo III lives here with family.

Robert “Bobby” Crimo III has been arrested

A person of interest has been arrested after a manhunt that spanned hours following a mass shooting during a Fourth of July parade in a Chicago suburb that left 6 dead and roughly 2 dozen people injured. Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, who was identified by authorities as a person of interest was apprehended on Monday evening not far from the parade route, according to Highland Park police. Reportedly, charges have not yet been filed.

The shooter targeted the Independence Day festivities from a rooftop, and officials believe he used a high-powered rifle, which was later recovered at the scene. Little is known about his motives and police called the tragedy a “random act of violence”.

The afternoon of celebration turned to chaos when shots erupted along the parade route, as parade-goers fled, leaving overturned chairs, abandoned picnic blankets, and the American flags that were blithely being waved, behind. Leaders and analysts were quick to make the connection between one of America’s cherished pastimes being destroyed by a horrendous yet distinctively American problem.

“It is devastating that a celebration of America was ripped apart by our uniquely American plague,” Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker said at a press conference. In a statement he added that “there no words for the kind of monster who lies in wait and fires into a crowd of families and children celebrating a holiday with their community,” and that the state was grieving with families who lost loved ones. Noting that grief and prayers were not enough, he promised to “end this plague of gun violence”.

He also has tattoos on his hands.

The rapper released a cryptic track called “Are You Awake” on Oct. 15, 2021. The track appears to suggest that Crimo was planning a life-defining act beyond his ability to stop. The video includes drawings of a man aiming a rifle at another person.

The video also includes an image of a newspaper clipping about Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated President John F. Kennedy, and another image of a victim shot with blood spraying from the body. [….]

“Like a sleepwalker, I am unable to stop and think,” he says in the track. “My actions will be valiant and my thought is unnecessary. I know what I have to do, I know what’s in it, not only for me, but for everyone else.”

“There is no past or future, just the now,” he adds. “It is more abstract than I can ever imagine. I can feel the atmosphere pushing me in. It’s unstoppable, like a wave pulling me under, I can’t breathe without it.”

“I need to leave now, I need to just do it. It is my destiny, everything has led up to this,” Crimo says. “Nothing can stop me, not even myself. Is there such thing as free will, or has this been planned out, like a cosmic recipe?”

“It is what I’ve been waiting for in the back of my head, ready to be awakened, It is what I’ve been sent here to do, like a sleepwalker,” he adds.

Do we remember when Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), another 2020 presidential hopeful, railed that, “My testosterone sometimes makes me want to feel like punching him [Trump], which would be bad for this elderly, out-of-shape man that he is if I did that. This physically weak specimen.”

Robert De Niro similarly announced that he had his sights on Trump, “I’d like to punch him in the face.”

Do such threats have consequences? Maybe. On the day Trump was inaugurated, Madonna incited a crowd outside the White House by warning that she had thought of blowing up the White House. Comedian Kathy Griffin trumped that in a video in which she held up a facsimile of a decapitated Trump head.

Few today remember James Hodgkinson—a former Bernie Sanders campaign worker—and his 2017 attempt to assassinate Republican congressmen at a practice for a charity baseball game.

So yes, let us fear that democracy is dying in media darkness. Real insurrectionists are seeking to dismantle the Constitution, to end centuries-long customs and traditions, to justify the use of political violence, and to disobey all the laws they find inconvenient.

Right-wing site Breitbart defends assault weapons and attacks Highland Park hours after tragedy

Ray Hartmann

July 04, 2022

The right-wing extremist website Breitbart.com covered Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s angry response to the mass murder at a July 4th parade today that left six dead and 19 wounded in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park.

It began with straight news coverage of Pritzker’s remarks.

“Grief will not bring the victims back, and prayers alone will not put a stop to the terror of rampant gun violence in our country,” Pritzker said. “I will stand firm with Illinoisans and Americans: we must – and we will – end this plague of gun violence.”

That apparently was offensive enough to Breitbart editors that they ignored the Right’s “now is not the time to politicize this tragedy” trope invoked after countless acts of gun violence. In fact, Breitbart wasn’t about to let taste or respect for the grieving, shattered community get in its way.

