Why Liberals should join the call to fire Mueller...

So the dishonest pile of crap lies argument from the left is that they honestly want to find out about any and all possible Russian influence on the election but only to the degree it harmed Hillary because it's a matter of national security and election integrity.  Liberal will demand that everyone should agree that getting to the bottom of Russian election influence is one of the most important issues we currently are dealing with. We should stop at nothing to take down Donald Trump at all costs  get to the truth.

I have read dozens of articles from the left very similar to the following:
Here's the main point that Kushner (and Trump and everyone else who peddles this bait-and-switch argument) misses: A foreign adversary launched a broad and well-resourced campaign against our political system last year; this should be a matter of bipartisan concern and outrage. Period.
But even if one takes Team Trump at its current word (and there have been several, each evolving as more facts have dripped out), the Russia attack is a big, big deal. In other words, even if one buys that there was no meaningful collusion or cooperation with Russia (not for lack of interest!) and that Russia didn't have any effect at all on one of the closest, most unlikely elections in U.S. history, the mere fact that a hostile power tried to disrupt our political system merits a strong national response. That's not "fake news," and it's not a "witch hunt." It's fact.
The more nefarious explanation of course is that Trump and company are trying to dismiss the smoke because they want to cover up the fire. The truth is for Robert Mueller, the independent counsel, to sort out.

So taking liberals at their word here... and assuming that is not just some transparent manner to disrupt and discourage the Trump Presidency... then why would we want to take this important investigation out of the hands of the FBI (which was focusing solely on Russian involvement in the 2016 election) and turn it over to a guy who hired a bunch of pro-Hillary lawyers and according to all sources is currently investigating Paul Manafort's old money laundering allegations and 10 year old Donald Trump business dealings?

Unless people on the left are willing to admit that this has absolutely nothing to do with Russian meddling in the 2016 election... and everything to do with trying to undermine and take down President Trump... then they should be coming out guns blazing demanding that the Deputy Attorney General fire Mueller for taking his eye off the ball, and either appoint someone willing to take on the "most important question of our generation" or hand it back to the FBI.

But we all know the truth, don't we?

Sorry James -

But you generally need probable cause to subpoena tax records. That is how our system works. Also, according to the scope of Mueller's authority - he could probably only subpoena 2015-2016 as anything else would be irrelevant to the 2016 election.

But once again... at least you are honest that you believe that this investigation really isn't about the 2016 election meddling.

But information warfare only is illegal if used "against" Democrats.

On the flip side... it's perfectly legal to hire a former agent of the British government to go into Russia, talk to Russians (supposedly including ranking Russian government officials) and dig up dirt on Trump... and then provide said "dossier" to everyone and their brother. Apparently it's perfectly legal for the Clinton campaign, the DNC, and the media to use said information, publish said information, etc...

Completely legal... because it harmed Trump.

But a British publicist who represents a Russian pop singer solicits a meeting between a Russian lobbyist and Trump Jr where no such information is passed... and it's "SMOKING GUN PROOF OF COLLUSION" and Trump Jr should be locked up?

Yeah... the only people who should be locked up are those who deem this nonsense to be credible. Locked up in a mental facility.

Absolutely wrong, your idea that it has nothing to do with Russia and everything to do with Trump. I don't buy that for a second.

Everything about this investigation is centered around the Russian interference. ONE of the questions about that is, what is the extent if any, of Trump's involvement? Obviously, an examination of his finances may potentially shed light on that. And in fact, that is the standard operating procedure to look at finances for the connections.

PNC said...

GayD:

Your argument is basically that since you think Russia's information warfare didn't affect the outcome, then it's no big deal.

That's pathetic.

It's like saying we should let the underwear bomber go free because he was never able to actually blow anything up.

Future Russian meddling could prove more influential. We should be acting to prevent that. But you are against finding out what happened, let alone putting measures in place to safeguard future elections. Russia is watching America's reaction, and if you Branch Donaldians have your way, Russia will be emboldened, and they will keep trying, and they will keep getting better at it.

wphamilton said...

We are going to make the same mistake again with the Clinton's, and eventually we will pay the price again for our indulgence.

