Liberal Logic...

  • Hillary Clinton deletes 30,000 emails, then wipes her server clean "after" receiving a federal subpoena to turn it over.
  • The AG met in secret with Bill Clinton just before announcement regarding the investigation.
  • All of the aids that were thought to potential co-defendants were given criminal immunity by the AG.
  • The AG made sure that the FBI was never allowed to question Clinton under oath.
  • The evidence gathered by the FBI was never allowed to reach a Grand Jury for possible indictment.

But it's Donald Trump who should be charged with obstruction of Justice?

BREAKING: Trump separately asked two top intelligence officials to publicly deny that there was any collusion with Russia, officials say

President Trump asked two of the nation’s top intelligence officials in March to help him push back against an FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government, according to current and former officials.

Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election.

Coats and Rogers refused to comply with the requests, which they both deemed to be inappropriate, according to two current and two former officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private communications with the president.

Trump sought the assistance of Coats and Rogers after FBI Director James B. Comey told the House Intelligence Committee on March 20 that the FBI was investigating “the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”

Trump’s conversation with Rogers was documented contemporaneously in an internal memo written by a senior NSA official, according to the officials. It is unclear if a similar memo was prepared by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to document Trump’s conversation with Coats. Officials said such memos could be made available to both the special counsel now overseeing the Russians. investigation and congressional investigators, who might explore whether Trump sought to impede the FBI’s work.

Conservative Hypocrisy is calling documented stories showing that the President tried to pressure the national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, is false, or even if true?

So what?

2:Drain the Swamp.

The Trump administration, in a significant escalation of its clash with the government’s top ethics watchdog, has moved to block an effort to disclose the names of former lobbyists who have been granted waivers to work in the White House or federal agencies.

The latest conflict came in recent days when the White House, in a highly unusual move, sent a letter to Walter M. Shaub Jr., the head of the Office of Government Ethics, asking him to withdraw a request he had sent to every federal agency for copies of the waivers. In the letter, the administration challenged his legal authority to demand the information.

Mr. Shaub returned a scalding, 10-page response to the White House late Monday, unlike just about any correspondence in the history of the office, created after the Nixon Watergate scandal, and the White House.

“O.G.E. declines your request to suspend its ethics inquiry and reiterates its expectation that agencies will fully comply with its directive,” Mr. Shaub wrote in a letter he also sent to every federal agency ethics officer, six members of Congress who oversee government operations and the inspector generals from agencies governmentwide. “Public confidence in the integrity of government decision making demands no less.”

As President Trump tours the Middle East, the eyes of the entire world have turned toward the region and the issues that all of us at J Street care about so deeply.

The president flew directly from Saudi Arabia to Israel on the first direct flight ever between the two countries -- a symbol of the potential for Arab-Israeli cooperation that Trump has indicated he hopes to build on this trip and beyond.

On the first leg of his journey, the president emphasized his desire to unite the world in opposition to extremism -- and in pursuit of peace.

He clearly played to his Saudi hosts with his promises of regional partnership -- underlined by a massive arms sale agreement and fierce rhetoric directed at Iran. Referring to Islam, Judaism and Christianity, he stated that, “If these three faiths can join together in cooperation, then peace in this world is possible -- including peace between Israelis and Palestinians.”

For any president, let alone one as embattled as Trump, making progress on the conflict would be difficult. While Israeli and Palestinian leaders line up to praise and welcome the president, they are watching to see what steps he will actually take -- and how seriously he is committed to a two-state solution.

Before the president even touched down, we’ve seen signs of divisions within the Israeli government over how to treat his peace overtures. In a positive gesture, the Israeli security cabinet voted to approve a series of economic measures designed to help Palestinian economic development and movement in the West Bank -- a move that the White House welcomed in a statement.

But while Prime Minister Netanyahu pushed the measures through, his hard-line coalition partners in the cabinet opposed them -- as they oppose the two-state solution and virtually any steps toward peace. So while Netanyahu attempts to placate Trump, he is also responding to continuing political pressures from his right-wing base.

We’ve seen evidence of that pressure on the issue of Jerusalem -- where President Trump today became the first sitting US president to visit the Western Wall. In the lead-up, the Israeli government attempted to have Prime Minister Netanyahu included in the visit to the Wall. Had the president’s team acceded to the Israelis’ request, that could have represented a major change in US policy. When it comes to this conflict, even seemingly minor questions can have huge consequences.

james said...

Clearly, finding a way forward to deal with these issues and address concerns on both sides won’t be easy -- but these are the challenges that any serious peacemaker must confront. Going forward, will President Trump publicly back the two-state solution, and show the resolve and seriousness of purpose needed to move both sides forward? Will he ensure that the members of his administration speak with one voice, instead of advancing competing visions of US goals and policy in Jerusalem and beyond?

Speaking on the tarmac after his arrival today, the president said, “We have before us a rare opportunity to bring security and stability and peace to this region and to its people, defeating terrorism and creating a future of harmony, prosperity and peace. But we can only get there working together. There is no other way.”

