The conservative majority of the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Friday that ballot drop boxes were illegal in the state, and it didn’t take long for right wing election lie evangelists to declare the decision proof of a fraudulent 2020 vote, and even to demand again that the election results be overturned.
The COVID-19 pandemic moved Wisconsin election officials, backed by a memo from the state’s Election Commission, to install hundreds of drop boxes across the state. Justice Rebecca Bradley wrote for the court’s 4-3 majority Friday that “Ballot drop boxes appear nowhere in the detailed statutory system for absentee voting.”
Donald Trump, whose campaign filed an unsuccessful 2020 lawsuit to overturn Wisconsin’s election results based on the use of drop boxes, was first in line: “This means I won the very closely contested (not actually!) Wisconsin Presidential race because they used these corrupt and scandal-ridden Scam Boxes,” he wrote in a post on his social media website, Truth Social.
“Speaker Robin Vos has a decision to make!” Trump said. “Does Wisconsin RECLAIM the Electors, turn over the Election to the actual winner (by a lot!), or sit back and do nothing as our Country continues to go to HELL?” He referenced a legally impossible resolution to overturn the election results that sounded like the one pushed by State Rep. Tim Ramthun (R), who’s also a GOP candidate for governor.
In a video responding to the court’s ruling, Ramnthun said he had “a lot of joy in my heart.” The decision regarding drop boxes, he said, “begs the question: Was it illegal in 2020? I say yes, and there’s unfinished business there as well.” The candidate said in a statement that he was “elated beyond measure” at the decision and added: “Much more to come, buckle up.”
A post on John Solomon’s right-wing “Just The News” website similarly asserted, “Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling on drop boxes undercuts Democrats’ clean election claim.”
The article presented no evidence of the use of drop boxes leading to the counting of fraudulent votes — there is none. Instead, it argued that the decision was “evidence that a widely used mechanism for the 2020 election was illegal, undercutting Democratic claims that any irregularities in the contest were insufficient to sway outcomes.”
On the social media website Gettr, Steve Bannon commented on the ruling, “now DECERTIFY THE 2020 BIDEN ELECTORS.”
Tom Fitton, the heavily bicep’ed leader of the right-wing legal advocacy group Judicial Watch, said the court’s decision was “a historic vindication for Trump.”
“Zuckerboxes were one of the most visible ways that the unprecedented infusion of private money into the 2020 election led to disparate treatment of voters,” said another right-wing legal voice, Phillip Kline of the Amistad Project.

The pressure the committee put on Cipollone to testify was ratcheted up after the appearance of Cassidy Hutchinson, former principal aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, at a June 28 session. Cipollone had already given the committee an informal interview. Obviously, then, the committee’s ardor to acquire additional information from Cipollone was driven by expectations ...
The Jan. 6 select committee will present evidence at its hearing on Tuesday that a tweet by former President Trump prompted pro-Trump groups to change the date they planned to converge on D.C. to Jan. 6, Axios has learned.
Why it matters: One of the central questions in the investigation has been how directly culpable Trump was in the violence committed by his supporters — something impeachment managers sought to answer in the weeks after the assault.
But the committee has substantial resources the impeachment managers lacked, including subpoena power and more than a year to gather evidence.

PHOENIX (AP) — A federal judge in Phoenix on Monday blocked a 2021 state “personhood” law that gives all legal rights to unborn children and that abortion rights groups said put providers at risk of prosecution for a variety of crimes.
U.S. District Judge Douglas Rayes said in his written ruling that the groups that sued to block the law are right — it is “anyone’s guess,” as the state acknowledged, what criminal laws abortion providers may be breaking if they perform otherwise-legal abortions.
“And that is the problem,” Rayes wrote. “When the punitive and regulatory weight of the entire Arizona code is involved, Plaintiffs should not have to guess at whether their conduct is on the right or the wrong side of the law.”
Rayes agreed with the challengers that the law appears to be unconstitutionally vague.
At least four other states have similar “personhood” laws in effect, including Missouri, Kansas, Georgia and Alabama.
Anyone can come to a logical conclusion that Trump was aware members of the violent militia groups were among those gathered at a rally on the Ellipse near the White House on the morning of January 6, when he addressed the crowd and encouraged them to march to the Capitol.

A top leader of the Islamic State in Syria, Maher al-Agal, was killed in a U.S. air strike early Tuesday, the United States military will announce, NBC News has learned.
Maher al-Agal was one of the top four ISIS leaders overall, according to a spokesman for U.S. Central Command CENTCOM.
A deputy of Al-Agal's was also targeted but it was not clear whether he was killed or injured, according to a CENTCOM statement.

