January 6 committee's investigation stirs up fresh revelations ahead of last planned hearing
By Jeremy Herb, CNN
Updated 1 hour ago Jul 16, 2022
(CNN) - The House January 6 committee corroborated key details involving former President Donald Trump's heated exchange with the Secret Service when Trump was told he could not go to the Capitol -- the latest in a string of shocking revelations that have come from the summer hearings with their expected high-profile conclusion next week.

CNN first reported Thursday evening that a Washington, DC, police officer in the motorcade with the Secret Service corroborated details to the committee that were related to the explosive House select committee public testimony earlier this month. At the same time, the Secret Service came under new scrutiny this week over the deletion of agency text messages from January 5 and 6, 2021.
The corroboration comes as the committee plans to zero in on Trump's conduct on January 6, 2021 at its hearing next week, which will focus on Trump's response -- or lack thereof -- as rioters breached the Capitol walls and forced lawmakers to flee their chambers.

Select committee members have accused Trump of a "dereliction of duty" for failing to act as the Capitol was under attack -- and his vice president, Mike Pence -- was in danger. Next week's hearing is the last planned of the committee's eight public hearings as the panel has sought in each session to tie Trump to the deadly attack that unfolded on January 6.
"There will be a lot of information, a lot more clarity about the details of the things that happened that day, what the people who were working in the White House, working around the President and even people who were advising him to do things, actions that he was no taking based off of their reasoned advice," Virginia Democratic Rep. Elaine Luria, who will help lead the next hearing, told CNN this week. "I look at it as a dereliction of duty. He didn't act. He did not take action to stop the violence."
The committee announced Friday that it would hold the hearing on Thursday, July 21 at 8 p.m. ET -- the panel's second primetime session to try to maximize viewership and attention. The panel has not said who will testify at next week's hearing, though CNN has previously reported that former Trump White House deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews is expected to be a witness.
The committee is also likely to lean heavily on video clips from the deposition of Pat Cipollone, Trump's former White House counsel. Cipollone sat for a transcribed interview just last week, and the committee used clips from the interview 14 times during Tuesday's hearing, including playing video of Cipollone discussing Trump's response on January 6 to tee up next week's hearing.
While next week is the last planned of this summer series of January 6 public hearings, the select committee has said all along it's not done with its investigation. Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, one of the panel's two Republicans, told the Wall Street Journal in an interview this week that the committee is still considering asking Trump to testify and might request a written response from Pence or issue a subpoena for him to testify.

Dereliction of duty.

You really think that he won.

With inflation running at 40-year highs, and with Joe Biden suffering record lows in his approval ratings, the Republican script for winning back the US House and Senate in November’s midterm elections writes itself. The last thing the party needs, many top Republicans believe, is Trump muddying the message by talking about himself and 2024.

“Trump never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity,” said Frank Luntz, the pollster who has a long track record of advising Republican campaigns. “He has the chance to participate in an amazing, historic Republican resurgence, and instead he’s making everything all about him. That could cost Republicans the majorities.”

Two supporters of Donald Trump cried in court on Friday as they were sentenced for their role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"Two New York state men who led a mob that overwhelmed police at the perimeter of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 — then bodysurfed over the top of the crowd at a building entrance and pepper-sprayed officers — were both sentenced Friday to 44 months in prison," The New York Times reported. "Cody Mattice, 29, of Greece, N.Y., and James Mault, 30, of Brockport, N.Y., both wept as they stood before Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell and asked for leniency, apologizing for their actions and saying they hoped to return soon to their families and young children. But Howell noted that prosecutors had already cut them a reasonable deal by dropping charges that could have led to far more prison time, and she imposed the sentences requested by the government. Only four other Jan. 6 defendants have been sentenced to longer prison terms."

Judge Howell said, "they were not patriots on Jan. 6, and no one who broke the police lines and stopped the democratic process was a patriot that day."

Panel to Dissect Trump’s 187 Minutes of Inaction

“The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol is planning to return to prime time on Thursday for what could be the finale of its summer hearing schedule: a session focused on former President Donald Trump’s 187 minutes of inaction as a mob of his supporters assaulted Congress,” the New York Times reports.

