Democrats already nervous about new census

What the Census Numbers Tell Us
The trend of people moving to metros with the densest urban cores—a mainstay of media coverage—is clearly over. The nation’s two megacities, New York and L.A., are shedding domestic migrants far faster than smaller metropolitan areas. Over the last year, the two coastal giants have lost domestic migrants at a rate of 0.95 percent—five times faster than metropolitan areas between 5 million and 10 million residents. Meanwhile, metropolitan areas with between 2.5 million and 5 million residents added domestic migrants at 0.14 percent, while those with 1 million to 2.5 million people grew through domestic migration at a rate of 0.33 percent. The major surprise was in the often-overlooked medium-size metropolitan areas—those with between 500,000 and 1 million people. These metros gained 105,000 net domestic migrants, far outpacing the negative 165,000 net domestic migrants for those with populations greater than 1 million.
Last year’s growth leaders among the large metros were located heavily in the dispersed metros of the Sun Belt and intermountain West—Austin, Las Vegas, Dallas–Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Raleigh, Charlotte, Tampa–St. Petersburg, Orlando, and Jacksonville. Among metros with more than 500,000 people, Seattle is the only one in the Top 25 located on either the West Coast or the Northeast—and it comes in at number 25.
Along with the shift to medium-size metros, the Census estimate confirms a trend that, in some circles, is hard to accept: people are moving “back to the suburbs.” In 2017, the core counties lost nearly 440,000 net domestic migrants, while the suburban counties gained more than 250,000. This trend is true even in New York, where the city dominates the local economy and offers urban amenities that easily outshine those of typical urban cores. The day before the new population estimates were released, the New York Times wrote eagerly about the decline of New York’s suburbs and exurbs. But, if the editors had waited for the 2017 data, they would have stumbled on another, less-welcome statistic: in terms of domestic migration, New York’s suburbs gained five people for each one who moved to Gotham over the last year. This is a far cry from earlier in the decade, when the city routinely added more population than the suburbs.

So what this implies in a nutshell is that we may see a population shift (possibly significantly) from the coastal states to the Western, Midwestern, and Southern states. What this would mean, would be an electoral college (and possible congressional district) shift from blue states, to red states. It also may decrease the number of deep blue urban congressional districts and replace them with purple or red suburban districts within those states.

When one realizes that there is already a distinct possibility that California will lose Electoral College votes moving forward, it makes their concerns about an under count of the illegal alien population all that more urgent. Already losing legitimate citizen population, already dealing with a slowdown of new illegals, already dealing with threats of deportations, they now are concerned that what is left of their illegal population will not be represented.

In lieu of this new census projection, is it any wonder that California wants to be a "sanctuary state"? If you can't keep the citizens you have from leaving, then you apparently must try to proactively recruit new citizens to take their place. Apparently whether or not they are legal is an insignificant detail.

Uh oh, bad news for the TDS among us.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-nine percent (49%) disapprove.

Take away your sanctuary state comment as they are still in dispute at a constitutional level. Illegal residents are not going to register as citizens.

Legal residents are part of the legitimate population and are "people" as noted in the Constitution. I don't believe that the Democrats are attempting to change the possible outcome of the census using illegal immigrants in the census in 2020.

Again, you "assume" we are out to steal the Electoral college outcome in the next 10 years. It appears to me that you want to tilt the balance using methods to ensure the results of the elections by exploiting the fear by the base of immigration.

This is a real stretch of your imagination. As the suburbs of the metropolitan areas populations die or move in retirement to different states, the Democrats are actively recruiting immigrants, legal or illegal to replace those who have left for their own reasons. That's ridiculous.

Roger - nobody is claiming anyone is "stealing" anything.

The concept is that as actual real citizens leave your state in droves, the idea "appears" to be to replace them (for census purposes) with illegals that you allow into your state and then protect from Federal Law enforcement.

That isn't really as much of an allegation as it is a statement of facts.

That isn't really as much of an allegation as it is a statement of facts.

indeed. and when it comes to out-migration, NY is just as bad as mexifornia.

ALBANY - About 190,000 New Yorkers left for other states this year, bringing the total out-migration to 1 million people since 2010 — the most of any state in the nation, U.S. census data show.

The sobering statistics were offset by births and new residents to continue New York's slow population growth.

Overall New York gained 13,113 residents between July 2016 and July 2017, the Census Bureau said. That was because births outnumbered deaths by 73,090, while at the same time the number of people leaving outpaced an influx of about 130,400 immigrants.

The out-migration in New York persists, said Jan Vink, a researcher at the Cornell Program on Applied Demographics

"In 2011 for every 1 person moving in to New York there were roughly 1.3 persons leaving, and by 2016 this had increased to 1.6 persons leaving," he said in his analysis.

https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/politics/albany/2017/12/21/leave-ny-another-190-000-left-other-states/974130001/

and as you can imagine, we're attracting immigrants like flies to shit. when your governor is an economic illiterate, your only hope of maintaining a population is via illegals getting addicted to your welfare state.

it's facts like these that make liberals like the alky very uncomfortable.

