This is much more likely the case...

Every Presidential year people make a big deal out of convention bounces, but when all is said and done conventions rarely play the central part in the overall race. Given how early both of the conventions are this year (generally one or the other is after labor day) - they will likely have even less impact.

As my spreadsheet shows (which is more reliant on consistent pollsters and caters less to one or two polls designed to show big swings) - the difference between today and before the two conventions is negligible (less than a point). The You/Gov tracking poll suggests something very similar.

Given your battleground states have already been receiving attention in both advertising and visits by the candidates, it's even less likely that the conventions played much of an effect.  What is shows here is that the race in these battleground states was not altered much, if at all. They are still very much up for grabs.

Actually, the conventions pretty much always occur before Labor Day and usually occur before the Olympics. It wasn't until 2004 that this changed, when the GOP scheduled their convention after the Olympics, despite the Democrats leaving a week between their convention and the Olympics. This was done to hamstring Kerry, who was required to only spend from his general election budget once nominated, and thus every $ spent until Bush was nominated was a $ less to spend afterwards.

In 2008 the Democrats scheduled their convention after the Olympics to neutralize this tactic, and in 2012 the Republicans did the same.

The short version of the story is that Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 9 points, both in a 1-on-1 contest and when the field is expanded to include Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein.

Warren Buffett challenged Donald Trump Monday to discuss their tax returns publicly.

"I'll bring my tax return. He can bring his tax return...Just let people ask us questions about items on there," Buffett said in his introduction of Hillary Clinton at an Omaha rally. "Nobody is going to arrest us. There are no rules against showing your tax returns."

The Omaha billionaire said he's willing to meet Trump any where and any time before Election Day to let the public inquire about their tax filings. Tax returns reveal a lot more about a person's finances than financial statements do, Buffett said.

Trump has resisted releasing his returns, saying he is being audited by the IRS. This breaks with the longstanding tradition that presidential candidates release at least some recent tax returns. It's also unclear whether Mike Pence, Trump's running mate who is Indiana's governor, will make his returns public.

Roger - the difference here is obvious.

I am reading the poll results. They show this to be a closer election than the previous two. In fact, even in the aftermath of the DNC and all of the bad press Trump has been getting (fairly or unfairly)... it's still either candidate's race to win or lose.

You simply cannot - fundamentally cannot - under any circumstances - objectively look at this race. You pretense every description of how the polls are wrong, or how where they will be going, based on your personal opinion of the two candidates.

The first description is one of objectivity. The second is one of deeply ingrained partisanship.

Polycystic liver disease is an inherited disorder characterized by many cysts of various sizes scattered throughout the liver.

Abdominal discomfort from swelling of the liver may occur; however, most affected individuals do not have any symptoms. In some cases, polycystic liver disease appears to occur randomly, with no apparent cause (sporadically). Most cases are inherited as an autosomal dominant genetic trait. Sometimes, cysts are found in the liver in association with the presence of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (AD-PKD). In fact, about half of the people who have AD-PKD experience liver cysts. However, kidney cysts are uncommon in those affected by polycystic liver disease.

Key Economic Adviser to Obama, Hillary Praised Venezuelan Socialism

May 25, 2016

During a visit to Venezuela in 2007, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz was impressed with what he called the “positive policies” of the Hugo Chavez Regime.

Chavez, according to Stiglitz, “appears to have had success in bringing health and education to the people in the poor neighborhoods of Caracas…. It is not only important to have sustainable growth, but to ensure the best distribution of economic growth, for the benefit of all citizens.”

The following year, Stiglitz would be chosen as an economic adviser to a first-term Illinois Senator who would go on to be elected president – and succeed in implementing policies in harmony with the Venezuela-style priorities the economist had lauded. Venezuela’s all-but-unprecedented collapse has not caused Stiglitz to re-assess his views, nor has it diminished his credibility in the eyes of the Democratic Party’s elite: Stiglitz is now one of Hillary Clinton’s leading advisers."

yep he is in love the hillbilly and another socialist Hugo Rafael Chávez .

Venezuela is selling oil for food to Jamaica

Venezuela government could force people to work on farms



Venezuela is selling oil to Jamaica in exchange for food, medicine, farming materials and building supplies.

Jamaica announced last week that it would provide up to $4 million in the form of goods and services to Venezuela.

"You could say that it's goods and services for oil," Dr. Wesley Hughes, CEO of the Jamaican government's PetroCaribe Development Fund, told CNNMoney on Tuesday. "It's going to be up to Venezuela to decide what they need."

This form of payment is part of a trade pact between the two nations.

Venezuela is desperately short on food and medicine. People wait hours outside supermarkets to buy basic goods like milk, eggs and flour, often only to find empty shelves. Others are dying in ill-equipped hospitals. "

Following the receipt of a retraction demand, NBC News has quietly edited the Internet edition of a segment that aired on the highly-rated “Today Show” in which anchor Andrea Mitchell claimed Juanita Broaddrick’s rape accusation against Bill Clinton had been “discredited.”
After receiving the legal letter, penned by Broaddrick’s attorney and son, Kevin L. Hickey, NBC removed the word “discredited” from the network’s Internet version of Mitchell’s video report, Broaddrick and Hickey told this reporter. However, NBC did not make any indication of the edit in the video or on the webpage that hosts it.

