Let's be clear. Ron DeSantis has many of the same qualities that Trump is respected for without many of the qualities that undermine the Donald. I would argue that a lion's share of Trump supporters would back DeSantis if he won the nomination. Furthermore, most all of them would back DeSantis if Trump buried whatever hatchet he has imagined in his mind and decided to play nice with the Governor.
At this point, the only way the GOP does not win back the White House in 2024 is if they nominate a knob as their candidate. Almost any reasonable candidate would beat Biden and whoever else is lurking on their weak and short bench. But someone actually competent who can actually win (not just cut into) the minority vote and turn a purple state red, would be the left's worse nightmare.
