"MORE BREAKING NEWS FROM CNN"

HA!

This wouldn't surprise me.

Days before President Donald Trump tweeted a video of him assaulting a CNN logo, Trump took aim at another place he said CNN was hurting: its ratings.

"Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories," Trump tweeted June 27, before adding: "Ratings way down!"

The reality TV star-turned-president has a well-documented fixation on television ratings that predates his time in office, and we've been checking Trump on statements about TV ratings as long ago as 2011.

Since the stakes of television viewership appear to loom large in the mind of the president, we decided to look more closely at CNN’s trendline.

The upshot: Trump is flat wrong
Trump’s claim that CNN’s ratings are down raises the question: compared to what?

Because his tweet made no mention of other cable news networks, we assume Trump is comparing CNN’s current ratings to past ratings.

Television experts we spoke to about how to gauge CNN’s trajectory suggested we compare CNN’s numbers from one year to the next, based on data from the second quarter (in 2017, second quarter ratings went from March 27 through June 25).

To get a comprehensive view, we were told to look at ratings across several benchmark metrics, broken down by audience demographics and viewing times.

Bottom line: CNN is at a five-year high in each of the categories we looked at, according to data provided by the Nielsen Company.

So when it comes to comparing CNN’s current ratings to past ratings, the verdict is clear: They’ve moved up in several major categories compared to recent years.

For its part, CNN called its second-quarter figures a "ratings milestone," with the cable news network tallying a record number of total viewers, and its best second quarter since 2003 in terms of total day viewership among 25-54-year olds.

"CNN just posted its most-watched second quarter in history," a CNN public relations account tweeted in response to Trump. "Those are the facts."

Our ruling
Trump said CNN’s ratings are "way down."

In fact, CNN is at a five-year high in several key categories, according to data provided by the Nielsen Company.

We rate Trump’s statement Pants on Fire.

Here's another leak that really disappoints me.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4027315/trump-may-tape-leak/

I really dislike Trump and he was about the last person I wanted to see as President, other than Clinton.

But when all this first went down with that goofy bigot-baiting mayor, and Parliament wanting to ban him, I was kind of looking forward to Trump rubbing their noses in it. Have him up on the stage with him and May, and he'd better be respectful because UK has a lot more riding on a close relationship than we do. Especially in these times, alienating the USA is a non-starter. Speak to Parliament, photo-op with the Queen. He should be eating that up, triumphant international visit, regardless of the press there.

But no, he's whining about the press coverage, doesn't have the backbone and self-confidence to show his face there. What a pathetic disappointment. You'd think we'd get used to being disappointed with him, but it never seems to end.

behold the pretzel logic that only an alcoholic could appreciate.

tv ratings only ever matter to a media outlet in relation to its peers. period. viewership has to come from somewhere, and in cnn's case has to GO somewhere.

every time a person sits down to watch tv within a given time slot they have a myriad of choices. they can watch cnn, or they can watch something else.

comparing cnn's ratings to its own historical ratings is an exercise in pure self-delusional bullshit.

which explains exactly why you fell for this article, alky.

Last week, more Americans tuned in to watch re-runs of “Yogi Bear,” “Full House,” and “Friends” on Nick At Nite than to watch Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon’s shows on CNN.

According to cable ratings from the week of June 26-July 2, CNN’s viewership of its primetime shows was ranked significantly lower than its competitors like Fox News and MSNBC, which place first and second respectively. Clocking in at No. 10 on the list, CNN fell behind HGTV, Nick At Nite, History Channel, and ESPN — the sports network that’s been hemorrhaging viewers for months.

I think I can tell you the execs at CNN aren't taking any comfort in politifact's misleading article.

Bottom line is ad time and if you are drawing less than old reruns at Nick At Nite, then you can't charge very much for that time.

And in a more ominous development, cable operators are taking CNN out of their basic bundle.

Maureen Dowd: Game of Trump

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/15/opinion/sunday/game-of-trump.html

A new Washington Post/ABC News survey found that Americans by 36%-58% disapprove of Trump's performance in office.

That's a significantly worse grade than the public has given any president at this point in his tenure since modern polling began in the 1940s.

Obamacare has 50% approval Republican plan has 24% approval.

His presidency under a major threat he goes to play golf . I lost count of the number of times the people complain here about Obama playing golf. When Donald Trump and his presidency is not under major threat he goes to play golf.

North Korea is threatening to start a nuclear war, Donald Trump goes to play golf.

Did we hear any outrage from our host? No of course not.

SOME MORE IMPORTANT BREAKING NEWS

Americans Down on Trump

"Just 40% of Americans approve of the job he is doing in the White House, and 55% now view him unfavorably, up 12 points since December. Worse, even more — 61% — say the nation is headed down the wrong path, also up 12 points since December.”

“And despite his assurances that he and congressional Republicans will repeal Obamacare and replace it with a ‘beautiful’ new health care bill, 64% of Americans say they disapprove of his handling of the issue. That’s especially significant because health care topped unemployment, terrorism and immigration as the issue poll respondents chose as the most important challenge facing the nation right now.”

USA Today: “The first six months of Trump’s presidency were brutal. The next six months could well be worse.”

