Average gas prices recently passed $5 per gallon nationwide, setting a new record. This is bad news for workers' budgets, and since it's happening under President Joe Biden’s watch, it's bad news for the Democratic Party’s electoral prospects.

The reason for insane surge in gas prices is Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. And, to be fair, gas prices are definitely not completely within any president’s control. They absolutely are influenced by global factors, and the disruption in the global energy market caused by Putin’s invasion certainly has contributed to higher prices.

The same thing as in regards to wheat and other vegetables.

Most factors are not caused by any President in just 18 months.

But he gets blamed.

Fed Official Says 0.75-Point Rate Rise Seems Most Likely in July

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said last month the central bank was likely to consider raising its benchmark federal-funds rate by either a half percentage point or 0.75 point, or 75 basis points, at the July meeting after it raised it that amount in June, the largest increase since 1994. The Fed hasn’t raised interest rates by a full percentage point since it began using the fed-funds rate as its primary tool for setting monetary policy in the early 1990s.

After Wednesday’s inflation report, investors in interest-rate futures markets and some analysts judged that the central bank would approve a one-percentage-point rate increase at its meeting in two weeks. The probability of a one-point increase rose to around 79% on Wednesday, up from around 12% before the report, according to CME Group.

Fed officials are set to begin their premeeting quiet period on Saturday, leaving little time to shape expectations around their monetary-policy plans

But Trump is .

Donald Trump is a garbage can brought to life. He is the bottom of a dumpster that hasn't been cleaned for a lifetime, sprung to life as a living pestilence. He appeals to your darker angels. He gives people permission to be as horrible as they want to be. The Jan. 6 hearings are slowly backing him into a corner, connecting the dots and exposing his vicious, seditious activities for the anti-democratic crap they truly are.

Trump is a fascist. Trump is a liar. Trump is dangerous. Ultimately Trump is a traitor to the ideals enshrined in our Constitution. The seventh hearing on this fetid stench leaves just one important question unanswered: Will the Department of Justice indict Trump, Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Jeffrey Clark, Sidney Powell and others?

It is obvious that Liz Cheney, by mentioning the DOJ at the close of this week's hearing, believes that indictments are forthcoming. There are those who still doubt it and who believe Attorney General Merrick Garland is not up to the task. But the 32 federal lawmakers I've spoken with since Tuesday all believe Trump's indictment will be coming. "It has to, or this means nothing and as a country we are done," one told me.

So how did Trump respond on Wednesday?

He sent out emails promoting his Trump "commemorative" golf balls along with one encouraging his supporters to buy authentic "Trump Ultra Maga Shirts," for just $45.

The grift goes on — stay tuned for the next exciting episode.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Tuesday told President Biden that Americans suffering from high gas prices are welcome to drive across the border into Mexico to save money on fuel.

López Obrador told Biden in the Oval Office that gas is much cheaper on his side of the border.

“We have decided that it was necessary for us to allow Americans who live close to the border … [to] go and get their gasoline on the Mexican side at lower prices,” he told Biden through a translator.

“And right now, a lot of drivers, a lot of Americans are going to Mexico to get their gasoline. We are committed to guaranteeing twice as much supply … And right now a gallon of regular costs $4.78 average on this [US] side of the border and on our territory, $3.12.”

What they're saying: The differences of opinion in how to deal with the Iranian nuclear threat were clear at Thursday's press conference, with Lapid pushing for a tougher U.S. line.

"Words will not stop them, Mr. President. Diplomacy will not stop them. The only thing that will stop Iran is knowing that if they continue to develop their nuclear program the free world will use force. The only way to stop them is to put a credible military threat on the table," Lapid said.

Biden responded by saying that he will never allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon, but he then stressed that diplomacy is the best way forward.

He very carefully warned Iran.

Btw Reverend...

I saw your 103 different posts about the Atlantic article in the spam filter and I had read that article. While these are former prosecutors they lost me when their arguments include political rhetoric such as the "big lie".

I find it difficult sometimes to understand how 53% of the American public can believe there was not just cheating or fraud, but that 53% believe it was at least "somewhat likely" that cheating for fraud actually affected the 2020 election outcome...

but yet these people living in the "beltway bubble" seem to believe everyone accepts their rhetoric about the "big lie". Oh and that somehow we can make theis false "assumption" that nobody believes there was fraud can somehow be introduced as fact into any court of law.

Because without that assumption... the rest of the argument falls like a house of cards.

And need I remind you how truly damaging that Wisconsin ruling was... It literally validates what Trump was arguing... but these people want to suggest that he didn't believe what he was saying... even in cases where he was right?

Not to mention we have dozens of convictions for fraud that have included in some cases 1000s of ballots.

I am curious why these "experts" seem to not know any of this?

Can they even be called experts on this subject when they seem so blatantly uninformed?

Ridiculous.

There is that old saying about lawyers.

If the law is on your side, you pound the law.
If the facts are on your side, you pound the facts.

If neither are on your side, you pound the table.

They never once really suggest a specific law that was broken. They seem to be implying that he should be tried for sedition but never really state it. They just talk a lot about criminal culpability, criminal intent, and criminal accountability. It seems odd that you write that many words about a criminal prosecution without telling us what crime you are charging him with.