No - Those emails suggest that a British publicist who represents a Russian pop singer (who has know Trump Jr for years) told him that there was a Russian effort to assist Trump.

If you are truly so far gone as to believe "every" fairy tale about Trump (even those coming from British publicists who's only ties to Russia appear to be representing a singer and knowing a lobbyist)... then I feel for you.

A BRITISH PUBLICIST is what you are trusting as the basis of this argument? You kidding me?

Bullshit. What does Paul Manafort's money laundering allegations (which have been previously investigated) or the Miss Universe pageant have to do with the 2016 election.

If Mueller told you to jump off a cliff and you would land safely? Would you trust him?

C.H. Truth said...

Jeez. Get it through your head: Hillary Clinton is IRRELEVANT.

PNC... that's an excuse. Are you not the one arguing that it doesn't matter if the meddling was successful or not? If the uni-bomber "tried" and failed etc...

Get your analogies straight and stop the hypocrisy.

Just because the Russian dossier failed to swing the election in Clinton's favor, doesn't change the fact that it was a British (former) agent hired to go through Russian sources to dig up dirt on Trump.

Considering nobody screamed and hollered about that being illegal when it first surfaced... isn't it disingenuous to become all up in arms about an unsolicited meeting now?

Again... either it's all illegal or none of it is illegal. And if simply meeting with someone is illegal (even if you didn't garner information) then hiring someone is certainly illegal, and using information from that source would also be equally illegal.

But as you say... Hillary didn't win, so if the uni-bomber had failed to kill anyone.. you would have let him go... or didn't you just argue the opposite?

wphamilton said...

Maybe Trump's money laundering in his casinos led him to entanglement with Russian financiers. Maybe not. Investigating these things is how you find out.

What's your concern, that Meuller will find evidence (or "proof" in your parlance) that Trump's vast fortune has roots in criminal activity? Would that change your mind about him, honestly?

The casual, matter-of-fact way in which the Russian meddling is referred to in the emails indicates that this email from a publicist was not the first time Junior had heard of this.

Here's how Junior would have responded if the publicist was just trolling him as you argue:
"Um, what Russian effort to help our campaign? What are you talking about? I didn't get that memo."

PNC said...

As I also argued... we have two criminals on the loose. One put someone in the morgue. The other one took a shot and missed. You seem to think there's something crazy about putting the most effort into bringing the murderer to justice.

There's also the fact that Trump's defenders keep crying wolf (Wiretaps! Unmasking!), while Trump's accusers (who are following actual leads) keep uncovering more shady enterprises by his campaign that he and his people conveniently and habitually omitted or denied even while under oath.

"I didn't meet with any Russians" became "I might have bumped into a Russian at an event" became "I met with Russians but it had nothing to do with the campaign" became "I met with the Russians about the campaign but no collusion came out of it" became "Keep asking questions and I'll fire you".

It's obvious which investigation has more potential.

But actually, I'm all for investigating Hillary too. By all means, call your Republican Congressman, your Republican Senators, your Republican President*, and your Republican Attorney General, and tell them you want them to devote another 5 years to Hillary's emails. Surely they'd be in agreement, right?

Oh...Nvm.

Apparently Republicans have that notorious inability to chew gum while walking or investigate more than one scandal at a time.

Which brings me to my final point... and a bit of psychology: It's starting to become clear that Trump's cult doesn't actually WANT any investigation of Hillary. They've got their people in a position to do it, but none of those people are actually doing it--even after a whole campaign of "lock her up" chants.

Why? Because instead of launching an investigation that's fully within their power to launch, they'd rather whine that Trump is being investigated and Hillary isn't.

If anyone actually went after Hillary, their go-to excuse ("B-but Hillary!") for objecting to any investigation of Trump, evaporates.

Somewhere a hammer just hit a nail on the head.

That's EXACTLY what the Trump cultists are afraid of.

All this bitching isn't about Mueller isn't because they know he won't find anything. It's because they worry (and maybe consciously or unconsciously know) that Mueller WILL find something, and it will cost their Dear Leader the White House, either through impeachment or a loss in 2020.