A new Politico/Morning Consult poll suggests the January 6 Committee could be changing the public’s understanding of that day’s events:
66% of voters say Donald Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 election.
66% say he claimed the election was fraudulent without evidence.
59% say he misled the public about the outcome of the election.
Also interesting: 44% of Republicans say Trump lied about the election results. That’s up seven points since the end of June.

The conservative majority of the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Friday that ballot drop boxes were illegal in the state, and it didn’t take long for right wing election lie evangelists to declare the decision proof of a fraudulent 2020 vote, and even to demand again that the election results be overturned.
The COVID-19 pandemic moved Wisconsin election officials, backed by a memo from the state’s Election Commission, to install hundreds of drop boxes across the state. Justice Rebecca Bradley wrote for the court’s 4-3 majority Friday that “Ballot drop boxes appear nowhere in the detailed statutory system for absentee voting.”
Donald Trump, whose campaign filed an unsuccessful 2020 lawsuit to overturn Wisconsin’s election results based on the use of drop boxes, was first in line: “This means I won the very closely contested (not actually!) Wisconsin Presidential race because they used these corrupt and scandal-ridden Scam Boxes,” he wrote in a post on his social media website, Truth Social.
“Speaker Robin Vos has a decision to make!” Trump said. “Does Wisconsin RECLAIM the Electors, turn over the Election to the actual winner (by a lot!), or sit back and do nothing as our Country continues to go to HELL?” He referenced a legally impossible resolution to overturn the election results that sounded like the one pushed by State Rep. Tim Ramthun (R), who’s also a GOP candidate for governor.
In a video responding to the court’s ruling, Ramnthun said he had “a lot of joy in my heart.” The decision regarding drop boxes, he said, “begs the question: Was it illegal in 2020? I say yes, and there’s unfinished business there as well.” The candidate said in a statement that he was “elated beyond measure” at the decision and added: “Much more to come, buckle up.”
A post on John Solomon’s right-wing “Just The News” website similarly asserted, “Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling on drop boxes undercuts Democrats’ clean election claim.”
The article presented no evidence of the use of drop boxes leading to the counting of fraudulent votes — there is none. Instead, it argued that the decision was “evidence that a widely used mechanism for the 2020 election was illegal, undercutting Democratic claims that any irregularities in the contest were insufficient to sway outcomes.”
On the social media website Gettr, Steve Bannon commented on the ruling, “now DECERTIFY THE 2020 BIDEN ELECTORS.”
Tom Fitton, the heavily bicep’ed leader of the right-wing legal advocacy group Judicial Watch, said the court’s decision was “a historic vindication for Trump.”
“Zuckerboxes were one of the most visible ways that the unprecedented infusion of private money into the 2020 election led to disparate treatment of voters,” said another right-wing legal voice, Phillip Kline of the Amistad Project.
The Trump-campaign-linked group filed unsuccessful lawsuits seeking to overturn the 2020 election in multiple states. Kline was subpoenaed by the congressional Jan. 6 Committee in March.

The pressure the committee put on Cipollone to testify was ratcheted up after the appearance of Cassidy Hutchinson, former principal aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, at a June 28 session. Cipollone had already given the committee an informal interview. Obviously, then, the committee’s ardor to acquire additional information from Cipollone was driven by expectations ...

Klaus Mueller, the head of Germany’s energy regulator, believes the Kremlin may continue to throttle Europe’s energy supplies beyond the scheduled end of the maintenance work.
“We cannot rule out the possibility that gas transport will not be resumed afterwards for political reasons,” Mueller told CNBC last week.
Energy analysts agree that the risk of a temporary interruption is high, particularly as Russian gas flows have already dropped by about 60% in recent months.
Russia’s state-backed energy giant Gazprom has cited the delayed return of equipment serviced by Germany’s Siemens Energy in Canada for its reduced flows.
Canada said over the weekend that it would return a repaired gas turbine back to Germany for use in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, while also expanding the sanctions against Russia’s energy sector.
Russia said last week that it would increase gas supplies to Europe if the turbine being serviced in Canada was returned. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also dismissed claims that Russia was using oil and gas to exert political pressure over Europe, Reuters reported.

A top leader of the Islamic State in Syria, Maher al-Agal, was killed in a U.S. air strike early Tuesday, the United States military will announce, NBC News has learned.
Maher al-Agal was one of the top four ISIS leaders overall, according to a spokesman for U.S. Central Command CENTCOM.
A deputy of Al-Agal's was also targeted but it was not clear whether he was killed or injured, according to a CENTCOM statement.
