Politico confuses media spin with reality...

Kushner tries to pretend everything’s normal
Trump’s son-in-law is back in the West Wing and continuing to lead meetings despite the rising tide of Russia-related questions.
There has been no rallying the troops in the White House, and no open acknowledgment from President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, that he has transformed from behind-the-scenes West Wing power broker to its lead distracting story.
Kushner led three meetings in the West Wing on Tuesday — and never once acknowledged the stories about him that have dominated cable news since last week, when it was reported that during the campaign he discussed setting up a secret communications back channel to Moscow.
Let's start with the obvious. Jared Kushner is no doubt smarter than anyone at Politico. He has a degree in Government from Harvard, and has both a Law degree and a Masters of Business from NYU. He also has an Army of attorneys at his disposal.

Given Kushner and his attorneys have actually been in touch with the FBI first hand, it would seem rather obvious that if anyone actually knows the potential legal ramifications, that it would be Kushner and his legal team (not the crack pot reporters from Politico). If Kushner is going about his business as if he is not worried about the FBI, it's probably because he is not worried about the FBI for good reason.

Moreover, if Kushner is not distracted by the media buzz over the story, perhaps it's because he doesn't care enough about the media buzz to let it distract him. Not everyone has Donald Trump's desire to wallow in the latest headlines and trade fire with the media.

I think the writers at Politico should really work on grounding themselves here.  While they may believe that the main stream media can set a narrative and create a news buzz... when push comes to shove that narrative doesn't replace reality. Perhaps if they joined reality for a little while, it might dawn on them why Kushner doesn't appear particularly worried about either the FBI or the media stories about the FBI.

Gee....politico provides an opinion piece.... I wonder how they would rate your screeds, CH? Same question I posed about wondering how he was sleeping and proffered you wouldn't either if you were facing an FBI inquiry. I know what I felt like when involved with a lawsuit as a witness and shoving a lawyers baseless allegations right up his ass for the record......It wasn't fun. Had questioned why I took notes when dealing with an unscrupulous vendor. Just like comey...covering ones ass.

Exactly, Opie... thanks for agreeing.

But they seem offended that Kushner isn't taking their opinion as if it's reality.

I know what I felt like when involved with a lawsuit

First, Kushner is not part of a lawsuit, nor is he reportedly any sort of "target" of the FBI.

Secondly Kushner has a degree in law and as many attorneys as money can buy.

While you "speculate" based on reading other non-legal "speculation" in places like Politico and the Washington Post... Kushner knows what the FBI is wanting to talk to him about.

next time a liberal tells you "it's for the children" show them this -

Barron Trump was watching television Tuesday at home with Melania when Kathy Griffin's photo appeared on the screen, and his initial reaction was that something terrible happened to his father.

Trump family sources tell us Barron was in front of the TV watching a show when the news came on and he saw the bloody, beheaded image. We're told he panicked and screamed, "Mommy, Mommy!"

As it was put to us, "He's 11. He doesn't know who Kathy Griffin is and the head she was holding resembled his dad."

54% of those people simply want him removed from office, even though they admit he hasn't committed any impeachable offenses.

Just further proof that the left is a bunch of sore losers who want to "undo" the results of the previous election... and that the liberal media is attempting to "normalize" this particular behavior.

Btw... some simple math shows that just under 20% of the public believe he actually committed impeachable offenses. That 20% is what makes up the tin foil hat conspiracy club.

A total of 72 percent of American voters are "very concerned" or "somewhat concerned" about climate change. Only 17 percent of voters say the U.S. is "doing enough to address climate change," while 18 percent say the U.S. is "doing too much," and 59 percent think "more needs to be done to address climate change."

Most Think Trump Is His Own Worst Spokesperson

A new Monmouth University poll finds that President Trump may not be well-served by his primary spokespeople, but he is probably his own worst mouthpiece.

“More Americans say that Donald Trump, press secretary Sean Spicer, and counselor Kellyanne Conway tend to hurt rather than help the administration’s cause when they step in front of the media. Reviews are mixed for deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Vice President Mike Pence is the only official tested in the poll who has a net positive impact when he speaks on behalf of the administration.”

Key finding: 61% of Americans say Trump does more to hurt his own cause when he speaks on behalf of the administration. Just 33% say he does more to help his administration when he speaks publicly.

Said pollster Patrick Murray: “This is the epitome of a no-win situation. It’s not as if Trump’s appointed spokespeople are doing worse than the man himself. It may simply be an impossible task to represent this president and come off as credible.”

HOW TRUE.

No Decision Yet on Paris Climate Accord?

Playbook: “A few sources in and around Trump world tend to think that we haven’t heard the final word on pulling out of the Paris Accord. When we asked one senior administration official this morning whether Trump was pulling out of Paris, they told us: ‘No final decision yet’. Remember when Trump was pulling out of NAFTA and then said he was open to a better deal?”

Bloomberg: “There is consensus in the administration that the terms of the Paris deal must change, and it’s exploring whether that requires a full exit or a scaled-back U.S. commitment to cut emissions, according to one of the people. Trump is scheduled to meet with Tillerson at the White House on Wednesday, and the president said he’d declare an outcome soon.”