There can be no doubt: There is major opportunity for the US to help bring together Israelis, Palestinians and Arab nations to transform a destructive status quo and build a better future. Arab nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE appear poised to offer partial normalization to Israel in exchange for significant steps, like a settlement freeze, that would move in the direction of a two-state solution.

But taking advantage of this historic opportunity will require determined leadership and commitment to speaking hard truths and making tough decisions. If President Trump wants to bring that kind of leadership to the issue, he needs to take steps to demonstrate it.

CH,

I have no problem with your post, but it's irrelevant to the continuing serial of Trump actions that keep showing up.

He pressured Comey, then fired him. He went to the CIA and the Director if the Intelligence services and again over an over again, tries to stop all investigations into his connection with the Russians. I know you keep claiming there is no evidence of Russian cooperation with the Russian government. But if he's innocent, why is he so determined to stop any inquiry.

Then one of his top themes was "Drain the swamp", his administration is attempting to leave all alligators alone. This is very unusual.

Trump Asked Intelligence Chiefs to Push Back on Probe

President Trump “asked two of the nation’s top intelligence officials in March to help him push back against an FBI investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and the Russian government,” the Washington Post reports.

“Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election.

“Coats and Rogers refused to comply with the requests, which they both deemed to be inappropriate.”

Why did neither of them claim it was illegal?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I think we are missing the point, both of us perhaps.

This isn't a debate between the liberals and a conservative Republican President. It is drawn to that because of the repeated, highly unusual and possibly dangerous actions by the President. If i was Ted Cruz v the liberals would be a classic American situation.

You have admitted that President is somewhat irresponsible, but it's not on ideology, it's competence.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The reporter did not claim it was illegal and so far, I haven't seen anyone with convincing evidence on he legality of his actions. Trump asked the DNI, NSA director to push back on the collusion probe.

Illegal? I'm not a lawyer, but it is obviously, at least to me, that it is entirely inappropriate. Can we agree on that? And let's be honest, why is he constantly attempting to stop any inquiry.

It isn't stopping him from performing the duties of the President.

james said...

by not complying with the request, they were making it clear that it was both illegal and inappropriate

but I agree. They should have put the President in handcuffs. ;-)

C.H. Truth said...

So to be clear here Roger...

This is very simple to me. Did he ask them to lie for him?

It seems sort of a strange situation... where you find it perfectly acceptable for every Democrat out there to be calling for impeachment, to be pushing the Russian collusion narrative (without any evidence), trying to blur the lines between Washington protocol and legality...

All in a coordinated attempt to make the President and his team appear to be a bunch of criminals...

But you find it unacceptable that the President would want to push back by asking someone to tell the truth in public?

You are misinterpreting my question. We don't "know" that the President is telling the "truth". You are assuming we know that Mr Trump and or his campaign did not haved irresponsible contact with he Russians. We don't know the answer. You assume we know. If you do, then you know more than anyone in the DOJ, FBI, NDI, and CIA,

So he asked them to know what they did not know.
That's lying, and it's inappropriate.

Roger -

It's not about the President telling the truth. It's whether or not the Intelligence directors were asked to lie.

Those agencies either have evidence or they don't.

If they don't have any evidence of improper or illegal collusion between the hackers and the Trump team... why should anyone have a problem with the public knowing this?

It's not about the President telling the truth. It's whether or not the Intelligence directors were asked to lie. Where are you coming with that comment. Who would ask the directors to lie about the President? If so, why" If not, but are just trying to get to the truth. I think that is their motive. You assume they want to lie. Why?

Those agencies either have evidence or they don't. We don't know if they know or not. That's what the inquirer wants to know.

If they don't have any evidence of improper or illegal collusion between the hackers and the Trump team... why should anyone have a problem with the public knowing this?

We don't know if they have no evidence of illegal collusion between the hackers and the Trump team? Unless we are allowed to conduct search for he truth or not that the public has the right to know. Trump is attempting to stop any inquiries and why? Other than assuming they are plotting to get him. Which I have to assume is what you believe.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Trump would be dumb to not lawyer up. The White House lawyers represent the White House, not the President.

C.H. Truth said...

We don't know if they have no evidence of illegal collusion between the hackers and the Trump team?

Actually these intelligence directors would know if they had evidence or not.

Why should they "hide" this information from the public?
Why would you want them to "hide" this information?
Doesn't the public have a right to know if they have evidence?

The Senate Intelligence committee has admitted that they had seen no evidence. The House Intelligence committee has admitted that they had seen no evidence.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

This story has uncomfortable similarity between Trump and Nixon. Nixon tried to get he CIA to shut down the FBI inquirer.

More from the Post and the discomfort by the President tries to stop any further inquires.

Current and former officials said that Trump either lacks an understanding of the FBI’s role as an independent law enforcement agency or does not care about maintaining such boundaries.

Trump’s effort to use the director of national intelligence and the NSA director to dispute Comey’s statement and to say there was no evidence of collusion echoes President Richard Nixon’s “unsuccessful efforts to use the CIA to shut down the FBI’s investigation of the Watergate break-in on national security grounds,” said Jeffrey H. Smith, a former general counsel at the CIA. Smith called Trump’s actions “an appalling abuse of power.”