“As Breitbart News previously reported, the local jurisdiction of Highland Park already “banned ‘assault weapons’ and magazines with more than ten rounds of ammunition” and that the “U.S. Supreme Court rejected a challenge to the law in 2015.” Legal analyst Ken Klukowski of Breitbart News wrote at the time of the decision that Highland Park ‘has a long track record of opposing citizens exercising the Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms’ through the banning of so-called ‘assault weapons.’

“Assault weapons are not an actual class of firearms,” Klukowski argued. “The term is often confused with ‘assault rifles,’ which are a class of firearms. But for most such bans, ‘assault weapons’ excludes some types of assault rifles and includes guns that are not assault rifles.”

Also, with no sense of shame or irony, Breitbart took a strange dig at the Illinois governor.

“Pritzker concluded his statement with a call to end the “terror of rampant gun violence in our country” while stopping short of any gun control policy prescriptions.”

As if Breitbart would cover them if he had.

Pat A. Cipollone, the White House counsel, warned that Mr. Trump should not go to the Capitol. “We’re going to get charged with every crime imaginable if we make that movement happen,” he said, according to Ms. Hutchinson.

Mr. Trump was undaunted. Waiting in a tent to address the crowd, he brushed off worries about violence. He criticized the Secret Service for screening supporters with magnetometers, standard procedure for a presidential event, and demanded that they be removed. “They’re not here to hurt me,” he said. “Take the f-ing mags away. Let my people in.”

Addressing the crowd, he declared that he would go with them to the Capitol. But when he climbed into his armored vehicle, the Secret Service refused to take him, citing his own security. According to what Ms. Hutchinson said she was later told by Anthony M. Ornato, a deputy White House chief of staff, Mr. Trump erupted in rage and demanded to go there.

They returned to the White House instead, where Mr. Trump stewed about being thwarted. As he watched television images of his supporters rampaging through the Capitol, he agreed with those in the crowd calling for Mr. Pence to be hanged.

Indeed, according to Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony, he was on the side of the mob. As she heard Mr. Meadows put it, “He doesn’t think they’re doing anything wrong.”

The American Prospect

Will America Be a Democracy Next July 4th?

The events of recent weeks could be an inflection point in the struggle to save our democracy. The key word here is ‘overreach.’

BY ROBERT KUTTNER JULY 4, 2022

This Independence Day marks a pivotal, enough-is-enough moment—in the popular reaction against the blend of Supreme Court excess,
state government overreach assaulting privacy,
and revulsion at the latest January 6th revelations about Donald Trump.

The result has been a startling shift in public opinion about Trump. About half of all Americans now think Trump should be charged with a crime. Most Republicans don’t want Trump to run in 2024.

The Supreme Court has also overreached one time too many. The full power of the backlash against the Dobbs ruling will take weeks and months, as all of the secondary effects become evident
—states in the role of Orwellian inquisitors;
ob/gyn doctors having to put their anti-abortion snooping ahead of the health of their patients;
restrictions on the right to travel.

An American fundamentalist version of the Taliban is now in charge of more than 20 state governments. Most ordinary people don’t want to live under an American Taliban.

These assaults on privacy and liberty will energize activists and also mobilize ordinary people. Polls now show about 60 percent of Americans oppose Dobbs. About 50 percent of Democrats say they are more likely to vote because of the ruling—but only 20 percent of Republicans.

We now have a war between the states, and also within the states,
as some cities and district attorneys in states with right-wing governments are refusing to cooperate;
and some state courts are finding that legislative attempts to ban abortion violate state constitutions.

So the table has been set for a very different sort of midterm election, which just might SPARE OUR COUNTRY FULL-ON FASCISM.

Cali weeps.

One thinks of the 1998 midterm, which was supposed to be a disaster for Democrats. Instead, it was the rare midterm in the sixth year of a presidency when the president’s party gained seats in both houses. Why? Because the Republicans overreached. They were obsessed with Monica Lewinsky and the voters were sick of it.

But it will not be enough for Democrats to expect that they will win back popular support simply by not being Republicans. They have to hang all this lunacy around the necks of their opponents, and give voters an affirmative reason to support them, especially on pocketbook issues where Republicans have been destroying the life chances of ordinary people even as they restrict personal liberties.