The 25-54 demographic is the most important in the ratings.

I need some proof that CNN is being drop by major cable or satellite systems or is it just another meet up lie by the menstrual. Odds are is the latter.

Trump Is Killing the Republican Party

Joe Scarborough: “I did not leave the Republican Party. The Republican Party left its senses. The political movement that once stood athwart history resisting bloated government and military adventurism has been reduced to an amalgam of talk-radio resentments. President Trump’s Republicans have devolved into a party without a cause, dominated by a leader hopelessly ill-informed about the basics of conservatism, U.S. history and the Constitution.”

LOL. yet they loved it at the time. morning joKe's promotion of trump during the primaries was disingenuous, self-serving and transparent. MSDNC promoted trump because, according to the pollster elites like nate silver, trump was the easiest to beat.

but then the american people showed up and ruined felonia von pantsuit's coronation.

CNN dropped from number 6 in the cable channel rankings down to number 13, just below something called the "Investigation Discovery" channel.

https://www.scribd.com/document/353068638/Cable-Ranker-Week-of-6-26-17?irgwc=1&content=27795&campaign=VigLink&ad_group=1726779&keyword=ft500noi&source=impactradius&medium=affiliate

Perhaps in pure number of viewers, that number went up... but quite obviously the pure number of viewers went up "more" for several other cable outlets, as many passed CNN just in the past couple of months.

The bigotry of the right is exemplified by the thinking of the likes of menstral and loretta and her boring LOL post. I guess being an abject idiot is better than admitting errors....just like donnie......

African-Americans revealed the moral bankruptcy of their souls. These men are responsible for preparing ministers for the work of the church, after all.

Sadly, they are in good company. In April, the Pew Research Center reported that 78 percent of white evangelicals, many of whom are Southern Baptists, approve of President Trump’s job performance. Around that time, Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University said on Fox News, “I think evangelicals have found their dream president.”

None of this is new. The convention has a history of being on the wrong side of history. It was founded in 1845 because white Southern Baptists disagreed with the antislavery attitudes and abolitionist activities of Northern Baptists. During the civil rights movement, members of the convention almost unilaterally supported segregation.

THE FINAL NAIL IN THE MAINSTREAM TV NEWS COFFIN: FOX NEWS RATINGS PLUMMET TO 17 YEAR LOW
The only news channel, at least in the US, that still commands solid ratings is Fox News. Unfortunately for Fox, the average age of their viewers is 68, which isn’t exactly a profitable age group for advertisers. And more importantly, that statistic suggests that the company’s viewership is literally dying out.
Still, Fox has been wiping the floor with every other news channel for years. Just a few months ago their ratings were better than CNN and MSNBC combined. Fox is without a doubt, the last bastion of successful mainstream news.
That’s not the case anymore. For the first time in 17 years, Fox’s ratings among a key demographic, fell behind both CNN and MSNBC.

Finally the real reason that russian lawyer got the seat that behind McFaul that CH posted as proof of McFaul's russian ties. Somehow I think our host thought the post was humorous. It was not....

The husband of the former Florida chair of the Trump campaign obtained a front-row seat to a June 2016 House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing for Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian attorney who had met with Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower eight days prior. Lanny Wiles, the husband of former Florida campaign chair Susie Wiles, saved the prominent seat for Veselnitskaya at the June 14 hearing on “U.S. Policy Toward Putin’s Russia,” ABC News has confirmed. Photos and video of Veselnitskaya at the hearing show her seated directly behind Michael McFaul, former United States ambassador to Russia from 2012-2014. Veselnitskaya’s work and connections have come under scrutiny after it was revealed last ...

Opie's rant reminds me how race baiting was part of the leftist media playbook and has been part of it for a long time:

Remembering Journolist And Progressive Media’s Bag Of Tricks

Finally, Spencer Ackerman (also now at the Daily Beast) argued members of the list should put conservatives covering the Wright story on the defensive by calling them racist:

I do not endorse a Popular Front, nor do I think you need to. It’s not necessary to jump to Wright-qua-Wright’s defense. What is necessary is to raise the cost on the right of going after the left. In other words, find a rightwinger’s [sic] and smash it through a plate-glass window. Take a snapshot of the bleeding mess and send it out in a Christmas card to let the right know that it needs to live in a state of constant fear. Obviously I mean this rhetorically.

And I think this threads the needle. If the right forces us all to either defend Wright or tear him down, no matter what we choose, we lose the game they’ve put upon us. Instead, take one of them — Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists. Ask: why do they have such a deep-seated problem with a black politician who unites the country? What lurks behind those problems? This makes *them* sputter with rage, which in turn leads to overreaction and self-destruction.

When Kevin Drum (Mother Jones) argued that wasn’t the kind of campaign Obama wanted to run, Ackerman replied, “Kevin, I’m not saying OBAMA should do this. I’m saying WE should do this.” The particular charge, in this case, was racism because it was a defense of Obama, but more broadly this kind of strategic attack comes in several flavors including charges of sexism, anti-gay hate, Islamophobia, etc.

And there you have it. A cynical conspiracy against conservatives for being conservative.