C.H. Truth said...

Maybe Trump's money laundering in his casinos led him to entanglement with Russian financiers. Maybe not. Investigating these things is how you find out.

Yeah... and maybe it's all part of a secret plot that was hatched 10 years ago, where Donald Trump planned on running for President, and they knew back then that this "email" deal would be important, so they started to work on how to hack it all.

Here is the deal, WP... you are a logical guy (most of the time) - we know that the Russian's hacked the election (or do we) - wouldn't it make more sense to work on tracking down specifically who did the hacking, and then work from there to see who they are connected to?

Rather than randomly select an American (with no evidence that he is involved) and start to see if you can trace him back to the hackers?

Would you try to fix a computer bug that way? Not go to the root cause first and then fix it from that direction? Rather just start guessing that it might be some random thing (with no evidence that it is) and try to bug fix your way back to the root cause, hoping you eventually find a route?

I am sure you could suggest that the later is an actual means to the ends, but it would be a ridiculously illogical and wasteful way to go about it....

wouldn't you agree?

wphamilton said...

No I do not agree that "tracking down the hackers" is the logical priority. For the simple fact that everything you suggest has already been addressed - immediately. It would be utterly pointless to throw more resources in revisiting the obvious first steps.

C.H. Truth said...

As I also argued... we have two criminals on the loose. One put someone in the morgue. The other one took a shot and missed. You seem to think there's something crazy about putting the most effort into bringing the murderer to justice.

You make the logical fallacy that the "result" of the election is somehow associated with the degree of seriousness of the election related crime. Apparently you can break all the campaign laws, as long as you lose the election?

The crime is not Trump winning (as much as you would like that to be).

The fact that Trump won doesn't change the "actions" of the two political campaigns.

Who Russia did or didn't try to help or hinder has nothing to do with which "campaign" committed more serious infractions.

The actions of the campaigns are what is at issue, PNC. If you "refuse" to acknowledge that, then you might want to ask yourself why (as it is the only thing that matters when it comes to law).

The reality (like it or not) is that there is no equivalency between "hiring" a foreign entity to garner information from a different foreign entity to damage a candidate.

and someone taking a meeting because someone offered that there may be information.

No matter how many times you deem the actions of Fusion GPS, the DNC, and everyone involved to be "irrelevant" because Hillary lost, it doesn't make it so. They are only irrelevant if you "really" have no interest in this sort of criminal act being one that people are held accountable for. They are really only irrelevant if you have a grudge against Trump.

Loretta said...

So, there aren't any stories/links of the Russians spreading misinformation helping Trump - or attempting to help Trump.

Didn't think so.

C.H. Truth said...

No I do not agree that "tracking down the hackers" is the logical priority. For the simple fact that everything you suggest has already been addressed - immediately. It would be utterly pointless to throw more resources in revisiting the obvious first steps.

I guess that depends on your intent. Comey himself stated (under oath) that while they had evidence that the hackers were Russian... the involvement of Putin/Russian Government and the Government's intention to help Trump was based on deduction, rather than any actual evidence.

So for a prosecutor to charge someone they need a reasonable assumption that they can prove the case "beyond a reasonable doubt". If the former director of the FBI has admitted (under oath) that there is no "evidence" that Putin was directly involved, much less was trying to help Trump...

then how do you logically bring a case?

So yes, I think it's important for someone to move the allegation from "assumption" to "evidentiary" in nature.

They also might need to find the actual individual identities of the hackers themselves (because it's pretty hard to prove a tangible tie to a group of unidentified people)

"Wasserman Schultz IT aide arrested trying to leave the country

Imran Awan, an IT aide to Debbie Wasserman Schultz was arrested last night at Dulles airport while trying to leave the country. Fox News’ Chad Pergram announced the news on Twitter Tuesday afternoon:

As I wrote back in March, Awan was fired by Rep. Marcia Fudge and Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, was fired by Rep. Gregory Meeks as an investigation into a procurement scandal involving his family ground ahead. But Rep. Wasserman Schultz never fired Awan and, according to Pergram, he was still on the payroll until he was arrested:

James Rosen reports that Awan was fired by Wasserman Schultz today:

This story has taken several odd turns. In May Rep. Wasserman Schultz used her position on a House subcommittee to berate and make a threat against the Chief of the Capitol Hill police. Wasserman Schultz was demanding the return of a laptop discovered hidden in the Rayburn office building. Police seized it believing it could be relevant to their investigation into Awan but as you can see in this clip, Wasserman Schultz seemed very eager to have it returned. When the police chief didn’t agree with her she told him, “you should expect that there will be consequences.”

