The great disseminater?

Was it Susan Rice who ordered
 the unmasking of Trump associates?
Reports are now out suggesting that Susan Rice may have have been the high ranking official responsible for the criminal unmasking of people like General Flynn. To be fair, these reports are currently circulating on the "right" side of the media at this point, but then again you would be hard pressed to find anyone on the "left" side of the media even suggesting that there is a story.

(Update: The story is now being reported by more than just Breitbart and Drudge. It's now being covered by FOX News, Bloomberg, and other mainstream media outlets.)

The reality is that we are 100% positive that someone reported the information on General Flynn's conversation with the Russian Ambassador. Short of there being legal court ordered monitoring of General Flynn along with a very clear legal reason to make the monitored information public, this action constitutes a felony.

As National Security Adviser to the President, Susan Rice fits the description of the sort of high ranking intelligence official being named. She certainly would have had access to any surveillance and the means to leak it. At this point, both the ranking members of the House intelligence committee has at least some of this information. Whether or not it confirms Susan Rice, time will tell. If it is, the question becomes... what did Obama know and when did he know it?

While some may never get closure on the "Trump collusion" conspiracy theory... there is a much better chance we will determine who leaked the identities of the Trump officials. Moreover the Attorney General has made it clear that once all the ducks are in a row that charges will be brought.

Imagine the outrage and devastation from our liberal friends, if the only thing that comes from all of this Russian hoopla is a high ranking Obama official being charged with a crime.

Why are news sources such as the Washington Post calling this a phony scandal? Spying on the other party is what got Nixon in trouble, and I see tell-tales of a cover-up now as well.

Intercepting communications of Americans is legal, when the other party is a foreign national under surveillance. When the American is the target under surveillance, it's not legal without a warrant. Identifying the American, and disseminating the contents of the discussions is definitely illegal. The burning questions are, who was privy to this information and what did they want with it? What was it used for? Did Obama know about it? Either of the Clintons?

Although the seriousness of the Russian connection is contrived, for reasons I outlined earlier, this scandal is different. The use of our own Intelligence services against an opposition candidate is a direct threat to our Democracy, which is easily grasped by any citizen. If true, there is a more serious potential for prosecution than any e-mail server stupidity. Not the least reason, if this information has any dotted lines back into Clinton campaign officials from Clinton associates in the Justice or State departments, the motivation can be assumed and malicious intent established.

While General Flynn may have had some reason to believe that a Russian Ambassador was under surveillance, the law is clear that his conversations would be subject to classification as an American citizen, and his privacy would be protected by law.

Now you could argue that he should have been aware that someone might break the law and use it against him, and boy oh boy wasn't he stupid for putting it out there...

But that's basically the same argument that a flirty girl with a low cut blouse and high cut skirt had it coming when she is later raped in the parking lot of the bar she was at.

Here's a hint: no one really cares if Trump Tower was wiretapped, except for maybe Trump. But surveillance of presidential campaign officials is politically explosive, with serious criminal ramifications.

Keep on not caring, but remember what I told you if this proves to be true. The email server was a yawner for some people also and turned out to help cost Clinton the election, but this has much greater potential.

White House lawyers last month learned that the former national security adviser Susan Rice requested the identities of U.S. persons in raw intelligence reports on dozens of occasions that connect to the Donald Trump transition and campaign, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

The pattern of Rice's requests was discovered in a National Security Council review of the government's policy on "unmasking" the identities of individuals in the U.S. who are not targets of electronic eavesdropping, but whose communications are collected incidentally. Normally those names are redacted from summaries of monitored conversations and appear in reports as something like "U.S. Person One."

The Hill FAKE NEWS.
Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice on Sunday blasted President Trump for his order making changes to the National Security Council (NSC).

"This is stone cold crazy. After a week of crazy," the former Obama administration official tweeted.

"Who needs military advice or intell to make policy on ISIL, Syria, Afghanistan, DPRK?"

