Meanwhile...

Among Republicans, a staggering 76% agree with the Roger Stone quote that there is “a group of politicized thugs at the top of the FBI who are using the FBI . . . as Joe Biden‘s personal Gestapo.” About half (49%) of independents and a sizable 37% of Democrats also view the FBI as Biden’s Gestapo, while 72% of liberals disagree.

How bad is the reputation of the FBI? Over a third of "Democrats" view the FBI as Biden's Gestapo! Only self described "liberals" are overwhelmingly happy with the FBI. Why? Because they believe that our Gestapo FBI should use any means necesary (legal or not) to stop the bad orange man.

I prefer 'STASI' for accuracy, but Gestapo works.

Rasmussen poll.
Roll over laughing.

The winning strategy, Republicans still think, is to engage the fringe, the Fox and the Breitbart and the InFoWars ways of thinking --and then you win elections.

But it didn't work for Trump last time...and...and...and...

Reverend...

Didn't you cite a "YouGov" poll the other day? A pollster that has shown an average of a 7 point overstatement of Democratic support in the past few "generic vote" election polls?

Enough said!

There was a time when most Germans came to feel that they wished their government had employed about any means they could have to stop Adolf Hiter, but by then their nation lay literally in ruins.

We must not let that happen here.

Voters Changed Their Views of Republicans

Amy Walter:
“In May, the Navigator Research survey found that just 43% of voters thought that Democrats were ‘mostly’ or ‘somewhat’ focused on the ‘right things,’ while 49% said Democrats were mostly or somewhat focused on the ‘wrong things.’ Republicans, however, were seen as somewhat more in touch: 47 percent said that Republicans were focused on the right things, while 44% thought they were concentrating on the wrong things.

“By August, however, that GOP advantage had evaporated. Just 42 percent of voters thought the GOP was focused on the right things compared to 51% who said they were focused on the wrong things; a 12-point shift in the wrong direction. Even so, Democrats haven’t made up any ground. A majority (52%), think that Democrats haven’t been focused on the right things, while just 43% think that they have; a three-point shift in the wrong direction since May.”

Signs Democracy Isn’t Totally Broken

Jonathan Bernstein:
“Lots of things are broken right now in US politics. The good news is that there’s new evidence that one important thing is working just fine: When bad things happen presidents get less popular, and when good things happen? Their approval ratings improve.

“Six weeks ago, President Joe Biden’s approval ratings were falling rapidly. That continued into July, eventually reaching a low point of 37.5%, according to FiveThirtyEight. He’s recovered a fair amount, gaining three percentage points over the last 30 days.

“No one can prove why Biden’s numbers have bounced back, but two major drags on American life during his presidency — gas prices and Covid-19 cases — are finally dropping at the same time in recent weeks. Jobs, meanwhile, remain strong while overall inflation is still high, but tailing off. As a result, overall perceptions of the economy are rising.”