Luckily most liberals not as stupid as you seem to think they are that would be the dumbest f****** thing we could do geez come on you got to do better than that Scott

Your 500 word diatribe is nonsensical your logic is so flawed I just you should be ashamed pretty simple you should be ashamed.

You used to be thoughtful and analytical you have lost that for reasons I don't comprehend and never will.

You didn't mention this the Boy Scouts thing probably because you think he's right. Almost every Republican conservative writer has said this is nuts it was inappropriate and yet I'm sure you approved with it again.

Now you want to give Donald Trump a way to avoid any possible crime conviction or impeachment or whatever because that's what you care about not the country not if he's done anything wrong or right but because you want to try and make the Liberals like look like idiots we're not.

We do have to find a way to cel the liberal view of the world to the to the middle class that has been lost to the Republicans, since Saint Ronald of the Reagan who followed the southern strategy and destroyed the solid South that was created by FDR. No wasn't all racist it was a lot of other reasons. But the Democrats have to find a way to make a dent in some of those States and hold on to the east and west coast and maybe a couple Midwestern states Montana can be surprisingly liberal. But they only have 3 electoral votes that's true.

And to top it all off what's going on right now it was just attempt to get list of all registered voters and see if they can make it more difficult for those who might be Democrats to vote in our elections instead of making it easier for people to who are qualified to vote. Right now this so-called vote fraud is it is his scam and that's what it is. His irresponsible and highly and inaccurate claim that 3 million people who are not legally able to vote all of them voted for Hillary Clinton that's what he's trying to do.

And I don't even want to get into that boy scouts thing that was just the most disgusting exhibition I've seen in all my 60 years of watching politics and all the history books I've read and it's just nuts.

I have avoided commenting because it's basically I guess I would say that it's it's a waste time anymore there's no debate it's in here it's insults and clams that I'm demented. It's simply not true.

Dementia is not found in my family neither is Alzheimer's I don't know anybody in my family I list on my father's side that have any problems like that nobody my mother side is not known very well I don't know. With the ones that I have met a couple times we're normal people and same to be responsible but most of this is thirty or forty years ago I have no idea what's going on even if they're alive anymore. I didn't meet hardly any of my mother's family most of the mother's family was not part of the large family and still has not it's on the Amick side and and others are related to that.

My Aunt Rita the last surviving member of my father's family generation is 95 years old and fully coherent. I have memories of her going back to when I was five years older or a little younger and she's the same person very nice smart and a great mother and three wonderful daughters when we lost two years ago a terrible thing cancer took her. She was a wonderful lady.

Before I go to the update as usual. The blood test I did yesterday came out perfectly. Everything is functioning correctly my kidney needs a little work but it's okay it's not a dangerous thing I am physically getting more capable all everyday I can walk around now with around the house without using the Walker. And I'm completely self-sufficient a lot of people in my spot can't dress themselves and stuff like that not me I'm far ahead of most people because I work my ass off and did the right things I am doing what the doctors tell me to do and I'm determined to get out and have a great life after this and honor the donor.