The president signed an executive action on Saturday that adds White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon to the NSC and removes the director of national intelligence and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stating they "shall attend where issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed."

Rice shared a tweet that said: "Trump loves and trusts the military so much he just kicked them out of the National Security Council and put in a Nazi in their place."

The NSC memo said the change reflected that "security threats facing the United States in the 21st century transcend international boundaries."

"Accordingly, the United States Government's decision-making structures and processes to address these challenges must remain equally adaptive and transformative," the memorandum stated.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said on ABC's "This Week" that Rice's comments were "clearly inappropriate language from a former ambassador."

It appears to be FAKE RIGHT WING NEWS.

Conservatives are seizing on a report that former national security advisor Susan Rice requested the identity of anonymous people named in intelligence reports, claiming that it provides evidence for President Trump’s false claim that Trump Tower was wiretapped.
Bloomberg’s Eli Lake reported Monday that Rice requested the “unmasking” of third parties whose information is collected during targeted surveillance of other individuals. Conservative media jumped on the claim and reported that it corroborates Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee’s allegation that information about Trump’s transition team had been “incidentally collected” during U.S. government surveillance of foreign officials.
But the reports, which originated from the far-right, fringe corners of the internet, do not reveal any illegal activity or violation of privacy laws. They also provide no support for President Trump’s still entirely-unsubstantiated claim that the Obama administration’s surveillance targeted Trump officials.
Funneled from the far right
Susan Rice’s involvement in the unmasking was first reported by far-right extremist Mike Cernovich, who published a story on Medium Sunday alleging that the mainstream media has been attempting to cover up the revelation.
“This reporter has been informed that Maggie Haberman has had this story about Susan Rice for at least 48 hours, and has chosen to sit on it in an effort to protect the reputation of former President Barack Obama,” Cernovich wrote.
Cernovich, a white nationalist, misogynist, and a key figure in the Pizzagate controversy, has been called the “meme mastermind of the alt-right.”
Less than 24 hours later, Bloomberg’s Eli Lake picked up the same reports on Rice’s activity, citing “U.S. officials familiar with the matter.”

Unlike Cernovich, Lake noted that Rice’s unmasking “does not vindicate Trump’s own tweets from March 4 in which he accused Obama of illegally tapping Trump Tower.” Lake did not allege that Rice’s activity is unlawful, but he did write that her actions “highlight a longstanding concern” about surveillance programs.
“[Rice’s] role in requesting the identities of Trump transition officials adds an important element to the dueling investigations surrounding the Trump White House since the president’s inauguration,” Lake wrote.
Within hours, headlines highlighting Rice’s involvement appeared across the conservative internet on sites including Breitbart News, the Daily Caller, the Washington Times, the Washington Examiner, the New York Post, and Gateway Pundit.
In the Washington Examiner, David Fredosso wrote that “Eli Lake has the story that everybody should be talking about today.”
On Fox News, reporter Adam Housley called the unmasking “unprecedented” and stoked anger by claiming that the “names of Americans who had done nothing wrong was disseminated to all of the NSC, some at DOD, Clapper, Brennan, basically the people at the top.” Shortly after, Trump tweeted about the segment.

Though Prince had no formal role with the Trump campaign or transition team, he presented himself as an unofficial envoy for Trump to high-ranking Emiratis involved in setting up his meeting with the Putin confidant, according to the officials, who did not identify the Russian.

Prince was an avid supporter of Trump. After the Republican convention, he contributed $250,000 to Trump’s campaign, the national party and a pro-Trump super PAC led by GOP mega-donor Rebekah Mercer, records show. He has ties to people in Trump’s circle, including Stephen K. Bannon, now serving as the president’s chief strategist and senior counselor. Prince’s sister Betsy DeVos serves as education secretary in the Trump administration. And Prince was seen in the Trump transition offices in New York in December.

U.S. officials said the FBI has been scrutinizing the Seychelles meeting as part of a broader probe of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election and alleged contacts between associates of Putin and Trump. The FBI declined to comment.