How many of those 45 percent who don't want Congress to impeach Trump, believe that he is guilty of an impeachable offense and just don't care? Probably the same proportions.

wphamilton said...

Kushner has to keep up appearances. It has to be the first rule in the playbook, for political figures caught up in criminal investigations.

AND, if I'm right that Kushner was acting on behalf of other figures, and the FBI just wants some information from him, now is the time to play that up and use it to consolidate his power within the administration. People will be inclined to be cooperative and respectful of his agenda I think.

"just under 20% of the public believe he actually committed impeachable offenses" - does not follow.

Actually simple Math...

54% of the 43% want him removed for political purposes (not because they believe he committed any sort of impeachable high crime or misdemeanor)

The 54% was both in the article... and in the cross tabs. It was only asked of those who thought he should be impeached.

If you calculate the rest (46%) into the 43% you will get a number just under 20%.

The survey of "registered voters" implies that it wasn't a self-selected group so it might be as accurate as other methodologies. But I cannot find exactly what the selection process was, so I won't confirm that the result is "believable".

CH, the point being that the poll did NOT ask those who did NOT want to impeach Trump whether or not he was guilty of an impeachable offense. Your simple math leaves out a segment of possible answers. Therefore incorrect conclusion.

Occam's razor... The explanation with the least amount of assumptions is generally the correct one.

From what we know Kushner is "not" a target of any investigation and the "sources" are saying it has to do with a couple of phone calls that he left off his form 86... which he has stated he doesn't remember.

My explanation assumes only what we know. Kushner is not a target. Nobody in the Administration is a target. Kushner has gotten the FBI request. Kushner has a law degree and a team of attorneys. Kushner has agreed to cooperate and does not appear concerned.

You explanations includes a whole boatload of assumptions that are completely without substantiation.

Didn't I say that I thought Kushner was NOT the target, but the FBI wanted information from him? Where is my unsubstantiated assumption, when you're basically agreeing with me???

wphamilton said...

Oh for crying out loud...

You know better than that, using answers from only half the sample.

Half of the people saying "Yes" disassociated impeachment from an offense. It's reasonable that some, perhaps half, of the people saying "No" would also disassociate impeachment from an offense.

It's not reasonable to summarily conclude as you did, with no objective justification, that all of those answering "No" would have said "Impeach Trump" if they believed that he was guilty.

wphamilton said...

Nobody in the Administration is a target.

You don't actually believe that do you?

Or do you mean that any investigations of the Administration have moved to Mueller's bailiwick?

C.H. Truth said...

Your assumption is that Kushner was "acting on behalf of other figures" which I am not even sure exactly what that means.

The sources indicate that the FBI wants to talk to him about a couple of contacts (between April and November) that was left off his form 86.

There is nothing (even within the leaked sources) that suggests that this has anything to do with the FBI "leaning on him" to get him to give up the goods on someone else. But that would seem to be your implication by the assertion that he suddenly has leverage because he is talking to the FBI.

That also suggests that you are assuming someone has something to hide.

Again... from all sources, the FBI is not targeting anyone within the Administration. Considering there has been zero evidence of any specific wrong doing by anyone in the Administration... the explanation with the least amount of assumptions is that nobody (especially within the administration) would have anything to hide.

Not the other way around.

But I have a feeling that you have a general problem with making any assumptions of innocence in this case.

C.H. Truth said...

You don't actually believe that do you?

Yes. I actually believe that. Why wouldn't I?

Just consider how many leaks have been put out there with the obvious intention to cause political harm to the President... you don't seriously believe that if someone within the Administration was an actual target that we wouldn't know. That it wouldn't be leaked. If there was real evidence of anything... you think it wouldn't be leaked?

Again... WP. REALITY. Everyone who has been asked under oath has stated there is no evidence of collusion. Even Democrats in position to have been briefed on the subject state the same thing.

There are not even leaks that suggest that there is any evidence of collusion.

Occam's Razor suggests we go with the explanation that has the least amount of assumptions. You should assume that what we know is true. That there is no evidence of collusion. Therefor nobody in the White House is a target.

wphamilton said...

Your assumption is that Kushner was "acting on behalf of other figures" which I am not even sure exactly what that means.

OK, why else would the FBI want what he knows, if he isn't a target of the investigation. Investigating no one?

wphamilton said...

Too bad that the President can not only "fire" the FBI director, but according to legal experts (like Alan Dershowitz) the President has actually has the constitutional authority to actually order an FBI director to start or end an investigation.

Sort of like the A.G. has a constitutional right to direct the FBI not to question Hillary Clinton under oath and can cut deals to provide criminal immunity to people who the FBI saw as targets (without garnering anything in return for the immunity).

But then again... Alan Dershowitz might be wrong. I am sure you know better than he does. You have no faith in the "experts" to understand their fields.

On Thursday, a federal grand jury charged Simmons with lying on his Standard Form 86, the 127-page-long form for federal security clearances, which contains highly personal information about the individual, including possible drug and alcohol abuses, and financial and criminal histories. The Office of Personnel Management database containing millions of SF-86 files was stolen when the agency was hacked at the end of last year. Simmons was applying to work with the US State Department, and wrote that he had been employed as an “Outside Paramilitary Special Operations Officer” for the CIA from 1973 to 2000.