Trump made his appeal to Coats days after Comey’s testimony, according to officials.

That same week, Trump telephoned Rogers to make a similar appeal.

In his call with Rogers, Trump urged the NSA director to speak out publicly if there was no evidence of collusion, according to officials briefed on the exchange.

Rogers was taken aback but tried to respectfully explain why he could not do so, the officials said. For one thing, he could not comment on an ongoing investigation. Rogers added that he would not talk about classified matters in public.

While relations between Trump and Comey were strained by the Russia probe, ties between the president and the other intelligence chiefs, including Rogers, Coats and CIA Director Mike Pompeo, appear to be less contentious, according to officials.

Rogers met with Trump in New York shortly after the election, and Trump’s advisers at the time held him out as the leading candidate to be the next director of national intelligence.

Hmm..they just want to lie about Trump, so says our host. Interesting from someone who is worried about emails more than the possibility that the Russians, who did play a role in our election, with wiki leaks and hacking of the DNC servers may have worked with the President. So why does he keep trying to stop the questioning. The appointment of a prosecuting attorney has to be making the President very uncomfortable for some reason the public has the right to know.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The Senate Intelligence committee has admitted that they had seen no evidence. The House Intelligence committee has admitted that they had seen no evidence.

They have not done in deep investigations, some of them with doubtful political reasons for not finding anything. The fact that they don't know CH is the final answer. And again, why in hell is Trump taking all the steps he has? Firing Comey, asking the two intelligence services to drop the inquiry.

C.H. Truth said...

I don't know Roger...

If there were several investigations into you and the people around you that have been going on for nearly a year... and not one of them has so far uncovered any sort of evidence of the allegations. (Confirmed by Senate, House, and former Director of National Intelligence)

How would "YOU" feel about it?

More to the point, most legal experts cannot even identify the crime that we are supposedly investigating. The only "crime" that anyone can actually identify here is the hacking of the Emails. The intelligence community has admitted that their conclusions about the Russian government being responsible is not based on "hard evidence" - but rather mostly based on logic. On top of that, the intelligence community has offered that the conclusion is not unanimous, but rather a consensus.

It's likely not even "provable" that the Russians did it. Which would make all the Russian collusion moot.

I just finished a letter to my liver doctor, asking whether it's safe or just stupid to go to our family reunion in July, 5, 6,7 in southern central South Dakota. About 500 miles from CH. We could meet in Sioux Falls, about half the way between and I would buy him a couple beers. I would stick to Coke
Zero

I haven't been able to go for a couple years. There are usually 150 or so for the deep cooked pig, if they still do that. They have a pit, filled with wood, a metal plate, and a foil wrapped full pig, another plate. It has ways to reload the wood. I have stayed up till 2:00 AM or so. It cookes for about 20 hours. And a lot of good side dishes, local delicacies, lol. I used to sing kareoke, but I had to put down a pint before I would do it. I'v got a better singing voice, but I can't stay on key.

Horse rides, tours of the area on hay piles on trailers behind a tractor.

I learned how to ride a horse when my long lost Uncle Carl taught this city boy how to work the reigns. I surprised them when I boarded up, grabbed the reins in my left hand and touch guided the well trained herding stallion, A horse knows instantly if you don't know how to ride. The last time, it was used to herd cattle, so it was sensitive to the reins. I had to pull back gently to keep it at a slow jog. You let then go, they go where they want to go. LOL.

Three of my cousins in about 1990 they set it up to meet the families, and have fun rather than at the funerals. One of my loved cousins, Gaye Hambeck was lost to cancer 3 years ago. The first time Lydia and I went to the reunion, she was worried that a black woman would get shot in South Dakota. Gaye took to Lydia instantly, and she was from then on one of he family. Lydia has a captivating smile and personality. She was a big hit. A lot of them off on the side, said "Roger, you have a keeper." I took their advice and it was the wisest decision I ever made.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I think that the investigations should be completed. They may or may not have data that has not been discovered yet. So if was me I "would not" I would have been upset. But my friend, we should not let the President to stop any further inquisitions. I remember Richard Nixon used in public, the same reasons he tried to get the CIA put a stop to the FBI investigation. You would probably in puberty. LOL

The headline says: Trump asked intelligence chiefs, to push back against FBI collusion p;robe afer Comey revealed it's existence." The President has but two reasons. One is it's total bullshit, and he's sick and tired of all these distractions from his somewhat successful trip through the Middle East. I would feel the same way.

BUT and I mean a big butt, that he has reasons that could lead to the termination as President.

Neither one of us knows what butt is in play.

Note, he did lawyer up. A good idea for sure, butt again, which butt are we worried about? I think the inquisition should let it run it's course.

I know that the intelligence services were not happy that Trump won, because he publicly claimed they were incompetent when working for Obama. But this is just me, these highly intelligent and deeply patriotic men want to get to the bottom line. He asked them to end the inquiry. It goes to he intent of his opposition. He is used to being the boss, getting on the phone and getting his way. I think it was inappropriate.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...