The Seychelles encounter, which one official said spanned two days, adds to an expanding web of connections between Russia and Americans with ties to Trump — contacts that the White House has been reluctant to acknowledge or explain until they have been exposed by news organizations.

“We are not aware of any meetings and Erik Prince had no role in the transition,” said Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary.

A Prince spokesman said in a statement: “Erik had no role on the transition team. This is a complete fabrication. The meeting had nothing to do with President Trump. Why is the so-called under-resourced intelligence community messing around with surveillance of American citizens when they should be hunting terrorists?”

Prince is best known as the founder of Blackwater, a security firm that became a symbol of U.S. abuses in Iraq after a series of incidents including one in 2007 in which the company’s guards were accused — and later criminally convicted — of killing civilians in a crowded Iraqi square. Prince sold the firm, which was subsequently rebranded, but has continued building a private paramilitary empire with contracts across the Middle East and Asia. He now heads a Hong Kong-based company known as the Frontier Services Group.

Where is the state department?

Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, flew into Iraq on Monday with the top U.S. general to get a first-hand assessment of the battle against Islamic State from U.S. commanders on the ground and Iraqi leaders.

For Kushner, who has not been to Iraq before, the trip comes at a critical time as Trump examines ways to accelerate a U.S.-led coalition campaign that U.S. and Iraqi officials say has so far been largely successful in uprooting Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

The visit appears to demonstrate the far-reaching portfolio of Kushner, 36, who is part of Trump's innermost circle and who has been given a wide range of domestic and foreign policy responsibilities, including working on a Middle East peace deal.

Marine General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he invited Kushner and Tom Bossert, White House homeland security adviser, to accompany him so they could hear "first-hand and unfiltered" from military advisers about the situation on the ground and interact with U.S. forces.

"I said, 'Hey, next time I go to Iraq, if you're interested, come and it’d be good," Dunford said, adding he extended the invitation weeks ago.

That kind of ground-level awareness of the war helps inform strategic decisions, Dunford said, adding it was the same reason he regularly leaves Washington to visit Iraq.

"The more appreciation you could have for what's actually happening on the ground, the more informed you are when you start talking about the strategic issues," Dunford said.

Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, did not speak with reporters.

Kuschner has no qualifications. Is the President sane?

Thing Roger missed in his hyperventilation:

Let’s say it’s all true, though. What did Trump supposedly do wrong? WaPo notes that the FBI took an interest in the meeting because of its Russiagate probe and I suppose there’ll be some harrumphing about a Logan Act violation since technically Trump wasn’t president yet when it happened, but as one expert told WaPo, informal back-channel talks involving surrogates “as a tool of diplomacy is as old as the hills.” The Obama administration used them after taking office to see whether Iran was open to improving ties. If the Seychelles meeting had had a nefarious purpose related to, say, the presidential campaign, then you’d be looking at a nuclear scandal, but the alleged purpose here was virtuous — to isolate Iran diplomatically in the Middle East, an unsurprising goal of the Trump White House given the influence of Iran hawks (most notably Mattis and, previously, Mike Flynn) within the administration.

Meanwhile back to Susan Rice.

White House logs indicate Susan Rice consumed unmasked intel on Trump associates

Computer logs that former President Obama’s team left behind in the White House indicate his national security adviser Susan Rice accessed numerous intelligence reports during Obama's last seven months in office that contained National Security Agency intercepts involving Donald Trump and his associates, Circa has learned.

Intelligence sources said the logs discovered by National Security Council staff suggested Rice’s interest in the NSA materials, some of which included unmasked Americans' identities, appeared to begin last July around the time Trump secured the GOP nomination and accelerated after Trump’s election in November launched a transition that continued through January.

The intelligence reports included some intercepts of Americans talking to foreigners and many more involving foreign leaders talking about the future president, his campaign associates or his transition, the sources said. Most if not all had nothing to do with the Russian election interference scandal, the sources said, speaking only on condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of the materials.