So far, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and too much of the party leadership are a long way from seizing the moment. But other candidates can seize it. If they do, and Biden responds to the increasing demands to act like more of a leader in this crisis, we may yet have a July 4th to celebrate next year and the years after.

Police seized alarming number of weapons on Capitol rioters, court documents show

Police have seized an alarming number of guns from President Trump’s supporters who descended on Washington, D.C., last week and stormed the Capitol in an effort to stop Congress’s certification of the 2020 election results.

The details revealed in court documents over the past week paint a disturbing picture indicating that some of the demonstrators flocked to the Capitol prepared to carry out violence. The cases, likely only the beginning of a lengthy federal investigation, also suggest that the riot that overran the halls of Congress and left five people dead could have been much worse.

One man, Lonnie Coffman, is facing multiple weapons charges after police say they found him in possession of five guns, eleven Molotov cocktails, a crossbow, smoke bombs and a stun gun.

Coffman was arrested only because police were investigating pipe bombs that were discovered near the Capitol at the Republican Party and Democratic Party headquarters and noticed one of the guns in his truck while securing the area....

In charging documents filed with the federal district court in D.C., police said they searched Coffman’s truck while sweeping the areas around the pipe bombs, finding the weapons along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a list of public officials and journalists that identified them as “good guys” and “bad guys.”

“In the end, this is a defendant with access to firearms and numerous other lethal weapons, dangerous incendiary mixtures creating napalm, who appears to have been motivated to conduct violence against our elected representatives,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing.

“The defendant brought these weapons to the immediate vicinity of the U.S. Capitol Building, and traveled to the area with two firearms on his person. The amount of weapons suggests an intent to provide them to others, as no one person could reasonably use so many at once,” they added.

A man named Cleveland Meredith, who traveled from Colorado in order to participate in the protests at the Capitol, was arrested at his hotel in D.C. last week after law enforcement received a tip that he had threatened to kill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Meredith told investigators that he mistakenly arrived in the District a day after the riot.

The FBI said in court documents that it found a handgun, an assault rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in Meredith’s trailer and text messages on his phone in which he talked about killing Pelosi and told a friend “headed to DC with a shit ton of 5.56 armor piercing ammo [purple devil emoji]”...

Another man, Christopher Alberts of Maryland, was arrested on the Capitol grounds as police were clearing the building when an officer noticed that he was carrying a pistol.

The defendants’ attorneys did not respond when asked for comment.

The gun charges that have emerged in court over the past week are only a fraction of the more than 70 cases that federal prosecutors have filed in the wake of the riot. And Justice Department officials have suggested that many more are likely to be charged in the coming days as their investigation unfolds.

It’s unclear just how many of the rioters were armed as they stormed the Capitol, forcing Vice President Pence to evacuate and hundreds of lawmakers to flee both chambers.

Those who have already been charged may be only a small percentage of the total number of armed rioters given the prevalence of firearms at right-wing demonstrations across the country in the past year.

And according to numerous media reports, there’s mounting evidence that the demonstration was organized in advance, with some Trump supporters discussing plans for violence online.

“All this bullshit about not bringing guns to D.C. needs to stop,” one Trump supporter wrote in an online forum, according to BuzzFeed. “This is America. Fuck D.C. it’s in the Constitution. Bring your goddamn guns.”

Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney for D.C., has said in recent days that investigators are only beginning what will likely be a lengthy probe into the debacle and that his office is exploring severe charges such as sedition for some of those who were involved.

“We’re looking at and treating this just like a significant international counterterrorism or counterintelligence operation,” Sherwin said at a press conference this week. “We’re looking at everything: money, travel records, looking at disposition, movement and communication records. So no resource related to the FBI or the U.S. attorney’s office will be unchecked in terms of trying to determine exactly if there was a command and control, how it operated and how they executed these activities.”

Joyce Vance, a former U.S. attorney in Alabama under the Obama administration, suggested that a priority for federal prosecutors will be those who may have helped incite and solicit violence as well as those who brought guns to the riot.

“Anytime you’ve got someone engaging in criminal activities who’s willing to take a gun along with them, they become that much more dangerous and that much more deserving of scrutiny from law enforcement,” Vance told The Hill.

