Here is a question...

In the Trump media war... which do you believe is more likely to happen:
  • That the media's negative hateful coverage of Trump might lead to violence or attempted violence against Trump or other Republicans?
  • That Trump's bashing of the media might lead to violence or attempted violence against the media?
Seems that many in the media would like a one way street, where only they are allowed to practice hate, scorn, and division... while anyone who may have something negative to say about them, should "zip it" in the name of free speech?

A lot of black anger was sparked by videos showing police behaving in a way that police never should -- not always, but some particularly disturbing instances.

I think that violence feeds on itself, whichever side it's coming from, and we've already seen some incidences where the hate rhetoric might have played some part. Trump isn't helping himself nor anyone else with violent imagery and being pugnacious. The hate speech from the Left, it goes without saying that they've crossed the line.

Not at all... the press is free to do whatever they want. CNN is free to wallow in dismal third place cable ratings for as long as they choose to do so. I am not suggesting that the media has to shut anything down.

It's actually the Media (and people like you) who seem to believe that this is a one way street, and that any rebuttal by the President should not be allowed.

I say what is good for the goose is good for the gander and if you cannot take the heat, then get out of the kitchen. I have "zero" empathy and "zero" sympathy for the media's crying about what Trump says about them.

Donald Trump's twitter account is as much "free speech" as Don Lemon and CNN Tonight's show is.

"Spam" Reality Check:

Big Majority Say U.S. Politics Is Less Civil Under Trump

A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds 70% of Americans say the level of civility in Washington has gotten worse since President Trump was elected, while just 6% say the overall tone has improved.

For comparison, 35% in 2009 said civility in the country had declined in the U.S. following President Obama’s election while 21% thought civility and the tone of discourse in the country had improved.

The American people are getting desperately hungry again for a President who can speak in coherent, meaningful, rational paragraphs, even without using a teleprompter.

U.S. Will LET RUSSIA DECIDE Future of Syria

“Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told the U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres during a private State Department meeting last week that the fate of Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad now lies in the hands of Russia, and that the Trump administration’s priority is limited to defeating the Islamic State,” Foreign Policy reports.

“The remarks offer the latest stop on a bumpy U.S. policy ride that has left international observers with a case of diplomatic whiplash as they try to figure out whether the Trump administration will insist that Assad step down from power. Nearly three months ago, Tillerson HAD INSISTED that Assad would have to leave office because of his alleged use of chemical weapons.”

There is no question in my mind, that the Left-leaning press literally hates Donald Trump and frequently publishes irrational, hateful screeds about him.

To the extent that the Democratic Party encourages it - if indeed they do - I consider it a horrible mistake. Almost as bad as the mistake of forcing the nomination of Clinton was - at best, they are compounding that mistake.

As police departments across the country geared up for more Black Lives Matter demonstrations, the White House on Thursday called the street protests “a good thing.”

After another meeting with police and civil rights leaders this week, Mr. Obama said the U.S. is “not even close” to resolving tensions between minority communities and police departments.

“We will see more tension,” he said.

Bernstein: US is in a 'MALIGNANT presidency'

Bernstein called on the media to explore the question of whether Trump is "capable" of leading the country.
His remarks come at the end of a week in which Trump battered the media with insults

(CNN)Journalism legend Carl Bernstein called on the US press Friday to rise to the challenge of the Donald Trump presidency, which he characterized as "malignant."

On CNN's "New Day" he said Saturday:
"We're in foreign territory. We have never been in a malignant presidency like this before. It calls on our leaders, it calls on our journalists to do a different kind of reporting, a different kind of dealing with this presidency and the President."

Bernstein went on to argue that the Trump presidency's deepest problems are becoming an open secret in Washington.

"I think something much greater is happening, and that is that we are in the midst of a malignant presidency," he said.
"That malignancy is known
to the military leaders of the country.
It's known to the Republican leadership in Congress who recognize it, and
it's known to the intelligence community."

"That has got our leaders worried," he continued.
"They are worried about his character.
They are worried about his capabilities.
They are worried about his temperament and state of his temperament, to use kind words here."