I highly recommend that all of you put yourself on the donor list you can save lives my life was saved by a donor whether rrb likes it or not like I give a s*** :-) :-) :-)

How we think that little bit giving Donald Trump and out is not the right thing to do no matter what if there's a contradiction in thought which there can be and what you said but you can't let a man get away with something he did or possibly did that endangered the the nation and endangered our honored electoral system that has been the most honest in the history of the world and he is trying to destroy it with help of the Russians and you seem to be joining right along this isn't right Scott and you know it. Good night everybody even misses Alzheimer's have a good evening and I'll write you tomorrow and just like John McCain you probably won't like me tomorrow but I really don't give a damn only by the way the motion to overturn Obamacare without replacement lost by over 10 votes that was a defeat and destroyed Donald Trump's major claim is going to repeal Obamacare and replace it there is no way unless they follow the procedure that McCain said it will take nine months to a year and a both parties then we might have a real law but if we try and do they what the McConnell on the arrest of the Republicans in the trying to do it will never pass and we will not improve the system it could be improved if we work together but if we sit back and throw rocks at each other all we're going to do is hurt the country and each other and that again is not right. The Democrats have to step up to I'm not denying that they need to work with them but McConnell has to make that possible to make it up to full regular routine just like McCain said they have to go back to the regular routine and get it done the right way we can do that we've done that for a long time. But in the last 30 or 40 years we have thrown it all that away and have never really done that on both sides but the Republicans are worse than Democrats yes they are no matter what you think look at it historically they ran after Obamacare and HillaryCare back in the the 90s.

You do not criticize the Republicans for not participating in either one of them of course not Republicans could do no wrong remember. Both parties need to start acting like political parties that are doing the job responsibly work on the compromises and get the job done both sides pointing fingers like you're doing is not going to help my friend and is not helping the country that just might make you feel better but it's not going to help the country good night

Get it through your head: Hillary Clinton is IRRELEVANT"

No so, factually she is at the heart of this so called "investigation".

IF not for her losing the election in a landslide, do you really thing this narrative would have taken hold on Nov 9th, 2016?

It was already fired up and ready to go all Hillary had to do is tell the Left Media, hey do this, and they walked in granny step and did it.

Jane, do I still need to tell you what you are and who you are?

HB, Did you give a list of things President Trump Wants to get done that you support?

IF not what is taking so long.

Great NEWS out of CA:

"More than a third of California households have virtually no savings, are at risk of financial ruin, report says"

We know the household of government bilker HB and his mail order bride are broke and living off of the US/CA tax payers.

Well, there you have it, maybe, something, somewhere at sometime, might have happened, just what well, no one knows, but is it a "strong possibility" that some thing did and that is the reason Hilary lost so badly.

HOW TO TALK TO YOUR TEEN ABOUT COLLUDING WITH RUSSIA

Even the best-behaved teen is likely to encounter a situation where he or she is tempted to collude with Russia. Unfortunately for parents, a teen’s natural tendency to test the limits of independence can often manifest itself in his or her exchanging sensitive information with Russian emissaries for material or other rewards. If not constructively addressed during adolescence, colluding with Russia can have much more serious consequences in adulthood.

Here are a few tips for engaging in a healthy conversation with your teen about the hazards of colluding with Russia:

Keep the Lines of Dialogue Open

Don’t be shy about asking your teen where she has been, who she has spent time with, or why she has receipts from Cypriot bank wire transfers hidden under a false bottom of her jewelry case. If you discover a folder marked “parental Kompromat” try to stay focused and not act emotional. Think about her point of view and why she would consider it important to have your social security number, Gmail password, and Pornhub search history in a secret folder. Take advantage of these “teachable moments” to have meaningful discussions about colluding with Russia with your teen.

Explain the Negative Consequences of Colluding With Russia

When talking to your teen about colluding with Russia honesty is the best policy. You shouldn’t shy away from mentioning that a Federal indictment could turn into an awkward blemish on a college application, or that retributive Polonium poisoning could likely hamper one’s ability to compete for a coveted lacrosse scholarship. Remind them also that sharing their behavior on social media is never a good idea. Posting a selfie with a Russian aluminum magnate or “checking in” to a Kremlin safe house can have ramifications that are difficult to erase later on.

Understand Your Teen Will Likely Experiment at Some Point

Parents must be realistic and remember that despite their best efforts their teen will try colluding with Russia at a party, in their friend’s basement, or even in a hotel room after the prom. Your teen should understand that if he has been out late colluding with Russia he should never, under any circumstances, get in a car — especially a nondescript windowless van with diplomatic license plates. He should understand that you will come get him and give him a ride home no questions asked!