“The hearing, scheduled for 8 p.m. on July 21, is expected to give a detailed account of how Mr. Trump resisted multiple entreaties from staffers, lawyers and even his own family to call off the attack, which raged for hours in the early afternoon of Jan. 6, 2021.”

Gateway Pundit Sends Official Letter to Liz Cheney: You Knew FBI Assets Confirmed Proud Boys Did Not Commit Sedition Yet You Suppressed the Information

On Monday morning TGP contributor Cara Castronuova released whistleblower documents, text messages, and audio transcripts of FBI informant James Knowles’s communications with his FBI handlers on January 6. The evidence exonerates Trump supporters and the Proud Boys of any conspiracy or planning to storm the US Capitol, to enter the US Capitol, or to overthrow official proceedings.

This evidence was first reported by Cara at The Gateway Pundit.

The “planned insurrection” was a lie.
Now we have the proof!

The Gateway Pundit has reported several follow up posts to Cara’s original report.

Darren Beattie from Revolver News confirmed our evidence and reporting in an explosive report earlier today.

On Tuesday The Gateway Pundit sent a letter to Liz Cheney, the voice of the January 6th Select Committee.

We want to know why Liz and her committee decided to hide these facts that they have had in their possession for over a year now that exonerates the Proud Boys.

And we want to know why Liz and her committee have suppressed this information

continues:

whistleblower documents, text messages, and audio transcripts

Wow, not "I read on the bathroom wall" type of "testimony" read from a teleprompter in a show trial

Well I'm sure Liz will bring this up

Or testify under oath when she is defeated and subpoenaed after November elections

There was no conspiracy to invade the Capitol;

The Proud Boys explicitly instructed their members not to instigate violence;

The Proud Boys did not possess guns or other weapons on January 6th;

The Proud Boys did not engage in violence at the Capitol on January 6th;

The FBI likely had real-time access to Proud Boy chats and did, in fact, possess advance knowledge of all protest plans and that those plans were peaceful.

odd she has left this out so far

Does someone have it in for me? Could his name have "Effing" in it?

Ch keeps begging us and other Dems to stop talking, talking, talking about Trump,
but in the interest of free speech, we will not.

Better start begging Trump not to run (a lot of Republicans are hoping he won't. A lot of us Dems are hoping he will, and go ahead and announce SOON!).

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., trails Republican challenger Harriet Hageman by 22% in a poll released Friday, spelling trouble for the anti-Trump Republican's primary next month.

More than half, 52%, of likely primary voters in Wyoming said they would support Hageman, while just 30% expressed support for Cheney, according to the survey conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy on behalf of the Casper, Wyoming, Star Tribune.

The poll, conducted July 7-11 among 1,100 likely voters, showed single-digit support for other Republican primary candidates for Wyoming's sole House seat, and indicated that 11% of voters were undecided.

The Wyoming poll found that the majority of voters disagreed with Cheney's decision to serve on the Jan. 6 Committee (63%), and thought her opposition to Trump hurt her ability to represent Wyoming (61%).

Received a fist bump from a police officer who never asked anyone to leave.

I reminded everyone to not be destructive (they weren’t.)

This moment cost me an 18 month legal battle & 3 months in prison.

Not counting the tremendous financial burden and stigma

Why hasn't released the entire unedited video Jan 6th ?

Just selected, edited cuts to develop a false narrative

Why are democrats scared of showing the truth and clearing things up?

And haven't for 18 long months now

Especially Liz Cheney ?

are they hoping to steal another election and never having to answer questions under oath ?

ANOTHER REPUBLICAN (DAVID BROOKS) WHO TELLS THE TRUTH

William Brangham
(on PBS, interiewing Jonathan Capehart and David Brooks):

Jonathan, the January 6 hearing that we saw this week again made a fairly compelling case trying to tie President Trump's rhetoric towards those people who stormed the Capitol and engaged in that horrendous hand-to-hand combat with police officers.

Do you think that they have made a good case that Trump's language, Trump's rhetoric stirred that horrible day?

Jonathan Capehart:
Yes. Yes, they did.

Look, we have to remember that the January 6 Select Committee is a court, but it's playing to the court of public opinion. And between the documents and the tweets and everything that they showed to make their case, plus the two witnesses there who said — one who said what the president said brought me to Washington, and then you had a former spokesperson for — and I always get — it's either the Oath Keepers or the Proud Boys — but who said, yes, we were there.

