This is why moving to Paris is a genuine consideration.

Breaking: Paris police shoot hammer-wielding attacker outside Notre Dame

Police in Paris shot and wounded an attacker near the Notre Dame Cathedral after the perpetrator tried to hit them with a hammer. At the moment the motive for the attack is unknown, but clearly French authorities are taking no chances. They issued an alert to stay out of the area, and have flooded the area with police:
Yeah, after spending time in Paris over the past two years, my wife and I have had some serious talks about the possibility of eventually moving there.  Not only is the city beautiful, but there is just a sort of dignified uniformity of decorum there, that is so unlike the obnoxious behavior of most American cities.

Also...  one of the things that I do like is that even with all of the terror activity there over the past two or three years, you have a tendency to feel safe when you have both the police and military wandering around the city wielding their rifles and automatic pistols (as in wielding, not holstered).

More to the point, when there have been attacks, the culprits are generally shot within minutes (if not seconds) of the attack. The police don't have to wait for a back up because the suspect is minority. The police don't have to worry about investigations into claims of racism. They are not criticized in the press and asked why they didn't take a more non-violent approach.

Oh, and when someone committing a crime is gunned down, the people of Paris do not protest and burn down the city. They universally recognize the good guys from the bad.

A question in all seriousness. How would these police and automatic weapon wielding military in Paris react to a citizen with open carry?

Commonsense said...

The question is moot because France has pretty much prohibited the private ownership of firearms.

And therefore "open carry" is non-existence.

wphamilton said...

Things that are "pretty much prohibited" do happen from time to time. Either in defiance of prohibition or by dispensation.

the answer would tell us a thing or two about the safety provided by these military and police.

those were done by disenfranchised and disillusioned "local yutes" who, according to the left, simply lack opportunity, jobs, etc. that would keep them out of trouble.

"Chicago has a ringtone to remind illegal immigrants to fight ICE

This week’s news brings us yet another story of where the municipal government of Chicago is setting their priorities, perhaps giving us a bit of insight into why things are going as swimmingly as they are in the Windy City. Several aldermen and community leaders gathered together this weekend to promote a new option for people to install on their phones as a reminder of how they might more efficiently work to thwart the efforts of immigration enforcement officials. They were promoting a ringtone which folks can select featuring lyrics from the song, “Nada Nada.” It is, as they described it, a timely hint that you don’t have to say anything to law enforcement when they question you. I'm pretty sure the military and police are well trained if a situation like this were to arise.

Democratic leaders are treading much more lightly in their approach to the Russia-Trump saga. With Trump's approval rating underwater - and new details in the Russia probe emerging almost daily - party leaders sense an opportunity to make huge gains at the polls in 2018 and don't want to overplay their hand. They've tamped down any talk of impeachment, calling instead for the creation of an independent, 9/11-style commission to investigate the Russia inquiry.

"What I've said to members [is] the only thing that matters are the facts -- the facts and the law," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday on CNN's "New Day" program, when asked about impeachment. "That's what [an] investigation will reveal to us."

Trump Turns on Everyone

Mike Allen: “There was a familiar ring to this week’s revelation that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was in Trump’s doghouse (provoking a torrent of leaks that Sessions had threatened to resign).”

“Flip back through the clips, and you find: Reince in the doghouse … Sean in the doghouse … Bannon in the doghouse … National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster in the doghouse … White House Counsel Don McGahn in the doghouse.”

“Even son-in-law Jared Kushner, who’s pretty close to untouchable, got a little chin music yesterday as the press pool got a glimpse of Trump’s meeting with congressional leaders. Trump said, to laughter: ‘Jared has actually become much more famous than me — I’m a little upset at that.'”

Most Think Trump Fired Comey to Protect Himself

A new ABC News-Washington Post poll finds 61% of Americans think President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey in order to protect himself rather than for the good of the country, and 56% think Trump is trying to interfere with official investigations of possible Russian influence in the 2016 election.

“A broad seven in 10 also doubt Trump’s word on the Russia issue.”
