 Kerry in a landslide!

Garland won't charge him until next year but in Georgia within a month of two and they will get him convicted by a jury of his peers.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Rudy Giuliani, and several members of former president Donald Trump‘s legal team have been hit with subpoenas as part of a Georgia prosecutor’s ongoing investigation into efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results.

If the Grand Jury finds evidence of Trump’s direct involvement in the scheme to reverse the outcome of the election , the Georgia Secretary of Justice will file changes against the former President.

I suspect that the evidence will be overwhelming, and the jury will find him guilty.

A Fulton County special grand jury issued subpoenas Tuesday for key allies of former President Donald Trump, including lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), according to court documents obtained by Axios.

The intrigue: This is the closest jurors have gotten to the former president's inner circle during the investigation into potential criminal interference in Georgia's 2020 election, writes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which first reported the subpoenas.

Details: The grand jury also issued subpoenas for podcast host Jacki Pick Deason, as well as lawyers John Eastman, Cleta Mitchell, Kenneth Chesbro and Jenna Ellis.

The subpoenas were signed by Fulton Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, who is overseeing the grand jury.McBurney signed a “certificate of material witness” for Graham, Giuliani and others, saying they're necessary for this ongoing investigation, AP reports.

Zoom out: The subpoenas came after the jury heard testimony over the last weeks from various witnesses in the election investigation, AJC reports. Some of the witnesses included people who had direct contact with Trump.

The investigation could end with criminal charges against Trump for violating state law by trying to overturn the 2020 election,

Two months after publication of this story, the Georgia secretary of state released an audio recording of President Donald Trump’s December phone call with the state’s top elections investigator. The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. Trump did not tell the investigator to “find the fraud” or say she would be “a national hero” if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in Fulton County, Ga., asserting she would find “dishonesty” there. He also told her that she had “the most important job in the country right now.” A story about the recording can be found here. The headline and text of this story have been corrected to remove quotes misattributed to Trump.

'The base is out for blood': GOP plots vengeance campaign against J6 committee

House Republicans are threatening a vengeance campaign against the Jan. 6 Committee if they retake the majority next year.

The select committee's public hearings have drawn millions of viewers and painted a damning portrait of Donald Trump's efforts to overturn his election loss, but Republicans to set up their own committees to target President Joe Biden if House minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) holds the gavel, reported Axios.

"The base is out for blood on subpoenas," said one House Republican aide. "A lot of it will just depend on how far McCarthy wants to go."

Republicans have signaled they intend to set up their own investigations of the Jan. 6 committee, Hunter Biden, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the White House COVID-19 response and House speaker Nancy Pelosi's handling of U.S. Capitol security during the insurrection.

"When Republicans retake the majority, we will exercise our oversight responsibilities including subpoena authority to review all transcripts and information that the committee has access to in order to identify the truth," said a senior GOP staffer on the House Administration Committee, which oversees Capitol security.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), who's up for re-election in November, has blamed Pelosi for security failures on Jan. 6 and could potentially chair a Senate subcommittee to investigate those issues, but a spokesman for the House speaker dismissed those concerns as ridiculous.

"Numerous independent fact checkers have confirmed that Speaker Pelosi did not plan her own assassination," said spokesman Drew Hammill. “The former president’s desperate lies aside, the speaker was no more in charge of the security of the U.S. Capitol that day than [Senate GOP Leader] Mitch McConnell.”

The grand jury will continue to gather information about Trump and his allies’ attempts to interfere with Georgia’s election results, and the group will then submit a report about whether the former president or any of his associates should face criminal charges over their efforts. Willis will make the final decision about filing charges in the case.

The newest development comes as the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection has looked more closely at Trump’s lies about the 2020 election. Raffensperger testified publicly before the committee last month, and he recounted how his office investigated a number of Trump’s election conspiracy theories and found no evidence to substantiate any of them.

“The numbers are the numbers,” Raffensperger told the committee. “The numbers don’t lie.”

He will be the first former President to die in prison.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

President Joe Biden is a genuinely good man, but he has yet been unable to break through our national malady of denial, deceit, and distrust. A return of Donald Trump would feed the sickness, probably rendering it incurable. Congress is particularly disappointing: Our elected officials put a finger in the wind more frequently than they show backbone against it. Too often, Washington demonstrates the maxim that for evil to thrive only requires good men to do nothing.