William Brangham:
We heard the call.

Jonathan Capehart:
We heard the call, and we were part of operationalizing that.

So, yes, I think the committee has made the connection. And I don't think it's a mystery to the American people. The issue becomes, when you start talking about, is there criminal liability here, should the Justice — will the Justice Department make that — make that leap.

And when you're talking about the court of law, the level of evidentiary proof that you have to have is incredibly high, necessarily. That's getting way down the road. But I do think, after seven, eight hearings, the Select Committee has done an excellent job of telling the American people and showing the American people what was done on January 6, how horrible it was.

And between the hearing on Tuesday and the hearing that's coming up next Thursday, we're going to see with frightening clarity how the president of the United States just allowed it to happen.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

William Brangham [to Brooks]
[David,] what do you think about that? Do you think that they made that case?

David Brooks:
Yes, and it has been unexpected for me. But I think the…

William Brangham:
Unexpected why?

David Brooks:
I didn't think — well, I didn't think they had organized it. I didn't think Trump had organized January 6. I thought it was just like him being his shambolic self.

But there was clearly a lot more planning. We learned even from the Overstock CEO that they had arranged that he was spontaneously going to call for them to go to the — but that was all prearranged.

And then, as Jonathan said, the fact that the — a lot of the guys up there were so carefully paying attention to Trump, so carefully saying, we're going to do what he tells us to do, and so fully expected that he would meet them up at the Capitol, that's all a progression.

And then what we heard last — or two weeks ago about the — him wanting to take out the magnetometers, so these armed guys could have access, that's all a very strong evidentiary chain.

And so, to me, the accumulation is quite powerful. It's interesting how it's affected Trump. I mean, the word now is that he's moving up when he will announce his campaign for president. I think he's doing that to make the indictment harder. He's doing that to…

William Brangham:
You're presenting that as a done deal. You think he's definitely going to run?

David Brooks:
He seems to have told people that he's going to run.

And so I — we will see when we — he walks down the elevator — escalator, whatever it is.
(LAUGHTER)
But I do think he's going to run. I think he's going to announce pretty soon, in part to make the indictment harder, in part to make other challengers more hesitant about getting in.

He's going to fail at that. The New York Times/Siena poll struck me as very important this week that roughly half of Republicans want him to pass and they want to go for another guy. That's just a huge number.

William Brangham:
Right.

David Brooks:
And that cannot be unrelated to these hearings.
____

AMEN, DAVID.
THAT'S WHY CH AND OTHER REPUBLICANS WANT US TO STOP TALKING, TALKING, TALKING ABOUT TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP ALL THE TIME.
BUT WE WON'T, BECAUSE WE SHOULDN'T! IT'S OUR PATRIOTIC DUTY TO EXPOSE HIM FOR WHAT HE IS AND FOR WHAT HE WANTED AND STILL WANTS TO DO, DESTROY DEMOCRACY.

This is what happened to Scott.

Writing on his "The unPopulist" substack platform, former Libertarian Party official and candidate Andy Craig explained why he bailed on his party for selling out its previous beliefs and becoming just another wing of Donald Trump's intolerant MAGA cult.

After pointing out that the party suffered a "recent takeover by a reactionary and populist faction," Craig submitted that "I was an active member of the party for nearly 10 years, until I resigned last year along with many others unwilling to stick around for a takeover by the illiberal far right."

Nowadays, the former party official lamented, "Under the direction of the so-called Mises Caucus, the LP has become home to those who don’t have qualms about declaring Holocaust-denying racists 'fellow travelers' and who don’t think that bigots are necessarily disqualified from the party. "

Noting that the party recently stripped, "We condemn bigotry as irrational and repugnant," from its official platform, Craig stated, "Various members of the new leadership have averred that: Black folks owe America for affirmative action; Pride Month is a plot by degenerates and child molesters aiming for socialism; and a country with zero taxes but more trans murders would be more morally acceptable than the reverse. Though some Mises Caucus figures insist they want to offer solutions to the culture wars, in practice, that means obsessively weighing in on the side of the far right."