Ordinarily, such references to Americans would be redacted or minimized by the NSA before being shared with outside intelligence sources, but in these cases, names were sometimes unmasked at the request of Rice or the intelligence reports were specific enough that the American’s identity was easily ascertained, the sources said.

The exact national security justifications for Rice accessing the reports isn’t clear and may require additional documentation that the House and Senate intelligence committees have requested from the NSA, America’s lead agency in spying on foreign powers.

How the information was disseminated beyond Rice will also be a potential focus of congressional oversight, since lawmakers may want to know if it was briefed to Obama or shared with members of her larger circle of advisers, like deputy Ben Rhodes.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Of far more importance, is this.

Juan Williams is an author, and a political analyst for Fox News Channel.

Juan Williams: Trump's risk of impeachment rises,

Liberals could yet see their dreams come true.

Last week, a new poll from the liberal outfit Public Policy Polling (PPP) asked Americans if President Trump should resign if evidence emerges that his campaign worked with Russia to help defeat Hillary Clinton. A majority, 53 percent, said he should resign.

That is important because PPP also found that 44 percent of Americans already believe that Trump’s campaign did just that.

It is no fantasy to say the drip-drip-drip of the Trump-Russia investigations is draining this presidency of political capital. The president’s historically high disapproval rating — 51 percent in the latest McClatchy poll — tells the same story.

That’s why astute Republicans are starting to look out for themselves.

snip

Meanwhile in the Senate, Democrats are united behind Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the Intelligence Committee’s vice-chairman, who holds the upper hand over the Republican chairman, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina.

The minute Warner says Burr is acting to protect Trump, the committee’s entire credibility will crumble.

Burr has announced plans to interview Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner, as part of the investigation. Trump associates Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Carter Page have also volunteered to testify.

snip

The good news for Democrats is that the White House is not very good at distracting anyone from the Russia scandal.

White House aides got caught leaking documents to Nunes in an attempt to shift media attention to charges of potentially illegal surveillance of Trump campaign officials.

That backfired when the names of the White House aides ended up in The New York Times. One of the men, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, a 30-year-old at the National Security Council, had recently been targeted for dismissal by his boss H.R. McMaster, the national security adviser. Cohen-Watnick had to appeal to the president to save his job.

In this chaos, Democrats have the luxury of watching and expressing apolitical regret. After all, most of the Democratic base views still views Trump as a racist, a huckster, a sexual predator and an illegitimate president.

Democrats have also been emboldened by the health care debacle. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) literally took off her shoes and jumped for joy with protestors outside the Capitol after the vote was pulled.

It has been said that predictions make fools of us all. The campaign and the election that brought Trump to power certainly proved that, since the majority of the media — myself included — predicted he would not win.

But it is no liberal fantasy to say the odds of a Trump resignation or impeachment before 2020 are looking better by the day.

There is also from credible sources, there are significant worries about the mental problems Mr Trump has repeatedly looked like. He's fucking nuts

Blackwater founder held secret Seychelles meeting to establish Trump-Putin back channel

he United Arab Emirates arranged a secret meeting in January between Blackwater founder Erik Prince and a Russian close to President Vladimir Putin as part of an apparent effort to establish a back-channel line of communication between Moscow and President-elect Donald Trump, according to U.S., European and Arab officials.

The meeting took place around Jan. 11 — nine days before Trump’s inauguration — in the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean, officials said. Though the full agenda remains unclear, the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would be likely to require major concessions to Moscow on U.S. sanctions.

A senior Trump administration official called the suggestion of a Trump-Putin back-channel "ridiculous." Asked about the matter, UAE Ambassador to the U.S. Yousef al Otaiba told NBC News, "No comment." Pressed on whether he could provide any context on any basis, he said, "Not on this one."

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Monday night added, "We are not aware of any meetings and Erik Prince had no role in the transition."

The meeting took place around Jan. 11, The Post reported and NBC News sources confirmed — nine days before Trump's inauguration — in the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean.