Bernstein, a CNN contributor whose reporting on the Watergate scandal for The Washington Post led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974, added:

"[R]eporters need to go out and talk to [those leaders] either off the record, on background, about the question of their confidence in this President and whether or not he is capable of being the President of the United States in a way that defends us, our country, and the Constitution of the United States. Many members of Congress, many of our military leaders, many in our intelligence community who I've spoken to, and I know other reporters have spoken to, understand and are beginning to comprehend that the underlying story here is a lack of confidence in the abilities and character of the President of the United States of America."

"This President is not in control of the presidency in a way that it is functioning, and that has got our leaders worried," Bernstein said.

"We have to ... be kind of medical reporters right now," he added. "I don't mean about the President's psyche, but rather about every aspect of his presidency, and how and whether it is functioning, because many aspects are not functioning."

His remarks come at the end of a week in which Trump has battered the media with insults, including an early morning tweet storm Thursday in which he attacked the intellect and appearance of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. Those tweets drew wide condemnation from across the political spectrum in Washington and beyond.

Bernstein's comments put the blame for what he said was dysfunction within the Trump administration on the President himself.

The Trump presidency, he said, "is not functioning partly because of his character. It's not functioning partly because of his attacks on the press, which is totally moving the needle that the American people ... are watching. ... But it's really not functioning because the character and capabilities of this President are called into grave question in a way that those who know him best are raising serious concerns about."

The Keystone pipeline has cost more than $3 billion, and finally got the green light from the government when Donald Trump approved the project in March…

But almost no one cares.

Its operator, TransCanada, is failing to find a reason to use it.

They are facing a serious lack of demand for the 830,000 barrels of oil it was expected to deliver daily…

And the companies that it was originally intended to serve are no longer interested.

Energy experts on the project should have saw this coming…

The American economy is in the midst of a massive shift away from oil.

In an era of economic expansion unlike any other in history, it just isn’t efficient enough to keep up with the enormous demands of this past decade’s major tech advances.

Fake news as a partisan myth.

In most circumstances not all but most circumstances the media report on the things said and done by the president. When they point out that the president's new actions are contradictory to his previous statements that draws anger and criticizing from the Trump Administration doesn't understand doesn't want to accept criticism or even admit they are changing their policies.

I don't think anyone here denies that the actions of president from are not the most unusual that we've ever seen as president. One example is when they point out that the current policies is proposing are in complete contradiction to what he ran on to be elected president and that many instances are there and we all know that if you got an open mind. Does the president have the right to change his mind yes. What is wrong with pointing that out? That will draw an angry tweet when the president is offended by this news even if it is the truth he is offended by it.

The use of fake news. Is this method to get people to believe that he has not changed his mind he has not changed his Direction and has not acted differently than he promised before. He wants loyalty and believe what he says with unquestioning loyalty.

The truth will set you free but Donald Trump doesn't want the truth out there. The only wants what his saying to be the truth whether or not it is the truth.

I know none of you will agree with this he'll try and pick it apart I think I'm being just a drunken idiot but that's not the truth. I put a lot of thought into this over the last year and I keep watching this and I am she'll be safe I'm worried about where he would take this country and he is not contain somehow.

In most circumstances not all but most circumstances the media report on the things said and done by the president.

Actually no... the media reports on things that didn't happen, like reporting that Trump associates are being investigated (when they are not), or like reporting that Melenia Trump was divorcing Donald (when she is not), or like reporting that Comey was going to contradict that Trump was not under investigation, or Rosenstein was going to resign, etc... etc...

I put a lot of thought into this over the last year

Then you are really not very bright, or you need to go back to the drawing board and rethink it. Because "Fake news" has almost nothing to do with promises kept or broken. It has to do with reporting the facts correctly and in a manner that does not go out of it's way to make Trump look bad at every opportunity.

If 40% of the population believe he is doing a good job, how do you correlate that with CNN running 93% negative coverage, or NYT at 87% negative coverage, or WashPost at 83% negative coverage... etc...

overall coverage of Trump is 80% negative.

Not too surprisingly most of our past presidents (even Bush) got coverage that was much closer to their approval rating (Obama 59% positive, Bush 43% positive, Clinton 40% positive).

There is no excuse for 20% positive coverage and to have 7% coverage cannot even be considered "News" - at that point, it becomes a blatant smear campaign against the President, the likes of which we have never seen..