New York (CNNMoney) - Wall Street is sending President Trump a message: Don't start a trade war. And lay off Amazon, one of the most important companies in America.
The president played a starring role in last year's stock market boom. Now he's getting the blame as Wall Street hits the skids.
Trump's fingerprints were all over Monday's market sell-off. The Dow fell 459 points and the Nasdaq plunged almost 3%.
Trump's repeated and vociferous attacks on Amazon unnerved investors because they raise the specter of regulation — without any clues about what Trump wants.
"Calling out Amazon without offering any type of prescription is what's concerning the market," said Erin Browne, head of asset allocation at UBS Asset Management.
Amazon has lost $60 billion in market value since Axios first reported Trump is "obsessed" with the company on March 28.
Since then, Trump has repeatedly suggested Amazon takes advantage of the US Postal Service and doesn't pay its fair share of tax.
In fact, Amazon pays the same lower rate that the post office charges other bulk shippers, and it collects sales tax in every state that charges it. Amazon does not collect sales tax on purchases made from third-party vendors.
Trump has a long-held grudge against Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post — a paper whose aggressive coverage of the administration has drawn the president's wrath.
"Any time Trump, or any president, starts interfering in corporate behavior, that is concerning for the market," Browne said.
It's a role reversal for Trump, whose corporate tax cuts and deregulation helped send stocks soaring after the 2016 election. The Dow spiked more than 8,000 points between Trump's election and late January of this year. It's down about 3,000 points since then.
Related: Trump's attacks on Amazon are working
Investors are still struggling to get used to Trump's unconventional style, which creates a great deal of uncertainty for markets.
"In the past, presidents have taken issues with certain sectors through more formal channels, as opposed to off-the-cuff on Twitter," Browne said.
About $36 billion of Amazon's market value vanished on Monday alone. Those losses are felt widely because Amazon's enormous success has made it one of the most popular stocks in the world. In fact, Amazon has been a big driver of the stock market rally.
"

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

For the President to criticize a company the way he has with Amazon, which is clearly the result of a personal grudge with the CEO, runs counter to the concept of a 'free' market," Ian Winer, head of equities at Wedbush Securities, said in an email.
Wall Street was already worried about Washington cracking down on tech giants after Facebook's user data crisis.
Related: Manufacturers are worried about Trump tariffs
Trade, an issue that Trump put front and center this year, is one of the market's other big headaches.
Trump's love for tariffs, first on steel and aluminum imports and soon on China, has forced Wall Street to contemplate what was once unthinkable: a trade war that slows global economic growth. Worries about protectionism have repeatedly knocked stocks down in recent weeks.
Stocks slumped again on Monday after China showed it's willing to back up its words with action.
Carrying out a threat it made last month, China responded to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs with $3 billion of tariffs of its own. Beijing has yet to retaliate to Trump's promised crackdown on Chinese intellectual property theft.
And then there's NAFTA. Trump has repeatedly threatened to rip up the trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, which is deeply embedded in the American economy. Trump on Sunday linked NAFTA to his efforts to build a wall along the border with Mexico.
"They must stop the big drug and people flows, or I will stop their cash cow, NAFTA. NEED WALL!" Trump tweeted.
The good news is that some analysts believe Trump is trying to force a deal, not start a trade war or tear up NAFTA.
"The president thinks threats against the top two US trading partners will hasten a conclusion to discussions in a decidedly favorable manner," Kim Wallace, managing director at the Eurasia Group, wrote in a report on Monday.
Wall Street doesn't sound nearly as confident about a near-term resolution.
"The market is worried about the level of uncertainty Trump has injected into trade negotiations," Browne said.

Kick them out faster. Too many beaners are taking American jobs.
The Trump administration will pressure U.S. immigration judges to process cases faster by establishing a quota system tied to their annual performance reviews, according to new Justice Department directives.

The judges will be expected to clear at least 700 cases a year to receive a “satisfactory” performance rating, a standard that their union called an “unprecedented” step that risks undermining judicial independence.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has promised to stiffen immigration enforcement partly by moving more aggressively to clear a backlog of more than 600,000 cases pending before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR).

Some immigrants facing deportation wait years for a court date, and are typically authorized to work in the United States to support themselves during that time, an arrangement critics view as an incentive to illegal immigration.

I am sorry Roger, but which of the statements is untrue?

1) That California is losing citizenship to other states?
2) That California is welcoming of illegal immigrants?
3) That California has the most illegal immigrants of any state?
3) That California has declared itself a sanctuary state in order to protect the illegals from the Federal Government?

Are they not all facts?

Had California not been one of the states causing the biggest fuss over the potential of having their population under counted... I might have thought that they just wanted illegals out of some sense of whatever. But with everything else going on, it certainly appears that they are looking at illegal immigration as a means to keep their population at a higher level.

(and yes, that's my opinion)

It was not my assertion (as you suggest) that I believe that they are attempting to "steal" anything. Obviously, having illegals in your state bolsters your population. Since California cannot keep their current legal population, there is only one way for them to keep up their population status.

It's a drop in the bucket compared to a "recalculation of imputed income" which dinged me for another $200 biweekly. Rest assured I straightened THAT out post-haste ... I don't blame the Republican tax package specifically for that, but I think there was probably an indirect connection.

And don't get me started on how this wonderful health care reform has impacted prescription prices for my wife.

The bottom line is that the new policies and direction from Trump and his Republican Congress are, as expected, draining me. They'd better hope that my experiences are just outliers, else there will be rising dissatisfaction and a growing sentiment that their ideas just aren't working.