The Post said the UAE agreed to broker the meeting in part to explore whether Russia could be persuaded to curtail its relationship with Iran, including in Syria, a Trump administration objective that would likely require major concessions to Moscow on U.S. sanctions.

Prince, who founded the Blackwater firm that became a private security provider for the U.S. government in Iraq, is the brother of Betsy DeVos, the education secretary in the Trump administration.

He was seen in the Trump transition offices in New York in December. Prince contributed $250,000 last year to support the Trump campaign and pro-Trump super-PACs, according to the Post. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/blackwater-founder-held-secret-seychelles-meeting-to-establish-trump-putin-back-channel/2017/04/03/95908a08-1648-11e7-ada0-1489b735b3a3_story.html?hpid=hp_hp-banner-main_no-name%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.ec70ccb53b4e

he good news for Democrats is that the White House is not very good at distracting anyone from the Russia scandal.

The first paragraph tells us all we need to know, on the Eli Lake story that trapped our esteemed host in a nest of lies.

White House lawyers last month learned that the former national security adviser Susan Rice requested the identities of U.S. persons in raw intelligence reports on dozens of occasions that connect to the Donald Trump transition and campaign, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

White House lawyers< Those three words show us that Eli Lake got taken to the cleaners.

This has been called out by the entire real media, as nothing new, illegal or unethical.

This is never going to happen, CH. You got stuck in a spider's nest

Just the facts, twit. I noted that several of you said I wasn't going to address this, because they believed that it was a huge story. It's not and it will disappear by tomorrow morning, except on The Drudge Report. The major source of posts here.

alky,

just by the way you are acting -

furiously, with the "nothing to see here, move along" schtick, means that there is a big pile of shit brewing over this story.

i haven't seen you this frantic in a while.

That's all you have. Pity

all "i" have?

LOL.

all i have is an interest in the story. you otoh, are like a cat wired on a 3-day coke binge trying to cover a turd in a litter box.

slow down and relax, son. you need your strength and stamina to stay afloat on the 32-proof liver of yours.

you guys should've just accepted queenie's defeat and moved on, admitting that you ran the shittiest candidate in my lifetime. but as the left often does, you over-reached with some cock-a-mamie story about trump being putin's manchurian candidate and look at where you are. for chrissakes, even lil schiffty has gone silent.

so strap on that pussy hat of yours good and tight and let's see what today brings. and you can spare us the avalanche of liberal excuses and diversions. rice is the most prolific liar of the 0linsky regime, perhaps even more prolific than 0linsky himself. her credibility, like yours, is totally shot.

Meanwhile back to Susan Rice.

White House logs indicate Susan Rice consumed unmasked intel on Trump associates

What was Rice's title, menstral child??? Reviewing intel seems to part of her job description doesn't it??? Unless you and the leaker have proof she outed flynn....you got less than nothing. Merry fitzmas. LOL

Now you have betsey's brother meeting in trumps name.... Not going to be another good week for the donnie or R's....just sayin...

Myballs said...

Clearly headbaked is posting as much diversion as he can. He knows this susan rice thing is serious.

And the guy who first broke the story, mike something, says he didn't get it from intel sources. He got it from a mainstream media contact at a news company that was sitting on it.

The media is part of the reason Trump got elected.

Meanwhile back to Susan Rice:

Susan Rice Ordered Spy Agencies To Produce ‘Detailed Spreadsheets’ Involving Trump

Former President Barack Obama’s national security adviser Susan Rice ordered U.S. spy agencies to produce “detailed spreadsheets” of legal phone calls involving Donald Trump and his aides when he was running for president, according to former U.S. Attorney Joseph diGenova.

“What was produced by the intelligence community at the request of Ms. Rice were detailed spreadsheets of intercepted phone calls with unmasked Trump associates in perfectly legal conversations with individuals,” diGenova told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group Monday.

“The overheard conversations involved no illegal activity by anybody of the Trump associates, or anyone they were speaking with,” diGenova said. “In short, the only apparent illegal activity was the unmasking of the people in the calls.”