Nor did NBC fulfill Broaddrick’s request, which she says was communicated in the letter, for an apology from Mitchell on the “Today Show” as well as an acknowledgement on the show and on NBC’s website that there is no information that Broaddrick’s story has been discredited. Instead, a staffer from NBC informed Hickey that the “discredited” statement had been removed, Broaddrick and Hickey said.

“It is incredibly disappointing that NBC and Andrea Mitchell will not publicly apologize for this egregious error, especially considering that NBC has retroactively edited the online version of the story and taken out the word ‘discredited,’” Hickey told Breitbart News.

“Why not now go the extra step, the morally right step, and publicly acknowledge the mistake and publicly apologize?” he said.

“My mom’s credibility was just fine for Lisa Myers and NBC when the story was initially aired. Nothing has changed. Yet NBC apparently thinks it is okay to disparage a victim like this and then do nothing to rectify the situation.”

A spokesperson for NBC News did not return a Breitbart News request for comment.

Trump refuses to back Ryan, McCain in their primaries
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is refusing to back House Speaker Paul D. Ryan in his upcoming primary election, saying in an interview Tuesday that he is “not quite there yet” in endorsing his party’s top-ranking elected official.

Trump also said he was not supporting Sen. John McCain in his primary in Arizona, and he singled out Sen. Kelly Ayotte as a weak and disloyal leader in New Hampshire, a state whose presidential primary Trump won handily.

With Ryan’s Wisconsin primary scheduled for next Tuesday, Trump praised the House speaker’s underdog opponent, Paul Nehlen, for running “a very good campaign.” Trump said that Ryan has sought his endorsement, but that as of now he is only “giving it very serious consideration.”

“I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country,” Trump said. “We need very strong leadership. We need very, very strong leadership. And I’m just not quite there yet. I’m not quite there yet.”

Trump’s refusal to back Ryan represents an extraordinary breach of political decorum and signals that the Republican Party remains divided two weeks after a national convention in Cleveland staged to showcase party unity.

Scarborough Questions Trump’s Mental Health: He’s ‘Unhinged,’ ‘This is Insanity’
by Alex Griswold | 8:47 am, August 2nd, 2016 VIDEO 1509

ScarboroughMSNBC host Joe Scarborough questioned whether Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was mentally well Tuesday morning, saying that he was no longer the man he knew for twenty years and was getting worse by the day.

“Does it have to do with his mental well-being?” asked Scarborough. “I will tell you why I ask you this. It’s pretty remarkable, I fielded calls all day yesterday from conservatives, from Republicans, from officials, from people that the media would call right-wing bloggers… and everybody was asking me about his mental health.”

“It’s not like there was talking points shot out by the DNC or by anybody else,” he insisted. “Everybody was talking about his mental health yesterday, everybody was calling me saying ‘What’s happening to him? What is wrong with him?’”

“I had lunch yesterday with a friend who is not that politically involved and said somebody has to do a psychological profile of the guy and figure out why he acts the way he acts and is he really healthy,” agreed frequent guest Steve Ratner.

“I’ve known him for a decade,” Scarborough continued. “I’ve never seen him act like this before. It’s unhinged, it’s not the Donald Trump I’ve known for over a decade. I never have seen anything remotely resembling this type of behavior from a guy who I’ve known and liked and called a friend.”

Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin said that he was getting similar calls. “I was hearing that a lot yesterday… people were asking me, why can’t anyone around him get him to stop?”

“There was a time when people could talk to him and say this is damaging you, this is hurting you, for the kids, it hurts the name, it hurts the brand. Don Jr. could have a really good future, but right now this is insanity, what’s happened the past four days,” Scarborough concluded.

wphamilton said...

Roger, a few of us were speculating about this at lunch the other day. Is he really mentally ill, so out of touch with reality? Or is it all a put-on for the election? It could be either one, but some of what Trump comes out with is so out there that it's really hard to believe. Maybe a little of both?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

wp, I'm not qualified to really judge his sanitary. But some who are, have expressed their concern.

I don't understand why he thinks that he has to lash out angrily on almost everything. That's a sign to me, that he really can't stop himself. A compulsive disorder?

It's evident that it's hurting his campaign, but he continues with this behavior.

If he really has that disorder, putting him in the White House, is frightening.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

One more thing.

Nate Silver has second thoughts on Clinton's chances.

There are some hints that Clinton’s post-convention lead over Trump will eventually settle in at about 7 percentage points, give or take a couple points. The biggest tip-off is that both the national polls and the state polls we’ve seen so far look similar to the ones we were seeing in June, when Clinton maintained a lead over Trump of about 7 points after wrapping up the Democratic nomination. Since Clinton and Trump were roughly tied after the GOP convention, a 7-point lead for Clinton would mean she’d gotten about a 7-point bounce, double the size of Trump’s.

Whitman, who made her decision public on Facebook, didn't pull any punches and explained why she's voting for Clinton in clear detail:

As a proud Republican, casting my vote for President has usually been a simple matter. This year is different. To vote Republican out of party loyalty alone would be to endorse a candidacy that I believe has exploited anger, grievance, xenophobia and racial division.