She added that one of the more disturbing issues surrounding the riot is all the open questions about the mob and said it’s up to federal prosecutors to provide answers.

“We still don’t know the full scope of what happened,” Vance said. “There’s a lot that suggests that we narrowly avoided a really spectacularly horrible incident last Wednesday.
“We need our prosecutors and our law enforcement people to do their job and tell the country definitively what happened,” she added. “And then we need them to hold the people responsible accountable.”

For many, July 4 was also a chance to set aside political differences and to celebrate unity, reflecting on the revolution that gave rise to history’s longest-living democracy.

“There’s always something to divide or unite us,” says Eli Merritt, a political historian at Vanderbilt University whose upcoming book traces the fraught founding of the United States.

But he sees the Jan. 6 hearings probing last year’s storming of the U.S. Capitol as a reason for hope, an opportunity to rally behind democratic institutions. Even though not all Americans or their elected representatives agree with the committee’s work, Merritt is heartened by the fact that it’s at least somewhat bipartisan.

“Moral courage as a locus for Americans to place hope, the willingness to stand up for what is right and true in spite of negative consequences to oneself,” he said. “That is an essential glue of constitutional democracy.”

Highland Park shooter 'part of a new wave of terror' that advanced 'well past Donald Trump': extremism expert

Travis Gettys

July 05, 2022

The alleged gunman in the Highland Park massacre was photographed at Donald Trump rallies, but an expert on online extremism said he's part of a "new wave of terror" that doesn't appear to have a specific political motivation.

Robert "Bobby" Crimo III was taken into custody hours after the shooting that killed six people and wounded 38 others at an Illinois parade on the Fourth of July, and NBC News correspondent Ben Collins told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" what he had learned about the person of interest in the massacre.

"I will say that -- man, there's no other way to put this -- the one thing that combines all these things is ready access to weapons, and this guy had ready access to weapons," Collins said. "That's just the one thing. He had ready access to a machine that could kill a bunch of people in a short period of time. You're not going to be able to stop this on a rhetorical level."

"This guy, he posted on Spotify, on Discord, on a bunch of websites that you and I would never hear of," Collins continued. "He posted on Twitter, on YouTube, Instagram, posted everywhere he could post. Even if there was a consortium of people who worked at the private companies monitoring this stuff, you couldn't get them all. There's no way to get them all necessarily. Also, I want to say, like, you can't drill this down to one specific traditional political subculture. I know a lot of people want to point out he was a Donald Trump fan, there were pictures of him draped in a Trump flag outside of a Donald Trump motorcade."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

"This is part of a much larger, deeper subculture that Donald Trump is in the past of -- like, this guy grew up as a child and Donald Trump was the president, he's trying to advance the acceleration well past Donald Trump," Collins added. "He is part of a new wave of terror, and that's something we have to get our brains around right now. This is not tied to one guy. This is tied to a much larger cell of people who think they're lone wolves who are really acting in concert, to express their disaffection with the world by murdering a bunch of people. We have to stop that. I don't know how else to stop that."

Collins said limiting access to high-powered firearms must be part of that conversation, because the online networks that motivate mass shooters are simply too large.

"The one thing you can stop at the very end is the gun part, but we have to at least, you know, try to start to learn how people are getting to this point," he said. "Otherwise, we're going to come here every two weeks, guys, like every two weeks, we're going to be on this show talking about what's going to happen and how we can't stop this thing. We have to wrap our brains around this very new reality, where there are a bunch of different subcultures that are extremely violent."

White House Counting on GOP Overreach

NBC News:
“Unpopular presidents tend to fare poorly in midterm elections. But Biden-world sees an opening to defy the historical trends, springing from some of the same setbacks that have so angered the Democratic base.

“Republicans are overreaching in ways that will alienate voters, White House allies contend.

Said Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D):
“I can tell you that on the street, what you hear is a bubbling, seething cauldron of anger at the Republican Party for putting in these antediluvian judges who think they can take us back to the 18th century. My spidey sense and the polling indicate it’s going to help people decide not to vote for the red team.”

Natural Gas Soars 700%, Becoming Driving Force in the New Cold War

(Bloomberg) -- One morning in early June, a fire broke out at an obscure facility in Texas that takes natural gas from US shale basins, chills it into a liquid and ships it overseas. It was extinguished in 40 minutes or so. No one was injured.