So Roger... take a step out of your "bubble" and realize that a President with a 40% average approval rating is not that unusual. Clinton was there much of his first term, Bush was looking up at 40% much of his second, and Obama wallowed in the low to mid 40s for much of his second term.

How (given the American approvals are not much different) can you justify that the coverage is so much more negative?

caliphate4vr said...

For someone that has bragged about his writing skills since forever

wphamilton said...

Not exactly true. Bill Clinton had a similar approval rating in June of his first year.

All other Presidents since 1960 have had vastly higher approval ratings at this point in their tenure:

Barack Obama 61 Jun 2009
George W. Bush 54 Jun 2001
Bill Clinton 41 Jun 1993
George H.W.Bush 70 Jun 1989
Ronald Reagan 59 Jun 1981
Jimmy Carter 63 Jun 1977
Richard Nixon 63 Jun 1969
John Kennedy 73 Jun 1961

C.H. Truth said...

WP...

Not sure why you are splitting hairs. Either way, Clinton didn't get 80% negative coverage when he first became President. Obama didn't get 80% negative coverage when his second term started to go downhill. Even Bush (with approvals in the low 30s) never saw this sort of bad press.

- There is absolutely no precedent for this sort of media coverage.
- There is absolutely much precedent for a President having 40% approval ratings.

So the "excuse" that somehow "this" President is so much more unpopular is simply not true. The only thing that is true is that the media has a bigger ax to grind, because of their personal feelings for Trump. Not because they represent the overall opinion of the nation.

opie said...

- There is absolutely no precedent for this sort of media coverage.

As there is absolutely no precedent for the tweets, lies, ego, and idiocy of this POTUS

wphamilton said...

It's not excuse; "this" president IS so much unpopular. That was the point of that list.

Clinton got some pretty bad press, and his low numbers were due in part to his futility with his domestic policy, the bad knock from the Republican congress over his economic proposals ("will raise our taxes") and also his perceived arrogance and self-absorption. Closing an airport for his hair cut for example.

Trump has been all of that and worse. He generates his own bad press - you've even implied that he does it deliberately. Sure there's been some over the top coverage, and Trump has some grounds for complaint IMO, but he's over the top himself. He invites it. In a sense it's pretty balanced that way.

opie said...

This is way too funny in light of the embarrassing fake fight trump posted bashing CNN....Did anyone notice trump punched like a girl???? LOLOLOL

It's going to take some real leadership to ever get some integrity back into the GOP.

WP...

It sounds like you are arguing that Trump's 40% approval is somehow different than other President's 40% approval numbers.

It also sounds an awful lot like you do not hold the media even slightly responsible for what they choose to cover and what they choose to ignore. More to the point, you seem to not want to hold the media accountable for basically "making things up" in order to produce negative coverage.

How much of the 93% of CNN, 87% of NYT, and 83% of WaPo coverage is actually the sort of single "unnamed source" that would never have gotten past an editor 10 years ago? How much of it turns out dead wrong... something those outlets would have never printed 10 years ago?

41 States Refuse Request for Voter Information
July 4
“Forty-one states have refused the Trump administration’s request for certain voter information,” according to a CNN inquiry to all 50 states.

“State leaders and voting boards across the country have responded to the letter with varying degrees of cooperation — from altogether rejecting the request to expressing eagerness to supply information that is public.”

So far, just three states — Colorado, Missouri and Tennessee — have shown a willingness to work with the commission.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Sun reports the “election integrity” panel saw its first resignation: Maryland’s deputy secretary of state Luis Borunda (R).

This is scary. They both belong in straight jackets.

Not "other President's" - ONE other President. Only one - who had many of the same problems Trump has (although of course not all of them). Trump's low polling is abnormal, no matter how you may try to soft-pedal it.

93% negative coverage is probably about right, because he's a negative President. 7% may be generous, since it would imply that Trump is unobjectionable 7% of the time. I guess they could keep writing about Trump's SC Justice every week while mentioning "Trump bombed Syria", that would be positive at least in your lights, but wouldn't that get tedious after a while?

Actually the past three President's have all had approval ratings in the 40% range (or in the case of Bush, well below 40).

