President not a Target in the investigation...

While many are attempting to read much into the idea that Special Counsel informed Trump's attorneys that he remains a "subject" of the investigation, the reality is that it may mean very little by any tangible standard.

By definition, being a subject means that investigators believes that the subject has been involved in activity that is deemed suspicious or unethical, but do not have anything that actually ties the subject to a provable crime. This is different from being a target, which requires that there is evidence specifically linking the target to a criminal action.

Assuming the worst (if you are Trump) or the best (if you are out to get Trump) then Mueller still believes that Trump might have done something wrong and might still want to do some digging. But the fact that he is not a criminal target suggest that Mueller is still missing one small little detail...

evidence.

Getting above 50% is good for the midterms.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-eight percent (48%) disapprove.

I think that is his highest approval ever on Rasmussen.

It also means that report Mueller is writing better not be a partisan hack job.

Many think Mueller, in describing Trump as a subject, not a target of the investigation, is just trying to trap him into testifying.

Though Trump purportedly wants to talk with Mueller, a lot of his advisors are warning him not to.

Here's why:

China Hits Back on Tariffs

“China said it would levy an additional 25 percent tariff on imports of 106 U.S. products including soybeans, automobiles, chemicals and aircraft, in response to proposed American duties on its high-tech goods,” Bloomberg reports.

“Matching the scale of proposed U.S. tariffs announced the previous day, the Ministry of Commerce in Beijing said the charges will apply to around $50 billion of U.S. imports. Officials signaled that the implementation of the proposed measures will depend on when the U.S. applies its own after a period of public consultation.”

Playbook: “This could completely dwarf the good news Republicans have celebrated from tax reform and screw up their strategy to use it as the GOP’s main selling point in the midterms.”

CNBC: Stock futures plunged “as concerns over a potential trade war between the U.S. and China intensified.”

Justice Department Thinks Collusion Is a Crime

Jeffrey Toobin: “Is collusion a crime? That is one of the central questions of the investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. elections. Even if it could be proved that Donald Trump and his supporters worked with the Russian government, or with Russian citizens, to win the Presidential race, would that activity have violated United States law? It’s long been an article of faith for Trump supporters, and for Trump himself, that collusion is not illegal. As the President told the Times in an interview last December, ‘There is no collusion, and even if there was, it’s not a crime.'

“Now, it appears, Trump’s own Justice Department may have a different view. That conclusion appears in a document released earlier this week, in the course of pre-trial litigation in the case of Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman, on charges including money laundering.”

Private payrolls grow by 241K in March vs. 205K est.: ADP/Moody's Analytics
Private companies added 241,000 positions in March as employment in construction and manufacturing surged, according to ADP and Moody's Analytics.
The report was well ahead of Wall Street estimates for 205,000 growth and marked the fifth straight month that private payroll growth topped 200,000.
Service providers added 176,000 new jobs while goods-producing industries contributed 65,000.
"The job market is rip-roaring," says Mark Zandi, Moody's Analytics' chief economist.

Fake President Used Fake News to get Elected, Edward Luce said...

Edward Luce: “Those who think Mr Trump acts solely on impulse are not paying attention. He is doing what populists always do. They target independent media. In some cases, such as in Victor Orban’s Hungary, they direct state advertising to friendly outlets. In Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Turkey, they hound independents with tax raids. Regulatory intimidation also works. Mr Trump keeps telling the world he intends to use such tools. We keep downplaying the risk. This is America, after all. Such things do not happen.

“Yet they already have. Ponder this Ohio State University study. It found that voters who switched from Barack Obama in 2012 to Mr Trump in 2016 were influenced by three fake stories: Hillary Clinton was suffering from poor health; Pope Francis had endorsed Mr Trump; and Mrs Clinton had sold arms to Isis terrorists. All were essentially false. Together they may have tipped the election, says the report. Mr Trump is using his powers to ensure more Americans consume more stories like these. It helped elect him once. Why wouldn’t he press the advantage?”

In a competitive field of contestants, no single Cabinet member so fully, so unapologetically inhabits the swamp President Trump vowed to drain than Environmental Protection Administrator Scott Pruitt — which is about as far as his concern for wetlands goes.

Oh sure, Pruitt’s not the only one to gorge on travel privileges, insisting on first-class flights, if you please. But he brews a uniquely toxic stew of personal entanglements with industries he regulates, extreme pro-polluter policies that mock the EPA’s mission, and — neatly encapsulated in a $43,000 soundproof privacy booth — contempt for the public he serves.

A more functional White House would have sent this Swamp Thing packing long ago. Trump instead reportedly called Pruitt Monday to coo sweet encouragement in the face of calls for his resignation.

Those came because of reports that, even as he rented a Capitol Hill condo for the low-low price of $50 a night, whenever he pleased, Pruitt moved to approve one project pushed by an energy lobbyist married to the condo’s part-owner. And jetted to Morocco to sell the kingdom on liquefied natural gas that another of the lobbyist’s clients exports exclusively.

And after the White House turned down requests for pay raises for two subordinates Pruitt brought with him from Oklahoma, he snuck them in through the back door through emergency hiring powers meant to fast-track water cleanups.