It sounds like a story for the local press, at most — except that more than three weeks later, financial and political shockwaves are still reverberating across Europe, Asia and beyond.

That’s because natural gas is the hottest commodity in the world right now. It’s a key driver of global inflation, posting price jumps that are extreme even by the standards of today’s turbulent markets — some 700% in Europe since the start of last year, pushing the continent to the brink of recession. It’s at the heart of a dawning era of confrontation between the great powers, one so intense that in capitals across the West, plans to fight climate change are getting relegated to the back-burner.

In short, natural gas now rivals oil as the fuel that shapes geopolitics. And there isn’t enough of it to go around.

It’s the war in Ukraine that catalyzed the gas crisis to a new level, by taking out a crucial chunk of supply. Russia is cutting back on pipeline deliveries to Europe — which says it wants to stop buying from Moscow anyway, if not quite yet. The scramble to fill that gap is turning into a worldwide stampede, as countries race to secure scarce cargoes of liquefied natural gas ahead of the northern-hemisphere winter.

Germany says gas shortfalls could trigger a Lehman Brothers-like collapse, as Europe’s economic powerhouse faces the unprecedented prospect of businesses and consumers running out of power. The main Nord Stream pipeline that carries Russian gas to Germany is due to shut down on July 11 for ten days of maintenance, and there’s growing fear that Moscow may not reopen it

"He was an isolated stoner who completely lost touch with reality"

Funny how that happens.

@1cowtools
Hi I knew awake the rapper/ Robert / Bobby Crimo. We used to make music together around 2015-18. He’s not antifa, he’s not some maga overlord. I know that shit sounds really interesting. But it’s not the truth. He was an isolated stoner who completely lost touch with reality. 1/2

Crimo was known at least locally in what’s called the lofi rap community - and there are enough pictures of him online from the last several years that anyone who cares to look can see the change in him. Not the tattoos, those are obvious, I mean the way his eyes go flat and dead and vacant.

THC in high doses is just slow-acting brain poison (not even particularly slow-acting if the doses are really high). People have known this for centuries, we just had a very sophisticated pressure campaign over the last 30 years that made us forget it.

Right wing terrorism is getting worse than ever before.

Dishearteningly, many Republican elected officials refused to join efforts to investigate the violence, playing down the danger and obscuring the facts. Threats of political violence continued in different incarnations, with Donald Trump supporters threatening election officials who certified votes for Biden and members of school boards that pushed for COVID-19-related restrictions also facing threats. These and similar causes have found many supporters, and they are often able to spread, and even amplify, their messages on social media, which often favors extreme right-wing content.

As these examples illustrate, much of the danger is in the relationship between mainstream American politics and its extremist edges: The Capitol insurrection involved small numbers of organized white supremacists and anti-government extremists, but also QAnon adherents and large numbers of ordinary Trump supporters. As extremism expert Seamus Hughes notes, “There was absolutely a spectrum of support. In many ways, Jan. 6 was a bug light. It brought extremists from all areas. And they all came with different skill sets.”

In the past, Presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan denounced racist figures like Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke when they tried to enter mainstream politics. In contrast, President Trump often uses the rhetoric of the far right, supports or at least condones its anti-government protests, and has called on it to protect him in response to imaginary threats. Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar is an open advocate of white supremacist and other far-right fringe groups, and Republicans refused to join Democrats and condemn him even after he posted on social media a photoshopped anime video showing him killing liberal Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attacking President Biden.

“I’m confident that the bill we passed a week and a half ago is going to save lives. It will make a difference. But it is only the beginning. Today is a reminder of how much more work that we have to do. We have now broken the back of the gun lobby. We now have made possible changes in our gun laws that can keep our communities safer. Today is a reminder that we still have a long road to travel.”

DOJ raids former employee Jeff Clark’s home but never raided McCabe’s, Strozk’s, Page’s, Clinesmith’s, Sussmann’s, Elias’s, or Comey’s.

Make no mistake, this isn’t about justice.

This is a warning to everyone inside DOJ to never whistleblow or oppose the regime.