I hope for a president who can rise above the din to unite us behind the truth. Several contenders with experience and smarts stand in the wings; we intently watch to see if they also possess the requisite character and ability to bring the nation together in confronting our common reality. While we wait, leadership must come from fathers and mothers, teachers and nurses, priests and rabbis, businessmen and businesswomen, journalists and pundits. That will require us all to rise above ourselves—above our grievances and resentments—and grasp the mantle of leadership our country so badly needs.

BREAKING: Internal Memo Reveals Capitol Police Were Warned BLM from Baltimore Was Bussing in Rioters Disguised as Trump Supporters on Jan. 6

Michael Waller, a senior analyst for strategy at the Center for Security Policy specializing in propaganda, political warfare, psychological warfare, and subversion, said he was at the Capitol on January 6 and witnessed:

Plainclothes militants. Militant, aggressive men in Donald Trump and MAGA gear at a front police line at the base of the temporary presidential inaugural platform;

Agents-provocateurs. Scattered groups of men exhorting the marchers to gather closely and tightly toward the center of the outside of the Capitol building and prevent them from leaving;

Fake Trump protesters. A few young men wearing Trump or MAGA hats backwards and who did not fit in with the rest of the crowd in terms of their actions and demeanor, whom I presumed to be Antifa or other leftist agitators;

Disciplined, uniformed column of attackers. A column of organized, disciplined men, wearing similar but not identical camouflage uniforms and black gear, some with helmets and GoPro cameras or wearing subdued Punisher skull patches.

Antifa protester John Sullivan was caught on video posing as a Trump supporter during the rioting at the US Capitol on January 6th.

Sullivan also organized an Antifa rally on January 6th near the US Capitol. This has been ignored by the media.

The Climate Emergency We Worried About is Here - Our “Normal” Climate is Dead
Wed, Jul 6, 2022 9:21 am
The Hartmann Report

For much of the past four decades, climate activists have been warning us that we’re approaching tipping points that will alter how Americans live - now we’re there

There’s a new study out about climate change — and our new climate normal — that is truly shocking and, for those of us concerned about future generations, alarming.

The lead researcher’s first name is Cassandra, no doubt an unintentional choice in the paper’s authors’ pecking order, but still.

For much of the past four decades, climate activists have been warning us that we’re approaching tipping points and thresholds that will alter how Americans live, cost us a fortune, and kill thousands of Americans every year.

Now we’re there. Our “normal” climate is dead; the weather has gone insane, and it is killing Americans and millions of people all around the globe.

This is how quickly it has hit us: when I published the first edition of The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight in 1996 (it’s been updated twice since then) there was still a vigorous debate here in the United States — funded in large part by the fossil fuel industry and it’s allies in rightwing media — over whether climate change was even a real thing.

They knew that their product was poisoning our atmosphere, but they were making hundreds of billions of dollars. Nothing was more important to them than that money.

They and their bought-off politicians began to believe their own lies, or at least some did, and thought this wouldn’t happen until they were all dead anyway, even if it was true.

But then it happened. The climate emergency we were worried about has arrived. It is here, now.

“Sixfold Increase in Historical Northern Hemisphere Concurrent Large Heatwaves Driven by Warming and Changing Atmospheric Circulations” is the title of the shocking new study published a few months ago in The American Meteorological Society’s Journal of Climate.

Looking at statistical information about major heatwaves — particularly ones that hit multiple continents at the same time — they found:

“Such simultaneous heatwaves are 7 times more likely now than 40 years ago. They are also hotter and affect a larger area.”

In the 1980s the Northern Hemisphere averaged around 73 heatwaves during the summer months from May to September. By the 2010s that number had grown to 152 heatwaves per summer.

And those heat waves are also almost 20 percent hotter than they were than the year Reagan won the presidency (and denied climate change throughout his 8 fossil-fuel-funded years in office).

One of the most startling understandings of what’s happening has only become apparent in the past decade or so: that the Polar Jet Stream is acting weird and thus making our weather extremes more severe.

Over the course of multiple conversations with the world’s top climate scientists I’ve learned that the Polar Jet Stream — the fast-moving river of high-altitude (30,000+ feet) air that circulates around the North Pole — has slowed down, weakened, and is beginning to “drool” down over parts of North America, going as far south as Texas.