Mueller cannot indict the President, therefore Trump is not and can never be a "target" of his criminal investigation. Mueller can write a report with a recommendation, which he will submit (I presume) to the Department of Justice who will (again presumably) present it to Congress should Congressional action be indicated.

It DOES make Trump more inclined to submit to questioning, or "testifying" as Trump puts it.

A woman with an education higher than mine agrees with me.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright describes herself as an "optimist who worries a lot." And lately, it seems, there has been much to worry about.

Albright's new book, Fascism: A Warning, starts by describing how Hitler and Mussolini came to power in the 20th century, then warns about today's authoritarian rulers in Eastern Europe, North Korea, Turkey and Russia.

Albright, who was born in Czechoslovakia and fled with her family after the Nazis occupied the country in 1939, notes that the United States has traditionally been viewed as a nation that opposes authoritarianism and supports democratic principles and human rights, but that perception is changing — in part because of President Trump.

While Albright does not call Trump a fascist, she says that he is "the most anti-democratic leader that I have studied in American history."

"We're not fulfilling the role that we're supposed to," she says of the United States today. "I believe very much that democracy in the United States is resilient [and] that people can be skeptical about things that are going on, but I really am afraid that we are taking things for granted."

Article continues after sponsorship

Interview Highlights
On why she wanted to write about fascism

Part of the reason for writing [the book] is to say that, in fact, this can happen in countries that have democratic systems, that have a population that's interested in what's going on, that is supportive. ... That's what's so worrisome, is that fascism can come in a way that it is one step at a time, and in many ways, goes unnoticed until it's too late.

"What magic wand do you have? " The Magic Negro

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Scott, the term "target" is that they are still investigating, but the fact is that a President can't be indicted. The fact that he is the "subject" is that he can be the subject of the reports that Muller is obligated to release. The reports were not a leak by the Muller team.

So the so called lack of "evidence" on this report is exaggerated. The reason is, that the Muller team is sealed tight. We don't know what he has, not even you. He is probably going to release at least two reports. One on the during and after inauguration activities with the Russians. And the second, or the other way around, on the possible objection of justice. That June meeting is still lingering out there.

The report will go to the House. It may contain alleged criminal activities or not. But even if it doesn't there may be activities he either lied about or attempted to impede the investigations.

His biggest problem is his possible testimony under oath. I'm sure that none of his lawyers were happy to see him say that he would 100% agree to testify. Even you should admit that if you were his lawyer, would not let him testify under oath. Unless you actually believe that his thousands of lies are a product of the Fake News" conspiracy.

They Take the Second Amendment First and the First Amendment Second

We can imagine what an America without our rights would look like, and it is really bad.

Oh, that’s crazy talk.

Really? Let’s look across the ocean and see what’s happening there. The British have kindly given us a preview. They allowed themselves to be disarmed, but why would they need guns? Britain is totally safe – except London just stumbled past New York in terms of violent crime. Oh, and it has an epidemic of knife violence. And acid attacks. But on the plus side, the decent people are helpless.

In the view of the elite, that is a plus. When you are helpless, you need them, and you are compliant.

But at least they have freedom of speech . . . except no, they don’t. In recent weeks, some guy calling himself Count Dankula was convicted of a crime for saying something.

For saying something.

It was a joke, and a tasteless one, but he now faces jail for speaking words. Think about that. And the police agencies in a land that used to be a bulwark of freedom and human rights are on the case, tweeting warnings to others who might say something that offends the elite’s sensibilities that the bobbies are watching.

George Orwell would be all, “See, told ya!” if he was alive, except he’d probably be in the slammer too for saying things that are illegal to say.

Let’s review: In once-Great Britain, there are things that are illegal to say.

But not here at home. Not in America. Why, that could never happen here. Liberals certainly don’t want to limit your speech, just like they don’t want to take your guns.

Baloney. The left is intent on taking away your right to speak freely.

Take a gander at our college campuses if you want a spoiler into what America will look like in 20 years if these aspiring Castros and Chavezes get their way.

Try saying what you want on a college campus. Try saying something that dissents from the SJW gospel pushed by the pierced, tatted-up screaming weirdos that the gutless administrators cater to. State the obvious, that there are two genders, not 183 of them, or refuse to use ridiculous “gender-neutral” pronouns like “xir” and “xip.” See what happens. Do you think hugging happens, or do you think violent, unhinged retribution against the wrongthinker happens?

Let’s not even talk about due process in the kampus kangaroo kourts, because there’s nothing to talk about. Academic “justice” does not mean an examination of the facts and evidence, with the accused offered the chance to provide a meaningful defense that includes the right to cross-examine the witnesses against him. Yes “him,” because “SJW justice,” is not remotely like justice. It is, instead, a hierarchy of fake oppression narratives that dictates that the accused must be punished because of the difference between who he is and who the accuser is. Guess who is at the bottom and presumed guilty?

Remember, all this is not just tolerated by liberals. They think it is good that your voice is silenced. They think it is good that you can have your life destroyed not because of what you did but because of your sex or race or beliefs. This oppression is not a bug; to them, this oppression is a feature.

I see no reason to believe that Trump has different values now than he had 4 years ago, or even 30 years ago. It's not up to us to judge him as a person, but we are obligated to judge him as a President.
