Now the fun begins...

The post-mortum is already beginning.

What did Ossoff do wrong? What could the national Democratic Party have done differently? Should they made it "more" about Trump? Did they have the best candidate? How much did all of the out-state support matter? Was there some sort of backlash to all of that?  Where is the Democratic "momentum" that liberals want to believe is out there?

I heard a pundit on CNN actually say the one thing I have been thinking... the Democrats don't have a real message. They want to make everything about their "resistance" to Trump. Seems to me that this is really little more than a lazy strategy spurred by late stages of TDS.  It's obviously that those who live in the bubble of liberalism simply don't understand that while Trump may not be incredibly popular right now, most people (like me) don't see him as a monster who needs to be stopped at any cost.
_______

If I can explain it in the simplest of terms -  the fact that Donald Trump has struggled to gain traction as President doesn't change my core beliefs about politics. It doesn't make me want to vote for someone I don't agree with, just because I am not always happy with how Trump is handling himself.

More to the point, Trump has been President for less than five months. He's done some things that make me believe he could be consequentially a good President for the overall conservative cause. The over the top "resistance" hasn't convinced me of anything other than to view the "resistance" as over the top.

I believe that most Republicans in Georgia 6 (and across the heartland of the nation) see things primarily the same way I see them. The fact that coastal/urban liberals don't get that is understandable, and probably the reason why the Democrats probably won't win back the House in 2018.

_______

Perhaps the liberals out there can tell us where their line would be drawn on this situation. How unhappy would they have to be with a particular Democratic administration where it would come to them voting for Republicans across the board as a matter of mutiny? Is there a conceivable situation where they would vote for someone they do not fundamentally agree with on issues like abortion,  taxes, minority rights, immigration, gun control, etc... just to send a message?

What do Jon Ossoff and Karen Handel have in common? Neither one of them voted for Jon Ossoff!!!

If Hollywood and the media together lead the Democratic Party, not the politicians or -- good Lord! -- the people themselves, as seems increasingly obvious, a tail wagging the dog, if there ever was one, they ought to take a good look at themselves. What they are perceived to be espousing is no more than pompous elitism, a sense of looking down on the folks who pay their immense bills (media too, in many instances). They may rejoice at Trump's low poll numbers, but beware. As the man said, it's the economy, stupid. Their boy (and he is a boy) Ossoff lost more substantially than expected in an upscale part of Georgia elitists should win. Enough of the Trump bashing. Start thinking about how to make the country better. Come up with some policies that make sense. Then maybe you'll start winning again.

Ralph blames the weather

Steve, let me ask you one last question on this. If there was a turnout effect from the bad weather today in the district, does that have any partisan implications that you could foresee in terms of what was expected for same day, election day voting rather than the early vote?

the dems kept saying the GA-6 election was a referendum on trump.

The best excuse yet

A precinct captain for Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff’s congressional campaign complained recently that many of his constituents are hard to reach because they still live at home with their parents.

“Those were the angriest people,” Jessica Zeigler told Slate, referring to the Republican parents of the young Democrats. “When you are targeting their child, or heaven forbid their child might not think the same way as them, it becomes ugly.”

I liked the few minutes. But as the evening carried on I saw the spread supporting the Republican candidate and in The Graduate her lead increase that was it it was it was interesting I like the new. His closing comments we're interesting where we're talking about too much hate and he was right I think I'm both sides are guilty of this. It's a free country we can have differences with the hatred is is a big danger to the country. I have long kept the emotion hate out of my political views except with very few exceptions just like oh yes and people like Dick Cheney I like to see him spend his last few years in prison but that isn't going to happen. But now the Democrats do have to figure out how to make that next step they got close. But there's a lot of stations to be made that's interesting I'm trying to run through some of the possibilities in my mind good time. I don't think going to the left as some would like it is going to make a big difference it's it's too easily even though American left is very very narrow left but we've got to be very careful about that but the main thing is that is the. If the Republicans Force a non debate Passage of trumpcare that is going to come back and hurt them and quite possibly cost them the House and Senate and the White House in 2020. On the hillside I don't talk much about here the health side Health side is that the liver has been accepted by my body very well. All the all the body changes makes him some of the joints of the adopting to the new changing situations make it difficult especially my knees I always have had arthritis for a long time but it's been a lot worse and came back with a changing medications and I should be getting out of the hospital this week. They don't have 3 to 2 to 3 weeks in a rehab facility in San Pedro. I'm there full time five to six hours a day in the gym. With exercises specifically designed to work with transplant patients. Various groups I work with are all have all expressed their the other happy that really pushed myself all the way to the Limit every time. I'm going to get out of here and have a normal life or even better when this is all over with. And I will be there in full time or better to come back and bother the heck out of all the all of you guys and laugh and laugh and have some fun. Later my friends and he stay well, goodbye.

Ossoff’s defeat comes as a significant blow to the Democratic party, which loudly proclaimed that the special election was a referendum on the young presidency of Donald Trump. Indeed, Ossoff’s overflow of cash was largely fueled by the intense national attention paid to the sixth-district race. But that cash might’ve given a clue to his downfall: The vast majority of donations to his campaign came from outside of Georgia. The fact that, over a two-month span, 7,000 Californians gave to the Democrat compared with 800 Georgians should’ve troubled anyone invested in an Ossoff win. While the narrative was overblown to begin with, Handel’s win tonight throws water on the progressives’ claim that Trump is severely damaging the GOP in traditionally Republican areas.

