Trump networking for 2020 reelection bid...

“Of course he’s running for re-election,” White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Wednesday before the president attended a fundraiser for the party and his campaign at the Trump International Hotel.
_______
Chairs from Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania met with Trump at the White House on May 18, RealClearPolitics confirmed with the state parties. Also there, according to attendees, were chairs from Florida, Nevada and Wisconsin along with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.
“The president wanted to know how he was doing in our states and we each gave him an update of how we thought he was doing,” said Pennsylvania GOP chairman Val DiGiorgio. “Pretty much across the board, if not entirely across the board, every state chairman said, ‘You’re doing well, the people who voted for you last year are still with you and keep doing what you’re doing.’”
“I will guarantee to you that this is going to be a tremendous help to Donald Trump when he runs again in 2020,” said Iowa GOP chairman Jeff Kaufmann. “I can’t even imagine, if they’ve done this much in six months, the kind of networks and organization they’re going to have on the grassroots level, which is going to make, in my opinion, a primary laughable for anyone to consider. And it’s going to make these swing states … ready for battle [with] whoever the Democrats pick.”

Much will depend on the 2018 midterm results and where the economy is in 2019,  but Trump may or may not get a serious primary threat. It's generally unusual for an incumbent President to see a mainstream primary challenge. You might expect something off the far right, a religious conservative, or perhaps something in the libertarian lane, but it's very unlikely that a Ted Cruz type person is going to challenge the President if he is even in reasonably decent political shape.

That being said, it is Donald Trump and it would appear that pretty much anything goes as it pertains to modern day politics. But while the Democrats are wasting their time trying to figure out a way to remove him from office today, the President is already plotting a strategy to still be in office in 2021.

Let's just say that the latter is much more probable than the former.

Ah yes. To his face.

But behind his back?

You know, you didn't win the popular vote, and you're only one of the five Presidents to be elected without it.
You are losing Independents in droves.
You are even losing a lot of your original fanatics who don;t see the great change you promised.
You are constantly removing the wind from your supporters' sails with your ridiculous tweets and obvious incapacity for the job.
Etc., etc., etc.

Trump has nothing to worry about.

Pastor James Boswell is reflective of the other leftist trolls on the internet.

Thankfully, normal Americans don't want anything to do with Marxist creeps like him.

Even Chuckles has enough sense to read the writing on the wall...

"Their platform of free stuff and hatred for the people producing in this country (plus just a general disdain for the Constitution and everything it stands for) has finally made America fed up with the Democrats. Even Democrat leader Chuck Schumer has had to admit that something's gotta give."

You can't really accept anything at face value from a White House press secretary. They usually don't even know what Trump intends, when they're not trying to spin some stupid caustic remark of his.

Trump might "run" again, just like all his joke runs in the past. Not a chance that a perfect storm of idiocy from both parties happens again.

It's no longer a joke.

I'll tell you another thing.

If Trump delivers on even half of what he promised to the working class, the forgotten people, the people who built this country....

....he'll be reelected, bank it.

Like Wp, I have more faith in the country than that.

Trump has no history of delivering. If he DID deliver on some of his promises, affordable care for every working person, more jobs, real economic growth again, peace in the Middle East, elimination of terrorism, working out acceptable arrangements with NK and Iran etc etc, I'd vote for him myself.

I'd have a better chance with a lottery ticket. None of that will happen, and Trump won't be re-elected. Bear in mind that I was a voice in the wilderness early on that Trump could be President this time, that there were good chances even. The conditions that made that possible no longer exist. Maybe one in ten chance for Trump.

Loretta said...

He hasn't had time to deliver on most of his promises.

IF he delivers on jobs, economic growth, etc., he's back for another four years.

If the democrats keep insulting his supporters, they could nominate Jesus Christ himself and still lose.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

In all seriousness, if either party nominated Jesus, he'd probably end up on a cross.

If you look at exit polling, Trump won a huge percentage of the voters who were concerned with Court nominations. I think it's fair to say that his supporters would say he delivered with Gorsuch, as well as the other Federal Justices he has nominated.

He also won the vast majority of voters who saw illegal immigration and too many refugees as a major issue. By all accounts, there has been real progress (for whatever reasons) on both fronts. Getting the travel ban into place was considered a big win by many of his supporters. I know you have argued (incorrectly) otherwise, but his supporters are convinced that illegal immigration and the influx of refugees are down.

Furthermore, the markets are up, consumer confidence has been up (it was at 98 preelection and has been around 120 the past four months.

Pretty much everyone I know (who is a Trump supporter) sees the problem with Health Care, Tax legislation, etc... as an issue with Congress (go figure) not the President.

I don't know a single Donald Trump supporter here in Minnesota who has changed their mind and would not vote for him again. At least at this point.

IF his middle East policy works, keeping over sixty Arab nations AND Israel united against Russia, Syria and Iran, THAT alone will get him reelected and should.

Reality check: Trump can keep every single "Trump supporter" he ever had, and still suffer a humiliating defeat.

Or he could keep all of his support and win again... Keep in mind he won states like Ohio by a half million votes.

The rub against the President in the first run was that he wasn't qualified. Next time he will have been President for three plus years. There is a good reason why it's harder to beat an incumbent. Especially one who is setting up his connections this far in advance.

I think you underestimate Trump at your own peril.

Interesting that you brought up a potential primary challenger. That's not something I had considered. The only times an incumbent has faced a serious primary challenge in the past 50 years his party lost the election.

It's too early to predict whether that will occur. The challenges to Johnson, Carter, and Bush all began pretty late in the cycle. Reagan had been looking to run in 1976 before Nixon's resignation, so he might have run anyway even if Ford had been an amazing and conservative president.

If it does happen, it doesn't need to be by someone with Ted Cruz's visibility. Neither Eugene McCarthy nor Pat Buchanan were all that well known before launching their insurgencies.

And won Pa by a whole 70 k votes and lost the general by 3 million plus.