Other knowledgeable official sources with direct knowledge and who requested anonymity confirmed to The DCNF diGenova’s description of surveillance reports Rice ordered one year before the 2016 presidential election.

Also on Monday, Fox News and Bloomberg News, citing multiple sources reported that Rice had requested the intelligence information that was produced in a highly organized operation. Fox said the unmasked names of Trump aides were given to officials at the National Security Council (NSC), the Department of Defense, James Clapper, President Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, and John Brennan, Obama’s CIA Director.

Joining Rice in the alleged White House operations was her deputy Ben Rhodes, according to Fox.

Let's let that sink in. A high level administration official ordered the identities of wiretapped American citizens be revealed for no legal or national security purpose.

The fact that a presidential administration would abuse the FISA law to spy on political opponents should chill all Americans to the bone.

opie said...

Again....what is her title, menstral child? What is the source???? Multiple sources??? Yep, really got some good stuff here. And do you know there was no national security purpose for release??? Let the investigation be concurrent with flynns's forgetting about monies earned from russia. Daily caller is not a credible source for unbiased news.

Another precedent set by Obama. Liberals will whine and stomp their little feet when this is done by a Republican administration.

Paybacks are a bitch.

Well, I'm amused. I checked out the story that you seem to believe, that it's a big fucking story. Even Reuters doesn't have the story on their front page on the website. Bottom line line:
If the story is true, it's not illegal, nor is it unethical.

These would be violations of the federal wiretap and telecommunication laws, as well as Bill of Rights violations.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the only legal way that Rice may have intercepted Trump associate communications without a court order, requires among other things, "Minimization procedures" that explicitly protect the identities of American citizens, who moreover, can NOT have been the target of the surveillance. The "unmasking" of them can ONLY be authorized if there is evidence of a crime, or if NECESSARY to understand the intelligence. It could very well be that Rice did commit a crime, and regardless her actions were certainly unethical.

wphamilton said...

So, like I said earlier Roger, the burning question is why did Rice want this information, and what was it used for after she disseminated it?

opie said...

and what was it used for after she disseminated it?

To whom did she distribute it to??. As to the why, she was in charge and had a need to know since she ran the place. Isn't it incumbent on the boss to know what is going on????

wphamilton said...

That's not how it's codified in law, opie. She needs more than "since she ran the place", or else may (technically) be liable to civil and criminal penalties.

opie said...

he needs more than "since she ran the place", or else may (technically) be liable to civil and criminal penalties.

No disrespect WP....running the place requires her need to know what the intel says. Has nothing to do with code, it has to do with security requirements and she unquestionably had a need to know. The releasing of the info is another discussion as those requirements to me are very open to interpretation. Having worked in the spook world, the need to know is the thresh hold when dealing with classified information.

wphamilton said...

Opie, if "running the place" granted plenary power, we wouldn't need a Bill of Rights.

50 U.S. Code Chapter 36 - FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE

You need to read 50 U.S. Code § 1806 - Use of information:

Information acquired from an electronic surveillance conducted pursuant to this subchapter concerning any United States person may be used and disclosed by Federal officers and employees without the consent of the United States person only in accordance with the minimization procedures required by this subchapter. No otherwise privileged communication obtained in accordance with, or in violation of, the provisions of this subchapter shall lose its privileged character. No information acquired from an electronic surveillance pursuant to this subchapter may be used or disclosed by Federal officers or employees except for lawful purposes.

Emphasis added.

wphamilton said...

By the way, read part (b) below that as well.

None of that information can be LEGALLY disclosed unless it is used in a criminal proceeding. AND authorized by the Attorney General. So, technically if Rice did disseminate any information from those intercepted calls of Trump associates, and there was no criminal proceeding, she has violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Commonsense said...

As Brit Hume said; "Susan Rice is not an investigator, she's a political operative."

In other words since she's not a criminal investigator or an intelligence analysis, she didn't have a need to know.