This was, in fact, what caused the severe winter weather that shut down Texas’ privatized power grid February-before-last, along with causing the “bomb cyclone” freezing storms hitting the Midwest and Northeast, and the three days of 116-degree weather we had here in the Pacific Northwest last summer.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Historically, the Polar Jet Stream was held in place — mostly in the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere — by the temperature differential between the arctic and the middle latitudes, where most Americans (outside of northern Alaska) live.

The cold arctic air defined the northernmost margin of the Polar Jet Stream while the warmer middle latitude air defined its southernmost margin. While it pushed weather patterns across North America for much of my life, it rarely dipped below the Mason-Dixon line and, even when it did, generally just brought the hot/cold, or wet/drought weather behind it for only a day or two.

But the arctic has been warming at least three times faster than the middle latitudes where most of us live, which means the difference in temperature between the arctic air to the north of the Jet Stream and our air to its south has diminished.

The North Pole/Arctic, once a solid cap of ice where Santa Claus was supposed to live, is now an open sea every summer.

As that temperature differential has declined, so has the strength and velocity of the Jet Stream. Now, instead of whipping across the Northern Hemisphere, it often spills down as far south as Mexico and then stays in place for days at a time.

What would have been a one-day cold-snap or heat wave becomes multiple days, long enough to wreak billions in damage to a state’s residential and energy infrastructure.

What would have been a rainstorm lasting a few hours becomes an unrelenting downpour lasting for days, creating massive flooding.

The changes to the Jet Stream, combined with the warming of our oceans (whose temperatures also drive weather), have also caused what were once routine weather patterns to change.

Regions that were only dry during the summer are now experiencing drought year-round; parts of the country where flooding was occasional but rare are now regularly experiencing massive, days-long storms that tear up houses and flood entire regions.

Flights are bumpier and being cancelled with increasing frequency because of weather, as we’re just now sliding into this unknowable new era of severe weather weirding.

This is our new normal, and it’s costing us lives and billions of dollars every year, all to preserve the profits of a fossil fuel industry that knew in the 1960s that their product was poisoning the world and would lead to this outcome.

But don’t think that just because this is the new normal that this “normal” will last. The last time our planet saw CO2 levels at their current 420 parts-per-million sea levels were 60 feet higher and trees were growing in Antarctica.

In other words, we’re on a path, not at a destination. The planet will catch up with all that CO2, and as it does our weather will continue to become more and more severe until we figure out a way to get CO2 levels back down to the 1950s count of just over 300 ppm.

Meanwhile, we’re pouring more CO2 into the atmosphere right now than at any time in human history, despite efforts among the world’s developed nations to reduce their carbon footprint.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been a major kick-in-the-pants to Europe to get off their dependence on fossil fuels and go green, as have high oil and gas prices around the world.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Here in America, the Supreme Court (with 5 justices put on the bench by money from fossil-fuel billionaires) just kneecapped the Biden administration’s ability to regulate CO2 and promote green energy.

And, of course, Republicans deeply in the pocket of Big Oil, Gas, and Coal continue to deny climate change is even happening.

The ten top recipients of fossil fuel money in Congress so far this year are:

Manchin, Joe (D-WV) $724,270
McCarthy, Kevin (R-CA) $396,284
Lankford, James (R-OK) $275,148
Pfluger, August (R-TX) $268,011
Kennedy, John (R-LA) $264,788
Murkowski, Lisa (R-AK) $249,808
Sinema, Kyrsten (D-AZ) $230,160
Fletcher, Lizzie (D-TX) $191,765
Cuellar, Henry (D-TX) $191,450
Scott, Tim (R-SC) $181,291
Scalise, Steve (R-LA) $181,263
Gonzales, Tony (R-TX) $174,461
Rubio, Marco (R-FL) $165,636

Amazing how little it costs to buy a member of Congress to keep your multi-billion-dollar-a-year profits flowing, isn’t it?

Here’s what opensecrets.org says are the top recipients through their careers:

Romney, Mitt (R-UT) $8,291,262
Cornyn, John (R-TX) $4,678,062
Cruz, Ted (R-TX) $4,138,421
McCain, John (R-AZ) $3,766,042
McConnell, Mitch (R-KY) $2,852,107
McCarthy, Kevin (R-CA) $2,581,832
Obama, Barack (D) $2,361,861
Hutchison, Kay Bailey (R-TX) $2,332,021
Inhofe, James M (R-OK) $2,320,139
Pearce, Steve (R-NM) $2,236,714
Barton, Joe (R-TX) $2,211,987
Brady, Kevin (R-TX) $2,087,396
Gardner, Cory (R-CO) $2,048,152
Gramm, Phil (R-TX) $1,858,679
Scalise, Steve (R-LA) $1,847,013
Murkowski, Lisa (R-AK) $1,792,602

Americans are dying because these paid-off shills have either failed to act or actively blocked any meaningful change in our nation’s climate policy. They have blood on their hands, with more to come as every year brings more severe floods, storms, and drought.