While they "seem" to provide a lot of "facts" - what they are doing is recapping a bunch of separate actions that (again) are not illegal. Trying to convince someone that an election was fraudulent is not a criminal offense (regardless of how many they want to believe this was the safest election ever). Decertifying an election result IS PERFECTLY LEGAL! Etc... et... etc... etc...

Literally nothing I have not read 100 times before from people with and without any practical legal experience. This could have been written by a blogger and the same thing has probably been written by bloggers 100000 times. There was literally nothing that they provided to me that has not already been addressed by other experts.

But lastly and most importantly... they want us to believe that the committee has "proven" the state of mind of Donald Trump.

Now you do not need to be an attorney to look up rules of trials and how state of mind works in civil and criminal trials. You do not have to be a prosecutor to know that proving "state of mind" is quite difficult and that it is almost impossible to call a witness (even a medical expert) to testify to someone else's state of mind.

Previous rulings and precedents suggest that only highly qualified experts who have closely worked with someone could testify to a "state of mind" (such as a psychologist). Moreover, this can be limited by a judge based on the whether an expert is unbiased and whether the opinion would be "unfairly prejudicial".

To prove beyond any reasonable doubt that Trump did not believe the same thing that 53% of the public believes is a mountain I would not want to climb if I was a prosecutor. They seem to not have the slightest grasp how many Americans accept that 2020 was riddled with problems or how hard it would be to "prove" that Donald Trump was part of their own personal beltway bubble on the subject rather than someone who believed what he was saying and what he was acting on.

That is my comments on that article

Democratic strategist
Joe Trippi sounded pretty upbeat in a conversation with
Bill Kristol on his party’s chances in the midterm elections.

His observations at this point:

*Democrats stand to increase their margin in the Senate because Republicans have nominated such bad candidates.

*The election is moving away from being a pure referendum on Biden.

*The repeal of Roe v. Wade has energized Democratic voters.

*The House has become less swingy because of prior redistricting, so Republican gains there may be muted.

Jonathan Last:
“My initial reaction to all of this is that it sounds too good to be true. We can’t have nice things. This is the darkest timeline. Etc. But on the other hand, there is no one I respect more than Trippi when it comes to nuts-and-bolts political analysis.”

This won't effect beliefs on his state of mind.

Days before the 2020 presidential election Donald Trump was planning to declare victory on election night, even if there was no evidence he was winning, according to a leaked Steve Bannon conversation recorded before the vote.

In the audio, recorded three days before the election and published by Mother Jones on Wednesday, Bannon told a group of associates Trump already had a scheme in place for the 3 November vote.

“What Trump’s gonna do is just declare victory. Right? He’s gonna declare victory. But that doesn’t mean he’s a winner,” Bannon, laughing, told the group, according to the audio.

“He’s just gonna say he’s a winner.”

Even before the election night results he was planning a coup.

It's not an opinion, Reverend..

But a fact.

In the nearly 250 years we have been a country, not a single person has ever been convicted of trying to convince someone of election fraud. If it was a crime, I would think someone would have been charged, tried, and convicted.

Wouldn't you agree?

C.H. Truth said...

Only a state legislature can decertify their own election, Reverend.

And only a state can certify their own election.

Neither is EVER illegal. If there are the votes in the legislature to decertify an election then it is perfectly legal, just as "ANY" legislative act is legal.

Unless you want to argue that we should not "criminalize" state legislative laws at a Federal level that Beltway liberals disagree with?

Is that your argument?

ON TOPIC:

Inflation is already a tax, primarily on workers. Real hourly wages have fallen 4.8% since January of 2021, the worst since the 1970s.

The same inflation Biden repeatedly called “transitory” last year has been anything but. Here’s a trip down memory lane, beginning the month after Biden took office:

February 1.7%
March 2.6% (American Rescue Plan signed March 11)
April 4.2%
May 4.99%
June 5.4%
July 5.4%
August 5.3%
September 5.4%
October 6.2%
November 6.8%
December 7%
January 7.4%
February 7.8% (Putin invades Ukraine)
March 8.5%
April 8.2%
May 8.6%
June 9.1%

Biden now says the June number is already “out-of-date.” Please.

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said he’s willing to consider what would be the most aggressive interest rate hike in decades at the central bank’s meeting later this month.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Worries are mounting that the U.S. is headed for or already in a recession, but Waller said the strength of the jobs market has him “feeling fairly confident that the U.S. economy did not enter a recession in the first half of 2022 and that the economic expansion will continue.”

Even with the Fed tightening, he said he thinks the economy can achieve a “soft landing” that won’t include a recession. U.S. GDP contracted 1.6% in the first quarter, and the Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow tracker is indicating a 1.2% decline in Q2, meeting the rule-of-thumb definition of a recession.

The economy literally decreased in the first quarter... it did not "expand". It is currently projected to shrink another 1.2 percent (negative 1.2 percent growth). So whether or not you believe it is or isn't a "recession" there is no "economic expansion" to continue.

It's really sad when the Biden Fed Reserve Governor cannot even be honest with the American people.