Representative Tim Ryan of Ohio, who has been a vocal critic of his party’s overarching political strategy, said Democrats needed to recognize that they were “toxic” in huge parts of the country.

“Our brand is worse than Trump,” said Mr. Ryan, who urged Democrats to make forging a clear economic agenda an urgent priority. “We can’t just run against Trump.”

Turnout was very light when I voted this morning. A couple of people were finishing as I walked up and I was the only one voting or checking in until I finished. Of course, it only takes me 10 seconds so it's a very small sample, but foot traffic was low also.

If the thunderstorms roll in as expected this afternoon and evening that should depress voting further. That traditionally favors the Republican, Handel.

This election was close enough that it makes sense for Democrats to ask themselves what more they could have done to win. But despite that, they need to remember this was a district that Mitt Romney carried by 23 points, so a win here would have been a huge upset.

Why Handel’s Win Isn’t a Disaster for Democrats

David Wasserman: “Although it’s true Democrats have agonizingly yet to capture a red district, they have outperformed their ‘generic’ share of the vote significantly in every contest. Measured against the Cook Political Report‘s Partisan Voter Index (PVI), Democrats have outperformed the partisan lean of their districts by an average of eight points in the past five elections.

“If Democrats were to outperform their ‘generic’ share by eight points across the board in November 2018, they would pick up 80 seats. Of course, that won’t happen because Republican incumbents will be tougher to dislodge than special election nominees. But these results fit a pattern that should still worry GOP incumbents everywhere, regardless of Trump’s national approval rating and the outcome of the healthcare debate in Congress.”
_________
Nate Cohn: “If Democrats keep running ahead of expectations across those plausibly competitive Republican-held seats, many seats will ultimately fall their way. But they will certainly lose more than they win. The question is whether they win enough, and no special election offers the answer to that.”

OSSOFF: Well, the overwhelming majority of money spent supporting my opponent has come from super PACs in Washington. And the overwhelming amount of money that's been spent supporting my candidacy has come from small-dollar donors. But there's no question that money in politics is a major problem, which is one of the reasons that we need campaign finance reform so that candidates and campaigns will spend more time talking to voters and discussing the issues and less time raising money.

Tucker Carlson pretty much nailed the reason for Jon Ossoff’s defeat

The best illustration of these potent cultural resentments came last night in the form of a rant from conservative Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson.

“Democrats still have literally no idea why they keep losing elections,” Carlson said on his Tuesday night show. “If they did, they would have run a real candidate with a real job who understands the constituents he is attempting to represent.”

He continued:

Instead, Democrats put up a 30-year-old semi-employed documentary filmmaker who can’t even vote for himself because he doesn’t live in the district.

He’s got a ton of trendy, rich-people positions on just about every topic. The abortion people love him. He is gravely concerned about climate and childhood obesity and the availability of organic kale. He thinks illegal aliens are noble. He went to the London School of Economics. He’s super fit and way smarter than you are.

The GA 6 was by all Media account pre-Election Results an election on Donald Trump and his Agenda, so now that Donald Trump WON BIGGLY AGAIN, does that mean the Dems are going to put away their baby bottles, rattles and work with the President?

Draft of GOP Health Care Bill Leaks

Senate leaders “were putting the final touches on legislation that would reshape a big piece of the U.S. health-care system by dramatically rolling back Medicaid while easing the impact on Americans who stand to lose coverage under a new bill,” the Washington Post reports.

“The bill largely mirrors the House measure that narrowly passed last month but with some significant changes. While the House legislation pegged federal insurance subsidies to age, the Senate bill would link them to income as the ACA does. The Senate proposal cuts off Medicaid expansion more gradually than the House bill, but would enact deeper long-term cuts to the health-care program for low-income Americans. It also removes language restricting federally-subsidized health plans from covering abortions, which may have run afoul of complex budget rules.”

Most Think GOP Health Care Plan Will Be Harmful

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds that a majority of the country thinks the GOP health care bill “would be harmful for low-income Americans, people with pre-existing health conditions and Medicaid recipients.”

Key findings: “Nearly 60% of adults said they thought it would make insurance more expensive for low-income Americans and people with pre-existing conditions. Fifty-seven percent said it would make Medicaid less available, and 69% said it would cut federal money for Planned Parenthood.”

Gohmert: Anti-GOP Shooter Was Conditioned By Media’s ‘Hate-Filled Propaganda’

"Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert unloaded on the media and Obama-era holdovers at the Department of Justice on Wednesday after the FBI announced that it was treating last week’s attempted mass assassination of Republican congressmen as “assault” rather than terrorism.

Gohmert said that the FBI’s refusal to label the attack as terrorism indicates that there are too many officials from the previous administration in the DOJ and charged that the left-wing shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was conditioned by “hate-filled propaganda” from the media and some Democrats"

What went wrong?

1) Continuing to campaign against Trump isn't going to increase your votes from what they were to begin with. I had way too much contact from Ossoff's campaign, and I still don't know what he stands for except against Trump.

2) The outside influences diluted his message, whatever it was. These Democrats need to learn to design a message, an explicit agenda, and stick to it.