We can no longer tolerate this criminal political malpractice.

If America is to reclaim its position as a leader and role model for the world and stop the disastrous new climate “normal” we’re now entering from becoming radically more severe, we must get our use of fossil fuels under control.

That means ostracizing elected officials in the pocket of the industry, rolling back Citizens United so Big Oil and Coal can’t continue to bribe members of Congress, and throwing significant subsidies into greening our energy and transportation systems.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Pat Cipollone, Donald Trump’s former White House counsel, is scheduled to testify Friday before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to a person briefed on the matter.

Cipollone, whose reported resistance to Trump’s schemes to overturn his 2020 election defeat has made him a long-sought and potentially revelatory witness, was subpoenaed by the select committee last week after weeks of public pressure to provide testimony to the panel.

The person briefed on the matter, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to discuss private negotiations, said Cipollone agreed to appear before the committee for a private, transcribed interview.

Cipollone is said to have stridently and repeatedly warned the former president and his allies against their efforts to challenge the election, threatening to resign as Trump eyed a dramatic reshuffling atop the Justice Department.

One witness said Cipollone referred to a proposed letter making false claims about voter fraud as a “murder-suicide pact.” Another witness said Cipollone had warned her that Trump was at risk of committing “every crime imaginable.”

The Republican Party is breaking up because of Trump and the Supreme Court decisions.

New York Republican drops out of state Senate race — and quits the GOP

Matthew Chapman

July 06, 2022

On Wednesday, local news outlet WGRZ reported that former Republican Erie County Executive Joel Giambra has suspended his campaign for New York state Senate — and left the Republican Party altogether.

"In an email sent to friends and supporters, Giambra said he, 'can no longer remain a Republican or continue with my campaign to seek the Republican nomination for Senator in the 61st District,'" said the report.

Giambra first began his campaign in February, with an endorsement from the Erie County Republican Party.

"I cannot stand with party leaders who double down in their support of the NRA after yet another mass shooting; who applaud the decision to take away a woman's right to choose and who encourage the elimination of LGBQ rights; and who still believe that Donald Trump is their president," wrote Giambra in his explanation for why he is changing his party affiliation.

This comes a few months after New Hampshire state Rep. William Marsh renounced the GOP and defected to the Democratic Party, citing Republicans' promotion of anti-vaccine propaganda as the reason for his defection.

It also comes as several Republicans in Pennsylvania are planning to endorse Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro for governor, revolting against far-right nominee Doug Mastriano.

Marjorie Taylor Green: July 4 shooting 'designed' to force gun control and ruin 'MAGA Month'

David Edwards

July 06, 2022

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) argued this week that a mass shooting at a July Fourth parade in Illinois was "designed" to ruin "MAGA month" and convince Republicans to support gun control.

During her MTG Live broadcast on Tuesday, Greene suggested that the shooting was a false flag event staged by anti-gun forces.

Greene noted that the shooting occurred in the "rich, white neighborhood" of Highland Park.

"It almost sounds like it's designed to persuade Republicans to go along with more gun control," she opined. "I mean, after all, remember we didn't see that happen at all the Pride parades in the month of June! But as soon as we hit MAGA month, as soon as we hit the month that we're all celebrating loving our country, we have shootings on July Fourth."

"I mean, that would sound like a conspiracy theory, right?" she laughed. "Of course."

Greene also complained that the suspect "dressed as a woman" during the shooting.

"I think identity is important so they can be found," she said. "That's something we used to care about in this country."

The shooting was a great conspiracy to get Trump

In 2019 the highland park shooter was flagged as a clear and present danger. Yet, he passed 4 background checks in 2020 and 2021. That's where the solution must be. Create better background checks. Not take guns away from the people not breaking the law. How the hell did pass four different checks when he was flagged in 2019?

