Instead of being humble and conceding their mistakes, they attack voters for thinking of voting against them while overlooking the myriad catastrophes they presided over. They often blame their opponents for what they are guilty of — bigotry, violence — and then end with the "soul" plea.
Last night, the same president who almost exactly a year ago disgracefully abandoned 14,000 Americans and tens of thousands of our allies to the Taliban decided to lecture the US on “the continued battle for the soul of the nation.” Let that sink in for a moment or two.
We saw Joe Biden demonizing the opposition, and attacking millions of Americans during a primetime national speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a completely despicable speech. It was a shocking and dangerously divisive speech, capping off a week of similar attacks.
Biden can't call for unity while denouncing fellow citizens as enemies.

Cannon at a hearing on Thursday indicated she intended to release the documents. She did so after giving both the prosecutors and former President Donald Trump's lawyers the opportunity to lodge any objections to the documents' release. They did not.

He came with receipts: Trump and his allies’ refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election, the effort to install election deniers to key positions across America, the celebration of the violence on Jan. 6, the threats to election workers, FBI agents and other bureaucratic targets, the widespread adoption and fanning of ludicrous conspiracy theories. These are all undeniable features of a segment of the modern GOP — what Biden has labeled “MAGA Republicans.”
That was the threat-to-democracy part of the speech. But there were a few more threads woven together that made the overall address a lot more complicated.
SECOND, there was a more traditional attack on Republican policies.
“MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards, backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love,” Biden said. “They promote authoritarian leaders, and they fanned the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country.”
The first sentence is about the judicial philosophy of the conservative legal movement that long predates Trump. The second sentence is at the heart of concerns about democratic backsliding. The White House has been previewing this theme for a while now: tying long-standing conservative policies to the new anti-democratic impulses coursing through the Trump movement.

I was coming to talk about the speech and well...so I got up, did stuff and when I came back -- the universe I suppose -- I saw something you said and just like that my mood lifted. You're my favorite person until somebody else takes your spot.
Anyway. Biden's speech was passive-aggressive trash. For a better person that could have been an opportunity to speak to our better angels and show America what empathy and compassion looks like.
2020 was hell, voting that year was chaotic, and well Trump certainly made a bad situation worse. America has a punitive culture, so of course some of them must be punished. A true statesman, patriot and good human being would call for understanding, compassion and a bipartisan effort to create a more secure and verifiable voting system throughout the country.
I'm just done. Honestly, I feel stuck in the middle of a bunch of stupid people screaming at each other -- "I'm right, you're wrong! I'm good, you're evil!" None of them are completely any of those things. What's right for one is wrong for another. What's good for one is evil for another. We're just all different -- and just unable to see things the way other people see them.