It seems telling that part of your debate style these days is trying to constantly "repute known facts"... usually on some sort or semantic or hair splitting reasoning that has nothing to do with the underlying argument.

But at the end of the day, WP... most of us recognize that the Press is no longer trying to cover the news when it comes to Trump, but influence people's opinion (trying to convince the 40% that they are wrong).

They would be happy to see that their ability to influence is working so well on people like you! Especially considering that you used to be logical regarding (and cynical) of these sorts of thing.

It just seems like they're trying to change the minds of Trump supporters CH, but they're mostly just covering Trump's screw-ups. There are just too many of them, too frequently.

How is the tax reform going, CH? Oh right ... it isn't, because the GOP can't even get to it, too busy failing on ACA reform. The only way to report that positively is if their reform ideas are all bad ideas, and the keystone cops agenda is best case scenario, but I've got a feeling you wouldn't consider that positive either.

So what do YOU think "positive" press coverage would look like? Fawning over the latest Twitter insult?

I don't know, WP... how bout the fact that the DJIA hit another high yesterday, or that gas prices are at 12 year lows, or that unemployment is down to 4.3%, or that consumer confidence is up.

Considering the "economy" is generally the top priority with rank and file Americans citizens (especially voters)... I find it a little strange that you suddenly believe that most Americans care more about whether Joe and Mika's feelings have been hurt by a Donald Trump tweet, than what is happening in their own lives?

Trump meets with South Korean President on Friday, and we heard almost nothing about it. Instead we are blessed to hear about the latest Hollywood celebrity who is upset with Donald Trump, or possibly the most recent theory about how the second cousin of Donald Trump's receptionist spent last summer in Europe and therefore was possibly a go-between for Trump and Putin.

Why would it make any difference "when" a President was at 40% approval?
Isn't 40% approval 40% approval?

Again, it feels like you are arguing that Trump is much "less" popular than Clinton, Bush, or Obama were during the periods of their Presidencies when they had 40% approvals (or less).

On average, right now (according to RCP)... 55% of Americans disapprove of the President. When you run coverage as negative as you do, or you are CNN and you believe that having one conservative in a six person panel is appropriate... I find that you are simply not living in reality.

and how is trump directly responsible for that???? Where were you when the dow crashed under busch and when Obama had the dow double before he left??? Seems to me your hypocrisy skirt is showing. LOLOLOL

Speaking of hypocrisy, you were all so ready to credit Obama when the DOW was up.

The real story is new jobs in manufacturing is up and real unemployment is down and people are re-entering the workforce.

I'll give trump as much credit as you gave Obama......

The real story is new jobs in manufacturing i

Does that include with the decline in auto market and layoffs that was just reported???? Or the carrier non-jobs saving claims???? LOL

Whether Trump is or isn't responsible for it... It's still news and stock market prices (401K), gas prices, and the job market has a lot more relevance in people's lives...

than whether or not Mika's actually had a face lift or a chin tuck.

In the middle of a term, probably little difference. In the first quarter of the first term, it reflects the President's initial performance. It's where people judge his performance against their expectations.

That's why I gave a little detail about Clinton's low numbers, the only President to match Trump's low numbers at this point in his Presidency: the similarities. Clinton had failed to achieve anything in his domestic policy agenda, with a Democratic-controlled Congress. Trump has failed to achieve anything in his domestic policy agenda, with a Republican controlled Congress. They were both seen as arrogant, self-centered.

You can blame the Press for it, you can pretend that there's no difference in Trump's low approvals and other presidents' but that's all wish and hope, not reality. The reality is that these low numbers at this early point should be a klaxon bell for Trump's agenda, and it there isn't much reason for optimism that it will improve.

You obviously are not paying attention to the economic channels and MSM that regularly report gas prices being at record lows, the dow's records and employment numbers. Must suck to live in the wilds of MN which seems to not be getting any internet or news service. LOLOL Being in a media coma is your problem, not mine.

Remember, the pussy grabber was the one who started the feeding frenzy with his immature and stupid tweets using such terms as pyscho joe and low IQ mika. Now you blame everyone but the liar in chief with the coverage of his own stupidity. that you defend without hesitation, like the good little non thinking sycophant you have morphed into. LOLOLOL