Philadelphia Mayor Says He’ll Be ‘Happy’ When Term Ends
July 5, 2022 at 11:36 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (D) told CBS Philadelphia that he’s so fed up with having to worry about guns and “bad” things happening that he’ll be “happy” to not be mayor anymore.

Said Kenney: “This is a gun country, it’s crazy, we’re the most armed country in world history and we’re one of the least safest. Until Americans decide that they want to give up the guns, and give up the opportunity to get guns, we’re gonna have this problem.”

He added: “I’ll be happy when I’m not… mayor.”

As it happens, the last state to give up slavery was Biden's dead-end, dead-beat Delaware, a slave state that remained in the Union and to which the Emancipation Proclamation did not apply and "Juneteenth" was unknown and irrelevant. The bastard sliver of New Sweden finally abolished slavery, essentially at federal gunpoint, on Dec. 6, 1865, the day the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified. Has Biden—who never met a Southern racist Democrat (George Wallace, Robert Byrd) he didn't want to buddy up with—ever acknowledged and apologized for his useless state's rancid history? Fat chance; instead, throughout his hacktastic political career, and in earlier delusions of running for president, he explicitly identified his state with the South during the Civil War as he pandered for support:

The same story went to quote a presidential primary campaign speech Biden had given in Alabama in which he said “we (Delawareans) were on the South’s side in the Civil War.”

Leave it to the Democrats, the party of slavery, segregation, secularism, and sedition that started the Civil War, to nominate and elect a senile dinosaur from the last human-bondage state in the Union. Their appetite for totalitarianism is boundless, as Biden, railing in his dotage, hurling executive orders and attacking the Supreme Court in seditious terms (overseas, no less), proves every day.

Christian Nationalists Are Excited About What Comes Next
July 5, 2022 at 11:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 55 Comments

Katherine Stewart: “The shape of the Christian nationalist movement in the post-Roe future is coming into view, and it should terrify anyone concerned for the future of constitutional democracy.”

“The Supreme Court’s decision to rescind the reproductive rights that American women have enjoyed over the past half-century will not lead America’s homegrown religious authoritarians to retire from the culture wars and enjoy a sweet moment of triumph. On the contrary, movement leaders are already preparing for a new and more brutal phase of their assault on individual rights and democratic self-governance. Breaking American democracy isn’t an unintended side effect of Christian nationalism. It is the point of the project.”

PROVING WITHOUT DOUBT WHY A NATIONAL BAN IS REQUIRED!!!!!!!

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

My answer to Christian nationalism:

My From the Pulpit column to be published this Friday:
___________

What is wrong with our nation these days? Could it be that too many who say they are Christians have failed to live up to the spiritual teachings they claim to embrace?

When in the sixth century Roman society was crumbling, St. Benedict told the citizens of his time, “Your way of acting should be different from the world’s way. The love of Christ must come before all else. You are not to act in anger or nurse a grudge. Rid your heart of all deceit. Never give a hollow greeting of peace or turn away when someone needs your love. Speak the truth with heart and tongue.”

Speaking the truth has become rare these days.

Twenty centuries ago. Jesus told the people of his time that their ways of acting should be different from the world’s ways of acting – amazingly different.

And why should that be? Because, he told them, they should know themselves to be so dearly loved by God that they will feel compelled to let their own love be as inclusive, unlimited, measureless, even "perfect," as is the love of their heavenly Father.

Indeed, as children of the Father, they should love even their enemies – and do that simply because the Father himself “is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.”

Jesus taught his followers to be different from a world in which so many seek to dominate, compete with, rule over, and control one another.

“Do not be like them,” Jesus said, "but make yourselves loving servants of all others, even to the point of laying down your life for them, as I did."

“But how can we possibly live like that?” his disciples asked him.

“You can’t,” he told them, “As far as it depends on you, it is impossible. But not for God. All things are possible for God.” Therefore rely on God, for God can do for you what you cannot do for yourselves.

Jesus taught them that the Father so lavishly pours out his love for them that they should feel themselves blameless, flawless, forgiven, totally accepted by and in that love.

If he were to speak to us today, I think he would still encourage us to be boldly humble enough to accept God’s acceptance of us, and then be lovingly accepting of others.