Saying No to Peer Pressure

If other teens in your child’s peer group are colluding with Russia, then she is likely to feel pressured to follow suit in order to fit in. For example if she goes to a mall and sees one of her friends stuff a thumb drive up under the paper towel dispenser in the restroom, she will no doubt feel a curious exhilaration and a compulsion to emulate such behavior. Similarly, teens may also be influenced into colluding with Russia by movies, TV shows, or current events that depict colluding with Russia as “cool,” “fun,” or even a little dangerous. You should actively assist your teen by praising their good behaviors and accomplishments, which can help passively discourage transgressive forays such as offering to launder money through a complex array of shell companies or cash real estate purchases.

Remember, any effort you make now to address your teen’s colluding with Russia is like an investment in their future. The last thing any parent wants is for the behavior to carry into adulthood when it can seriously hurt the parent as well as the child!

And how is that? That they have rights???? I'm sure you can link the offending words.....Idiot

Commonsense said...

This is how:

The link was confirmed in 2004 by then GSA’s CEO Kathy Cloninger who said: “We partner with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country to bring information-based sex education programs to girls. ” Parents are understandably troubled.

Since the 1960’s, Planned Parenthood has received over $5.5 billion dollars from the American taxpayers. During that time, non-abortion related programs have been systematically reduced while abortion numbers have continued to climb. Indeed, Planned Parenthood is ‘big’ business – and abortion is their largest money maker.

As if that is not enough, Planned Parenthood continues to inundate children of all ages with graphic sexual material. In a Waco, TX conference co-sponsored by Planned Parenthood, a book titled, “It’s Perfectly Normal” has been widely distributed to girls as young as ten. The book celebrates masturbation, features explicit drawings of couples having sex, a boy putting on a condom, lists the top ten reasons for having an abortion and tells kids that abortion can be a “positive experience. ”

I didn't see the speech or read the transcript, Roger. It didn't interest me, so I have no opinion about it.

What I do know is that by "nearly" all accounts it went over very well with the current Boy Scouts (and parents) who were there... prompting people to demand that the Boy Scouts are now some sort of "Hitler youth".

I also know that certain liberal media outlets decried the speech as inappropriate and that at least one made a false assumption that the Boy Scouts and those in attendance agreed with them.

My best guess is that you listed to WaPo and others and got your talking points from them.

The problem here Roger is simple.

You believe that YOUR opinion (which is basically a parrot of the liberal media) is the only one that matters. Anyone who disagrees with you is (racist, Nazi, bigot, stupid, biased, etc, etc..)

It's all you have anymore, Roger. Name calling. You never repute anything with logic or argument. It's just ad hominen name calling and personal attacks. Because (let's face it Roger) nobody is allowed (in your mind) to have an honest disagreement with something you believe.

It's sad, really...

C.H. Truth said...

just a note Roger...

I believe it would be largely impossible for you to respond to anything I write anymore without bringing "Trump" into it. Let me offer you a little dose of "reality". Trump is like any other President. Some people approve of him and some people don't. And he is just one person. The entire WORLD does not revolve around this one guy.

Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump... it's your obsession, Roger. You need help.

indeed.

roger's mental illness is quite real. while we'd be inclined to laugh it off by calling it TDS, in roger's case it's chronic and it's serious. fortunately for us, we get to observe his descent into madness from afar, as i don't think a single one of us lives close enough for him to pose a threat a la - a whackjob with an AR at a baseball game.

so it shall be very cool to have a virtual ringside seat to rog's inevitable insanity.

Documented: Russian hackers sent malware "news" links to Twitter accounts of 10,000 employees of the Defense Department, tailored to their individual interests, leading to Russian servers which delivered malware to take over their accounts and phone or computer.

The Russians used thousands of agents and bots to spread misinformation about Hillary, also documented.

Personally I don't give a shit about misinformation campaigns. I believe that they only serve to re-enforce confirmation bias, which will happen anyway with those susceptible to it, so I believe further that the Russians had negligible effect in that prong of attack. I take very seriously the more insidious elements, which ultimately serve to discredit or shout down the actual facts. I also take seriously the actual hacking threats (as opposed to simply lying as much as possible).