Cipollone is said to have stridently and repeatedly warned Trump and his allies against their efforts to challenge the election, threatening to resign as Trump eyed a dramatic reshuffling atop the Justice Department.

One witness said Cipollone referred to a proposed letter making false claims about voter fraud as a “murder-suicide pact.” Another witness said Cipollone had warned her that Trump was at risk of committing “every crime imaginable” if he went to the Capitol on Jan. 6

But while his interview with the committee could prove to be a breakthrough, it remained unclear whether Cipollone would try to limit what he is willing to talk about. As the administration’s chief lawyer, he could argue that some or all of his conversations with Trump are privileged.

What Republicans Do with Power

A raped and pregnant 10-year-old crossing state lines for an abortion.

A coup against our government led by a president eager to send a mob he knew was armed to threaten the vice president and members of Congress.

A Supreme Court that rules against the majority of the country on guns, abortion, and climate change and may side with Republicans next year who want partisans to decide our elections.

The attorney general of Texas admitting he would welcome the return of anti-sodomy laws.

After years of tumultuous change and accelerating division, these past days and weeks have made perfectly clear—even to those who had tried tuning it all out when Donald Trump lost the 2020 election—just what Republicans do with power.

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) — The man charged with killing seven people when he unleashed a hail of bullets on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago confessed to police that he fired on the crowd, a prosecutor said Wednesday.

An Illinois judge ordered that the suspected gunman be held without bail. Police found the shells of 83 bullets and three ammunition magazines on the rooftop that he fired from, Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Ben Dillon said.

The man charged with killing seven people when he unleashed a hail of bullets on an Independence Day parade from a rooftop was expected in court Wednesday as authorities faced questions about how he was allowed to buy several guns, despite threatening violence.

Robert E. Crimo III was charged with seven counts of murder Tuesday in the shooting that sent hundreds of marchers, parents and children fleeing in fear and set off an hourslong manhunt in and around Highland Park, an affluent Chicago suburb on the shores of Lake Michigan. Investigators have yet to identify a motive.

Crimo's attorney said he intends to enter a not guilty plea to all charges. Prosecutors have promised to seek dozens more.

A rifle “similar to an AR-15" was used to spray more than 70 rounds from atop a commercial building into the parade crowd, a spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force said.

A seventh victim died Tuesday. More than three dozen other people were wounded in the attack, which Task force spokesman Christopher Covelli said the suspect had planned for several weeks.

The assault happened less than three years after police went to Crimo's home following a call from a family member who said he was threatening “to kill everyone” there. Covelli said police confiscated 16 knives, a dagger and a sword, but said there was no sign he had any guns at the time, in September 2019.

“Our democracy’s path rests mostly with the Supreme Court. If five justices overturn the North Carolina decision, they will know what they are doing, which is writing a recipe for election tampering. They will also know why they are doing it: not because the Constitution demands it, but because they can.”

So we will have election fraud if we allow the citizen elected legislation to create election laws? And somehow not allowing the unelected courts to change these rules is an attack on "Democracy"?

Sounds like someone doesn't understand the concept of Democracy!

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It would make it possible to gerrymander and even worse because the Supreme Court of the State is North Carolina would not be able to determine if the legislature violated the Constitution of the state of North Carolina.

And because of makeup of current Supreme Court, it would be a back door to overturn Marbury v Madison.

Each state would be in effect separate countries, that Madison defeated the anti Federalist movement as the President of the United States of America not separate countries.

They could gerrymander nation wide and eliminate the voting rights legislation because The Supreme Court would no longer actually exist.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Supreme Court agreed last week to hear a case that could fundamentally change this country’s democracy — by making it less of one.

The decision to hear Moore v. Harper could lead to an erosion of voting rights and an increasing likelihood of election interference. At issue is a North Carolina Supreme Court case holding that the state’s constitution precludes severe partisan gerrymanders; the argument the petitioners make is that state courts shouldn’t have any role in overruling federal election rules put into place by state legislatures. This so-called independent state legislature theory has found little sympathy from scholars but appears to have garnered more affection from the current slate of conservative justices — four of whom have suggested they are at least willing to entertain the idea. The consequences of such a ruling would be tremendous.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Republican-appointed Supreme Court majority would complete a nasty bait-and-switch by neutering state courts when it comes to elections: Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote in a 5-to-4 decision three years ago that federal courts could do nothing to prevent the same sort of extreme gerrymander. But never fear, he insisted, state courts could step in to protect citizens’ rights. Now, it seems, he and his colleagues on the right, with Justice Amy Coney Barrett a possible swing vote, are poised to go back on that promise. This would mean that state legislatures — their own makeup the result of heavy gerrymandering — could contort congressional districts at will to ensure one party has the advantage, playing with how much every individual’s vote really counts. Other harms abound.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Should the Supreme Court buy into this radical doctrine, governors and other state and local officials responsible for running elections might also end up with their hands tied. That could lead to chaos if legislatures set burdensome rules for voting in federal contests that conflict with less restrictive rules for state contests. It could also create manifold opportunities for mischief of the sort then-President Donald Trump and his allies attempted in 2020: Legislatures might remain restrained from deciding to ignore the popular vote and appoint their own slates of electors after the fact of a lost presidential race, but they could plausibly pass laws ahead of time establishing a process that allows them to do just that.

The reforms to the Electoral Count Act under negotiation on Capitol Hill could go some of the way toward mitigating the danger, and lawmakers should pursue those changes — but any law’s impact will be limited, and this development also risks snarling talks. Our democracy’s path rests mostly with the Supreme Court. If five justices overturn the North Carolina decision, they will know what they are doing, which is writing a recipe for election tampering. They will also know why they are doing it: not because the Constitution demands it, but because they can.

The Georgia investigation just got more serious for Trump

A Georgia district attorney on Wednesday said she will not rule out subpoenaing former President Donald Trump as part of her grand jury investigation into whether he criminally interfered in the 2020 election in that state.

“Anything’s possible,” Fulton County DA Fani Willis told NBC News. Willis added that she is “absolutely” not ruling out a Trump subpoena.

She also said she expects the grand jury in Atlanta to issue additional subpoenas to more Trump associates.

The grand jury on Tuesday subpoenaed Trump’s former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, six other attorneys who worked with the Trump campaign to overturn Georgia’s election results as well as Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

Graham’s lawyers on Wednesday said he would fight the subpoena for his testimony, saying it was all about “politics.” Prosecutors want to question Graham about calls he had with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on the heels of the November 2020 election, which President Joe Biden won.

When asked about Graham’s response, Willis scoffed. “What do I have to gain from these politics?” she said. “It’s some inaccurate ... estimation. It’s someone that doesn’t understand the seriousness of what we’re doing.”

She also wouldn’t rule out subpoenaing Trump’s family or former White House officials. “We’ll just have to see where the investigation leads us,” she said.

The law matters except for you

The independent state legislature theory not only cuts against the American system of checks and balances, but would deliver a blow to federalism, potentially taking state courts out of the equation when it comes to election law, leaving federal courts the only arbiter.

But I think that the Chief Justice John Roberts and at least one of Trump appointees will save our Country

There is a difference Roger...

New York passed a law regarding gerrymandering... and in that case the courts can absolutely step in if that law is seen to be violated.

The question is whether or not courts can just step in and overrule the maps drawn by the people elected by the citizens.

At the end of the day people are just as unhappy with the maps drawn by the courts as they are as the ones drawn by legislatures. In some states, the courts continued to reject maps basically until they got the map "they" wanted...

Which is not how either map drawing or our legal system is supposed to work. Courts should never be "results" orientated. If they are, then they are ignoring their duty to be arbitrators of the constitution and law and moving into becoming legislatures.

Basically the current Supreme Court and state legislatures the MAGA of will overturn every single action in our history except for slavery.

If all this were not bad enough, the court ended its present term by announcing that it had agreed to hear Moore v Harper in the fall. It is widely feared that the case, which involves a North Carolina redistricting plan, will provide the court’s reactionary core the opportunity to adopt the so-called “independent state legislature theory”, a previously fringe notion that the constitution gives state legislatures plenary control over elections, free from the oversight of state courts and regardless of contrary provisions in state constitutions. Adopting this dangerous theory could, for example, give legislators spouting the big lie in swing states the power to determine the outcome of a presidential election. Whatever theory we use to interpret the constitution, it should not result in the destruction of the very form of democratic governance the constitution was designed to protect.

Because if the Supreme Court decision supports it, the state legislatures can both gerrymander and decide who won the election and send the electoral votes to whomever they want to.

If the Supreme Court decision is in favor of the state legislatures, only the Supreme Court could decide.

And the extreme right-wing might overturn Marbury v Madison
